Owner of the pc, I can’t express my gratitude to you for fixing the pc. It’s always been my dream to have my own pc and now it’s come true partly because of you.
Happy for you bro. Always good to see the younger generations building their own and being in touch with the tech. It's no reason to be ashamed for asking for help, I needed a lot back in the day. That's a seriously beefy rig, I'm envious, enjoy it.
@@POLARTTYRTM Thank you, I have definitely enjoyed it a lot
@@POLARTTYRTM I fully agree that there's no shame in asking for help. I've built several rigs over the years. Always with help from others since I'm low vision.
A beast of a build for your first PC
You did a good job. The BIOS thing is relatively new and it is extremely annoying how manufacturers are handling it. Enjoy the rig, it's got years of fun in it.
It's great to see someone so young building their own PC. Especially since he did make a good effort to troubleshoot it himself.
I completely agree!
I guess not all kids are bad.
his daddy bought it, but yeah respect for trying to build pc on ur own
I build my first pc when I was 11. 6 years ago
@@haky6737 don’t assume what you don’t know pcs are cheap doesn’t mean his daddy bought it be nice 👍🏽
@@DentSideDee71 rtx is cheap? buddy did u even watch the video?
I respect that at 14 this kid was able to build it still, and even troubleshoot it farther than most adults can.
I have been teaching my son about PC repair since he was 5-6yrs old, and now that he is 14 he fixes all his friends PCs.
Thats nice!!
That's awesome. Nicely done!!
so good
Made me smile. Thank you for sharing!
That's pretty awesome that at 14 they wanted to build their first PC. I didn't build my first until I was in my early 20s. It's so helpful that the next generation of builders have so many RUclips videos to help them build and troubleshoot, and sometimes have someone who can help them when all else fails 😊
I'm glad Greg was able to help this young builder out and get his system working...
When I was 14 ( 1985 ) - the computer scene was nothing like it is now - LoL If it was I probably would want to build a machine :)
I didn't build my first PC until I was 19. This was in 2019, and I'll never forget the feeling of euphoria I felt when I pressed the power button and the system posted on the first try. 4 years later, and I have now built 6 PCs. I wish I could do it all the time, but money doesn't grow on trees, so it's a very special occasion when I'm able to build a system.
I wanted to start building PCs when I was 14, but being 14, I didn't have any money to spend on computer parts. I doubt I'll ever become a parent, but in the alternate universe where I am a parent, I'd get my child into PC building at a very young age. My father built a couple PCs in the 1990s, but he had abandoned the hobby by the time I was born in 2000. Oh well.
Unlike my dad, I'm never going to give up on the hobby. I'll be building PCs until the day I die. I find it very relaxing and therapeutic to put a PC together. I just wish I was able to do it more than once every two years. 😞
@doabrad1850 Nice. Keep at it. I have now built 10 pc's half of them were personal rigs others were for family or friends. Take Care and Blessings for you and your family.
If the power was to go out while flashing and the motherboard has qflash will it be able yo flash again?
@@INFINITEShoobes Hello. If the MotherBoard has a back-up bios chip: you could do a flashing for the backup chip ; but most likely not what was the main chip.
that kid sounds so sweet, nice to see him getting into building pcs early
Maybe he wanted to upload kitten murders?
You don’t know why he wanted a pc!
Lol
Just kidding.
Any kid that is trying to PC build at 14 is ok in my book.
@@planexshifter why even comment this
They didn't even have PC's When I was 14,🤣🤣I was learning about radios and electronics!!
@@wallychambe1587 "I was learning about radios and electronics" 🤓🤓
Big W for saving this gpu from combusting down the road. Feels like this has to be the another highlight for this episode.
What an insane build for a 14 year old. His parents must have a lot of money or he worked a lot and saved up money. But really cool that teens still build their own PCs, I love it. BIOS updates are an issue many don't think about so I don't judge him about that. Same with fan placement. It is his first own build rig and for that he did a great job!
That's what I was thinking. At that age I was saving up Christmas and birthday money just to try and get whatever the new $300-400 console was. It was the only money I got as a kid. No lawn mowing money or allowance. And this kid just builds this PC, has issues, and is able to buy new parts to try out on the fly?
One of my great nephews is 16, plays the piano and is about to graduate from high school! Been taking college course classes!😲😲
Yeah when I was like 16 or 17 I saved up a lot of money and built good a midrange pc
IDK why but I always love watching this series. Even when its this simple or something super complex, its always fun to watch. I really like the small upgrade the viewer got with the fans as well will probably make a huge difference over time for temps.
Big respect to be quiet! Going to be using a ton of their products in my am5 build.
two of my fav repair guys are you and carey holzman, you both keep it real and dont make everything sound over the top / complicated i love it
Great series, by far my favorite PC binge-watch series on RUclips. I appreciate all the tips I've picked up from watching this series. Really enjoy your channel thanks for all the great content...
I am happy to see some one spending the time to build their own system. A little bit of learning that goes a long ways. Thank you for helping clarify things, I spent time to teach a friend how to build their own computer MANY years ago (they are illiterate/can not read or write) so I sat with them reading the manuals and explaining everything to them as they put it together, (back in the 386 era of computers) since then, they have always built their own.
Nice gesture fixing the fan configuration and cable management.
One thing that could have helped even further is to repurpose the original front fan as top-left exhaust instead of removing it. Couldn't hurt.
My first build 3 yrs. ago did the same thing. I was happy everything had power fans work lights work but no post. I first check the ram & had graphics on CPU so I removed the graphics to check that. Eventually I realized I had the just released CPU & had to do a Bios update for the motherboard to get it working. Lucky my board had Bios update & did not have to get an older CPU. Before I built my 1st PC I watched a lot of your videos, plus others like Paul's Hardware & Jays two cents. Thank you & all the rest who post these learning videos which help us a lot.
0:11 If the owner just read what the part picker said, it would have warned about the bios. Part picker shows boards as compatible even when they may possibly need a bios upgrade before they will work. The warning is pretty hard to miss. Happened to me on my last build as I wanted to use an older board on purpose to save money
We found a unicorn! It's pretty rare to find a PC builder that skipped the prebuilt step. Nearly all of us tend to start with upgrading/refitting a prebuilt before going straight to building it from the ground up. Kudos little man.
that's true. My first was a custom pre-built. I picked out the part and had it made for me and shipped to me in 1-2 weeks.
Dude i love how honest you are in your work, you never hesitate to correct yourself if you say or do the wrong thing. Exactly why i will continue to watch your videos👍
It's really good to see the younger generation not only dedicated to PC gaming instead of smart phones, but building themselves. As an added note, regarding the 4090 burning connectors, if you've watched NorthridgeFix's latest content, he's saying that the melted connectors are not all from unseated cables, but from cables that are correctly inserted also, this may not be a 'user error' issue (it wasn't to begin with.. if you have a power cable incorrectly seated the card should have fail safes other than exploding) fortunately it seems to be (mostly) the 90's that are having the issue, the 80's seem relatively safe, since there are practically no cases of melting amongst 3090Ti owners, which use the same connector and a higher power draw, this would point to an issue on the 90 series cards.. but the saga is continuing to develop
I guessed a BIOS problem right off the bat. Thanks, Greg. I'm learning a lot from this series, so thank you. Also, a big thumbs up to Be Quiet for helping out the channel with their awesome fans. I like when companies do positive things like that instead of putting out a beta BIOS and then saying if you use it you void your warranty... ASUS, or having PSUs that can blow up and trying to keep it quiet or refusing to RMA it when I found out I had one... Gigabyte. You are both off my buying list for the foreseeable future.

Glad you're getting sponsors, every little bit helps
Top tip from someone who's been fixing things for a long time, there is never really a wrong thing to start with; keep trying lots of different things & eventually you'll get enough practise to get a feel for what it could be, always tinker with things always have fun.
I'm here crying with the same issue, just finished the build tonight. Everything works, fans spins but screen is black. I immediately came to your chanel for help and this must be faith. Now cross fingers that this works for me as well, but it will have to wait till the morning. I'm dead tired.
Do update us on your adventure. All the best.
This is such a classic problem. I am glad to see some companies find a way around it. I had the same thing happen on my Z170 board going from a 6700K to a 7700K 4 or 5 years ago. And going from a core 2 duo to a quad core years before that. And upgrading from a 1700mhz AMD Athlon to a 2100mhz AMD Athlon back on a Soltek SL75 board back in the early 2000s. And going from a 500mhz processor to an 866mhz processor pentium 3. And going back to when I started working on PCs going from a 266mhz to a 333mhz Pentium 2 in 1998.
That's a solid fix, and a solid upgrade. I like the choice of CPU cooler. I don't like liquid cooling, and that cooler looks pretty beefy---with a fan behind it, I'm sure it moves some heat
I love this series so much. I’ve been binge watching it in preparation for my new build, which I just finished today. I pretty much had the same problem, but it was AMD instead. Luckily I knew what to do because I’ve been watching your videos. Thanks for making them. They are extremely informative and enjoyable.
Good to see my go to PSU brand being a sponsor here. Good choice. i build gamepcs from cheap second hand hardware for a hobby and always look for be quiet psu's. They just always work for me up till now (other brands fail time after time). Durable and reliable.
It's really great to see hardware vendors like be quite willing to help out with this series.
In brief summary, dram light could mean faulty ram slots, faulty ram, faulty cpu memory controller, faulty motherboard, or incompatible bios version
have learned a ton of troubleshooting techniques from watching this series. thank you!
Very good video lots of useable info. Big thanks to Be Quiet for the sponsor. NICE!
Kudos to BeQuiet for stepping up. Makes me feel good for buying BeQuiet coolers and fans.
Im addicted to these videos!
This is exactly why I was lucky to have the parts growing up and even for the most part now to change things out and troubleshoot issues like this properly. This is also why I think a shop for people to work on their own computers that can lend parts for testing and updating bios for compatibility is a good idea.
Keep them coming Greg. I have "some" knowledge" from exploring the self-build world on my own, but content like this is where a lot of my understanding of PC issues has been learned. Doing a great service to us PC nuts, and entertaining along the way.
thanks to BE QUIET for Helping support this play list , we love this series
I know how he feels, the first rig I built was twenty two years ago this month and I found the first CPU I bought a AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 , ah the good old days of 40 GB hard drives. Always learn something new, every day.
Another good one. Props to dude on building his first rig. The dang BIOS thing has tripped up even seasoned builders, so I hope he doesn't feel too bad for overlooking it.
Be Quiet is great. 602 case, 8 fans, and their AIO. Love it.
I have an old Hyper 212 Evo cooler on my aging FX-8320e. The fan, while still working, was getting loud and whiny. I replaced the fan with a beQuiet! Pure Wings 2 fan and it runs just as cool (cooler actually, but that might have just been from spring cleaning) and darn near dead silent. Love their fans.
I look forward to these vids every week, now officially my fav YT show
Great job as always-
Your channel really does help- My PC wouldn't post after I moved to a new location, I followed your step to solve it, it was the bios. But I think the mother board was damaged during the move.
It did post to a safe bios, but I had to leave it running 24/7 or I would have to repeat the process.
I was going to upgrade soon anyway, so I upgraded to a 12400 on a B660 Tuff gaming board, a big jump from a 10400 and I can upgrade to a 13600k when ready to do so.
once i seen the 600 series motherboard with 13th gen i figured it was old Bios. that TUF H670 is $180 dollars you can get Z690/Z790 for that price or less currently.
Props to the owner for taking on the task. The first PC build, especially with brand new hardware, is always the most nerve-racking. And it doesn't always go as planned. What's super unfair is the removal of actual debug displays from nearly all midrange and entry level boards. If they're going to save pennies there on $200+ boards, it'd be nice if they actually shipped with BIOS versions that aren't years out of date.
This was a GREAT troubleshooting video!👏👏👏 That outdated bios would definitely catch MANY people.
Dude, this is the most entertaining series of any tech tuber out there
Been here many times. Also, pretty impressive that a 14yr old built and began troubleshooting this!
13:50 No need to lower the exhaust fan - warm air tends to rise surprisingly quickly with little inertia IME, so you might even consider moving it to the top entirely, fan bearings permitting. Now in the lowered position it might be drawing in warm air from the other components better. If in doubt, temperatures would have to be watched in use, but that's fine-tuning, alongside XMP, C-States, ASPM and such.
I got a Silent Wings 4 140 mm as an exhaust fan recently, and the rubber nibble mounting definitely gets a thumbs up from me. It's holding on well even in elongated holes (which is more than I can say for one-sided Noctua rubber nipples, an NF-A14 with those slides down immediately). The fan itself has the kind of premium feel that you expect at its price point, too, and dare I say it's pretty sexy-looking?
Never stop fix or flop
I mount my CPU fans on the left out of habit. In most boards the RAM is way too close to the fan, when it's on the right. And I had the fan basically vibrate a stick. Which caused random bluescreens. Once I put the fan on the left. It never happened again. But I still have the fan pull heat from the HS. Not pull air from the rear. Boards should add another debug light "Firmware".
I'm so glad you lowered the rear fan, it was stressing me out so much 😂😂
Awesome video as always Greg!!
Also, from my understanding the intel 600 series chipsets in terms of overall features go Z690, H670, B660, H610
Love this series. Whenever I get a new motherboard, doesn't matter what the cpu is... I always always do Q-Flash method with the pendrive + motherboard + powersupply
Best channel/series if you actually want to learn. Thanks as usual Greg.
I love this series from you. My mother used to live in Orlando but she passed a few years ago.
I kept eyeing that misaligned back fan with a bit of worry, the satisfaction when you moved it down lmao
its so funny that bios problem with sign of dram compability , as a experience builder its easy to try those things ( cmos , switching parts etc )
but the issues is even if someone brought it to the store bcs youre not as experience as greg, they will likely to make you buy / swap something instead doing troubleshoot .
those vendors need to work on them debug led
I replaced a lot of fans in my case with BeQuiet fans, and my PC has never been so Quiet (lol). Lot of airflow for how little sound it makes. Highly recommend!
one thing AMD did right with the AM5 platform was to make all boards support bios flashback.
hopefully intel does te same thing next gen
I have been watching this fix or flop series a while. Actually I got a big knowledge through this series. Even now I can guess what is the problem with the pc
Be quiet is one of my favourite manufacturers. I have installed their silent fans many times and love their cases especially the Pure Base series!
Always worth checking the motherboard website online to learn which CPU's are supported out of the Box, and if newer CPU's are supported with an Bios update, if it doesnt support your intended CPU, if theres no bios flashback support buy a cheap no thrills CPU that deffinately will post as well ive had to do this myself with AM4.cant remmember the exact name something like Athlon II 200GE or something.
I'm still surprised you are not over 1m subs. Been here since the college days of this channel.
I think it's great that you provide your expertise for free to one of your young viewers. It makes me glad I'm a subscriber.
this video is just what i needed as a break from all of the GPU reviews and shenanigans, good stuff!
Nice fix! Glad to see this young person made the attempt and will learn from this. Kudos to @bequietofficial for supporting you, Greg! Because of you, I purchased a 500DX case a while ago, filled it with Light Wings and their AIO (I can't recall the name of it). I love how my PC looks, sounds, and how cool it is! One of their power supplies will be next. 👍
I wish more motherboard manuals would link to the online repository of bios and walk them through what bios works with what cpus better, so someone who was new at building pcs could figure this out. I remember when I first started building pcs during the pandemic and trying to pair a 5600x with an older am4 mobo was a nightmare. TBH even now when I buy older b450 mobos to pair with 3600x or newer cpus for budget builds I have to keep a ryzen 2700 around incase I have to dig around said mobos bios to update it to the latest correct bios, its a pain and I know what im doing lol.
Another great vid! Thanks for the playlist! Much appreciated!!
I think Manufacturers should make sure their products sold are up to date, so consumers don't run into this kind of scenario. First time builders don't have previous gen CPU's lying around to do this bios update.
Nice work, and, quickly done! ( this fully compensated for the time you swapped mainboards for a fubar pump another time!) :)
Another awesome video. I installed one of those fans in my new system and Im very impressed with the lower noise , good stuff Maynard
Greg, I love your videos man, I hope you keep them coming for as long as possible. They're not only entertaining but also educational. As for Be Quiet!, I recently got 4x Silent Wings Pro 4 for my own PC and I have to say, the build quality is exceptional and despite being pricey, they deliver solid performance and most importantly they're quiet!
Thanks again for another great video!
Absolutely love your Channel Greg.
Sucks older manufactured boards ship with outdated bios and if you're unlucky enough you have this issue and have to have an older chipset to socket in just to update the bios.
Pretty good build. Some things I would tell him is: get a board with a flashback feature next time. Saves a lot of headaches in the future. Also don't cheap out of the psu. Did that on my very first build years ago and yes: Really regretted it. I bring that up because I'm currently on the hunt for a new 1000w+ psu.
I think the wiring situation here and other rigs is from sure frustration of being unable to get this PC to post. Most likely was re-mounting components and wiring harness over and over. I do field repairs (non-PC related) and I get called in when other techs can't figure it out, I see this frustration all the time.
Glad to see Bequiet is the sponsor, love the series as well!
I have one of those be quiet! Silent Wings 4 in the small form factor, low power consumption media PC, that I'm watching this video on, and it really is very quiet, efficient and very affordable.
Let's see what Greg has for us today 😁👍
BIOS... had that issue in the past couple of times. Thank you for the video 🙂
I hate the fact manufacturer's update the bios right form the getgo. That's su stupid, I doubt it's his fault, he didn't know
@@chrism869 yeah sadly it is true and necesarry. For example BIOS can have some bug or you bought some latest CPU where BIOS does not have it on its own list and that is why it wont boot. It is good to update BIOS when you buy a motherboard but read its description on the web page. The worse it is, if you do not have flashback to be able to flash bios without correct CPU where in that case supportes CPU needs to be putted in so you can upgrade it. There is more to this but I went through it roughly.
I use a be quiet case and it is fantastic. My pc runs so cool and quiet. Theybare great products and Greg you absolutely rock. Great content
My most hated issue the Bios being out of date. Always an issue buying a good previous generation board and not knowing if this is going to happen. Always nice when someone with spare parts can swap them out and diagnose the issue. Great videos keep up the great work helping PC lovers.
Oh man, thank god he got you involved, that GPU cable could have been a disaster.
Thank you so much for this play list, all of the helpful tips are highly appreciated. I've learned much from the explanation you provided.
Gratz on the long term sponsor by Be Quiet! Keep these videos coming Greg they are very insightful!
I still watch your channel even when all my pc's run perfectly fine. Satisfying
Lets goooo. Greg is back at it again with another banger!!
So nice to see you get so excited when the fix is working, you rock my friend 😊
Hiya, Greg! I really enjoy this series, and I was curious about some things.
Where applicable, could you investigate correlations between episodes? The reason I ask this is because I feel like most instances of CPU problems were with AMD chips, for example. I just think it might add a little hidden insight as to what to expect when you're preparing a new rig.
Thanks!
I've mentioned it before but this is the exact problem I had somewhat recently. Processor was too new for the motherboard's BIOS, needed to put a different processor into it to update the BIOS, then put the other one back in and it's right as rain. Nothing on the motherboard to deal with it without the old processor, and I actually hauled it around and either got "Can't do anything about that." or "We'll need to hold onto it for a few days, also that'll cost around the same as just buying a processor to do this with yourself.". It's one thing if the parts to do it aren't around, but if I need something done that'll take like, an hour tops (and that's probably being generous) if the necessary component is available then don't tell me that I'm going to have to drop the thing off and come back another day for it. There's no sense in that, no sense at all.
I replaced my system case with a be quiet case, 850w PSU and silent wing fans based on Greg’s recommendations. Very happy with that purchase.
be quiet is a great brand with very solid products and reputation, but for some reason I don't see a lot of people adopting their products.
y'know greg didn't need to give this build those fans but he did and thats awesome, that issue could have caught a lot of new builders out well done, its good to see young builders coming through !.
Hello Greg Once again you have sorted this one out it`s a very good thing your doing also a big shout out to Be Quiet very nice of companies that come to help also.
Loving the Scorpions album cover in the background- great album!
A good rule of thumb is to buy the mother board with the chip set that supports the version of CPU you have. Even when going with budget motherboards use the correct chip set.
I had this same exact issue when the 5600x first came out… it was my first ever PC build and it took me a week to figure it out it was a bios issue. Luckily my board had a QFlash option and I had a friend that knew how to flash the bios.
seems we need a bios update indicator on start up flash screen or maybe auto bios updates on start up, would be nice seeing more and more things are becoming plug n play, would be nice..... maybe
Just found your channel and I’m happy that there is a content creator
Like you helping the pc noobs
Heck I’m learning too
That q-flash thing is such a sweet feature of the motherboards that have it..
Love your videos man. Random request, can you do a short or tiktok or something about how you frame your vinyl? Lol. I'm a collector myself and would love a 'healthy' way to display them. Love the BMTH one especially! I have AMO signed and I'd love to have it up on the wall.
