Anybody that has built PC's knows exactly how you felt on this one, good job holding back the rage LOL. Off camera must have gotten exciting. Very nice build!
yeah but drives not seen from bios has never happened to me... probably because i never used software raid
I’ve ran into other issue but this never with software bios
Happened to me when I got a new case and AIO cooler, rebuild mine a couple of times thinking I got something wrong. after 3 times of rebuilding, it finally checked the drives and I was able to boot in
Small tip 4 greg bro- always have nvme driver on hand :) WATCHING THIS I have the exact same board :) same issue took me 9 hours to figure out
@@GuidoDePalma it has happened to me a couple of times on drives that were new and weren't initialized, never happened to drives that were initialized
He had NVME Raid turned on in the bios. Which is why you needed to install the drivers. You could have turned it off or reset the bios to factory. It’s a puzzler for sure! 😅 great video
Does that not get reset on Clear CMOS...? If not, good catch.
@@jaghine it should be. However, nowadays you cant trust brands to do sht right.
@@SiliconPower74 GNexus said there where BIOS versions that didn't wipe Voltage settings maybe this bug is bigger than assumed.
exactly man, I've ran into this issue so much. I was yelling at my screen wishing I could help him out lol.
Ohhhh! 🙀
as a computer tech, I've ran into this problem a few times. In my experience, a good place to check would be in the SATA operation in the BIOS. Make sure that RAID is disabled and AHCI is selected if RAID isn't supported. I've gotten that blue screen with INACCESSABLE DEVICE so many times lol, this has saved my life many times. It's not always the case, but just something good to check on the list.
I just have a feeling that some people have the worst luck when it comes to PC and technology. Thank God there are people like Greg who take pleasure in fixing these issues.
Its more of a lack of PC knowledge and common sense. The owner spent all the money to make it look good but didn't add fans to provide air flow to cool components. Also the choice to go with an AIO if you are not savvy enough to identify a pump failure is a bad choice imo. Also wedging the block against the RAM is clearly not smart. Their is no such thing as luck, things happen for reasons.
@@MrNota500 Agree, however a lot of brands overlook some parts of the desing that could end up with issues like...
Asus making those big VRM heatsink that are too close to the socket.
NZXT with his nonsense USB.
Microsoft for not including the IRST drivers that almost every intel computer needs.
These issues are no challenge for a advance user but for lacking user, could be a wall that cant overcome
Greg you're a legend. Troubleshooting takes real patience, the fix is a huge reward and a pleasure for us to watch. Cheers
Might be best practice when working on a system repair to: first select "load default bios settings" (or simply clear the CMOS settings), re-boot, then double-check that the CSM setting is set to "off", and set to AHCI mode (instead of Raid mode). Raid mode setting should never default to "on".
There is a set of DOS commands that may be useful:
1. Boot from the Windows installer USB thumb drive
2. Navigate to CMD prompt
3. Type "disk part"
4. Type "select disk X" where X=disk number
5. Type "clean"
Note: for system data safety, only have the one target drive connected, so as to not unintentionally mess with any secondary drive.
Greg, I really love this series! I have been out of the PC building game since about 2005, and this series has been invaluable in gearing up for my new build. Hardware troubleshooting was always a weak point in my knowledge, but Fix or Flop has really helped. I'm back to being the 'Tech Support Guy' for my group of friends...and I have to say it feels good. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate it, Anthony!
@@GregSalazar Hi Greg I am sorry but can you so a super cheap PC BUILD using i3 13th gen and Intel ARC A380. I know it is not good but is it fine enough I mean 8GB RAM is not enough in todays standards but that build should work but is it really enough for aomeone to build it...
@@GregSalazar During your Video near the end at around 16:27 to 17:00 there was a Hum that was being picked-up with your Mic when you moved near your Portable Screen. I don't know if, you noticed it or not.
Also, Your series is Great! Believe me it is a pain when working on PC's that have "problem(s)" and i use that loosely because there can be multi-problems that are caused by just 1 thing! Sometime that resolves the rest of the problems but, not always! Repairing PC's does take a lot of time but, is worth the effort!
Starting off with the DMs, oh boy this is gonna be a ride
I can't stress how helpful this series is, I work as feild engineer fixing/ diagnosing issues with ATMs/Slot machines and betting terminals. Although it is just PCs focused, there are some similarities when it comes to these machine I work on but at the end of the day they are computers. I appreciate how I can take away the concept of each of these videos and apply them to work. Can honestly say this series has helped me so much with my job. Thank you so much Greg, keep up the good work man loving the videos 👍❤️
Just found your channel yesterday I think. I’ve been watching nonstop… you make approaching builds doable and not so damns scary. I appreciate this greatly. My set up is older for sure and works fine for playing FFXIV and some others but I so am going to start setting $ aside to start my first build.
Good luck with the build when you get the money! :)
Greg your series has given me the ability to troubleshoot and do some of the easier and a few more advanced repair steps. Your content is amazing and I have helped several friends now with basic problems they have been having with their PC's.... Now if I could only do good cable management...
So fun and informative to watch someone else do the absolute most difficult part of building a PC... troubleshooting. Thanks for these.
Another great learning episode 👏 thank you Greg for sharing! I've learned so much from watching you troubleshoot / build these complex rigs. Keep up the great work, I look forward to the next one.
A good day so far just got better! Love fix or flop!
this is one of the best series on computer troubleshooting...never really know what is going to happen, and as a copier tech, who also builds computers once in a while, its great.
I have never missed a video and Im still never missing a video. Glad to see a new upload
I greatly appreciate that, Edwin!
@@GregSalazar btw i use a similar style case the ASUS GT 502 white. I ended up taking the stickers off the fans for a cleaner look because it looked weird having the stickers showing the details.
That was a nice clean system, glad you were able to solve the issue. I'd bet the owner was relieved & grateful.
Great job with troubleshooting. I am on the older side, and I recall the days back with Windows NT when you had to load the driver like you did to see the hard drives. RAID (SCSI) was the worse. Once again, great job.
Thanks Greg for the video. I just finished a build with the same case. Wish you would show how you fixed it and what you did. Installing the drivers.
This was a great one! I haven't seen this issue happen before so it was fun to learn this!!! Thanks Greg!
Definitiely a lesson learned on this one. Kudos to a great job Greg!
Great! This is a little different fix video. M.2 issues, ram slot issue...etc. Love these videos! Thank you Greg
Just finished building my first PC and the fix or flops series helped a lot along with the other informative videos. Thanks Greg.
you need the VMD driver because the VMD controller is enabled in the BIOS - either load the VMD driver in the OS install or disable the VMD in the BIOS
Exactly. This reminds me of the transition from IDE to AHCI, Windows didn't have built-in AHCI drivers, so you needed a Floppy Disk or CD-ROM with AHCI drivers to install Windows. Neither Windows 10/11 have drivers for Intel VMD built-in, so before installation, as shown in the video, you'll need to provide drivers so Windows Install can see the drive you want to install to.
Great work as always, Ive built 7 PC's over the years. I always learn something from your video's. Thanks for the info!
I'll keep this one in mind for the future if I'm having this sort of issue. Thanks for always posting these videos they are immensely helpful to build knowledge.
I just finished my first build in literally over a decade (I call it my midlife crisis build, went as all-in as I could afford). Watching your videos really added to my confidence doing my first water cooled build. As for the AIO USB cable, the one with an actual screen just adds the USB header to that wire bundle, a lot smarter. Thank you for all the very useful info!
Awesome. I love watching you troubleshoot!!
A great video Greg! Windows media creation tool is not without it's hiccups! I recently did a clean install of Windows on my computer from Windows 10 Pro and it was a nightmare ! I had go back on Microsoft's site and download another media creation tool on a USB drive and start over ,maybe it was about the third start over. I like the way you never gave up and how patient you were .We can all learn from this example.
Excellent job on this fix. Keep up the Great work :).
Greg , u r amazing . I am watching Fix or Flop playlist for 3rd or 4th time.....all the videos . Good job
love this series and how helpful it is for troubleshooting
This series has made me so thankful that I didn’t run into any of these problems when I built my first gaming PC. Only strange thing that happened was my 4080 super came with a 3 PCIe to 12VHPWR adapter & 2 would plug in but the 3rd one wouldn’t for the life of me. I just bought a Cablemod cable & since then my PC hasn’t had any issues.
you learn something new every day thanks for teaching us and entertaining us keep it up props to you
17:40 thats what i love here you often dont just fix the problem and call it a day if there is anything that could lead into some problems even if it means to add some parts or "just" connect some cables or manage them to look as good as possible
He may have set the NVME slot to Optane Mode. That would explain why you had to load the Intel Drivers.
That was actually my first thought, the driver, at my work I've had to do this to multiple Lenovo PC's to get them to boot up. Good stuff man, I'm really happy I found this channel.
I like those Lightning fans - I put two 140 mm fans as front intakes in my Fractal North case so the circular RGB would provide a nice subtle backlighting to the North’s front wood paneling.
Hay greg i always loved your video mostly this fix or flop series
I just keep learning something new. Thank you!
Yay Gregg. This was an awesome video. I learned something new here. 😊
love these videos man i learned a lot.
i learn so much from your videos. Thank You !
at first when you were installing the fans I thought it would look realy ugly but it honestly came out well and looks like a yin and yang design. Very pretty pc for a first time builder and maybe their first custom pc
As good as the fans are, there are also those ugly bequiet stickers on them. I would definately put some black-cirlcled ones over original (or peel them off), because they mess up all the looks. And if they aren't positioned in perfect center spot, you have "concentricity error".
@@xsAMOR yeah that is true, especially the back stickers you see. I understand the front facing fan having sticks on it but I just wish they would give their own blank stickers included to put over the back ones that will be seen in the case. I doubt they'd want you covering the logo though so unlikely you'll get extra stickers to do that
I am so happy with this video!!! I had exactly the same issue with a Kingston NV2 2tb gen 4.0 in my PC (Ryzen 7 5800x MB MSI Carbon Max Wifi x570s). The NVME worked fine on two other Intel platforms (different from each other) so i gave the SSD to my son and bought a new from Crucial and no problem after that. The OS was in another drive, this one was meant to be a secondary disk in my PC... there are mysteries in this area 🤪🤣
Great Detective work. Installing the intel drivers to get drives to be seen Was a weird error . But good to know if it comes up in future. Thanks for Video.😊
I am binging your videos. I have had to install drivers to get drives to be recognized, but this is back when every mobo came with a driver cd, and it was standard to have a cdrom drive, which are now archaic. Love your videos. Its awesome you get to do what you love and get paid for it. I love troubleshooting.
nice vid sir love to watch how you explained and how you fix the pc prob.
Great fix, system and especially the case!
Haha, I knew it! Reinstalling Windows onto Intel platforms that had the 12th gen processors had this issue where you had to install the VMD Controller. This gets wiped when you delete the partitions to reinstall. Thankfully, a quick Googling told me this lil secret. Great job finding that out!
@Greg Salazar Hey Greg a couple of things about newer ASUS boards and the issues you were having. If you would have reset the BIOS it probably would have fixed your problems with the drive detection. The other thing you could have done is switched to EZMODE(F7) and turned Intel RST off (it is available in advanced mode but buried). This enables the RAID controller when on and all drives, including NVME, are under the RAID controller even when not set as a RAID drive. Most modern ASUS and Gigabyte (and probably others) motherboards don't show changes with certain items like drives until a reboot. If you were to turn off Intel RST the drive still would not show in BIOS until the reboot. Hope that helps if you run into similar problems in the future.
I had this same exact issue on my brother in laws pc man what a PITA it was to figure this out took me like 10 hours for something so simple glad you figured it out also
I love these series. I missed them. It has been too long since the last post
You are a Good man Greg, This is why I enjoy your channel.
I have had this issue. It was the Drive controller on the board. I had to change it in the BIOS. Othewise the drive controller on the drive is dead. I also had to install those drivers.
Back in Jan/Feb. I had multiple fsilures and almost had you work on my machine. But I had to replace a drive (I got one of those 980 Pro 2TB with the bad firmware, which was NOT conne ted to my board controller issue. I spent nearly 2 weeks trying to figure out the issue, when I had 3 issues. Windows 11 is garbage out of the box. You have to install a lot of minor things manually, and NOBODY tells you that.
You have to go through this process like you did.
Good job Greg!
This fixed my problem... been on a headache past 3 days.... thank youuuuuuuuu
Also had the same issue with a 3900 I got used for dirt cheap where if the brackets were too tight it wouldnt work, and I thought of your video when trouble shooting, tried it and got it working!
I love these videos most of the time I learn something new from you and the people that share their input in the comments. Which is nice since I will be getting into IT soon.
Had this exact same issue with my nvne drive and older motherboard. Glad it's back up and running!
I've had this issue with windows installations in the past with new drives and found that it's easier, (providing you have another PC handy) to format the drive first and then install it in your desiggnated MB. I thought the case was way too white from the first, so you were correct that the be quiet fans would compliment it.
Like to learn something new every day , noticed the issue at bios, but would have never have though of installing drivers that to you used to fix it good tip and diagnostic.
Slipping a little there Greg! Intel Rapid Storage Technology Drivers are amongst the first things I install into the system during Windows installs, regardless of the RAID config, AHCI vs NVMe modes, etc
I had this issue going back to one of my old Intel builds for my itx 4790k pc needing a software driver to see my storage drive on my Z97 motherboard 👎😡which I needed to download separately from Asus website and install via separately usb while installing my Win7 OS🫣🤔. These series are a treasure trove of knowledge invaluable to any pc user / builder imo. Great work on these series Greg🥰😇💪. Cheers buddy 🥂🍻
Never clicked so fast :) one of my favourite channel on youtube . Regards all the way from Cyprus/Europe Greg :)
Great video which shows sometimes its real simple.
This happened to me once. I think the problem was the partition for my problem. But that’s just my case lol. Good shit Greg. Always watch your videos.
waw that was insane, great White build glad it all worked out :)
"post a picture" - adorable 😁
Had a similar issue when I helped my friend build his PC. M.2 worked in my system but wouldn’t show in his. Tried all boot options and even the RST and still nothing. Sent the drive back and got another brand and it worked immediately. Was SUPER frustrating though so I feel your pain lol
I had the exact same issue with my NZXT cooler fitting my board. My solution was to zip tie the cables as tightly together as I possibly could and squash them as close to the cooler as possible. May look into a different cooler in the future.
i have been came across the same issue when i get my new laptop last year. Surprisingly that method solved the problem for me too.
I have used new and old/used SSDs initialized and non initialized NVMEs, and HDDs on at least a couple of dozen builds made from scratch, I have never had this kind of issue where I needed to install drivers for the drives, it would have certainly made me crazy to troubleshoot this kind of issue.
The most viable solution for the micro USB connector will be a 90 degree microUSB adapter if it can fit, if not then replacement cable.
The build with the extra fans installed looks amazing, you did a great job!
We had this problem at my work place, We were imaging some Dell desktops with NVME drives, and we had to create a custom windows install that had the driver for that particular drive pre-loaded so Windows installer could find and install it. This is actually an easy fix really. And it's not bios related, at least for us it wasn't.
Another great video, thank you.
Love the white theme in that case, looks really sleek and modern! I might copy the idea !
ASUS been taking Ls this whole week. And yes, that heatsink design is bad. Hopefully the VRM temps are something to boast about.
I wonder if ASUS will bounce back after all the recent chaos
The board is fine, Intel has a specified keep-out-zone around the socket where no components with a z-height greater than X can be placed, and the board obeys these rules. NZXT doesn't care and makes their pump block bigger than the keep-out-zone, so while ASUS has been taking many Ls lately, this time ASUS is not to blame. Yeah they could have left more space, but they're not obligated to, NZXT is at fault here.
@@Alvin853 Yep NZXT needs to think about user functionality while selling these $200+ AIOs
This was more of a user error though not Asus. The guy built his own rig with probably very little experience and ran into this. Nothing to do with Asus lol.
@@richardzhang2773 There are so many different board/Ram combos its almost impossible to make it work with everything. That's where knowledge/experience comes in. In this case, common sense should tell you that wedging things could cause problems if not a short and fry the board, ram or cpu. Some people just shouldn't pick up tools, just like some people shouldn't sing out loud.
I've encountered similar issues with M.2s a couple fo times. One tool I use is an external M.2 drive enclosure. When I get a drive acting like this, I'll take it out, pop it into the enclosure, plug it into another PC, and diskpart and clean the drive. That's "fixed" supposedly bad M.2s a few times.
You can get an M.2 drive enclosure for around $20 or so. Worth it as a troubleshooting tool, has saved my bacon a few times.
I've been binging this series and always came away feeling I understood the methods and solutions. This was the first episode where I felt like we went through the final fix a little too quick, I don't really know where you were able to pull those drivers from or how you knew to try that. Luckily in the comments people provided more info that the owner had RAID settings turned on for his nvme drives in BIOS and that led to the drives not being detected without the driver loaded. I just went to watch another video where someone showed how to download the IRST drivers and put them on the same flash drive as the windows installer so they can then be loaded. Just a note that the solution was a little harder to comprehend in this video.
Awesome work Greg keep it up. I just had pretty much the same issue as this but now can't see the m.2 in bios after booting win 11 think I might have to rma the drive.
Turn off intel rapid storage technology in the bios
as soon as you said "make sure you dont power off your system" (10:50) my phone died so now im watching on my laptop lol
Greg As always a very good video. It was very nce of you to hook him up with 6 more fans and it does look good. it`s a shame NZXT doesn`t do something to fix the problem with the Micro usb lead why not put a 90* clip in the box so you can avoide such issues but again a very good job done.
I was literally yelling install rst driver. I had this problem multiple times. Good job 👍
I just had this exact issue, along with some other small ones on an MSI z790 board. Super frustrating, eventually bought a new one and have not had a hiccup since.
I had the same issue on my rig to fix it I just ran the rad tubes to the front of the case helped relieve tension on the far left ram stick
I like when you get an odd issue, that really can be a teaching moment, even for us old grizzled technicians.
What a awesome wholesome repair glad you were able to save his parts and add a bit of bling wish I could figure out why my 6900xt keeps crashing to a black screen 😂
Any overclocking ?
your a great person to learn with you describe everything to a tee. Thank you
Corsair coolers come with right angle micro usb cables to the block should have tried one of those
s4 ep3 i finally learnt a thing love the content keep it up
i do like how the pc looked with the 6 extra fans. its like a split color build now. black at the bottom and then from the gpu upwards white. with the black running up on the right (looking in to the case) and the white running down on the left.
Thanks Greg!
That was a common thing back with windows 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, and ME to have to load drivers for the on-board controller during installation in order for windows to see the drive. Didn't think I would ever see this happen again since XP.
wow that was a different one glad you got it
Great lesson thanks
Greg i really appreciate this one. Had. Very similar problem when i reset my 11th Gen Omen laptop. There is something about how the raid drivers for 10th and 11th gen intel machines is designed that it will not read drives without it installed. A great PSA would be 10th 11th gen intel require rst driver to be loaded on install or your drive wont show. And if install doesnt work after you need to add the driver with boot disk
loading the driver is something that us old school computer techs are very familiar with. I've had to load drivers for a Windows install more times that I care to admit. I was screaming "Download the driver from Asus to get Windows to install" at least 5 times while watching this video. lol
I love this videos is great! Have you tryed to convert the m2 ssd disk to GPT from mbr? That can be one of the resons it dont show up in windows 11 installation?
Beautiful looking rig.
Love this…subbing now
This happened to me when I built my first PC. I was annoyed by the fact the driver was not detected (all the other drives SSD and HDD were detected). I made some change in the configuration of the nvme settings but I don;t remember exactly what but that worked. I am glad you finally did it...
