A Journey Across Tunisia 🇹🇳

  • Today we journeyed across sunny Tunisia!
We headed from North to South using shared minivans called 'louages'. These vans are the most common way locals get around Tunisia and they are nice and cheap.
It was a long sweaty day consisting of multiple van rides, some delicious traditional Tunisian food and then sadly a lot of scammy people the closer we got to Sousse.
Tunisia is one of the easiest places to travel in the world 🇹🇳

We weren't planning on visiting Sousse but had to break the journey up from north to south so here we are!

On the plus side travelling across Tunisia is super easy and most people are bloody lovely! 🇹🇳

And I think for luggage they add an extra 0.7 dt sometimes

@@feridayadi1099 First of all, they are Tunisians, and in Tunisia there are only Tunisians, and I do not recognize Berbers or Arabs. Second, their features are Tunisian, and we all have similar features, and we do not resemble Arabs or Berbers. We Tunisians are only Carthaginians, and you are not Tunisian, and do not talk about Tunisians, and do not try to divide the one people. Finally, Sousse is a tourist area, and this is expected not only in Sousse, but in all tourist areas in Tunisia or outside it. Fraud exists all over the world, but at least Tunisia is a safe country, unlike many other tourist countries.

I'm terribly sorry you had to go through that ordeal. Some taxi drivers can be rather dreadful, they treat locals the same way, if not worse!! Last time I was in Tunisia, my foreigner part of the family joined in. The extortion from taxi drivers and the harassment and aggression from sellers were truly embarrassing. At one point, in Hammamet Sud, we couldn't find a taxi willing to take us home. One driver bluntly told me it was because I was local and they preferred to charge higher fares to tourists. I ended up saying I would pay more either way just so we could go home.. It's ironic how they're actively contributing to ruining their own livelihoods. I apologize once more, and welcome to Tunisia! 🙌

With Sousse being a major tourist destination in Tunisia, doesn't fully represent the typical Tunisian way of life. Because it's so popular with visitors, the area has more than its share of scammers and materialistic individuals trying to make quick money. Unfortunately, this can lead to encounters with rude and unfriendly people. To get a true sense of Tunisian hospitality and culture, I recommend visiting the interior regions of the country. There, you'll find locals who are genuinely warm, welcoming, and eager to share their rich traditions with you.

I heard they use this systeme since it is a small city and there is not so much demand and long distance so taxi drivers invented this system 😅

Oh Ellis , sorry for what happend to ya in sousse. There is nothing that can make that acceptable. But just for you to know that Tunisians get the same treatment or maybe worst when they go to touristy places like sousse. And people from Sousse can know who is not from there because of the accent and they scam them right away especcially taxis and touristy activities and souvenirs. I had the same experience as you when I was there. I have to practical tips for next time: if you get stuck and you need a taxi, you can ask any police officer to take you one (just say taxi and your destination), you can use an app called bolt you pay cash or card. I understand that you want to keep it classic (no apps no smartphones) but that is just in case you got stuck in a sunny day.
