one of the greatest solos of all time, still get goosebumps hearing the buildup
Agreed my friend!
Yeah one of my favorites
Huge SRV fan here.... and i agree. This solo is sauce
Yes! Dude is Viking power god of awesomeness in real fucking life every day of his life.
All of his solos it's like you can feel the emotion every time no matter what. He is the god of guitar solos.
Remember folks, it's not how fast you play, but the notes chosen and executed at the right time.
This goes for ANY instrument
That's why 1:26 made me so damn nervous!
3:41 5:00
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I tend to disagree, once you learn those scales it's not really too hard playing it like that, i see some other techniques he's using that are tough to nail, smaller details i suppose ! @@bradford_shaun_murray
Exactly! A lot of younger guitarists are just showing with their technique but their music don’t matter.
I can’t even imagine the world of rock guitar without Zakk Wylde. What a player
😁🤟
🤘🤘🤘
He's as legendary as Hendrix IMHO
@brentondudley3925 you do realize you can say Zakk is a Legend without comparing him to Jimi there wouldn't be an ozzy a zakk a slash kerry king kirk NOBODY if it wasn't for ppl like chuck berry and Jimi Hendrix so cut that nonsense and just appreciate Rock and it's legends stop comparing greatness it's annoying
@@Landlord0fTheFilthy Jeez lol
This stressed me out first time because I thought Zakk wasn’t going to get the slide on in time.
Hahahahahahaha, same dude
😂😂😂😂 me too
I love when Zakk does "serious" play throughs, so much talent. I also like the funny stuff he does, but when he's in serious mode... Holy Shit!!
He still has to throw in that look after the solo though 😂
It's like in basketball when Shaq back in the day went to the Beast Mode. :D First funny and all and then you have this pissed off juggernaut with NO humor at all.
Right?? I was just about to comment the same thing. I really dig these serious play through too like if he is truly concentrating to play them to the TEE.
He was so talented it was sickening and he actually showed it (Ozzy, Pride 'n Glory, Book of Shadows)...then once the BLS shit started, all down hill from there and its the same played out shit and he is the epitome of a fucking wanker....disgusting fast pentatonic licks over EVERYTHING. meh! smh!
Totally AGREED!!!!!
this is the cleanest i've heard him play in years, it's great to see he's still got it, what a monster player
He puts out videos of him playing super clean.. I think he just carried away with trying to keep everything fast like the younger shredders. Not that he doesn't have the speed.. I think he just stopped "feeling" it as much as he used to. But he is getting older and trying to keep his Wylde (lol) stage presence Def messes with his cleanliness
Same thing I thought , he’s progressed so much after coming out the gate hall of famer is insane
He’s evolved that arpeggiated sequence so cleanly at the end it looks beyond effortless for him , and sounds like a fuckn computer
You're right. Best playing I've heard from him in ages. Phenomenal. I first saw him live with Ozzy in '88 on the No Rest tour. I was totally blown away. I'd seen Ozzy with Jake before that on the Ultimate Sin tour. Both are great players, just different. I wish I could play 1% as well.
this guy has it like aids , he will always have it !
Damn right he’s already had it always will 💯
For my money . I think this is one of Ozzy`s best songs, maybe even number one (solo career) ,The tone , the arrangement , the feel , This song continously blows my mind every time I hear it .To see Zakk play it now all these years later , AMAZING, Thanks Zakk
I'm so agree with you. In my opinion this is the best song from Ozzy Osbourne and Shot In The Dark second best. Everything about this song is perfect and i have to play this song on repeat everytime i play it.
Yeah thrasher. It has the heavy guitars, the ozzy vocal vibrato screeze and the evil expansive elton john beetles teleportation.
I love that zakk let's the guitar slurk into the melody and dosent try and note blast through it. In no rush to crush
Gee thanks, self-appointed expert of the internet. We couldn't have possibly figured that out on our own. Good thing you were here to tell us all.
@@UnchainedEruption you`re welcome doucebag .
@@Lokeacola i love that haha
That harmonic on the low E gets me everytime!
Right!
literally one of the reasons I like some of Zakk's riffs and solos over Randy's
Yes!!!
Amen brother 🤘🏼
Zakk and Dime were so good at harmonics.
I remember hearing this for the first time when I was 9 years old. I got a walkman for Christmas in 1991 and we went to Sam Goody for CDs and cassettes. My mom bought me Rush "Exit Stage Left", Van Halen "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge", Metallica "Black Album", and Ozzy "No More Tears". Thanks for the good music mom!
You lucky bastard, your mum was awesome, so was mine God rest her soul 👍🍻🇦🇺
I bought this out of a "bargain bin" in a small town grocery store (Stang's) in small town (ST Regis) Montana during the summer of 1990. The store didnt sell music or have any other tapes for sale. It was ridiculously cheap, so I actually had the money for it...bought it...and rocked it all summer long (and then some).
@@dasmuss6174 Im sorry she's no longer with you. For some reason your comment is gone but I was able to see it when I went back thru notifications.
@@Gekokujo76 that's awesome, good memories!
King Nothing!!!! Where’s your Crown !!!!
Zakks tone and style is just perfection in this era. Ozzy knows how to pick a guitarist for sure.
Yes he does! He’s got other two that backed up for him as well, Jake E. Lee (my personal fav), and the great Randy Rhoads!
Actually Sharon does, or at least she knows who to ask for a rec.
I think he has the worst tone of any guitarist ever. so saturated
@@levisarenpa5100 Randy even nailed Sharon backstage one night and Ozzy kept him in the band ;)
Ozzy or Sharon???
more than 30 years have passed since the album was released and still these riffs giving a person goosebumps
Same.
Wasn't this album released in September '91?
@@stacychamness9077 it was indeed
You probably enjoy Metallica Black album as well
@@commonsenseintellectual5769 ...And nothing else matters...
The consistency of the pitch harmonic sound...wow.
its so hard to hit that on the low E idk how he does it every single time
@cosmicbro1973 you don't press the note. Just hold your finger barely touching very close to or on the bar for the 3rd fret, and strum like a natural harmonic. It hits every time. Easiest "pinch" harmonic to do. But you don't have to pinch at all.
@@e-man7143not how it’s played though. He bends it also
@@vaiman7777 yeah I'm aware.... you can bend the way I'm talking about too. It's weird.
@@vaiman7777 and isn't it more of a vibrato than a bend I feel like?
That solo is so legendary…
The solo that gets me every time. Zakk is in my opinion one of the absolute greats. The fact that he is influenced by Iommi, Page, Hendrix, Rhoades and EVH is so obvious when you hear him play. He fused them all together and made it his sound. No matter what you like, he can play it.
That's true but in the past 20 years I think his playing has gotten kinda sloppy and hasn't been that creative IMO!
One of the great show-stopper solos.. Lol, him looking every time for the slide; I gave up long ago and just used cigarette lighters! 😅
@@tyreechiejackstone7379 I used a ceiling fan extension tube that I had lying around. It's made of brass and I cut it and used steel wool to smooth it out. It worked pretty good but I just bought a bottle slide....
Definitely one of my fav solos
Zakk & George Lynch have remained top level and never lost it all though their careers.
The first time that I heard this solo it almost brought a tear to my eye. I was about seven years old, and I remember grabbing my mom‘s broom and restarting the song and air playing the solo on the broom over and over again.. about a month letter my mom bought me my first guitar a lefty Epiphone Les Paul standard… if it wasn’t for this solo I would’ve probably never tried to learn guitar…. Easily, hands-down, one of the greatest solos ever recorded…… in my opinion of course…
Me too
Ozzy's success definitely played a role in his choices of some of the best guitarist in the world.
The guitar tone on this album is amazing. Also, that vibrato 🤌🤌🤌
The vibrato is everything on this track, something that I wish I could master.
@@replicated Vibrato is so cool because it's basically the artist's signature in a way. Zakk's vibrato sounds different from Dime's, Dime's sounds different then EVH's...and so on.
"Mastering" vibrato for every player is basically just getting your signature in there.... Can be aggressive, can be tight, can be looser/untamed...However you choose to do it and nailing a consistent sound your way is how you master it my dude. Just riff out and bend those stringssss 🤘
Definitely my favorite Zakk Wylde composition. Dark, Heavy and Sleazy.
Yeah this may have been Ozzy's true heavy metal album , definitely darker and heavier IMO! Although No Rest for the Wicked was pretty fucking heavy!
@@mikeg6666 No More Tears is my favorite Zakk era album for sure. I actually really like Ozzmosis as well.
@@duke_of_haze That album was okay but after that they started sounding the same...
@@mikeg6666 You think so? I liked Down To Earth a lot too. Black Rain and Scream are where I started to get a little fatigued with Zakk. Patient No. 9 is really good though. Having multiple guitarists has really switched it up. Imo of course.
@@duke_of_haze Yeah I don't know , to me they have a similar sound and I didn't care for his latest album. I guess I'm just more of a purest when it comes to Ozzy , I get he's older now and I understand that his musical taste is changing. This latest album is almost to Elton John sounding , if that makes sense. I need more of an aggressive up beat sound. Most of the songs sound the same too me. But again that's subjective to personal preference!✌️
This is a masterpiece of guitar writing. The main riff, dancing between regular and slide playing is superb. The pinch harmonics, incredible. The solo….almost a song within itself. Zakk is one of the greats for sure. Incorporating chicken pickin into rock….Jesus.
Just casually knocking this out... Granted it's his own composition but still...effortless. Amazing. Zakk is so fucking good.
Amazing. You hardly ever hear a live performance played exactly like it’s played on the actual track. I know this was meant to be played that way but it’s still unique to see this guy playing it just like he’s actually in the recoding studio recording it. He’s playing it to absolute perfection. I love it.
Yes! I am stealing these for an Ozzy themed karaoke night 🤘🏻😂
Agreed! You couldn’t have said it better.
Unless the performance was recorded in one continuous camera shot to prove otherwise (which it wasn't btw), it's more closer to a recording session than a live performance where he has to play the whole song in one take.
To be fair though, the dude has probably played this song like 450,000 times, so doing it right shouldn't be hard. Looks like he's about to fall asleep at a couple points. Funny thing is, it would probably sound just as good if he played it in his sleep. lol
because he can not do it
A song we've heard a million times before but to see the man play it right before our very eyes is SO FKING AWESOME!!! This is my opinion, but the guitar solo in this song is one of the best solos EVER. It has so damn much feeling and just builds and builds and then the epic finish. One of the best songs from one one the best bands.
again his foot pedals are carrying the song wake up zakk fans
It's up there with cemetery gates
It was cool seeing him play it, hope he had a stand for that slede & didn't have to keep picking it up off the Floor during shows.
It's a Good solo BUT I think the solo in Miracle man is Better
@@jerrysmithers1429 😂 such a hater....
@@jerrysmithers1429the pedals every other guitarist has access to? It is simply seasoning added to an unbelievable steak
This mf was 19 years old when wrote this!
You can hear everything he is famous for on this song: the pinch harmonics, pentatonic licks, vibrato, and the gear he still uses today on his guitar tone.
He knew what he wanted to do on guitar at a very young age.
A guitar legend I am glad to have seen in my lifetime!
The look on his eyes when he played the main solo. It looks like that fire inside was reignited.
30 years later and still the sickest tone ever
The solo was absolutely flawless. And his picking technique is so crazy!!
Yes I noticed that too. Picking is crazy clean on that solo. Whole song really. Looks like his right hand is just flying around, but so precise
same picking technique like marty friedman.
I noticed one hiccup. 😄

No, where?
@karengarrison3666 don't get me wrong. I love Zach. He's a badass. On the first verse, he fumbles with the slide and came in late. The solo seemed flawless though.
I actually found a renewed love for a song that I had played to death. Zakk is a legend.
The pinch on the low string is mouth watering. Always loved this riff. And the solo……wow.
It is so rad that Zakk is not arrogant about his skill. So so awesome that he is so comfortable showing all of us how to do it.
He's not worried about it, because none of us mere mortals will ever be able to play it identical with as much conviction as he does. Lol
@@JoshSchmoyerMusic His fingers are insanely strong and idk how he hits the low E harmonic so perfectly every single time
DUDE .....ZAKK is such a BADASS
Ya ever watch a master carpenter give a clinic? If you just watched this you did! I’ve always loved this song. The message is very dark, but the song is incredible because of this man and his axe. It always brings tears to my eyes for some reason.
I may be in the minority here, but my favorite Zakk Wylde live performance was seeing him play with Pride & Glory way back in the day. I think it was at the Great American Music Hall here in San Francisco (probably in 1994) but my memory is a little hazy, might have been Slims!
Pride & Glory is the best Zakk project without a doubt!
Agreed..I wish P&G would come for one more tour
did they do Mississippi Queen?
I wish Zakk woulda kept the Pride and Glory thing going for a few more albums... they were bad to the bone
I hate your guts…
I love how he's documenting how to play his songs. Like all the solo Playthroughs he does. I Hope he does more full playthroughs like this. Awesome
4:15 🤘That Solo - Every F**kin Day! 🤘
Damn Zakk really plays incredibly hard!!! Like not just “figuratively” but like heavy man!!! Shit just bending that shit harder and heavier and his picking too, like damn not like he ain’t my top 3 faves of ALL TIME, but every time I listen to this guy I’m just more blown away by all that he does, and IS!!!! Big love bruh, from hillbilly heaven!!!
Beautifully melodic, intelligently composed, and HEAVY. Can't ask for more.
Zakk Wylde entered Guitar God status with this song. Still love this solo after 30 years later.
6:50 that subtle time signature change always gets me. Such a good song.
It is genius, he just reads the riff on the other side of the beat and it feels like the song is deflating as it is ending. So good.
After "Comfortably Numb", "No More Tears" is my fav riff!
And that was hard to say cause Black Sabbath is my fav band! 🖤
I’ve wanted to see him play it this way in this setting and mix levels since I first heard the song. What a blessing this is
AMEN & AMEN!!! I LOVE HOW HE CLICKS IN THE WAH AS HE'S FINISHING THE LAST NOTE OF THE SOLO! AMEN!
Love Zakk. While being one of the most recognizable shredders, he’s got to be the most humble guy out there. Always funny, always respectful and constantly gives props to other guitarists. While with Pride&Glory, he came out for a drink before the show and almost no one recognized him. I asked him for a pic and had a toast of a cold one with him. He just sat there like a guy from same neighborhood having beers with us. A hell of a guy
One of the very best riffs ever in rock/ metal.
This is why Zakk is my main influence as a guitar player. The smoothness of the transition between slide and fingers is *chefs kiss*
Nothing like watching a guitar legend play their songs on RUclips, absolutely epic song, please do mama I’m coming home

@@javiercardenas9987 i actually did watch that thanks!
Love that solo. It's just pentatonic riffing but with Zakk it feels like he's beating the listener to death with a sledgehammer. Amazing.
LMAO yup and thats his talent, and exactly what I love about his playing!!
That solo is so badass
My sentiments exactly. Badass.
DEFINITELY ONE OF THE GREATEST SOLOS EVER IN METAL .
One of the greatest songs too.
Zakk playing through No More Tears in HD?! What a time to be alive!
This is easily Zakks best song. The solo is pentatonic minor 101 hard rock goodness.
I love fields of unforgiveness
I like miracle man’s solo the best
Zakk is one of the greats. I'm 50 and I want to take guitar lessons from him.
The true masters make it look so easy.
Love Zakk's work on No rest and No more tears ... and he was so young, already writing masterpiece solos
I just really love how he still plays it so smoothly and not choppy, like someone would probably do after playing this song thousands of times through the years.
Really like this. No talking...just playing...and you get to see up close exactly how the actual guitarist plays it...not someone trying to cover it. Very nice and thanks!
Zakk has got some mitts on him, I bet his handshakes are brutal. What an all round beast.
This song has been on my Playlist for decades and if it comes on and I am almost home, I end up circling the block until the song is over. One of the very rare songs I cannot stop before it finishes
Same here. I literally just circled the block finishing the album version. But then sought out this video just to see the man himself play it again while sitting in the driveway.
Zakk has the epitome of perfect guitar tone for heavy music. Period!

EMG for the win.
@@miserychannel666 SPX90 used to be his sound
That arpeggiated sequence has evolved through Zakk’s so vigorously, that he makes it look like a toddler can play it, while sounding quite literally and objectively, as perfect as I think you can get
Just holy shit
Amazing tone, amazing solo, amazing guitar player!!!!!!!!
the mighty Viking has blessed the metal community with his power. Thank you ZAKK for your gift to the world.
god he’s so good. it’s crazy man. this might be an unpopular opinion but i think zakk is the best guitar player that i’ve heard in my life… that man absolutely shreds the damn guitar like it’s nothinnnn.
His precision, speed and signature sound is imo unlike anyone I’ve ever heard. I’d like to hear him try some polyphia songs though
He's definitely on the short list.
He is truly an amazing guitarist, in my top ten. Because he is a total original, he was able to validate his statement when he said Dimebag was the best all around guitarist on the planet. Zakk is absolutely a god with the axe. But no one can replicate Dime. His sound was so unique that when he past away that sound was lost forever. And no one will ever be able to replicate it. I’ve heard Zakk do his best play the solo on “Walk”, and it’s just not even close to Dimebag’s sound. You ask any of the worlds best musicians past, present, and future. And it’s pretty much unanimous.
That guitar solo is pure magic, his guitar playing is amazing. Zakk is a guitar master and guitar God
Zakk is such a unit.
I could watch him play all day. I wish I had an ounce of the talent he has.
He really had that, "Good thing I'm getting paid for this!" look on his face.
You know he has to be sick of playing this by now. All the years with Ozzy and the fact that he doesn't want to be remembered JUST for this song.
Two thumbs up for him giving the fans what we want!
The solo in this song is nothing short of perfection. I never disliked Ozzy but this album and this song specifically made me pay a lot more attention. Just an excellent riff and then.....that stunning solo.
His playing style always reminded me of him wrestling with a snake and squeezing every drop of life force out of it until nothing is left.
I wonder if he missed picking up the slide in time for that part during a live performance and had to improvise? He sometimes only gets there within milliseconds. King Zakk deserves a Royal Slide Holder.
Zakk Wylde, still kicking ass.
I'm 55 years old. I liked this song in my 20's, but completely fell in love with it 3 years ago. I started playing some metal in the OR at work and hearing the song again just shook me. The guitar was SICK! So heavy! Why didn't I feel that back then? I now still LOVE this song to death and watching Guitar Thor still shredding it is a thrill!!
Zakk’s solo in this song and Slash’s solo in the Sweet Child o’ mine are easily my top 2 faves. Not necessarily for difficulty, but for depth and appreciation. They always cause me to cease whatever I’m doing and concentrate my attention on those parts of the songs. 🙌
Both great but I can't have Painkiller's solo out of my top 2. I also put Cult of Personality up there with these 4.
Always special feeling playing this aetheric song.
Hard rock does not have to have 190bpm to rule the Earth.
The last widdly widdly part on the solo is just insane. Zakk looks like he's strumming.
Zakk Wylde has the strongest index finger in the world. Also a metal-god. It awesome to see the artists perform play throughs.
Slide guitar is easier to do once than people realize once you get the basics down.
The real talent is composing the great riff, that is where the true talent is.
Zakk is amazingly talented in composing these riffs. Kudos to Zakk!!
Single Dad here. Starting my day super early as usual....asking the world wtf?! Stumble across this just before dawn.
Enough battery for another day.
Sigh. Thanks for this.
Hang in there! I bet you've gone through a lot in 7 months since that comment, things come and go (both good and bad), wishing you all the best!
The way Zak never "Replaced" Randy Roads but instead held his place or filled in for him has been one of the most honorable thing in rock history. I'm a big fan because of his true respect.
from 5:00 to 5:10 you clearly hear some Randy Rhoads in his solo, so... he clearly did try to keep some Randy Rhoads in the sound somehow. Just like he didn't modify the "classic" solos live either.
Thank you! For posting this. Zakk for playing this. I will eventually watch this 100 times. Who else listens and watches Zakk, and your worries seem to disappear for those moments?
It's incredible how beautifully he works with every single note . bravo maestro
One of those great solos of all time. I love Zakk Wylde! One of my favorites guitar hero of last time!! I think that piano is from Zakk too. He's a genius!! Greating fom brazil!
Zakk is extremely good within keeping a tract of any kind fullest possible. No gaps during live performance, not easy to be so concentric towards full spectrum. He has so many tricks, licks, that his reaction time is extraordinary towards when to include.
Still one of the best albums I bought in 91 and still on my favourite all time list. That line up of Ozzy, Zakk, Bob, Mike and Randy RIP, was one of the best he had.
One of the best OZZY songs...
The look Zak gives after the solo - "That's right, that's how it's done."
Honestly, I don’t know if there’s a better example of a guitar solo telling a story. One of the best of all time.
Listen to the opening solo from in this river live in Paris. THAT SOLO is raw emotion and stages of grief... brings tears to my eyes still.
Total masterpiece solo with so much feeling, certainly not just ' a bunch of notes'
Did someone just say a bunch of notes? ~ Kirk Hammet
Definitely Zakks best work of songwriting imo. The guitar work on this song and the whole song in general are exceptional
Zakk is one of a kind.

I used to play this in a cover band - not this amazingly of course - and it was absolutely glorious to play. Godly guitar solo. Feels like you're about to explode out of your skin as it builds. So good.
i had always held zakk and his style in low regard because i was never a fan/listener of BLS, but seeing these few playthroughs has really made me realize how solid and iconic of a musician he is. and his tone has been insanely consistent throughout all these years too! fuckin sick
