The World's WORST Border Crossing

- We crossed the Iraq-Turkey border and it was pretty terrible.
Gotta be honest we had no idea how to cross over into Turkey so just jumped into a taxi to the border area and hoped for the best.
We found ourselves in an empty car park with a lone white man and some dodgy blokes, we did a bit of hard bargaining and managed to bad ourselves a seat over to the Turkish side.
The plot thickened as half way through crossing the border we were enlisted to help the lads smuggle a load of tax free goods ahah what a place eh.
Once in Turkey we were dropped off in a little town called Silope, we had no money and after a struggle managed to change some dollars into Turkish lira then on we went to our final destination, Mardin.
Upon arriving in the ancient Southeastern Turkish city of Mardin we took a couple of free buses into the city center, had our first Turkish doner then walked to our hotel which happened to be in a very old house. This hotel was pretty cool to be honest and from the terrace we had views all the way into Syria.
I can't think of a worse border crossing, this one's definitely worth avoiding!

@@EllisWR We have a saying in Kurdish, "in a city of blind people, cover your eyes." Avoid mentioning Kurdistan by name there, the Turkish government is still in the 1940s when it comes to that word. Enjoy the Kurdish cities on the way, nonetheless. Diyarbakir, Van, and Mardin are to die for.

I felt so sorry for those people who were waiting to cross the border for days.

Those people are not any tourist or whatsoever most of them are dealers who come to buy sigarets or tea and just cross the border and flip it but the government is trying to stop it and give family and tourist the priority and thats why the lines now are seperate unlike some years ago where a family or tourist would wait 8/9 hours in the sun and their behavior is very arrogant.

Turkish law stipulates that every 25 kilometers one must stop at one of the rest stops as a service for the old men woman and also for the sick people to go to the bathroom and also for all people if they need to buy some food &tea & refreshments. There are also village areas where they can ride from there to reach the city.

Every country has its own laws, customs and traditions, so for me I accept everything from that country and ask carefully about all the precise things before I go. In Iraq, they do not have taxes, so you find someone telling you it is at my expense, while in Turkey everything is subject to taxes. The laws on external roads for buses differ from other countries. They must stop every 25 kilometers, whether it is a bus or a taxi serving people to rest, the elderly, the sick, and children. Also, the bus driver has the right to rest so that he does not sleep while driving. This is for public safety. But sometimes the bus driver asks everyone: Should we continue to the other stop? If the answer is yes, he will continue to another rest stop after obtaining everyone’s approval.

The English name for Kurdistan is;

Turkey is the worst boarder procedure to pass. In 2006 I waited 5 hours to pass .

At some point all these borders will be dissolved and there will be an independent Kurdistan. Who would accept borders right through their own country? We will not suffer forever.

Why didn't you take a bus from Dohuk to Istanbul or to Mardin directly and without additional fees in Iraqi dinars? Travel companies exist instead of exposing yourself to all these things and it is much cheaper than this way of transportation.

I live in Erbil Kurdistan, and last year me and my family went to turkey by car, and we went to the border at 10 PM, and we left at 10 AM! So it took us about 12 to 15 hours. Bzhi Kurd Bzhi Kurdistan!
