From Gigabyte: "Our engineers believe it should be an issue with the 6-pin PCIe power connector on the card. It could be some problem with the NCU."
oh noi hate when my cables are not working and i have to change the whole power supply cause ther are no parts
that sounds Very much not repairable :S
like bent or broken pins? or it arced between the pins and fried the connector.
Are they gonna replace it?.
What is NCU?
Hopefully some vendors see this and step up with some parts for this series.
I think he had one in a previous video from another "series" but yeah Im sure some will. I wouldnt count on a GPU though, given they are worth their weight in gold.
@@bofasofa9399 that's almost double MSRP. Worth it's weight in gold is always hyperbole. But it's not about being rich or poor. It's about whether the situation is important enough to be willing to buy something for more than it's really worth because people are playing with the market. I've run a computer repair shop and I feel you nailed it on this one. Hopefully he has the warranty on this GPU and can get a replacement. Oh yeah, NEVER cheap out on your PSU. Its funny how hard that can be for some people to realize.
"I thought I just needed the right amount of wattage?" - something people I'm helping have said to me multiple times
There's a reason why PSU tier lists exist
Warranty gone now disassembled?
It's has dumb as saying someone is trying to cheap out his battery replacement with a knockoff chinesse battery for his expensive iphone, camera, emergency-battery pack & so on.
It's the heart of the device. Cheap on it and there's a bad chance something wrong will happen. For battery, let's just say it will go up in flame.
And for PSU it could go up either in flame or kill itself and take some pc part with it.
I got myself a SeaSonic ~$150 CA w750 Platium. There has been quit a few storm that has cut off power for just >1sec and my pc stayed powered. Can't say the same thing for everything else around me, including my 2 monitor lol
@@SrgtWookieD wrong, on this specific gigabyte model, it doesn’t void the warranty when you take it apart
@@SirReptitious Its not about high wattage PSU but quality of that unit. Why do I need 800W psu if my system is drawing from the wall 300 watts at maximum load? Are you utilise CPU and GPU at 100% most of Your time? No.
I'm using Seasonic platinum certified Power supply - 650W for over 6 years. That PSU was in 3 different systems and one of them was pulling 550 watts from the socket every day for 4 to 6 hours. This seasonic is still with me in my current setup.
Corsair, evga, thermaltake they all let me down and I was never buying anything below 80+ gold cert.
It's not about wattage, but quality...
Pardon the interruption this weekend - I'll be deep-cleaning a smoker's PC 😷
It will smell extremely smoky
Everywhere in the pc NICOTINE
you seem worried but hey stinker here is goign to comfort you
I just did this last weekend with my dad's PC... He also has 2 long haired cats 😬😬😬😬
Did the card not have any warranty? Why did you choose to take the card apart and not just send it back to the owner so he could get it checked out from where he bought it ?
yuck i have done that also the sag on that card is preatty bad
I really like the concept of this series, even more than the cleaning. This is useful now to increase longevity when no one can get cards, but it will continue to be useful as troubleshooting on potentially very specific issues. Please keep these going!
Glad you enjoy it! Will do!
@@GregSalazar I second Zack's Comment Greg,
this is so much better than the Theoretical Problem Solving Videos or Talking Head giving tips to answer questions like lots of other channels do,
I really enjoyed when you used to do the Science of PCs, But the Direction you are taking with the channel to be more 'How to look after & keep your PC running" is Awesome as it is not something many channels do & can really help people build their confidence in their PC Skills 🥰
Same here Greg this helps us more than reviews that people put out on cards and hardware we can't even get.
Greg really has it going with his video series ideas based on what's going on right now. It shouldn't anger anyone and it helps people attempt to get fully working systems again during the shortage, love it.

I enjoy this series a lot. You take us on a mission, a detective work to find out whats wrong with the PC, and all of us learn something from it. It is understandable that you cant always upgrade/swap components for something new, and thats life and it makes for a better engagement knowing not every video will have a happy ending.
This is a really great series. The video came up in my feed randomly, and I decided to give it a watch. I ended up binging the whole playlist. Awesome work.
Greg,
Loving the shows
Keep up those creative outake
Greg I have to say in a world where content creators are really struggling to create content that doesn’t get un justifiable hate, you’ve found found a way. Love the new series as well as the PC cleaning ones. Keep it up 👏😀
I really dig this series, nice work on it Greg. Even if you don't find the actual issue like in this one, you always give me new ideas to try out if I ever run into issues with things. Like swapping the card to another pcie slot and try it there, I don't think I ever thought of that before. Thank you!
Love this series and hope to see more! Sucks that you couldn't get the build running again, but I'm so grateful that you shared it, even though it was a "flop." This kind of troubleshooting video is super helpful to see the process of how to figure out what is wrong in a build!
Yesss i love that u made this a series too!!!! Love your videos!
@01:29 Greg’s wife just casually waving at everyone lol
I’m learning a lot by watch your channel. Just the diagnostic process and the train of thought you have as you figure out problems. This type of knowledge is invaluable. Thank you so much!
Thanks for doing this series as well. Nothing like troubleshooting to see how things look when they are wrong. And how to fix them.
I actually really like that you uploaded this video! Sometimes there is no fix at our level and we have to go next level (RMA/manufacturer) to resolve (if possible). I know it would've been super easy to not upload this video and move on to the next fix that has success, so I wanted you to know Greg that this failure to fix was appreciated. You did a good job of troubleshooting and isolating to prove what is good still and where the failure must reside (the gpu) and that is still good information gained from thje process for the user to proceed! Well done, sir.
Hey man. I really appreciate it. And thanks for watching!
8:06 a 5700 xt, if defective at the time of this writing should probably not need soldering work as all of them are under warranty and should be replaced for free.
@@CyFr no, it was a 5700xt
@Casey companies (atleast in the us) can't legally enforce that rule, you as a consumer have a right to do what you want with your product, and unless any damages were cased by the end user while opening the card, they cannot void your warranty just because you attempted to figure out the problem with your card
Good point
@Casey Not always. I've RMA'd a card (MSI GTX 760) before and even told them I broke the "warranty" sticker. They said as long as the card isn't clearly physically damaged then they would repair or replace it (which they did).
@@Antwon22 Not true. All companies can (and do) refuse warranty if you opened - or even you try - up the product.
Such a great video man, explaining your thought process along the way, and being humble enough to search up the issue online and show your viewers. Thank you

When you mentioned a bad flash scenario, it made me curious if the OS would have recognized the bad GPU if it was installed in the secondary PCIe slot while the system booted from a good card in the primary PCIe. I wouldn't bet on it given the flashing LED, but it would have been an interesting data point.
good idea on this one. could have reflashed it if was indeed detected.

So far in the 3 builds I have had, Seasonic has been a great power supply brand
Isn't seasonic like the top brand on psus? Even other psu companies are taking seasonic's power supplies and rebrand them.
@@depressedfrog2 hmmm i didnt know that! How i ended up using Seasonic was because Linus had done a build years ago and had mentioned how he liked using them on his personal rigs because of how well they held up. Never looked back lol
Seasonic was always top tier manufacturer. Plenty of overclockers using them. I had corsair, evga, thermaltake psu and all of them let me down ( died before warranty expired, the other 2 cost me over $500 in PC parts, killing my ram and 2 motherboards)
My current seasonic unit is in my 3rd system, serving me over 6 years with no issues at all.

I just discovered you man. I love your deep cleaning videos, it's addicting. And your PC recommendations are very helpful to me.
i wonder if the psu that person was using was one of the gigabyte psus that are being bundled due to low sales volume cause of being known for blowing up
Oof is that the one that GN had tested and had it blow up?
That would be ironic if it's the CASE. Get it? I'll see myself out.
Nah. When he opens the back up at 3:00 you can see its a corsair RM750. Which shouldn't be a problem, but who knows.
Edit: ok I just watched a little bit more. It def could've been a bundled psu. Which would suck, cause instead of "getting a deal" with a gpu and psu, he essentially got burned and lost a few hundred dollars.

Pretty sure a company can't void your warranty for opening a graphics card. I'm aware that there are different laws on psus and hdds but graphics cards can be opened as long as you don't destroy it in the process.
@@whitewolfsv3647 no you can't
@@jessy-jamesriverin-quessy5987 I opened my 1080ti to repaste, broke the little warranty void sticker in the process and when it finally died it was just within it's warranty. Not how it works here.
@@whitewolfsv3647 yeah those little stickers are only to deter you but are not actually legally enforceable, at least in the US they have to prove YOU caused the damage. Example would be, you used the wrong screw and "long screwed" the pcb or a component and that broke it, that would be easily visible and deny your warranty. Just opening an object up, and performing "preventative" and/or just basic maintenance will not and can not Void your warranty.

Imagine customers faces when they realize there 1k graphics card doesn't have it's warranty anymore 😳
Most companies will still give warranty especially when taken apart by a youtuber who is 1) very safe. 2) knowledgable.
Why would that be? Those "warranty void when removed" stickers are not legally enforceable in the US. Go read up on it.
