I noticed it also. I completely and strongly disagree. Every group whose music is worth listening to - and which has survived the test of time - had a statement they wanted to make. The Clash, the best of the "punk" groups, were very serious about the significance of their compositions. That's why the band is memorable, and why I've listened to their albums many times. Everyone knows The Rolling Stones catalogue. Few, if any, remember the catalogues of the many crap groups that have faded away. Why is Buddy Holly remembered and the ten thousand others who came after are not? A convincing argument can be made that "Rave On," made in '56, was the first punk song. It certainly had the attitude. The Doors had a producer that made them make as many as a hundred takes - imagine Jim Morrison going along with that, but it's on tape. During the LA Woman sessions, Jim got annoyed at his bandmates and said, "You guys sound like bunch of a cripples trying to make it up a flight of stairs." That organ playing that makes "Light My Fire" instantly stand out is due to Ray Manzarek having studied Bach. It's right there. That is clearly ifluenced by Bach's music. _Who's Next_ is the magnificent remnants of a failed project by Pete Townshend. He considered killing himself. Almost killed himself over it. I don't know why you can't hear it. It's there. Rock 'N' Roll has significant masterpieces in it, all by guys who worked their asses off - and some of whom didn't make it. Brian Wilson had a nervous breakdown he never recovered from after Paul McCartney played him an acetate of "A Day in the Life." Wilson's band, The Beach Boys, made a masterpiece called _Pet Sounds_ which they were quite proud of. But SPLHCB blew it out of the water. My logo is of "The Dark Side of the Moon." A great masterpiece by any standards of music.

Couldnt have said it better myself! I started finding the notes on the 6th string by ear while following along and this was a huge breakthrough for me. I dont have any theory aside from high school music class basic note reading, so this made me feel like I was really getting somewhere.
My husband took lessons from you in Fargo, ND in the 90's for a few months when he was 13 and He still plays everyday & we now have 2 boys that want to play. He says Thank You.
It's harder to solo on acoustic because the strings are heavier, and it's harder to reach the higher frets, even if you have a cutaway guitar... But yes, this technique will work on acoustic guitar. :-) -- GuitarZoom Staff
At 70 years old my guitar journey soloing just took off because of this advice. Finally, although slowly, I can now take a solo when jamming with my friends. Thank you and much appreciated.
+Dennis Sågström actually you mean scandanavia . its what is now denmark, norway and sweden. they were all norse(north) lands the languages are all related so you can tell .
Frank Gutierrez Bro the north as you refeer is Sweden, Also im Swedish I don't think you need to explain anything to me ;) And Danish has almost nothing related to the Swedish language, but Norweigan do, Hell even the Finish people talk better Swedish then Danish on the other hand Finish people have the option to learn Swedish in school while Danish people drink beer all day x)

Wow this is very helpful 👏 Me and my 12 yr old daughter thinking about buying a electric guitar 🎸 we have acoustic guitar for now and really want her to have an electric guitar and learn doing solo. We know only basic chords when we play and started to think It's time for her to learn some more.
Thanks for keeping it simple. I'm a 62 year old with ADHD and autism and found this a joy. You brought some sunshine to Scotland this morning, much needed!
I'm so glad u wrote this. I've been studying almost daily a year come September 7,2024 I want so much to master a song but nothing keeps my attention long enough 😂😂😂
guys i gotta tell you something, i watched this 2 years ago. back then i didnt know how to solo. but now people call me sometimes guitar hero and steves lesson helped me. i even named my guitar to steve lol
I played for 10 years before there was RUclips, stopped and started again recently after my son was born. I used to be intimidated and avoided learning anything about solos. Your videos have made me pursue soloing without fear, knowing I will one day be proficient. Thank you!
Me too! Iplayed for years, got to a point and stuck there for more years. I should have taken lessons. Never mind. Now my son has started playing and has got me going again. This time weve got youtube helping haha. Im very relaxed about it though. It doesnt matter what i do...im hoping my son really enjoys it and keeps at it! Agree, this guys great and doesnt make you feel like a plum. Happy picking!

True! Unlike others, he doesn’t tell you exactly what to do, but gives you the basics and the template to create your own personal solos! Learn this on major chords, then on minor chords, then on 7th, Sus chords, augmented chords, then you can play almost ANYTHING!!
This guy is the best guitar teacher I have ever seen. His attitude and his insights are perfect. Also it's great that he doesn't use backing tracks so that we can clearly hear exactly what he's doing. He's even got names for particular techniques ("chord chasing"), and it's obvious that he actually cares that what he's doing works--that students are actually learning. What an awesome teacher.
You have to be one of the nicest human beings ever. You seem genuinely kind and care about those who want to learn. People like me appreciate your generosity, as some people don’t want to share their knowledge and see others succeed. You were able to hold my attention for the entire video (which says a lot). Keep on helping those who love guitar. If it isn’t already, it’ll be very rewarding for you. Thanks again for sharing!
that's exactly the words for people like him who shares their knowledge. there are some selfish out there who doesn't want to share even you ask them. that's my experienced in life as going to be 72yrs.young. thanks to all
I am 42 years old and always wanted to learn the guitar. My father is an amazing guitar player and I am a drummer, but wasn't happy always staying in the background. Dad has taught me a lot over the years and I have to say I have learned more in the last couple of months following you Steve on guitar zoom than I have with my dad my whole life. (Don't tell him) Thankyou for bringing me to the front of the stage. You are amazingly talented and I love your style of playing/teaching. God bless
Hi Elvis! Thanks for your kind words. I've known quite a few drummers who switched to guitar and your understanding of rhythm is going to boost your learning. Rhythm is what makes the music flow. Keep up the good work and thanks again!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm 58 yrs old picking up a guitar for my first time. I appreciate how you demonstrate everything from beginning to end using easy to understand terminology. You're a great teacher. I can't make any music yet, but I'm going to keep trying.
Steve you are a great teacher, because you explain things in such a way, and your enthusiasm is contagious and give confidance. This really helps me with trying to do chord fill-ins on my semi acoustic, and you just provided the keys for me to learn Blues. So many likes - I wonder why!!!!
The best guitar lesson i have ever had , Wish i had known this 50 years ago when my dad bought me my first guitar at age 11 , Thank you very much Steve .
That's very similar to the comment I just posted. Instead all those years ago you were taught, if you want to solo you need to learn this scale and that scale and so go practice those scales. Had I known this trick, it would have set me on an instant path to having fun.
Backyard Iron 60 Same boat as you my friend, Over thought everything as a kid and all I ever really needed was someone to show me without all the faff how to just have a little fun, and this guy nails it. Just think, if RUclips was around 50 years ago, we might’ve both been up there now playing with Clapton 🎸 👍
He just made it fun for me to play! Always knew the basic open chords, but never thought I'd get passed that! It's 2am...so I'll have to wait till tomorrow!

Been playing rhythm for 30 years, could NEVER figure out how to play lead until now this makes sense, it's just the beginning of what you need to do and you explained it very well, you are a great teacher, thanks.
Thank you, Steve. I've been searching for this for fifty years, as I learned and practiced the pentatonic and blues scales without knowing how to use them. This demo tied all that together. I can now hear the lead notes I would play with the patterns you are showing! and now know how they work!

I am really happy to see a teacher actually teaching this method of soloing I never see anyone talk about it. When I was learning to play solos I had to find this out by myself by listening to the solo at the beginning of Iggy and the Stooges Search and Destroy and had a sort of eureka moment.
I just recently bought a guitar, so I'm new to all of this. You explained more in 10 minutes than I was able to pick up from hours of other videos. Thank you Steve.

Steve, this is my first post ever on a computer. I am going to be 52 and just learning guitar. I purchased books and dvd's as well as watched you tube video's. I had to create a channel to comment and I have to say, I like your video. It provided opportunity for me to explore all around the neck. I well be watching more of your videos. Looking forward to more of your instructions. Please keep it up.
He is one if not the best teacher I ever seen & i've been playing for years I had the prototype of Guitar Magazine 1st issue & all of em up to about a year ago when Guitar Mag started going way down hill & pushing Satanic bands that no one knows & are not good in their own style & when they started pushing Communism that was it for me. He will make it so understandable you can be as good as you want to be w/lessons like his. I paid for those VHS tapes that taught me not much & DVD's Mags books… Steve is a master Teacher & worth being paid for his work but here it is for all to see for free it's like I want to send him some funds to bless em for what he has done for people who want to learn . many that are older & can play a little refuse to take lessons man they are missing out. I always pick up something no matter how elementary the lesson is there's gold in there somewhere that even the seasoned player can use or have a broader understanding.
Holy Sh*t!! I have been away from guitar and over 15 years and just getting back into it, and I have been searching for the best way to actually 'learn' the guitar properly, and I think I have found it. I have tried 4 other programs and nothing is as well explained as you. Take my money!! I'll be signing up for your masterclass offering. Well done and thank you!

This teaching technique is so amazing!YOU are truly a great teacher man !!! I can now finally understand how to do it ,WOW..😮 Thank you for giving me a simple but yet so useful tool to follow for the rest of my journey of how to learn to play guitar..Thank you ,thank you so much my brother!!!
This is a great lesson but l wanna add a little information to that lesson. This guy shows a great way to soloing but When he played G, and the note which is exist right below of e string is too low so it might effect badly to your playing pleasure. So use the octav thing. Every 12 fred, notes repeat theirselves. So if that note is too low for u, Go 12 fret high of it and play 6 note on that fret. I hope l can tell u guys well. Keep rockin!
All these notes he played are in a blues scale and is fine in that mode. He kept it simple so the beginner can have fun and be able to play something that wouldn't take a lot of effort or music theory to do.
So if I played to a G chord, instead of playing on the 3rd fret on the A-string, I can play on the 15th Fret on the A-string? Thanks for the comment btw.
Thank you so much for this. I've been struggling to make any since of soloing. This is the first lesson I've had fun with and not sounded like a hack. Great Teacher.
Dude. This is a game changer! I guess I was in the right place at the right time when I watched the vid. I've been playing off an on since I was 15. I'm 31 now. Life goes by quick. I've been sticking with the electric for over a year now and have made leaps and bounds in regards to progressing on the guitar. This is the ONE video that makes sense. No over the top music theory diving into Ionian or Phyrigian modes. Nothing that isn't too simple but isn't too complicated. Just finding the box and playing within the parameters of that chord structure such as A or G. I'm not gonna mention the other guy here on YT that does guitar lessons but we all know who he is. You've covered more in 5 minutes than I have watching his videos covering scales, modes and soloing. If I have to recommend one video when it comes to soloing, you're the man, Steve!!!! This makes sense. Now if I can chickenpick like Knopfler I'll be a happy camper! Thanks a million!
10 years playing as second guitarist and juat play a rhythm part, now i think i can try to put some new thing in my rhythm... Good lesson.. Will keep follow this channel to learn new thing.. Love it
ive been playing guitar for about 7 years now, i did stop playing for a good while but man god damn you are making it all come back to me, thankyou. MUSIC HEALS
It does!! I've known the open chords for years, but that was it....this just opened my eyes and made it exciting....not feeling so depressed right now!
Steve, you have so many tricks and ideas that brings a beginner in and keeps them engaged. You make it interesting. You are so far ahead of most teachers.
Tbh i can't afford guitar lessons, and most video tutorial i watch is kinda hard to follow, until i found your video,it's so easy to understand even for a noob like me. Thanks for the free knowledge dude, you're a great teacher
I'm 63 years old - been playing guitar since I was a teenager. In the last 4 minutes, I've learned more about playing lead than ever before! Thank you!
Only 4 minutes into the video, I've learned a lot of things for a beginner like me, best guitar teacher ever, thank you very much, during my time in search for "how to solo for beginners", this video compared to others is the most helpful one, I'm glad that I've found this video, definitely subscribing to this channel

So true

How old is this guy?
Wait I thought this guy is like 25
Great story !
No worries
he is actually among the very few who really teaches without making you confused. love his style of teaching. kudos
will it possible with acoustic?
It's harder to solo on acoustic because the strings are heavier, and it's harder to reach the higher frets, even if you have a cutaway guitar...
But yes, this technique will work on acoustic guitar. :-)

Very nice and thank you for teaching us.
What about minor chords?
At 70 years old my guitar journey soloing just took off because of this advice. Finally, although slowly, I can now take a solo when jamming with my friends. Thank you and much appreciated.
Nice to hear.... Keep it up 🎉🎉🎉

Same here. 58 years of screwing around and getting nowhere. Awesome teacher
Haha totally agree!
The teacher on the u tube channel....The art of Guitar is really really good too.
I like the way he doesn't show off. Most guys on RUclips immediately assault you with how fast they are but everything Steve does is easy enough:)

Aykut Aydoğdu n
Richard Roy Sutton l am glad lf I could help!
Yes, you can. You're welcome!
Fantastic teacher: you are giving me the desire to learn it!

Where was this lesson when I was trying to memorize all major, minor, pentatonic, scales......
THANKS MAN.
It was a subset of the minor pentatonic scale practice you speak of! The secret to his magic is he's teaching phrasing and fun too.
This guy is great.

How could someone dislike this masterpiece lesson?!
Un enthusiastic stubborn guitar teachers who can’t keep clients and suck the interest and the money out of new players
Probably stuck in a *rut* 😉
No one would dislike this type of a teaching
Was just messing with this exercise and found the into to Lateralus lol
Just took my guitar out of the closet after 20+ years. Thanks for the inspiration!
