    Hey, Greg.
    With Gigabyte boards, I've noticed that when you reset the cmos, you have to keep power going to the board (don't switch off the psu) otherwise it won't clear.

      Are you sure? I cleared my cmos earlier this week while i was trouble shooting my rig. My psu died so there was no way for me to get power and my bios confirmed that all my settings reset. I'm using a z490 gaming x for reference.

      @@aarontmg9758 it wouldn't be power, power comes from the 1st section of the pcie slot, it's for bandwidth, less lanes = less bandwidth, lower end gpus don't need can't handle such high bandwidth so don't need additional lanes hence they are not wired. Fun fact pcie slots can provide 75watts of power which is why low end gpus don't need supplemental power, also why I love pcie is forward and backward compatibility, where you can use a 16x device in a 1x slot (won't have all the bandwidth though) and vice versa, not to mention the compatibility between generations. It is the best interface

    G'day Greg,
    For those who do complain about no upgrade it is not justified because you went Z390, which from the B365M is an upgrade.
    My niece & I had a good entry for FoF last week, I got a AeroCool XPredator Cube (Iron-Man Theme) for my Bedroom HTPC & my niece asked if she could do the case swap, she left the Pentium G4400/GA-H110M-S2H/Cooler/2x 4GB DDR4-2400 as 1 unit but when we turned the PC on after the swap just Boot Loops. My niece thought she had killed it 😢, we added a BIOS Speaker & got Memory Beep so took out the Left Channel DIMM, still Boot Loops & Mem Beeps, put the DIMM from left Channel in Right Channel & got a Post, added the Right Channel DIMM to the Left Channel & working fine too. So for some reason it just decided it didn't like the DIMMS in the slots they were in 🤷‍♀🤷‍♂???
    So proud of my niece as she has been a big help with projects like this where my disability makes things like working with tiny screws very frustrating.

  • @Trylen

    Ok Greg,, few things crossed my mind while watching this.
    1) You might want to get a PC speaker. In the case that a motherboard doesn't have a LED display for post codes, the pc speaker will give you the beep codes to diagnose that issue.
    2) XFX used to make NVidia cards, like a Geforce MX440, but it was a LONG time ago. Your card is most likely a HD5450 or HD6450.
    3) As the 300 series started with 8th Gen a bios update may have been required. There are even some boards that accept a 9900 non-K but need an update for the KS.

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  2 года назад +1

      1) I have plenty of PC speakers Lol. They often don't work in these scenarios. No beeps.
      2) Was referring to relevant XFX cards, not ancient relics ;-)
      3) Tried 8th gen CPU and still no POST, so I doubt it was a BIOS update that was required. Couldn't POST to update it either way. Would need to swap chips outright.

    • @Trylen
      @Trylen 2 года назад

      Odd on the post beep not working at times, I tend to use it more then the led codes.
      As to the trying the 8th gen, downside of condensing the video, can't see what was cut. Ah well, you still do good work.

    I wouldn't worry so much about viewers who think you should be giving away prizes (upgrades) left and right. The reality is that you fixed a viewer's problem at no cost. Actually with an upgrade of sorts. So, with what you have saved the viewer, he/she can take the money they saved and purchase an upgrade...like a cooler.

  • @rhobson
    @rhobson 11 месяцев назад

    Always good to have a trusty ol speaker to troubleshoot pc issues, specially since only the top end motherboards have leds or segmented displays to inform issues that prevent POST.
    That being said, things done wrong (or at least wasn't shown in the video) from my years of experience fixing pc's:
    1) haven't tested the PSU - I've seen freaky issues caused by misbehaving PSUs...
    2) haven't tested the MoBo outside the case - bad case groundings can also cause really strange behaviors
    3) haven't tested the components (cpu/ram/GPU) before ordering a new MoBo - granted IF you don't have a compatible spare...
    bonus entry: enabled XMP right away, without checking for system stability?

    • @GregSalazar
      @GregSalazar  11 месяцев назад +1

      Speakers haven't worked in 95+% of these Fix or Flop videos. We tested every component you listed in your comment before ordering a replacement. Not sure what you're on about. If the system isn't stable running XMP, it's a very quick toggle. My viewers, for the most part, are familiar with PC basics.

If it won't post the first thing i do is reset CMOS, but after that would disconnect all unnecessary things and strip the system down to bare minimum as Greg did. Glad to see the start of season 3 and this was a good computer to start with. You had to go thru almost all the components to find out what wrong with it. There is one thing that I have been wondering about. That is bent cpu pins/cpu socket pins, why are there so many people with bent pins? I have been making my own computer and later my kids computers for over 20 years. I have made or upgraded 30+ computers and I have never had a bent pin. People just sloppy putting them in? People drop them? you would think that if you are putting in a CPU you would know to be very careful and watch what you are doing.

    I think 1 big problem that people often overlook is Proper Grounding and a Stabilizer:
    - If the ground is not well done it'll transmit that static electricity to all conductive components and sub-components until the weakest of them, gives in and kills the entire PC.
    - Stabilizer is also a must for PCs and any electrical component really, the US has lots of Electric storm, Tornadoes and Hurricanes and strong winds, that cause massive high voltage shorts that then transmit that to local transformers, that maybe won't be able to destroy themselves to absorb the massive overcharge, and pass that, from fractions of a second to maybe a couple, destroying non-protected PSUs first, and then the electronic components.
    -So houses should have also a High Power Filter, to avoid overcharges to pass, and stabilize the Voltage and Amperage; as a first line of defence 1 before the Electrical Meter and 1 after.
    This way every electrical device in the house will probably never suffer a burn out

    Hey, the user got a better m/b out of the deal. That IS a nice upgrade 👌. I was thinking the bent pin was the culprit.

    Love the video's, on a side note, I have two Ryzen 2700x chips . Both have lost the second memory channel . It through me for a while, ie. 32Gb installed only 16 Gb usable. Now both systems work with ram in A1, B1. One cpu rma and changed. Worked for 3 weeks, second channel down again. Given up, used as is. Cheers Mike(UK)

    That bent pin is most likely a crucial pin that was needed for the CPU to work. Just because you bent it back doesn't mean the damage was undone. Great job, and I totally woudn't be giving people upgrades all the time. You said you'll fix it, not pimp it out lol

    It really is wild how many people bend socket pins. Like are people just not careful? It just boggles my mind after doing it hundreds of times without any issue.

      @@tyler6602 Yeah but he always tells people to build a pc over buying an overpriced prebuilt. Hell his whole channel is centered around trying to help people save money. It’s kind of ironic that he would get sponsored by a company that is trying to promote their prebuilds.

    As the old board didn't do RAM training when you were swapping RAM, it's probably the circuitry between the RAM & the CPU that was bad.

    Like fix or flog.. would really like it if you did some kind of video series where you take view prebuilts and upgraded them to new cases.. just to show how a new case, better fans and/or cooling can really give new life to a prebuilt.

    Greg you fixed and upgraded this rig with the motherboard replacement because you offered him a Z390 instead of his faulty microATX board.
    That’s enough for me don’t listen to the comments telling you that you must upgrade also this or that component.
    PC works fine as it is right now this is what matters most 💪🏻

    You forgot to test the replacement motherboard before you fitted it, like you did in the other video, if it didn't work you wouldnt know if it was something bricking it in the build.
