He was one hell of a guitar player and vocalist. His music got me through difficult times, and I will never forget exploring their music when I first got into them.
Got me through some hard times too. Watched the Stockholm Syndrome show on dvd every day whils't in Iraq. Kept me sane and realised life at home is so much better.
He passed away way too young, dude. Shame on that, he was such a talented musician. May his soul rest in peace, you were awesome Alexi, there'll be no one else like you.
Man, alcohol fucking sucks. I watched it destroy this man for years and finally his body just couldn't take it anymore. Love you Alexi, RIP brother. We will ALWAYS remember your amazing music!
@@pascalschulz5894 I may be wrong but from what I undestand he didn't drink much anymore, but I guess all the years of heavy drinking might have left him with some health issues that ultimately played a part in his death. Won't know for sure though unless someone who actually knows what happened decides to tell us later. For now I havent seen anyone telling the public his actual cause of death.
You could tell his health was deteriorating dramatically by his appearance recently. I hadn't paid attention to CoB stuff in years, but about two months ago I came across a video of Alexi, and my first thought was "wow, he doesn't look good." So as sad as it is to say, I wasn't totally shocked to hear of his passing.
Alexi has always been my favorite musician! I have to say though, I don't think teaching was his calling. In all his instructional videos, he's just like, yea and do this and whatever, you know? Its so funny. Forever missed!

I don't think I ever heard him speak like this other than in live shows. I think I'm a couple years older than him yet I looked up to him. I was lucky to see COB live once when they toured with Dimmu and Hypocrisy in the US. I feel that if I had the chance to talk to him, we would have talked about the stuff in this video. He passed away too young. I wish he was still here making music.
Well it's basically Alexis interpretation of a Randy Rhoads Jackson, you can get those pretty cheap and just stick to the bridge pickup and put in an EMG 81 or similar. That will get you very close to an Alexi Flying V in looks, sound and feel. These Randy style Vs are awesome. Well balanced, light, durable, easy to produce with high quality for lower cost and with a Randy V (like JS32 RR 300 bucks) you still have the neck pickup if you want to play some other music since it's a great guitar in general. I plan on getting two, one will br loaded with Randy style pickups, maybe a little less spicey and the other one I'll stick my EMGs in for an Alexi and general purpose metal guitar.
Summary of the video Uh yeh. so umm..uhhh this like arpeggio uhhh thing.. uhh e flat uhh diminished... uh just fucking playing like this uhhh yeh its crazy.
What kind of guitar is he having in this video? LTD? Isn't he supposed to be playing ESP? (I know it's the same company but still, as far as I know, LTD is ESP "limited" or lower quality ESPs so yeah, he should be playing ESP, not LTD for sure)
Why is there such a difference in tone when him and Roope play, no matter what amp or guitar they use? There has to be something else they aren't mentioning on the topic of gear
I used to chase Bodom/Stone/sinergy tones, building racks even had a GP-1000 at one time. Nowadays, it´s stupid simple. A handfull of Boss pedals, a wah, and the Marshall. Only thing is you gotta have that preamp circuitry installed in your guitar. ESP MM-04 is supposedly better than the new EMG stuff.
It doesn't matter, this is advanced level guitar, and if you're attempting it, you shouldn't need every last detail pointing out - in fact that can be irritating sometimes. if you haven't already, check out Chris Zoupa I think he's one of the best advanced teachers on RUclips.
I agree that he doesn't break things down note by note, string by string, fret by fret. but I like the way he teaches. People watching this lesson shouldn't need him to go through it at snail pace, people learning these sweep licks should already be at an advanced level anyway

The Local Band, I actually like them so much :D
how does he sweep with a bridge pickup
not hard if you are used to it
sweeping sounds way cleaner with a neck pick up tho
you shouldn't have to bandaid it
I only sweep with my bridge it's harder and keeps me sharp.
He can because he knows how to mute correctly. It's not harder to sweep with bridge pickup if you can mute.
That was a good lesson
