Exactly how it is for me. This is like “Classical metal” but his demeanor and how he’s willing to teach people to how to play this without wanting money for it is way cool
Michael is a well known musician don’t get me wrong but he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. People have no idea how many hours you have to put in every day for many years to play this fast cleanly and on time. We’re talking 8 hours a day for 15 years and all the other time free time you have is studying music theory. When I was really practicing guitar and in bands I spent an average of 4 hours per day for a few years and I never got anywhere near his playing. Even though I practiced 4 hours per day it was amazing how long it still took to get better at any one thing. I put in hours each day for months trying to get my sweep picking skills up I did get much better but I couldn’t get the speed up fast enough it wasn’t until I learned a better technique from some random guy on RUclips who doesn’t even have many views and within a week I doubled my speed. I spent tons of hours going through youtube watching sweep picking videos and taking lessons from different teachers but non of them taught this and I think it’s because most people don’t even realize they do this. All it was is after you sweep one string you don’t take your finger off that string you just take some pressure off it’s just like rolling your finger on one fret to pick 3 different notes and that’s what the trick to playing fast and clean. The only reason I say this is the amount of time and dedication it takes. Rock on Michael
Shred sure is a form of art - play smart, not necessarily as hard. Self-awareness saves some time yet experience is always welcome. As you said, many of the pros can't necessarily convey their skills to the masses proficiently enough as they just "do their thing". Mike said someplace that he had his picking figured out in "couple of" years at the age of 15 or so (ball park). Undisputable though that it takes hard practice and "talent". What counts most of the phrases here is the economic (efficient) motion of your picking hand and awareness of the pick position. Left hand stuff is important as well but most people are limited by their picking hand as they can play decent legato. To conclude, yeah, this is definitely extreme level of brute force picking, and I do appreciate the sound of it over legato. Comes to preference. Mike sure is a living legend as you stated! Rock on, dude!
This is absolutely not true. I mean, yes you have to practice diligently, but with persistence you could probably learn how to shred fairly well over the summer. Really, MAB is mostly about picking speed and fairly easy sweeping technique - not that difficult to learn. Someone like Michael Romeo or Jason Becker style of playing, that's going to be a lot more effort and finesse. Music theory? What's that? No, you don't need to know jack shit about music theory. Just pick up and play and after a while you should be able to figure most stuff out by ear.
In terms of pushing the electric guitar to its technical limits it's him and maybe a handful of others on earth imo. He leans into the cheese and is still incredibly passionate about teaching people how to play, and I can respect that.
I remember watching this as a entry level guitarist at 13 years old and i immediately said "i dont think i want to play guitar anymore." I bet all the haters played or Tried playing some of his stuff to say negative comments about him, MAB is so complex and very hard to at least play some of his licks. one of the greatest, the very best at what he does, and Yes he does offer the keys to the Lambo....
To all the people that say that he doesn't play with any feeling or there is no point in being this fast, you are probably not musically trained. If you are used to listening to fast music you are actually able to distinguish the notes that he is playing even in his fast mode. Not only he is incredibly fast but also there is subtlety and sophistication in the melody and the notes he plays. The passages themselves are extremely diverse and span different styles. Most people cannot distinguish between notes at that speed so they just deem it without feel. I mean it is okay to not understand this style or like it but when you put your subjective opinion as an objective fact and criticize nonsensically, you are just making a fool of yourself
@@jerbear97 I like the fact that the only thing you payed attention to was the choice of my words and not the actual meaning of what I said. It is exactly like listening to this music and only noting on the fact that it was fast without paying attention to the melody

He mastered what every speed obsessed guitarist in history has attempted: economy of motion. His muscle memory via repetition has likely never been equaled in the guitar discipline.
You really need to go check some technical death metal guitarists. Christian Muenzner for example. MAB is obviously a master of fast and clean playing with great economy of motion, but this is far less impressive nowadays than it was before. He's sadly always lacked the skill of creating great melodic lines.
I nearly hate everything about this video, especially the tone and the guitar. Everything except the fucking insane skills, the shredding and MAB himself.

I bet all the haters played or Tried playing some of his stuff to say negative comments about him, MAB is so complex and very hard to at least play some of his licks. one of the greatest, the very best at what he does, and Yes he does offer the keys to the Lambo....
I mean it is okay to not understand this style or like it but when you put your subjective opinion as an objective fact and criticize nonsensically, you are just making a fool of yourself
i also like to use big words
@@jerbear97 I like the fact that the only thing you payed attention to was the choice of my words and not the actual meaning of what I said. It is exactly like listening to this music and only noting on the fact that it was fast without paying attention to the melody
@@amirpers so much words. i'm impressed
@@jerbear97 so *many words. And I didn't even use that many words so yeah, I'm actually pretty disappointed in humanity
It's like listening to a midi.
It's been 16 years and I still haven't received my keys to the Lamborghini.
Same here. I think we've been doing it wrong.
We're not worthyyyyyyyy ha
I got keys but it was to a fisherprice car... lol I guess I am stuck playing tears in heaven and hotel California at the local guitar center.... lol followed by entersandman... intro only.
I'm still waiting for these fucking keys Michael
He gave you the keys...you're the one who has to drive!

One of the underrated technical masters of our time.
He practiced so much he forgot to eat.
His a known coke head.
@@skinnykid8524 Seems more like amphetamines to me...moving that damn fast 🤣
At least he has a T-shirt on to remind himself what he would look like, if he had spent all those hours in the gym instead of his guitar.
@@ruck-a-tron They deleted my comment and All I said was coke head.
*Yngwie Malmsteen:*
- "God sent me to earth to teach humans how to play the guitar"
*Michael Angelo Batio:*
- "I don't remember sending anyone..."
@@Dan0dandan1 I don't know if he said it or not, but everybody knows he has an ego the size of Jupiter. I suppose he kinda can, since he's that good at what he does. Still, Batio blows him and pretty much anyone else away in terms of sheer technical prowess in metal guitar.
100%,correct
@@Dan0dandan1 he is way better than Malmsteen

He mastered what every speed obsessed guitarist in history has attempted: economy of motion. His muscle memory via repetition has likely never been equaled in the guitar discipline.
You really need to go check some technical death metal guitarists. Christian Muenzner for example. MAB is obviously a master of fast and clean playing with great economy of motion, but this is far less impressive nowadays than it was before. He's sadly always lacked the skill of creating great melodic lines.
I absolutely love the tone on this video
I nearly hate everything about this video, especially the tone and the guitar.
Everything except the fucking insane skills, the shredding and MAB himself.
I cant even play wrong notes that fast
Fr
LMAO😂😂😂😂😂
Practice makes Lamborghini

Everyone says he's too technical. Orchestra's are technical, so what.
Appreciate the skill.
Him: im going to give u the key to lambo
My guitar : please no
Please yes
I click on this video everytime it comes up just to hear the Lamborghini line.
Ive been waiting 25 years for my keys.
This guy is constantly shunned from "top 100" guitarist lists, simply because he didn't make popular music. Maybe he had bad luck in finding a popular band, or maybe he was difficult to work with ... whatever. This guys guitar skills are god tier.
he appear later when hair metal bands went off fashion. And he doesn't have that good of a taste either to tell the truth.
If you are going by rollingstone magazines top 100 lists that's why he ain't on there, rolling Stone is garbage, they had evanescence on the top 100 metal albums list for fuck sakes lol
He looks like Ben Stiller
Michael Scott after work
Back then, but now he looks like Jerry Stiller.
Dude I was getting mad wondering who he was looking at 80's. You're right!
Looks like my lesbian auntie
Ben stiller in the pick of destiny though
This is my favourite video and I've been telling people about it for 15 years. Hence the 23 million views. LoL
nice work! you have so many aquaintance
this man is phenomenal !!! i visually gasped and my jaws were on the floor during the last shred , oh god such inhuman and exquisite skills.
one can dream of having a fraction of michaels skill.
beautifully played !!!!!bravo
I listened to the whole thing. I'm still sitting in the bus, where's my lambo ?
the keys are all you get XD
He looks like Steve Carrell disguised as Ben Stiller disguised as Michel Angelo
And Alice Cooper.
JHallDaBoss and Alice cooper for sure
the algorithm wants us all to see this shred lol
They want to give you the keys to the Lamborghini
How many people who bought these lessons, actually had a guitar with enough frets to play the lessons in this video??? aka nobody.
MAB is a genius and a GOAT shredder!!
Along with Paul Gilbert, Yngwe, and Satrioni
He's a fine guitarist. Haters gonna hate.
Yes he is incredibly fast and a technical player. He lacks emotion however which is much more important to enjoy music.
@@lethayle3388 Maybe for you. I'm more impressed by individual style and discipline.
Good guitarist, fucking weird ass persona though.
@@BlGGESTBROTHER They did a lot of cocaine in the late 80's/early 90's
Sure they're here !!
I can play 1:07 to 1:09 as good as he can
whats the second cord?
😂
Becouse of you how many guys came back and checked that time period?
LAMO
Same lol
It's been more than a decade since I saw this video and until now i dont even have the keys to a freaking Toyota
I come back to this every now and then just to marvel at the technique. Great stereo tone as well. 23M views and counting. MAB is no joke.
"I paid for the whole fretboard so im damn well gonna use it!"
He owes 20 million people keys to a Lamborghini...
Ten years later, I still don't have the keys to the Lamborghini
I have actually met Michael Angelo Batio after a Guitar Center demonstration.
I got his autograph and talked to him for a couple of minutes.
Is he really this good in real life?
@@georgeperez1839 Oh yeah!!!!
Most definitely 👍
Does anybody know where this guy lives? Back in 98, he stole the keys to my Lamborghini
I remember watching this on RUclips as a teenager just starting out on guitar. Good times
Me too...
The bit where he goes "bllublawidililywidllywiddlyblublluwidllywiddlywiddlywahwahwah waaaahhh" i felt that in my soul.
3:46
3:15 , that part from “no boundaries” is absolutely genius, sounds so classical and well arranged .
