Fuckin sucks man, this one hit hard. CoB was my first concert, they served as an introduction to my first and thus far lifelong metalhead friends. My hyper Christian dad, who was very against me listening to metal, heard CoB and bought me tickets immediately saying "you're not missing this one bud." My gf in high school didn't like metal much, but even she liked CoB, which was the coolest thing to me at the time. Alexi brought so much lasting joy to my life.
This guy writes riffs that people would kill for. Even though he can shred, so can a million other players, but in my opinion a good riff is harder to write and more original. He was a true original. A monumental talent and guitar player. Sadly destined to become almost a mythical figure given his untimely passing. Thank you alexi. 🤘
This, the discussion always tend to lean towards his solos and shredding, but what has kept me CoB and Alexi fan all these year was his riffs. And the influence of classical music which Alexi brought to metal and nowadays so many bands and artist are doing the same. He is still my hero, he won't die in my mind before I die too.
The riffs in this particular song has everything. Going from heavy chugging into a fast thrash metal riff into an even faster gallop. Laiho churned out riffs like that for fun.

Dear haters, Listen to Kissing The Shadows, Hatcrew Deathroll, Deadnight Warrior, or Silent Night Bodom Night. Love, A fan who actually forms opinions of a guitarist by listening to more than one song.
I love the neo-classical metal elements in present in COBs music because it pays homage to the tonal formality that arose shortly after the epoch of music as a field of science and academic discipline.
Man I was such a huge fan of COB in high school and its kind of sad that this type metal isn't what people want to do anymore but that's just how it goes. Alexi's style of playing and writing at the time was extremely influential on young metal guitarists.
I perfectly understand the reaction of most. The two songs on EMG are really far from COB highlights. Truth is, Alexi is an amazing talented guitarist and seriously, after seeing him live a few times, following his bands for years, the last 2 or even 3 albums have been a lot less technical and more groovy. Good stuff but if you're looking for technical stuff, not the right albums to buy. Alexi's technique is excellent and is above pretty anyone posting here. The guy was already impressing your parents when they were 16 years old lol. I was listening to this band back in highschool in the 90s.
