Michael is a well known musician don’t get me wrong but he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. People have no idea how many hours you have to put in every day for many years to play this fast cleanly and on time. We’re talking 8 hours a day for 15 years and all the other time free time you have is studying music theory. When I was really practicing guitar and in bands I spent an average of 4 hours per day for a few years and I never got anywhere near his playing. Even though I practiced 4 hours per day it was amazing how long it still took to get better at any one thing. I put in hours each day for months trying to get my sweep picking skills up I did get much better but I couldn’t get the speed up fast enough it wasn’t until I learned a better technique from some random guy on RUclips who doesn’t even have many views and within a week I doubled my speed. I spent tons of hours going through youtube watching sweep picking videos and taking lessons from different teachers but non of them taught this and I think it’s because most people don’t even realize they do this. All it was is after you sweep one string you don’t take your finger off that string you just take some pressure off it’s just like rolling your finger on one fret to pick 3 different notes and that’s what the trick to playing fast and clean. The only reason I say this is the amount of time and dedication it takes. Rock on Michael
Shred sure is a form of art - play smart, not necessarily as hard. Self-awareness saves some time yet experience is always welcome. As you said, many of the pros can't necessarily convey their skills to the masses proficiently enough as they just "do their thing". Mike said someplace that he had his picking figured out in "couple of" years at the age of 15 or so (ball park). Undisputable though that it takes hard practice and "talent". What counts most of the phrases here is the economic (efficient) motion of your picking hand and awareness of the pick position. Left hand stuff is important as well but most people are limited by their picking hand as they can play decent legato. To conclude, yeah, this is definitely extreme level of brute force picking, and I do appreciate the sound of it over legato. Comes to preference. Mike sure is a living legend as you stated! Rock on, dude!
This is absolutely not true. I mean, yes you have to practice diligently, but with persistence you could probably learn how to shred fairly well over the summer. Really, MAB is mostly about picking speed and fairly easy sweeping technique - not that difficult to learn. Someone like Michael Romeo or Jason Becker style of playing, that's going to be a lot more effort and finesse. Music theory? What's that? No, you don't need to know jack shit about music theory. Just pick up and play and after a while you should be able to figure most stuff out by ear.
This is what you call hours and hours of practicing scales. Playing this fast takes much dedication and practice everyday. He is not my favorite guitarist. But I am not here to debate that. I am just here to enjoy a shred master do his thing

What Happen to the Comment section now?! I revisit this video just to find how toxic everyone has become!?!? MAB is a great player, with Pro-level mastery over all techniques on guitar, speed is not his only attribute, for his sense of rhythm, melody and also harmony arrangement is top notch too, (I held a Bachelor degree in Songwriting/Composing and Music Production so I know what I'm saying). Besides it is a Heavy Metal genre, You can't expect SVR's Laney type melody here.
@Khalez cap, i'm heavily into math rock and midwest japanese shit, the people here either don't play guitar or are jealous as hell because MAB is legendary. trying to shit on this dude is just clown behaviour
Yeah I noticed the toxic comments too, I don't understand it. I came back here after seeing him on Rob scallions channel and he's such a lovely guy with it
I bet all the haters played or Tried playing some of his stuff to say negative comments about him, MAB is so complex and very hard to at least play some of his licks. one of the greatest, the very best at what he does, and Yes he does offer the keys to the Lambo....
Having seen this clip many times over the decades and just now realizing that is a 29 fret guitar. I guess I was too mesmerized by the insane speed. Its hard to see the details when the lambo is going by at 280bpm.
Everyone loves a guitar that has two octaves on the fretboard that you have to intonate for. What an asswhip that would be to tune, intonate at 12, and intonate at 24. I’m guessing that he doesn’t even give half a shit about intonation between 24 and 29 because no one would ever be able to tell it’s not since he does 34 notes per string every half second.
I honestly don't care for this style of guitar playing but this man is a really good guitarist and seems like a hell of a nice guy. He still makes videos and teaches people techniques. I wanted to learn to pick faster and watched some of his more recent videos and they helped a lot.
Exactly how it is for me. This is like “Classical metal” but his demeanor and how he’s willing to teach people to how to play this without wanting money for it is way cool
@Peter Quill pro guitarists work work work work work work and play play play :) their are nice, humble, they are not all the time every day in guitar groups they don't say critics about the world famous guitarists for 50 years but they are exceptions , some boring no talent french people which will never have a big success except as teachers but their soul is not beautiful because they don't like themselves
I got to meet him at a guitar clinic back in the early 90's and yeah-super funny and kind guy wuith zero ego. He loves to teach and encourage people, too. He spent more time asking people to come up and play and helping them with their technique than he did showing off his stuff. Just a really good dude.

that is solely becuz they dont have the Speed and the Precision like Shredders do,so they talk shit about Shredders.....
I was just thinking about this the other day its so true
Jealousy's a bitch.
One cannot be critical of Batio, simply envious.
"I paid for the whole fretboard so im damn well gonna use it!"
LOL best comment ever, so true
Yeah I noticed the toxic comments too, I don't understand it. I came back here after seeing him on Rob scallions channel and he's such a lovely guy with it
I bet all the haters played or Tried playing some of his stuff to say negative comments about him, MAB is so complex and very hard to at least play some of his licks. one of the greatest, the very best at what he does, and Yes he does offer the keys to the Lambo....
Damn RUclips video that's 16 years old. Pretty soon it'll be old enough to drive
It is 😭
It may have been uploaded to YT 16 years ago, but the original video came out in 1991... it's about to go through a midlife crisis...
Still waiting for those lambo keys Michael...
arent we all lol
I watched this vid in like early 07 for the first time. And I just noticed today that guitar has 29 god dam frets
just made me spit my coffee bro
@@TheSaintberzerker Just finished mine before reading your comment so im lucky there xD
I'm still waiting on the keys to the Lamborghini.
After 14 years, I am still driving a Ford Fiesta
My dad use to drive one. Awesome cars👍
@@cjfourie1560 Yes mine is one 2014 titanium. I really love it, but cmon, it is not a Lamb xD
Thiago Rangel lmao fiesta for life 😂
I'm still waiting on the keys too man.
Frida sophia same lmfao
Great example of someone who’s mastered their instrument. Awesome playing!
Pro guitarist : hours of dedicated practice for years
Guy who can't sit and practice with a metronome : It has no feel
Yeah being MAB is every pro guitarist's dream. 😂😂
Lots of pro guitarists who are great agree with the latter sentiment
@Peter Quill pro guitarists work work work work work work and play play play :) their are nice, humble, they are not all the time every day in guitar groups
they don't say critics about the world famous guitarists for 50 years
but they are exceptions , some boring no talent french people
which will never have a big success except as teachers
but their soul is not beautiful because they don't like themselves
I saw this video back in 2008, and I thought man this is impossible.
Now after ten years.......yeah I still feel the same.
2:56
when you try to move a very hot food from the microwave without gloves
I have actually met Michael Angelo Batio after a Guitar Center demonstration.
I got his autograph and talked to him for a couple of minutes.
Is he really this good in real life?
@@georgeperez1839 Oh yeah!!!!
Most definitely 👍
The most talented guitarist ever. Plus, he’s a great person.
I got to meet him at a guitar clinic back in the early 90's and yeah-super funny and kind guy wuith zero ego. He loves to teach and encourage people, too. He spent more time asking people to come up and play and helping them with their technique than he did showing off his stuff. Just a really good dude.
Most metal guitarist are very chill especially syn for me
Practice makes Lamborghini
hhahaahahaha
My fav comment ever
Batio gave all of us the keys to the Lamborghini, but most of us don't know how to drive the fckn thing..lol
I come back to this every now and then just to marvel at the technique. Great stereo tone as well. 23M views and counting. MAB is no joke.
This NEVER gets old
He's a fine guitarist. Haters gonna hate.
Yes he is incredibly fast and a technical player. He lacks emotion however which is much more important to enjoy music.
@@lethayle3388 Maybe for you. I'm more impressed by individual style and discipline.
Good guitarist, fucking weird ass persona though.
@@BlGGESTBROTHER They did a lot of cocaine in the late 80's/early 90's
Sure they're here !!
Great lesson easy to follow.
lmao!
What lesson? Where?
Why is this blowing up rn? I remember watching this 17 years ago.
Rob Scallon made a video referencing this one, collaborating with Micheal Angelo Batio himself
He just published a song called Keys to the Lamborghini
That was very helpful. Like 1,2,3, now I know how to speed pick and scale that guitar like never before.
the dude wants everyone to stop playing guitar
+Radiant Dawn nah I don't think that he wants anyone to stop playing the guitar. He feels cool being able to play guitar like this and showing us, of course he does. But I don't think that he is THAT ego driven in general like it may seem or like you say.
+Radiant Dawn You can also try to find and buy the whole lesson, not just a demonstration :)
Sebastian Xxx twas a jest
Wulbulbul Lubbubwublub oh ooops sorry then :D Regarding so many crappy comments I thought he was serious.
I listened to the whole thing. I'm still sitting in the bus, where's my lambo ?
the keys are all you get XD
I play guitar for 10 years now, and after had seen this video I think I'll play triangle instrument now
Gbay iv been playing 1 year and a half and im like a 6 years playing guitarrist and i think in 10 years... you will see me on TV!!!
its been 15 years since i first saw this. It still blows my mind. and, I still suck at guitar
As Michael says... practice, practice, practice.
This isn't a guitar, it's a fucking weapon
Lmao...
Him: im going to give u the key to lambo
My guitar : please no
Please yes
"Now, please try it yourself"...... End of lesson 1.
20 years since I saw this video on p2p and still no keys to the Lambo . 😭😭
