Learn how to sweep pick in 5 minutes with this lesson from Steve Stine!
Sweep picking is a guitar-playing technique. When sweep picking, the guitarist plays single notes on consecutive strings with a 'sweeping' motion of the pick, while using the fretting hand to produce a specific series of notes that are fast and fluid in sound.

Steve you're a master at explaining and demonstrating , this makes a huge difference for us, thanks a million .
By far one of the best teachers out there
Steve, thank you for the lesson. I’ve been playing for about 11 years and sweep picking was something I always wanted to learn. I’m practicing with a metronome daily and this is helping a lot.
Learned a lot from this lesson! Im inspired to finish the tornado of soul solo!
Most useful video I've found so far. After 25 years of playing, it's time i finally learn this.
You just got me inspired to finish the solo from No more tears by Zakk. I can play the thing decently, but I almost gave up on those sweeps in the end. Thanks Steve!
You are one of the best teachers. Explain things so much better
My guitar teacher from around 1984 taught these as triads. They can sound amazing as you walk your way up and down the neck. Focus on clean. Break your diatonic scales apart and build these. Fun!
Thank you!
Going to be playing around with this today. Thank you.
in twenty years this is the best I've seen it explained 🤟🤘🤟
Steve, over a quarter million subs! Good for you! You have taught a lot of people to play guitar. This is a great lesson. Thank you.
How are you doing? This is the BEST video about sweeping on RUclips. Thank you very much.
I’m working on the solo to No More Tears and it has a bit at the end that incorporates this technique. Thank you!
The one thing I like about watching your videos is that you don’t feel the need to show us what a great guitarist you are, even though we know you are😂
the best lessons ❤❤ thank you so much Steve ❤❤❤❤
sweeping is and will forever be my nemesis
Good tip; thanks! I use that Portable D shape a lot in my playing. It's very handy.
Starting with pinky on A-12, it's an open C shape spliced with a D shape.
Excellently explained! Thank you so much Steve!
Brother this is the closest I have ever been! Thank you!
After I follow your sweep picking technique finally I can do sweep picking, Thanks for your imformative video! I already subscribe into your channel
Awesome this lesson makes sense thank you
Thanks Steve, great intro to sweep picking. Figured I’d come here to try get better at Lepper Messiah solo
mr stine is the man!!! thank you sir!!!
Good teacher he is proficient at alp aspects of guitar.A maestro
Thank you. This was the best explanation for sweeping I seen.
Love the videos and your method of teaching. Am so looking forward to joining guitar zoom. Gotta get my guitar first , lol.
Awesome lesson..you explain great😮 great guitarist Steve👍👍
Still gives me the most trouble of all the picking techniques. I just cant do it cleanly.
Thanks for the help Steve maybe this time it will click. \m/
if i miss a note i instantly want to down pick it. I need to learn to keep playing through my screwups instead of stopping right away..
Awesome 👍👏😎
I like Steve Stine
Thanks really helpful
33 years old and i guess i'll start sweeping now haha. Thanks Steve!
Try at 69 years old that is me ,lol.I did leave off at around 1963 on a electric guitar at 8 years old playing and read the notes to Old Macdonald had a farm ,hopefully I can learn before I die, lol.I just built a 3 string guitar box guitar kit and that was fun.
Nice job dude!! I will try this tomorrow...
Great lesson... thanks!
Great!
Alot of Gilmour stuff is sweeping. I dig it.
Is it similar to when you rake the strings
How long does it take to get the speed down on this? Like an hour a day for a week, month, year? Can anyone answer this, even vaguely?
This is one skill the soloing masters seem to all have and it's one I don't.
A day if you have guitar experience
Great lesson!
Thanks.
4:38 Still DRE, Awwwww Yeaaaaah!
That sounds like the Woody Woodpecker theme. I have not advanced enough to try sweep picking yet but its good to know. I will make this one of my practice exercises so I will be more ready when I get there.
It really sounds like woody woodpecker laughing.😂
Lmao!
Don't wait too long. Learning to Sweep will teach you a lot of fretboard theory 😉🙂
@@markusmaurer8384 I hear ya. I do mess around with it. There are so many techniques to develop I can literally spend 2+ hours on just the techniques I know about. I need to practice the songs I’ve learned at some point.
@markusmaurer8384 how so? 🤔
Thanks Steve...
Hi how are you rock on dude l am learning to play guitar basic power chords
I'm tryng this with acoustic guitar and it's hard as hell
Steve is your picking hand supposed to rest on the guitar, rest on the strings, or hover over the strings when doing scales/solos? Ty
final countdown solo is a good practice
Nice
Thanks Steve. Another weapon in my armoury.
You are a phenominal instructor. Equal parts encouraging and technical. You make it all seem possible.
Diggin your chair. Got one like it in black. You into racing? I’m a sportsman drag racer myself.
I tried a couple sweep picking videos over the past year and just couldnt get it.... Felt so hard for my fingers.
I got this methods basics down in just a few minutes. It felt so much easier just focusing on 2 strings then adding a string at time instead of learning on all 6 strings at once. Thanks so much for your method here, this is excellant!
I keep hearing woody woodpecker's laugh when you're sweeping.
It sounds really funny when you say: You get 4 notes for the price of 2 ..... I didn't know that you have to pay for every single note! 🤣🤣🤣haha joke, but the video is very instructive even for advanced users, keep it up!
Its the guitar equivalent of the really fast double kick ,stomp slide technique. Which you get 2 hits but only lift you leg once That save you masses of wasted energy.
Steve --have failed at sweep picking --20 yrs now --can I hold a C MAJOR Barre chord --then sweep the pick up & down the strings ?---Or do I have to learn to arpeggiate each note ?-yuk !
Sweeping is so hard...
Thanks bud! Yngwie I hate you lol 😂
Woody Woodpecker!
Thumbnail shows tabs but there are no tabs. Groovy.
You can do this anywhere up and down the neck, he is just showing the technique
Erm actually it’s 7 minutes ☝️🤓
7 minute video :/
this didn’t help at all, is it just me?
Yeah
@@420247miloLOL
yes, just you mate. it ok tho. nobody will judge you here.
yes you suck 😂 just joking, i try this for a long time and i still cant coordinate left and right hand. the timing has to be so precise to do this fast...
Practice
I guess it's not surprising, that somebody who thinks the sterile Jazz rain of notes of Allan Holdsworth cannot be questioned, would not understand that Jimmy Page is great, in part, because Precision is an inferiority in guitar playing, ending music in general.
You also seemed unaware of his history pre LED zeppelin, when he played more important records coming out of London than anyone else, as a session musician.
without a doubt you liked your own comment , because nobody in the world cares about whatever it is you're talking about
@@scottdarksetscoleman7042 You'd be surprised how many people have disdain for the rain of notes style of guitar.
Here, I'll like my own comments, now.
