Honestly, I believe you deserve more subscribers. You are my most favourite yoga teacher in RUclips. It's your voice, your clear instructions, the sounds in the background, the options depending on the level and much more!
I' m so sorry to hear about your injury 😞 I pray for you to recover as quickly as possible, to be able to do all the things that you love again soon ❤️ 🙏

I am so sorry to hear about this development! A few things occur to me -
    1. If you feel up for it, an arms-free yoga class for frozen shoulder could be helpful to a lot of people in a similar situation! Your wrist-free classes were a godsend for the year I spent with an elbow injury.
    2. Dr. Karl Kaluza at Rebound in Lake Oswego has been really helpful for my various injuries and issues. He’s a DO and he thinks outside the box - and he offers PRP injections and other treatments.
    3. Hand Center of Oregon in Tualatin also treats shoulders - and they helped me when nobody else could, after years of multiple doctors and physical/occupational therapists. Anita Ploghoft is more thorough than anyone I’ve ever seen.
I wish you the best of luck with adjusting to this difficult new reality - and I hope you can make a full recovery!

Sorry to hear, Maris! Your hands free videos have been keeping me sane through my tennis elbow injury--I can relate to not being able to do what you love! I'll bet you can offer a fantastic arms free practice that will make you and your fans happy, though. Great workaround using your husband as yogi while you're injured--I appreciate you sticking it out! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Thank you so much for sharing. I have always loved the calm yet challenging way you teach yoga, and I am sure your future videos will be just as perfect. Please don’t be too hard on yourself; often, we do not fall chronicly ill or stop functioning the way we want simply because we did something wrong. I have a chronic illness and it took me a long time to understand as well as to overcome the pressure we put ourselves under by looking for causes we could have avoided. Don‘t give up!

Maris, I am one of your patrons and I am 85. I had to stop some yoga poses. I went to an orthopedist and he immediately took a MRI. He does yoga too. Ironically, I have a small tear in my left shoulder. Repairing the tear will enable me to get back to my full yoga. He told me no four hands postures on the floor putting pressure. I have been active all my life and was doing full classes at the gym. I have left the gym and I still am a patron of your site. I do all the 30-minute seated and standing postures. I had a frozen shoulder years ago, and the orthopedic Dr. gave me a shot which was immediate results. On that tear, I am going to do the surgery early next month as an outpatient, 2 months, twice a week therapy, and continue at home with therapy. You do have a lot going on. The tear will never heal itself, and you are too young. I could take just therapy, that is not a real solution. I love yoga and want to get back to it. My Yoga teacher visited me yesterday and she wanted to see what I was doing. She is 62 and a real yogi, vegan, and does annual retreats. She said your style, and postures are excellent. She is going to check out some of your videos. She has a zoom class and teaches in various venues at the beach. The only person you should be listening to is your orthoptist. The downward dogs and all postures put the weight that ends up on your shoulders. The quickest way to recover is to stay off the floor. Namaste, Gilda from Florida.

You are such an inspiring person, thank you! Your words are really hitting me and resonating with me right now. I am someone who has (I believe) taken really good care of my body with exercise and eating right. And in spite of that, I just got diagnosed with a chronic GI condition. I am also realizing that I have been under stress, and this is my body telling me to slooooow doooown. As you said, I am also feeling humbled. Thank you for putting all these feelings into words so eloquently; it really moved me. I'm feeling inspired by your positive attitude in spite of the circumstances. I wish you all the healing and peace and I hope that you also listen to your body and let it be your guide! Much love!

Hello Maris, I am sorry to hear about your health and I wish you the best possible recovery. Take all the time you need, we will be there. I am a French yoga teacher and I discovered your classes a few years ago when I had a shoulder injury. You saved my practice with your "no downdog" classes. But you also ruined all the other yoga classes on the internet for me 🙂 No one compares! You are such a great and precise teacher! I love your cues, your voice, the way you guide everyone at their own level... Brilliant teaching. Indeed the screen is only there for the pleasure of seing you smiling at us from time to time. So it works perfectly with the new "star student" (cheers to him).
I love that you decided to share this with us, as it is a lesson in itself. It is very courageous to show vulnerability, and this strengthens your position as a leader. Thank you for reminding us to listen to our bodies, that who ever we are, we sometimes need to slow down, and that whatever happens we can always pivot, and find a solution.
Lots of support from this side of the world, and all the best to you and your family

Well, I began with you Maris, and I stay with you. Especially wrist-free options. Maris, life is but a SERIES OF RECOVERIES - keep the faith, listen to your Team, be grateful - this too shall pass. Doing your videos have been a part of my physical and mental health the last few years and I wish you well. You were my first yoga "instructor" I went to others only to find myself coming back to you. You are easy to follow and just love the way you instruct. I had shoulder surgery 2 yrs ago. Same issue. It took nearly a year for recovery. I had no choice. A tear here, torn there. I waited till I could not. It was not getting better. Pray this works out for you. I agree. We do these things to maintain our body only to find the wear and tear happen anyway. I have always ran and now my knees bother me from time to time. I don't know. I am 57 at my high school weight and have more energy than most. What are we supposed to do? I plan on continuing with weights, HIIT, running and of course yoga. I have a cleaning service so this too keeps me moving. I suspect it is because I keep moving I can. Don't let this get you down. Too many people count on you. During my recovery of surgery clients had someone else clean for them. Once I came back online, they were happy as hell to see me. I suspect this will happen for you. So take care of yourself, speedy recovery, and all will be here patiently awaiting your return. That's how good you are at what you do. Thank you Maris.

I am really sorry 😔 about what is happening to you. I am 52 years old and same happens to me recently and what I did and worked, was stop hurting my shoulders completely because I couldn't even move my left arm at all, had to drive my car with one hand. Started taking vitamins like MSM Collagen Magnesio y Potasio plus vitamin D. Now I am feeling better thats why started.doing yoga again and when I searched your videos found this message of you, and made me so sad. But you are younger I am sure you will get better. In fact I have been following for years, and love tour videos!! I watch and use many of them, I hope from God you feel better soon. :)

I hope you take comfort in others stories of injuries & full recovery! I wish you the best health care, and if it helps to hear…I had a bad rotator cuff tear, surgery, frozen shoulder, and tendinitis develop in my “good” shoulder. All of that resolved, a Cortizone shot helped me for frozen shoulder but I know not everyone. Within a year things were so much better and now it’s basically 100% better like it never happened. I wish you the same luck in a full recovery! (my husband had to brush/dry/“style” my hair when I had frozen shoulder. TERRIBLE!!!!)

If the reason for that shoulder condition is over use then do what you are doing, rest rest rest and when start again slow down and remember consistency is more beneficial than intensity. You will be fine. Thank you for sharing. Indeed that will remind us to slow down too.

That is a true comment. I had the exact same issues and had surgery and yoga caused it. Our wrists have to be strengthened because we shouldn’t be constantly on them as they aren’t designed for that. I have since stopped yoga but do mobility work which is very different and many yoga injuries have calmed down. I practiced for 10 years

Hello from a fellow Filipina now (still) in KC. Glad no surgery at least, but I know how rough that is. I grew up very sickly so I learned early on to listen to my body and stop at the slightest signal of pain. It's only in my adult years that I've actually gone faster and worked harder. I'm sorry you had to be reminded by your body in this way, it definitely is a humbling experience. Sayang sana I got to meet you while you were in KC, but I only discovered you during the pandemic. I am so happy your husband is very supportive, that really helps. I wish you a full, steady recovery ahead (not a speedy one because pushing yourself is the reason why your body's pushing back). Ingat and stay safe. ♡

I recently found you only because I, too, had injured my right shoulder from over use (rotator cuff), and I found some of your "wrist free/no hands" yoga videos from six years ago. So thank you for creating those videos. I look forward to watching more of your videos. May you have wonderful enjoyable summer, resting and recuperating.

Maris, I just want to say thank you for sharing your news, this is a brave thing to do, but I think it is a healing thing to do too. You have all my empathy, as I have been dealing with adult onset asthma diagnosed in my 40s, after previously having general healthiness-it's a shock and has been difficult. Your yoga videos have helped me tremendously, (especially one of your seated poses I do over and over) as I cannot do fast cardio anymore and yoga is the best for me---and you are my absolute favorite yoga teacher. I hope that your treatment begins soon and you feel better soon, but without pushing yourself, of course! 😊 And don't be afraid to lean on your family as much as needed to get you through-they'll be happy to be there for you. Take care and stay positive!

I hope you can have your shoulder repaired. I had to quit doing chaturangas, fast vinyasa. Mostly slow flow, Hatha, Yin and restorative are my yoga practices now with modifications. . Both of my shoulders have old, what drs have called, massive tears in both rotator cuffs.
I'm a lot older now, I started practicing yoga in my 40s. I began having shoulder pain in my late 50s when I did chaturangas, although I had shoulder pain before that. I was active all of my life but the repetitive and overuse wear and tear caught up with me. Now arthritis in those places.
I went to physical therapy and it helped me but I need reverse shoulder replacement surgery which I am delaying since it's my only option and can be limiting.
It is hard to wrap your mind around it.
I was a pusher with everything, especially running and the gym, work.
I did have falls skiing, biking, running, etc that led me to yoga because of other injuries.
When I began yoga in my early 40s I was still pushing with power yoga and vinyasa that exacerbated my shoulder, starting with my right and now both.
You will get through this if surgical repair is possible. And Physical Therapy. I wish I would've done that when the symptoms first happened. Sigh. My right shoulder started hurting in my late 30s from my gym days. I would only get occasional injections and keep going.
My endocrinologist is in her late 40s and had rotator cuff repair surgery and she is much better now. She was in a sling for a while. A little grumpy but doing great now.
I'm 67 and what you're going through is relatable and hopefully you will get the care you need now. 🙏❤️

Hi Maris!! Do you remember me? Kristina Long from sooooooooo long ago. 🤗
A while back I was just starting to set up my Patreon account. Started searching yoga teachers. Out of all the instructors on there you popped up!! I love it!! So great to see you doing so well with your channel. Great to see your smiling beautiful face after so long! I’ve been on a very long FB/IG break. So im not as current with KC folks as id like to be always. I get back for visits once a year now.
Living in Gulfport, FL at the moment but moving to Boquete, Panamá mid November. Wish we lived closer so I could help you with your frozen shoulder. (I’m also an LMT now) Sending you so much peace, love, light and healing.

I don't use FB/IG in my personal life so I'm out of touch too. I only use it for Yoga Upload. We left KC last year and we're now living in Portland, OR. I love it here! We have 2 little boys (ages 3 & 5) and we are enjoying life in the Pacific Northwest.
Thanks again for reaching out. Wish you all the best!

Maris, please avoid any cortisone injections! Fast relief but very bad for your long term repair. Try and get PRP instead. Look into this and it will be so much better than the cortisone. Also red light therapy and acupuncture. Good luck and please be careful and rest!

Maris Egoscue therapy can help you. They are experts at getting folks out of pain without surgery. They can do Zoom appointments if a clinic is not near you. They essentially look at your posture and give you exercises to put your body back into alignment to allow you to eliminate pain and heal. I hope you look into it. In my early 20s my hip was locking up and I was in excruciating pain at the chiropractor every other day. The chiropractor told me it was the onset of early arthritis. I refused to accept that diagnosis. It took me 10 years of trial and error to finally find Egoscue. They have saved my life in so many ways! You can absolutely heal! As for videos there are so many - I know I haven’t personally watched every video. Maybe you could highlight older videos - that would certainly be acceptable from my perspective. Please reach out if I can answer any questions.
