Here we are, 4 years later, after you posted, and your STILL answering questions And checking these comments. Very cool. Thanks for the video, I was clueless, looking for a plug underneath the mower. 😅Appreciatcha. 🌻
I always warm the engine up before draining this stirs up all the dirt in the engine and it come out with the oil . Also the oil is hot so it flows quicker , so the clean oil that goes in the engine looks nice and clean and stays clean for a while .
My lawnmower is 20 years old. Probably going change the oil soon. Which is what brought me here. I haven't sharpened the blade either. I used to have a small landscaping business but I never changed oil. 😂 This is one of the mowers I used back then. To be honest, it still seems as good as it did new. Doesn't smoke, starts first pull, wheels are fine, no holes in the bag.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ruclips.net/user/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Great simple video. I love the basics here. Thanks so much! Time to get this fall yard work done with peace of mind using a great running mower! Have a wonderful day ahead!
Just changed the 5+ year old black syrup in dad's push mower today. Pulled the plug that's probably the same age and for some odd reason is black as sin 🤣 Guess it's time for an arrrr filter too. Glad the mower is 20 plus years old and not worth much. I looked into a new push and nice ones go for like 350 bucks! So glad I'm helping Ol Dad out.
Your dog is hilarious. He wants your attention so bad poor bebe! I can hear him panting too throughout your video. He was so giving you a present and it does look like a bird!!😂😅😂😅 Hope he got his his much needed attention after this video!
Oil pump is absolutely the way to go. Briggs and stratton sell a purpose built oil pump, cheap too and works beautifully and takes 5 mim to change the oil.
Look at the twins!! I have the same one with big back wheels, installed all newer ones on from craftsman/Husqvarna before they went to MTD made junk. Love it starts first pull everytime still I take good care of it
Good job my friend. I never knew there was a drain plug under the deck. I have only ever turned it on the side. Going to do it today and look for that drain plug.
First off, thank you. I feel stupid on looking how to change oil on a small engine!! Easy generally. . . This is the first mower I have EVER had that didn't have a drain plug. It was more than due. . . So I decided to change it. I guess they sell more mowers if they don't give you a way to change it like any other conventional engine. All I can do is shake my head. . . Lol. Thanks for the ole' tip it on the side wisdom. 😂
So my Craftsman mower wasn’t starting. So I replaced oil, new air filter, and new spark plug. Still didn’t start, so I tightened the handle chord and it starts up right away.
I always tip mine out the fill tube method. A lot easier than the plug underneath. My fairly new Briggs is the new one that supposedly never needs an oil change. Baloney. I change my oil at least once a season.
Why is it that there’s what looks like acres on your right tire kind of staggered starting in 3:40? I’m just generally curious, is it because the tread is gone and your trying to create something that will give some traction?
Have a craftsman 7hp Briggs and Stratton mower for 24 years never change the oil and it till start up on one pull, this morning it started smoking a little time to change the oil and filter I guess
Prefer your first way but can't kneel down and get up any more, so I use a sucky pump from a water paint dispenser with a tube attached to remove oil through the filler pipe. 10-30 oil does the trick and never let it get discoloured or fall into the trap of thinking it looks OK so I'll defer the change. A few cents worth of oil is a better option than an extensive repair.
odd question when cutting grass is it "beneficial" to let the mower run completely out of gas to put fresher gas in the tank? didn't know if that helped (or hurt) the performance of the mower.
I have a Briggs & Stratton 4 HP from 2009, I use it often, heavy use, been through several blades,,, it still starts right up, still has great compression and good power. I purchased it new from Home Depot, and the first thing I did was to toss the shitty B&S 30w oil it came with, into the recycle bin.... THE BEST OIL TO RUN FOR A LONG LIFE WITHOUT CARBON BUILD UP IS 100% SYNTHETIC MOTORCYCLE OIL. I use the Quicksilver Full Synthetic 10W-30 Motorcycle Oil quart, available on Amazon. It just makes sense, a small, high revving 4-stroke engine needs pure synthetic oil made from natural gas, Just like a motor cycle engine..... Not the crude oil sludge that Briggs & Stratton wants you to use, it builds up carbon deposits in the head and kills the engine compression over time.
My lawn mower manual said to run the mower until it stop. The gas should be gone by then. Can't say if that is the right way but I did this several times.
Yeah I would never do it again. Fucked up my airfilter and all doing that. It’s funny how he even says. “Oh look it’s coming out the exhaust!” It ain’t supposed to do that at all😂
To prevent oil from coming out of any other ports, the manual even shows spark plug side goes up not side ways. So oil drains towards the back of the engine, away from the intake and exhaust. Inconvenient. Oil pump best.
I cut my grass, get the engine, and oil, nice and warm, then use my vacuum pump at the end of the year. While your there, new sparkplug and air filter.
I just take mine to any lube place and let them do it while I'm getting my truck serviced also. I just play stupid, there's enough places where nobody sees me twice. Let them do it. I'm already paying for an expensive oil change anyway. I give them a bottle of water and I'm on my way. And my girlfriend can now mow the yard several more times without me wondering if the motors going to be ruined.
Question, is it better to drain the oil before storing it for the winter or to do it in the spring before you put gas in it? Only way to do mine is turn it over and i can't do that with gas in the engine since it'll leak so i can't do it with the engine warm.
I would change the oil when you store your mower for winter. That way your engine has nice fresh oil and you take out all contaminated oil which could damage your engine during layup.
Either full synthetic 5w-30, conventional or synthetic 10w-30, or SAE 30. I use full synthetic 5w30 and my lawn mower is way easier to start and burns less oil.
I checked and the oil was nasty. Put in Synthetic 0-20. Might change in the fall to get the old sludge out. Hey these beasts are expensive, oil is not.
you just tilted the lawnmower the wrong way (the green mower) it should ALWAYS be air filter side up not down. To prevent oil from coming out of the exhaust always make sure the piston is at top dead center by pulling the pull start till it is stiff. You made a lot of mistakes

Same here. I run the engine for a few minutes. Also cover the gas cap with a plastic bag to no gas leaks out.
DAGNABBIT! That makes more sense. Gotta used mower---oil was thin and black! Too late now,... where were you when I needed YOU? 🌻

Dispite not having a dog and after watching this video I managed to change the oil, at last. Thank you so much. Great simple vid. Tony.
Glad it helped!
Does the gas tank need to be empty in order to tilt the machine for the oil to come out?
Great simple video. I love the basics here. Thanks so much! Time to get this fall yard work done with peace of mind using a great running mower! Have a wonderful day ahead!

Keep those old ones running. New ones have a hefty price tag these days.
Car prices 😭.
Screws in the tyres for traction. Outstanding.

She always does. She is the star of the show.👍👍
Oil pump is absolutely the way to go. Briggs and stratton sell a purpose built oil pump, cheap too and works beautifully and takes 5 mim to change the oil.
Really? Did you notice when he showed us this method it didn't even pump any oil out?
@@bfozhe didn’t pump it enough times to create the vacuum. Or maybe he had the relief valve opened to avoid creating any suction 🤷♂️
Thank you very much, I can no longer procrastinate on changing my lawnmower oil now. Knowledge received!!
On most mowers today, option 2 and 3 are your only options because most don’t have drain plugs.
Followed your instructions, and completed the oil change. Thank you.
Glad it helped👍👍
Which method did you use? He offered three.
@@SmallEngineDIYafter how many working hours do you change the oil?
Look at the twins!! I have the same one with big back wheels, installed all newer ones on from craftsman/Husqvarna before they went to MTD made junk. Love it starts first pull everytime still I take good care of it
I remember when I was a plant mechanic in the UK putting labels on the machines saying
"Life with oil 20000 hours - life without oil 20 seconds!"
LOL. Isn't that the truth!👍👍
Just changed my mower oil. Briggs & Stratton 500e 140cc. Thanks 😊
Not going to lie. In 30 years I have never done a lawn mower oil change 😂😂😂. Whoops,😅😅😅
💀💀💀
Guilty✋
That's fine, as long as your mower still works. Most people are here because their machines are not working and need to solve a problem.
DUDE, seriously!?! (Not judging)
I just really like this mower…oil change route I go
Stupid question: it doesn’t affect the mower turning it side ways??
Good job my friend. I never knew there was a drain plug under the deck. I have only ever turned it on the side. Going to do it today and look for that drain plug.
I changed the oil on my lawn mower. She needed it bad. But lawn looks fantastic
Can you use a turkey baster? I'm serious. I don't want to buy a pump but don't want to turn it over because it's full of fuel.
You could as long as you get most of the oil out.
Wish me luck,I can safely say I never changed the oil on my Briggs and Stratton motor, 20 years luckily for me I have a small yard. Wish me luck.
Thumbs up, I enjoyed the wind chimes!!

For a better drain, do you suggest having the engine and oil warmed up?
Wow.... oops, We have never change oil in our mowers. Interesting! Thanks!

Hi there! Any advice on removing a small piece of plastic that fell into the oil reservoir of a push mower? Thanks!
Can u make a video replacing the throttle cable on the push mower briggs and stratton. The cable to my red bar snap
You talk roo much. Jeez

What kind of oil do you use 5w 30 motor oil synthetic or regular

Was that a bird your dog brought you ?
Changed my oil yesterday
You don't have to worry about the gas in its tank when you are tipping the mower?
My lawn mower manual said to run the mower until it stop. The gas should be gone by then. Can't say if that is the right way but I did this several times.
I just lay my mower sideways and the oil just drains out where you fill it
Yes, I make some Oil Drain Tubes just for that purpose.
Love the dog in the background.
Muchas Gracias Amigo, Dios te

Thank you sir for making this video 👍🏽👍🏽
Option 2,good idea
Yeah I would never do it again. Fucked up my airfilter and all doing that. It’s funny how he even says. “Oh look it’s coming out the exhaust!” It ain’t supposed to do that at all😂
3:00 Amen I learned that the hard way

I'm gonna keep looking in the comments. But what about the gas?Does that not leak out when you turn it on the side to drain the oil?
There is a gas shutoff valve usually that you can close to prevent spilling
Thank you
👍👍
Thanks.
You're welcome
Great video. Thanks
always tilt a lawnmower with the air filter up, not the way u did in the begining when u had the oil pan under the mower
I cut my grass, get the engine, and oil, nice and warm, then use my vacuum pump at the end of the year.
While your there, new sparkplug and air filter.
👍👍
Super Video thanks for making it
What type of oil does it take ? Can 5w 30 regular motor oil be used to fill it up again ?
I usually use 10w30 or 30w
Thanks for vid
You bet👍👍
How about a video for a Briggs & Stratton engine without a drain plug?
Did you not watch the video? He shows you 3 ways to drain them and the other two would apply to your question
What kind of oil do you use?
10W 30
Is any of the 3 methods shown better?
Personally, I like tipping the mower and using a drain tube. Quick, clean, and easy.👍
Do I have to drain the gas tank first?
I don't, unless it is a full tank.
If it is? I have to?
@@jamesmixemong9857 Just keep the carburetor in the up position.

I didnt know ,you need to change oil push mower.
My oil is ok from way i t looks but needs changed now the mower broke in.
👍👍
Remove the spark plug wire for safety
carburetor has to be side up when tilting mower as you wrongly illustrate
I’m trying to refill the oil on it and I don’t know what hole to put it in😢

Put a plastic bag under the gas cap and screw it tight. It'll keep it from leaking while you change the oil
I would change the oil when you store your mower for winter.
That way your engine has nice fresh oil and you take out all contaminated oil which could damage your engine during layup.
Nah just wait til the spring. It might even be good for a few years.
Lawn Mowers need oil ?
No shit
😅🤣😜
Cooking oil works
24oz 30w
Not if they already have some
What oil to I put in?
Either full synthetic 5w-30, conventional or synthetic 10w-30, or SAE 30. I use full synthetic 5w30 and my lawn mower is way easier to start and burns less oil.
30w or 40w
Any oil that says "30" will work just fine.
Why do you like front wheel drive I hate em
So no one wants to talk about the 20 screws he has in the one tire?😂
Hey optio 2 bad idea damage engine
No it won't. Been doing it that way for 8 years
I like motorboat 🚤
I checked and the oil was nasty. Put in Synthetic 0-20. Might change in the fall to get the old sludge out. Hey these beasts are expensive, oil is not.
Pretty good young lady.

I made this mistake when I removed my blade. Now here I am learning how to unf@#$ the problems I caused.
Why they make it so you need to disassemble half of the lawnmower to access the oils drain plug is ridiculous. That’s some BMW level BS
BRIGGS AND sTRATTON are a bloody disgrace, NO DRAIN PLUG no wonder Honda have won the market
