First Time In Turkey's Kurdish Southeast

  • Today we explored Mardin, a kurdish majority city here in Southeastern Turkey.
We kicked off the day with our first Turkish breakfast in a little local market before buying some of Mardin's iconic blue almonds we found being made fresh in an alleyway.
We then explored the ancient city of Mardin's streets and tried to find an old church, we ended up being pulled into an old lady's house who offered us some delicious Syrian wine and then sold us a bottle!
Next we went for our first tea here in Turkey followed by a delicious fresh falafel wrap.
While walking around we had seen a man carrying a funny looking drink on his back so we tracked him down and bought a glass. I can't say this was my favourite drink to be honest ahah.
We then explored Mardin city a little more, found a tea shop selling famous pigeons and had some super fresh lahmacun.
First day in Turkey's kurdish southeast was fantastic.

Kurdistan was divided into parts that are now within Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran in the early 20th century, following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after World War I
Treaty of Lausanne (1923) Replaced the Treaty of Sèvres, established modern Turkey's borders, and abandoned the idea of an independent Kurdistan.
These treaties formalized the division of Kurdish regions among these four countries, but the dream of a free and big Kurdistan lives on. Despite Turkey and other countries' attempts to erase our history, they couldn't and can't succeed. Our culture and identity remain strong! ✌✌

@@EllisWR That's your ignorance hahaha. We have no problem with Kurds or other races. Our problem is with the separatist Kurds, otherwise the prime minister and president of this country were Kurds. Read the history of the Turks, what kind of a nation we are, and how we protect other victimized nations. Let's take a look at the current state of the Middle East problem, which has survived to this day since the Ottoman Empire withdrew from the Middle East, thanks to the imperialist western states. Let's read a history of the Ottoman Empire, which welcomed Jews, many of whom escaped from the Spanish Inquisition and took refuge in the Ottoman Empire 500 years ago. We are a nation that has lived together in these lands for thousands of years. MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK, the founder of our country, does not mention a single race when talking about Turks. When Turkish is mentioned; "It covers all those who are bound by citizenship, regardless of religion, race, color and gender." The citizenship article in our Constitution defines the citizenship relationship between a person and the Republic of Turkey as a legal bond, abstracting it from the concepts of race, language and religion. The understanding of Turkish citizenship reflects the understanding of nation-state citizenship built on the multinational and multi-religious structure of the Ottoman Empire. Based on this definition, Turkish existence represents cooperation and national identity, and has been the cradle of civilization for thousands of years by blending ethnic and religious differences within the concepts of citizenship. It emphasizes the cultural richness and unity of Anatolia. Western states have been trying to destroy us for about 100-150 years, but they have never succeeded. Otherwise, we do not question anyone's race, language or religion. These lands were peaceful lands until the arrival of Western states. There has been no peace and tranquility in these lands since the imperialist westerners set their sights on these lands. Of course, the so-called Kurdish nationalists who comment on your RUclips page do not know anything about this issue. Also, the so-called Kurds who comment on these pages are separatists who sympathize with the baby-murdering terrorist organization PKK.
