Zakk has been one of my biggest influences. To me he’s one of the greatest of all time. He plays the F’ outta the guitar but still maintains a sense of soul to his playing even when he’s playing pentatonic’s at lightning speed. That’s not easy to do.
just got a friend into ozzy that only listens to rap. he went to a concert and when he came back he said "man there was this biker guy with a swirl guitar that was just awesome. i need to find out who that was." i said "dude you just saw zakk wylde." it was just funny that even someone who doesnt know anything about ozzy or sabbath or black label still notices the awesomeness.

I mean jimi Hendrix used the minor pentatonic scale a lot. And I dont think anyone would refer to Jimi's playing as boring. Also dont think I've ever heard anyone call any scale ever boring let alone the pentatonic. Minor pentatonic is like the most versatile scale in the world haha. Literally used in every single genre. His improvisation shows that you dont need to be a very knowledgeable (theory based) musician but be a musician from the heart....its then you create something as beautiful as this...

Heres the thing. He's pentatonic all the way. Yet, it doesn't sound like he's just running scales. That's where music theory comes into play. The backing track was icing on the cake. It was necessary for the experience.

The comments on this are great! I saw BLS a few years ago and they were every bit as good as you'd expect. I was really impressed how he walked into the middle of the crowd at the back of the venue and proceeded to improv-shred for about 10 minutes while everyone formed a circle around him and got a close up look of a barbarian warlord wearing a kilt.

My very close childhood friend from the south bay area, met, also received a personal onsite picture with zakk at namm". Mentioned zakk is a very friendly person, and has a lick or 2 in his bag of tricks". Lol. Really made my friends day bright, he was estactic to meet zakk in person. Good person to ask towards equipment/electronics as well, put him in a very good direction towards his progress.
