You can hear everything he is famous for on this song: the pinch harmonics, pentatonic licks, vibrato, and the gear he still uses today on his guitar tone.
He knew what he wanted to do on guitar at a very young age.

He puts out videos of him playing super clean.. I think he just carried away with trying to keep everything fast like the younger shredders. Not that he doesn't have the speed.. I saw Zakk in Nashville in 1993. He was at the NAMM Summer Session and played a club the evening before he had to fly back home. He was playing with a band called the Nationals. Zakk and the harmonica player got into a battle; each playing what the other played. It was amazing! That next day my buddy and I were at the airport to go back home and Zakk came through the line. We sat in a bar with him for an hour or so. We bought him beers and he bought us beers. My buddy asked him what supermodel he married and he bust out laughing and showed us one of his wedding pictures. He was very nice. It was a great time.

Love Zakk. While being one of the most recognizable shredders, he’s got to be the most humble guy out there. Always funny, always respectful and constantly gives props to other guitarists. While with Pride&Glory, he came out for a drink before the show and almost no one recognized him. I asked him for a pic and had a toast of a cold one with him. He just sat there like a guy from same neighborhood having beers with us. A hell of a guy

He may have made mistakes then too. Can’t remember. I was working hard installing carpet in Naperville Illinois for Sears in the Fox Valley Mall, 1/2 million dollar occupied homes take up furniture thick heavy carpet in and out 6 days a week for 7 years. Figured I deserved to party just as hard so I did. Wisconsin included water skiing and knee boarding on lake Como with the Tommy Hollond band (Michelangelo on guitar). One night after the Rush Roll the bones concert. Tommy’s wife who was tending bar in Lake Geneva served Alex Lifeson.

He is truly an amazing guitarist, in my top ten. Because he is a total original, he was able to validate his statement when he said Dimebag was the best all around guitarist on the planet. Zakk is absolutely a god with the axe. But no one can replicate Dime. His sound was so unique that when he past away that sound was lost forever. And no one will ever be able to replicate it. I’ve heard Zakk do his best play the solo on “Walk”, and it’s just not even close to Dimebag’s sound. You ask any of the worlds best musicians past, present, and future. And it’s pretty much unanimous.
