📺 ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
In this guitar lesson, Steve Stine teaches you the #1 tip to play emotional, melodic guitar solos starts with making connections between the rhythm and chords that are being played, and your scale of choice.
Whether you know your music/guitar theory or not, learning how to "see" the fretboard's chords and scales and how they interact is essential to understand how to create melody in your guitar soloing.
This is the first step, needless to say the learning and education keeps going, but learning how to make that first connection is really important to your guitar playing success.
Learning to visualize your fretboard with guitar chords AND scales will continue to open up opportunites for more creative guitar solos, so stick to it and don't give up!

Your example of a 'bad' solo at the beginning is still better than any solo I've ever improvised.
Ha! You are too kind.
I feel your pain
I was just thinking the same thing!
Same here!
haha I'm going to say the same thing..
I've watched a ton of guitar teachers on RUclips and the only one that can hold my interest long enough for a 20 minute video is Steve Stine. God Bless you, double-S.
what the heck it was 20 min?! it was like 10 or something with at least an hour of teaching from other teachers.
Thanks Steve, I started playing when I was 13, have never got any better since I was 16, I am now 63. You have opened my eyes to the theory behind music in a personable, easily understood way. I love your laid back presentation. Brilliant.
I have had similar experience as you both. And Steve is definitely bringing out the magic in making music and soloing for me too
I like Steve's teaching style. I tend to overthink things and his mentality of just having fun and don't worry about perfection is right on.
You should get the best guitar tutor in RUclips award. :)
You totally deserve a Wikipedia page.
Does wikipedia deserve steve tho?

Steve Stine is a greatest teacher I ever had. He explains a step by step technique very clearly and is very easy for a beginner like me to understand all the chords. Thank you very much Steve. I would give you five star score and will share it to social media so that more people can learn gitar from your channel. God bless you and family.
Thank you
Wonderful video. Really opened up my mind a bit! Question about your tone, though. I love it. How are you achieving it?
OMG!! i cant believe I’ve been playing for yrs without this knowledge. THANK YOU!!
Lemme know link of backing track, please.
You are just awesome.. anything which you explain makes so much sense and opens new world of ideas to explore!!!! God bless you Steve 🙏...
Really hard to believe that this level of instruction is free. Makes me WANT to donate him somehow. ☺
Who can say more than has been below? You, my friend, Rock in every way. May you Stay Well. Peace.
Steve! This is gold for me! Thank you thank you so much! Regards
Very good lesson
Thank you 🙏
This video lesson is one of the best I've seen (even by Steve). It helps de-mystify what the pros are doing when they're moving around the fretboard, makes it understandable, and most importantly teaches why each of these things (scales, alternate chord fingerings, CAGED, etc.) is worth studying. It is the perfect mix of theory with fun needed to inspire beginners. Thanks!
I've seen plenty of videos stating that I should be connecting the solo to the underlying chords, but having Steve explain it in this way and breaking the thought process down like this is really inspirational. Using this same process it would be great to see a well known solo broken down to see how the target notes are relating to the chords. Great work Steve, Thanks.
This video is incredible! Steve is able to communicate at audiences at various skill levels at the same time.
Thanks for the kind words, Chris! And thanks for watching! :-)

Agreed 100% with all compliments to this guy.he is a excellent musician who was born to teach.👍👍👍👍👍
Steve the king!
After watching tons of video lessons made by youtubers instead of teachers I finally found your videos, and they are so clear and useful that made me want to practice a bit more everyday. Beyond that, Your pronunciation and your way to explain make it easy to understand to people whose first language isn't English. Thanks a lot! Keep making these awesome videos!
Thank you Mariano!
"Dangling from the cliff" .... oh yes, I know that feeling. Trouble is, I'm just sitting on my couch at the time!
Brilliantly friendly, clear and helpful tutorial. Also good to hear an overdriven guitar that actually sounds clear and musical. Great stuff.
You're an awesome teacher Steve, thank you for all the great content 👍
Very very very important lesson!!!
We're not worthy!
Thank you sooo much for your amazing videos. They have helped my playing no end.
When I'm sober and have my guitar in my hands. I'm definitely coming back. Finally someone who explains shit easily (so far, you have a lot of videos for me to watch yet!!)
Sober is key while learning & preforming, best of luck my friend 🤘🎸👍
@@darrelparrish4384 I totally understand and will agree with you about it, he would notice quite a difference being sober. I hope he takes these words for better luck with his guitar playing while sober, party afterwards of practicing. I don't prefer to myself, I can't think when I need to!
Im not a beginner but in behalf of the beginners, thank you steve.. you are a very patient and beginner friendly teacher..
Thank you so much, Steve. It really helps me a lot!
Woah, this guy LITERALLY looks like that guy from parks and rec
He will have millions of subs. He’s a pro and friendly.
Great stuff bro! U have a way of making things that ive always had a hard time grasping understandable..many times during watching your vids lightbulbs are finally going off...thank u so much!
Legend!
You are amazing Steve thank you for your time, talent and simple explanations.
Thx Steve it helps me a lot
Excellent explanation of some fundamental principles. Thanks.
It's a simple but (at least to me) astonishing idea that even the greatest improvisers prepare for their solos by working out target notes, colors, phrases, licks, etc. It's not cheating! I wonder how many of the most famous improvised lines were planned.
Masterclass. Thank you!
LOOL that's Steve Vai... not Stine
One of the best lessons I've seen.. totally useful and broken down into bite sized chunks before moving on to the next stage. This really helps, thanks for explaining it so well !
Steve, always thought that playing solos was such a difficult thing to do but watching your lessons really makes me feel like practicing everything you show. Let me tell you that you are an excellent teacher as well as a musician. Thanks a lot!
This made learning easier and more fun. Now i have to be a little more patient and think more. Thanks Professor Stine. God Bless you.
Great lesson!
@Danny Spitzer
I totally agree, Steve's the coolest.
Thanks for the kind words, Charlie! :-)

Best ever guitar teacher ... very friendly more power sir...rock on here in philippines
Thank you! Your example is very helpful. I am going to use my Loop Station to put together the C, G, Am & F backing track and practice these suggestions. I do believe your videos are the best instructional videos. This example in particular is right about where I am at with scales and trying to be more melodic instead of sounding like I am just running through scales. I'm just an old guy playing in my basement for fun. Thanks again!
Liken to playing bass lines and intervals. Mastering keyboard is the key to guitar playing
Steve is a highly speech-capable/talented person, easy to understand and follow an idea.
It all sounded melodic to me🤔🤔
Oh I play drums
Hi Steve, you are the best of the best. Your lessons are priceless. Every one of those lessons is amazing. I have fallen in love with this and want to work on it but I need, I really need to know what the background music is, how can I get it? I beg for your help and with regards bro.
Steve... thank you man. You've not only broken down and demystified soloing for me but reinvigorated my enthusiasm to practice and play more. Blessings...:-)
Thank you! Glad the videos are helping you.
one of the best youtube videos about guitar i have seen. After watching this I finally understand why is so important to learn triads all over the fretboard, seeing them superposed to the scales can really help to see on which notes to land on each chord that is being played. Thanks so much for this Steve !
I have been playing guitar for over 30 years, I am a guy that plays at home and rarely plays with others, largely due to fear of not being good enough. I have had lessons several times over the years....your approach is awesome...just enough theory and pragmatic thinking to make this not only easy to understand but inspiring...you have a gift as a teacher...I am hooked...
Steve... your the best guitar teacher ever... I've been playing guitar for fifty four years and never took a lesson, but then I got to see one of YOUR videos about a year ago and have been watching ever since... thanks so much for sharing your experience and knowledge and wisdom... your a natural born MUSICIAN & Guitar player...
I saw this video again and it stunned me. It reminds me when I was working as Field Engineer in Schlumberger, my instructor told me that 70% of your job is "planning". Yes, planning before the job actually starts. So, less surprises when the job actually takes place. Same as your message. Thank you Steve.
Thank you sir Steve it's a big help for me..😊👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow. This is a great video. This really makes a lot of sense. Super helpful. Really helps me understand how to sound better!
Been playing drums & guitar for yrs but never Lead guitar. Steve is incredible Teacher just did his 1st Video time to apply . thx Steve
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LESSONS STEVE STINE. I REALLY LEARNED A LOT. REALLY FANTASTIC. MORE POWER TO YOU! :)
I love the way you teach so much, thank you for making it available for us to watch.
Dude, amazing video!! how you explain is really simple to understand the concept!!! helped me a lot, thanks for sharing your knowledge
You make it simple enough for beginners to understand, as well as all the levels above that! great teaching.
From Brazil: Man you are a Very good teacher...you deserve a Oscar....Lol... Gonna share with my guitar classmate...
This guy is so good. SUBSCRIBED> SHARED MANY
I like how how you tied all the elements of that explanation together - just like building a solo
I just decided in this moment to start lo learn to play When the World say goodbye to pandemic.
It Doesn't matter that this year I arrive yo my 50 years old birthday in june 21st.
🎸
Yo youre ma man...thnx for this incredible tip.....hatsoff...God bless you and your family
I have never seen a guitar instructor like Steve . He is truly the one who knows how to teach . One thing I wish Steve could do is to show the chords/scales as he plays on the top right so we know more what Steve is playing and especially with the dots on the strings Steve plays. That would be completely perfect .
Cést grâce à vous Steve que je progresse. C'est clair c'est facile et c'est simple! Merci beaucoup.
You're a good teacher, thanks for sharing. The world needs more GOOD guitar players!
Scales are for fish and music theory is for the deaf, neither of which have working ears. As a song writer I make up chords and don't even know if they are As Ds, majors or minors or whatever. Just play what SOUNDS right.
Hi Steve, great teaching, where can I download the backing track used here.. like to jam to it..
Thanks...
7:13 This actually really helps. It's so simply but I never even thought about that. To me a solo was always impro. Never even thought of pre plan it. Though take this with a grain of salt since it's from a beginner guitar player whose just learning some open chords right now.
Thank you brother Steve. Great lesson. Making sense now. Wow. I am inspired.
Thankyou so much for text Indonesia langguage.
Great lesson, Steve. Thanks!
So useful! Just like all your videos,Steve. Thanks very much for your inspiration! Greetings from Budapest,Hungary✌️
That was really useful Steve. I really struggle with trying to understand improv and soloing. Thanks man!
I have to agree with all others here, you ARE EXCELLENT and very in tune with who your audience is. When you mentioned not knowing theory I perked up as I have played since I was a kid but didnt know any chords (still dont at 45 LOL) I go by ear but have played in many bands. Yes it is nerve wracking not to know the "box" to play in but I love the freedom of going all around the fret board and bending (you get really good at it with my uneducated method...) Needless to say it's important to let people know that even though they haven't taken formal classes the ear/feeling or eye (as you pointed out) is just as critical. And yes, I'm the 50/50 guy you mentioned but more towards the 30/70 now..lol.
Just discovered your channel and I'm blown away by your instruction and knowledge. Thank you
Hot damn Steven.....hahah this is awesome! Appreciate what you do man, metric tons!
Very good musician, Very knowledgeable and great at explaining theory. Got my sub!
Well now......definitely worth the price of admission! Light bulb over the head type of stuff!
