the green house kit being randomly selected was great!! cause it reminded me that the other plant kit, blooming rooms, is for free until the end of the month!!! guys go get it it, too!!
Love that the Heaviest Piano is put on the second floor, down the narrow hallway. When item have to stay in that room, because no sim would ever move it. Awesome Build
This Sim is too much like my mom. She puts furniture in places that it shouldn't be able to go, & you'll probably never get it back out of. Wish I knew the secret
My grandma moved into the sixth floor of a no-elevator building with her piano and let me tell you, the movers weren’t happy. It’s so big and bulky and the stairs were so cramped. I still don’t know how they got it up there.
This build has such strong storytelling potential. I'm thinking of a recently orphaned girl moving in with grandma and grandpa and getting through her grief by bonding with their horse... and also grandpa is a vampire I guess? Anyways I loved the random build! You did a fantastic job blending things together. Home Chef Hustle counters could have been used in a bathroom that was added on later, but honestly the vampire stuff is just too perfect to pass up.
I live in Alaska now, but I was born and raised in Oklahoma in the US. I actually grew up in a house almost just like this! My gparents built and/or lived in long enough to fix up properly then sold houses for my entire childhood. The house almost exactly like this had an old porch door into the recently built sunroom, had crazy colors in the kitchen and retrofitted bathrooms/appliances just like this build. It's so crazy seeing something like this in sims!
The uncanny valley-ness of the beige bedroom only adds to the lore of the house that the owner is axrually a vampire so doesnt even use the bedroom or really know what a normal one should look like. I love.
Builds like this always remind me of my great-grandmother's house. They enclosed part of the back yard to make another room, and it still had the exterior windows looking in, and the concrete steps that used to be for the back door. I'm not a good enough builder to recreate it to my satisfaction, but I loved that house.
The sprinkler system is actually really useful. I was playing late at night so I was sleeping a bit during the mundane moments (University homework) and something or someone caught on fire, was put out, showered and recovered before I woke up. I saw the big orange notification about a fire and looked everywhere for it and didn't see it. both sims were clean.. later I discovered a pile of dust where a rug used to be.
I feel like I’ve been watching the evolution of James Turner formely known as the Sim Supply. From being known for his contemporary builds, to building pokey old housed and saying phrases like “I’ve smelled this house before”. You haven’t really build a contemporary (black & white) house and you look like you’ve been loving it! ❤️
21:59 as someone who used to live on a farm, when it would get wet on during fishing season, you would have your overalls hanging up to put on over your clothes that you could put on for your chores, I imagine that's what the jeans could be
I like this house! As someone from the country, in old farm houses here the porch would have been wood panels and probably the ceiling too. Finding an old house with wood ceiling is a treasure here.
James, I'm saying this w/ a lot of passion, the sims community and, actually, the literal game would be NOTHING without you holy shit- 10/10 across all boards!!!
The beige bedroom upstairs is really giving me "guest room" vibes 😭😭 Maybe the owners are a vampire parent and kid with the sun resistance perk trying to live the ranch life 🥺
I love the lot of LP videos we've been getting lately but it's also really nice that James is doing more build videos like he did back in the day. It feels so long since we got a build video
I really like it. At one point you were asking about what sort of ceiling a house like this would have, my dads last few houses have been little old houses like this, they had plaster cilings with circular plaster details around the light fixtures.
Now I want to play as a vampire who decided to become a rancher and adopted a kid, but maybe they are trying to hide the fact that they are vampire. But having to walk with an umbrella outside kind of gives them away 😂
I love watching you have fun building! This is such a grandma's house vibe. Feels like the grandparents are retired ranchers raising their grandchild because the parent is a vampire who's not really in the picture much. I totally feel like I've been in bedrooms like these. I really enjoyed how you embraced that vibe and didn't worry about perfection - it makes the build so much more real looking. And heck yeah I used your code to buy my kid "Sim Mermaid!!". So glad to have another way to support your channel.
And the basement issue has a neat solution I learned about recently. Go to the Basement, then click from there to lower the foundation. I know there's no foundation, but it works! Popcorn ceilings were popular in the 70's. Any style house could've been renovated to include them.
I loved this video. The build and attention to detail is so thoughtful. I'd love to see more videos like this where you can see the story develop of who lives in the house through the design and clutter. Well done!
Today we are closing on my new house, and I know you uploaded this yesterday, but it looks close to the house we just bought! It's built before 1920's but updated in the 70s. The literal only difference in the layout is a full size bathroom downstairs, the dining is in the entrance, and the dining room is the laundry, then the upstairs is facing the other way. This is so cool! The previous owners even made wine in the basement!!
29:20 It thought James would finally realise the perfect potential for a nectar making cellar, but no, even better: secret vampire lair. not what I expected but can't say I'm disappointed
The vampire kit actually fits well with horse ranch because of some of the older style bathroom and kitchen stuff. I like the shower/bath combo and the toilet for building rural/older style builds.
I love you doing more builds with selected packs because it increases the chance of me being able to download it. Also can also imagine how this house smells and I can also picture perfectly the sims who live there ❤❤
James I love your videos so much!! Been a subscriber for years and think you're the only youtuber that I never miss an episode - so grateful for everything you've made and the work you put in !!
The decor brings me back memories of my Nans bungalow and I can also smell this house 😂 Its very "i havent changed the carpets and wallpaper since the 80s when I was 50" vibe.
I just got the horse ranch and I downloaded your house from yesterday and now I’m going to download this one thank you so much. I can’t build for the life of me lol
I love it. It is totally vibe like grandparents rising grandchild house. The best place for the Bin is under sink so we can say that we have the bin in the kitchen but it is hidden. 😅
Just a small tip for future building for old homes: the nicer sitting room tended to be the first room you walked into (so if someone stopped by that was the first thing they saw and you could pretend to be always nice and presentable). The den, or more used family room, would be off to the side with the tv and toys and whatnot
A vampire, a horse, a gardener and a chef move in together... (Time for a LP with those characters xD) Chef and gardener can be one person as well, they grow their own herbs and veggies and fruits and put a lot of love and time in their cooking, only for their secretly vampire roommate to never eat it, making the chef sad... Will they discover the vampire's secret?
Or the vampire has the withered stomach, tries to eat the food their roommate cooks only to throw it up, and the poor chef thinks they can't cook properly.
I was literally just saying to my partner how much I miss watching you build... I know you build, but it's usually hectic stuff for lps.. And now we get 2 in a week, this is awesome. Thank you 😁
This was such a fun build, and as other people have commented has great potential for storytelling game play. James was particularly quotable in this vid with many of them making me laugh out loud. -*gasp* pots and pans! I don't now why I gasped at that. -I don't know what this means but I can tell you I've smelt this house before. Know what I mean? it has that sort of must a musty-ness to it. -Oh no my coffin's sticking out, dang it. Uhh maybe we just hide it with landscaping
This gives me a fun idea for a lets play! Pick 8 (or however many you want) random packs and then, for each one, create a Sim using only base game and that pack, and inspired by that pack. Then put them all in a house together and the challenges for each of them to create their pack specific aspiration. You could add other pack-dependent stuff too, like skills/hobbies, jobs, different life stages, etc. (only use packs that come with new aspirations).
Somewhere around the bathroom, the story of this house came to me. This family used to live in town, maybe renting a house. Then an older relative passed away, leaving them this farm. They kept some of the old furniture, and added in their own, and that's why it's so crammed. Btw, I can also smell this house. It will not go away even if you open a window.
The main bedroom reminded me of my Nan's bedroom the exact same colouring. You captured old person home hence that aroma you get when you open the front door. 28:15 exactly what thought. Granparents house with spare room for grandkids to sleep in, also they live on a farm, they'll be helping out not playing with toys
What perfect timing! James’ commenting about “I’ve smelled this house before” while I’m watching with my two Dobermans asleep at my feet. My male chose just that moment to make me think I was watching ‘smell-o-vision’! I was laughing and crying at the same time!
Such a cute house. I think the first room on the right being the office would’ve worked really well. I can’t imagine bringing a piano up those really small tight stairs 😂. Not sure what would go in the other room upstairs then. Maybe a storage room, extra bedroom, or library?
I can smell this house too. As a certified HCH lover, I would have set up a semi-permanent sales spot in the front yard for the selling table, which I think would go really nicely with any of the residential lots in the town part of Chestnut Ridge. Love this house though.
my grandparents bought a very small fixer upper home with an acre of land, that was part of a fruit farm. they had the vegetable garden, peach trees, pear trees, and apple trees. then there was the wild growing strawberries and blackberries. - but when you placed the window on the porch wall, it reminded me of their home, which when they bought it, the porch was not screened in. which is why on the inside, you can see the exterior walls and windows. - the bathroom also had exterior walls and windows, because it was a back porch, and they had an outhouse. when indoor plumbing came along, the porch was turned into a bathroom. yes, there was no heating, and it was hell to take a bath or shower in, in the winter time. 60 below 0, makes you not want to get naked for a bath! - the upstairs bedrooms had no heat, so you had to leave the door open, to get the heat from the coal burning stove in the basement. - i miss my grandparents! RIP Grammy 1993 and Grampy 1994. he died a year after her, he died of heartbreak. he couldnt live without her, i want to be loved like that.
i love the vampire pack renaissance!! the kitchen is so cute! and the dish rack fits so well???? i always want to use it but never do and now i know what i will add to my builds next
I like how you tried to make it really old school. I renovated an entire 4 bed house irl that was built in 1919 and you’re right there are little basements and usually the only bathroom would be upstairs originally with a sun room. Really reminds me of that old house.
Ranch homes are typically a single-story home that features an open floor plan. I rented a ranch home for almost 2 years before the landlord decided to see and I had to move. What I think you where thinking of when building this is a Farm House. Still a great build and good video.
I love this it gives visiting grandparents hence why there’s not actually kids stuff other than in the spare bedroom! Also the grandparents have secrets
Ooh, this was a really cool little build challenge! Would love to see more like this, as it's nice seeing different styles and approaches to builds. Also, I'm limited with the packs I have, so it'd be nice to see different combinations. ☺️
I hope this helps. The easiest way to solve the basement issue of popping out of the ground is to just lower the basement using the height tool. Just grab the up/down arrow and lower it a little. It will need the stairs to be a little longer, but if needed, just make the basement room a tile longer.
Felt like I was watching my irl house 😂 the couple that owned it before lived there for 70 years! When we moved in we got lots of their old furniture so added to ours it’s been extra… cosy 🤣 and definitely musty. That house smell is real! I really love this build.
been so obsessed with playing the new SDV and Dreamlight Valley updates that I haven't touched sims in a while. The last few James videos have made me get the sims itch and I loaded it up yesterday for the first time in a few months!
I always use that corkboard floor tile for non bath/kitchen ceilings since it looks like it was made to be used for that purpose. I try to use some form of tile flooring for kitchen and bathroom ceilings.
The duck and rooster on the fireplace mantle facing away from each other is giving lifelong bird feuds between the owners. One loves chickens and one desperately wants to raise ducks.
This makes me want to try recreating my grandparents' old farmhouse. The clutter is so real in a house like this, especially after the Great Depression when you started saving up everything because it might be used later. Edit: Now I'm just imagining the nightmare of getting that piano upstairs lol
My parents had windows from the kitchen to the extention and it was cool, meant she could keep an eye on us while cooking etc. There was also one from the toilet, which was slightly weirder
Honestly, the vampires pack really pegged the "old money" look for the house like the family who built it were wealthy but now it's just... grandma's house... so cute
Grandma bought the coffin for herself at a steep discount. She did question the "lightly used" sticker, but how could she pass up such a bargain?! She'll be needing it soon anyways...
I think it would be cool to do some builds with some complimentary kits like cottage living, horse ranch and the country kitchen kit, or all the occult game packs.
In the vampire lair, if you had enough room, you could have put in a pipe organ and a chair with a radiator. You could also go down another level and put in a reading room.
This could be fun for a story where a single mom becomes a vampire, so she and her kid move in with her parents (the grandparents) so they can help raise the kid. These packs worked surprisingly well together!
22:03 the pants are there for when you are in pijama shorts or something comfy when a surprise visitor comes or you have to leave suddenly, so you can change quickly 😂😂😂
the green house kit being randomly selected was great!! cause it reminded me that the other plant kit, blooming rooms, is for free until the end of the month!!! guys go get it it, too!!
It’s full priced for me
Only for PC 🥲
Oh man I play on console. Not fair!
@@saffronhaylett right🥲 but I think it’s bc console got the free backyard stuff pack and I don’t think PC got that one.
@@AshleyNichole624 ... we did get that one 😭

Grandparent raising grandchild, maybe with her secret vampire s.o. in the basement... Love this house.
that is a fantastic storyline and it makes me want to download this house and play it!
exactly what I was thinking!
This would be a great sitcom!
Or the grandma is the vampire... GRANPIRE? 😂
Thought the same thing but with a vampire uncle hiding there and creeping around at night. A bit like Bruno in Encanto.
"I've smelled this house before"... best line ever!! ;)
I've smelled that house, too xD
But it makes sense though, I totally get it lol.
I literally laughed out loud at that part. 😂
As someone who worked on an ambulance for over 10 years. I have smelled that house as well. And have a number of stories attached to it.
@@knickel500 could you tell please? Now I’m interested :’D
okay but at 26:20 the detail of the glass cabinet crammed in behind the desk is so realistic in an 'old fashioned house' kinda way I love it
you just wanted to point out the flaw in the nicest wording
@@Axeloy lmao did it come off like that?? I'm sorry, but I actually meant what I said!! I love it!
Love that the Heaviest Piano is put on the second floor, down the narrow hallway. When item have to stay in that room, because no sim would ever move it. Awesome Build
They moved it into that room before they built the rest of the interior walls haha!
the sim built their home AROUND the piano 🤣
This Sim is too much like my mom. She puts furniture in places that it shouldn't be able to go, & you'll probably never get it back out of. Wish I knew the secret

Sounds like a 2000s "Disney Channel Original" and tbh I'm living for the nostalgia
Anne of Green Gables storyline
I love the fact that you dreaded Vampires and then ended up using quite a lot of it. It really is a great pack. And you made a lovely house, James!
Live in a century home. Can confirm insane number of doors. 4 doors in my kitchen and another 2 from the butler pantry/hall area.
finally some representation for old houses with colored carpet and shower windows like mine
I live in Alaska now, but I was born and raised in Oklahoma in the US. I actually grew up in a house almost just like this! My gparents built and/or lived in long enough to fix up properly then sold houses for my entire childhood.

How much I MISSED James' random build vids!!!
As much as I love letsplays, For Rent really put a downer on them 😭😭
The uncanny valley-ness of the beige bedroom only adds to the lore of the house that the owner is axrually a vampire so doesnt even use the bedroom or really know what a normal one should look like. I love.

*builds a basic square shell*
“…oook looking good!”

My sims household is exactly like this atm and it’s good fun! She sold her art gallery to start a plasma nectar business from the ranch 😂

Thank you SO MUCH for separating out CAS & Build kits. I use that generator all the time for builds. 😊
Ooh, this was a really cool little build challenge! Would love to see more like this, as it's nice seeing different styles and approaches to builds. Also, I'm limited with the packs I have, so it'd be nice to see different combinations. ☺️
For the weird issue with basements, if you lower the basement like you did with the vampire room, just once or twice it fixes it
I hope this helps.
I really love this build.
the smell of that house is Old Books, Dust and Mothballs with the faint trace of woodfire clung to the furniture. So cozy
So excited to see you doing builds again ❤️
been so obsessed with playing the new SDV and Dreamlight Valley updates that I haven't touched sims in a while. The last few James videos have made me get the sims itch and I loaded it up yesterday for the first time in a few months!
I absolutely love this build! You're designs and gameplays have been my favorite of the Sims for many years! 🥰
I always use that corkboard floor tile for non bath/kitchen ceilings since it looks like it was made to be used for that purpose. I try to use some form of tile flooring for kitchen and bathroom ceilings.
I’ve enjoyed the build videos lately. I love watching your let’s plays and I love your building too!
I really love this house! It reminds me a lot of The Ring, which is a movie I adore ❤️
This is my personal earliest
Same.
Your videos ❤always remove the negative feeling from the continuous complaints! Your humour makes the bugs and glitches tolerable! Thank you!
