In 1969 my aunt came to our house to visit my dad she had a friend with her and it was Janis. To this day I still have the picture of my aunt & Janis and myself as a 6 year old sitting on our couch. Priceless memories
If Janis was alive today, I could just imagine here looking almost the same but with grey hair and a shabby fufu blowing in the wind, wearing her big colorful circle sunglasses and mood rings holding the wheel while cruising, bolting out one of her masterpieces! 🌈✌☮
Wait. When Janis died, her brother inherited the car and repainted it. This is a fact. Then when the SF Museum of Modern Art did a retrospective, they recreated the original artist David Richards' work. So which is this one?
I read that the original was mostly just painted over, and they were able to save much of the original mural after removing the paint. What was left was touched up by an artist, dont remember this part exactly, who was tied somehow to the original. This could all be wrong though but i remember reading that in a magazine
The car was repainted dolphin gray after her death by her brother..so the original artwork was lost. This is a reproduction based on old photos. Also, the mirror is not correct - the original car had a Talbot mirror. So whoever bought this car at $1.7m should've done some homework.
It sold for $1.75M. Many cars regularly sell for far more at auctions. Not sure of the record for price, but ferrari 250gto go for about $30-50million at auction. Then theres old Bugatti, Dusenberg, other ferraris etc going for 10's of millions.
@@missingremote4388 after Janis died it was painted all grey, and then this psychedelic art was painted once again, close to what it was like when she drove it [based on photos]. not to mention engine was changed since then with some other things too.
The only thing about this car that is still original from when janis owned it is the vin number. After she died, the car was driven in snow and salt, and parked wet. The car's famous paint job eventually cracked and broke off over the years, and the was badivpcally trashed. Eventually janis family paid to have the car restored including a complete repaint copying the famous paint job janis roadie gave it. After all that, how much of Janis is really left of it?
Haven’t heard this story but it was stolen in 69 and painted over in hopes no one would notice. Wonder if it was able to be recovered or it was repainted?
That's her alright love it really showed the love she had to offer but no one gave that 2 her they she was 2 wild and she was. Acting out n hurt I love you
Why didn't you include some pertinent information, like who you are and how you came to drive it? Where are you while driving it? As mentioned below, the car has been redone specifically the paint job. Not a good reporting job bro.
Janis had an apartment at 22nd and Noe in Frisco and I used to see her all the time in the Porsche only the car had pictures of the guys in the band painted on the hood. This car is a fraud.

You know much Janis paid for that car? $3500 used. Decades later it sells for 1.76 million dollars. Wtf man. Had it been me to own it, after paying the $400,000 to $600,000? I would be curising along blasting Janis's Piece of my heart in that porche. She drove that car everywhere. So a piece of her heart was in it and still is.
Jeff Cory HI performance price. I had one many years ago that had half the body made out of bondo and screen wire. Wish I had just sat on it. These days that decrepit rust bucket would be worth $15,000 to a restorer.
Its the same car. But unfortunately, not the original paint job. After she passed her sister and brother drove it for years wearing it out and not taking care of it like they should have! Decided to re paint it and put it in a museum. Here's a link of alil 9 min documentary of the history of her car where her brother speaks about it. ruclips.net/video/jMXOCLOyefY/видео.html

What was Janis like?
Wow!!! What I wouldn't do to own this car!! Love and miss you Pearl. The world hasn't been the same since you left.

She would be a 70 year old woman of some kind!! I don't think she was meant to get old no matter what!!
My wife and I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and it was there. Incredible car and lots of personality!!!

A year ago Janis’s Porsche was sold at auction. Her car became the expensive car ever to be sold at auction

Leave it to CNN to get it all wrong. ¨ Completely original ¨ it was completely repainted.
I think he means unchanged since 1970 when she last drove it ⛽

@@mchorchos yes I found it was re done . Latter on. I liked the 1st psycadelic version. Very special artists.
He meant it was unique
@@makkaamampansaanana8216 It WAS unique until they removed the paint job and then had to redo it.
Too bad it’s not in a museum somewhere people could go see it!

If James Dean's 550 could kill/wound so many people, I'd say that there is still plenty of Janis left in her old 356

the car should be driven by a girl, not by a grandfather.
If thats the original steering wheel, it would be amazing to drive that car,
...humbly I did not realize PEARL, drove it daily almost two years...
How would you like to have a sighting, back then, Wow!

Hi performance? At 1.6 liter, I don't think so. I had a car like this. It was gorgeous, SO much character, but it waren't no hi performance.
