One way I like to think, even with my current limitations, is that at the speed appropriate to my level, I'm doing things exactly the same way the great guitar legends would be doing them at that speed. In other words, I like to think - well, at least we're equals here. This makes me seek my best as far as I can achieve.

Super informative, been practicing sweeping for a few months now and this made me understand why I could never get the higher notes in the arpeggio to sound good. Thanks Jamie

You are a fantastic teacher and explain the little details very well! I’ve seen other teachers explain it quickly but cut out all of the small details that are important to know. Glad I wasn’t the only one that was having trouble learning this concept. 😂 Bravo!

Rolling figure pressure for clean individual notes along with muting what you don't want are often not even mentioned with sweep picking.
Yet they are the hardest parts by far.

I love sweep picking but I do everything I can to make it not sound robotic. I like sweeping the other caged shapes and adding string skipping and hammer ons and pull offs. You gotta master the roll you need to do with your index finger when sweeping barred sections of the shapes. Don't fear the G, A, and E shapes

I’ve been playing since ‘94 and STILL can’t sweep! I can play fast and accurately but never really sat down to learn it. Now I’m finally going to

    Minor sweep: A12-D10-G9-H10-E8-E12 -E8-H10-G9-D10-A12
    Major sweep: A10-D9-G7-H8-E7-E10 -E7-H8-G7-D9-A10
    Dim sweep: A9-D7-G5-H7-E5-E8 -E5-H7-G5-D7-A9
    [String|Fret]
minor is fun, major is tricky, dim is hell ;D #shiftit

That is the real intermediate purgatory, unbeknownst to is, by our choice, we stay there forever.

I think the problem with sweep-picking is that once a player has mastered it, they break it out in 95% of their solos, making it very dull.

I have a question, does doing upstroke on the lowest string accelerate or slow down the whole sweep? Which one is better, are there any limitations on both ways and why?

jamie do you change picking angle when you play even lines and odd lines (2 notes per string or 3 notes per string)

    • @emresimsek7394

or will you make a video that explain how to hold your pick etc.

I have been practicing for 2 weeks, each day 30 minutes at least for alternate picking technique exercises with metronome, But I see no difference or really really small I feel so awkward about this I don't know if its normal or not

    • @jamierobinson777
      @jamierobinson777  Месяц назад +1

I don’t believe I do. I made a video on Patreon since I was asked about pick slanting where I filmed my picking hand close up and in slow motion to see what is happening at fast speeds. I’m pretty sure my picking angle stays the same.
It does take time and progress can seem minimal at times, but keep pushing with it and it will become easier which will naturally allow you to play faster!

@@jamierobinson777 i always blame my picking angles all the time or my guitar is broken ? Hahahaha but i just need to practice i have been only practice for 14 days consistently. Thank you Jamie you gave my motivation back.
