    This was great advice, i have never pulled apart any type of engine or carb before, followed the step by step instructions from the video and started stripping my lawn mower that has not run for 4 years. Didnt know what i was doing but carried on regardless, i had nothing to loose because i went out and got a new lawn mower 4 years ago. Anyway stripped it down, cleaned it up, changed the oil, sharpened the blade, put it all back together. Waited for 5 mins then desided to pull the cord. To my amazement and joy it started first time. I now have two lawn mowers. Thank you for your great step by step instructions. I also didnt need to get a new gasket, old one worked just fine. Top job

    Excellent Job Mower Man easy to follow your instructions , just picked up a 2002 Murray Briggs 3.5 Classic, cut a lot of grass. A kid and his dad bought it for $10 and flipped it to me for $35. It runs and cuts grass very well I might add, lol. Thanks and best with your repairs.

    Hi, big thumbs up! Just bought one today based on your video thinking I can fix a broken one. Rusted cable in the sleeve, rusted and stuck flywheel brake, no spark in plug, carb springs disconnected etc. All good now and runs great! Was well worth the £20 and with the lockdown it was 2 hours well spent.

    It’s always wise on every service of these classic engines to replace the gasket and diaphragm regardless if are they are running fine , they are dirt cheap and they are the main thing that goes wrong on these. I sold a mower once was running fine the person contacted me that it wasn’t running right, I picked it up new D&G job done, from that day I always fit a new one. Also when I service a mower in the main I clean the carb, because the mowers can be running ok but there can be muck in the bottom of the tank or bowl. Better safe than sorry🙂👍

    • @vtbn53
      @vtbn53 5 лет назад +1

      Your comment is the kind I dislike the most, it makes assumptions that just a little bit of research would refute:
      a) They are NOT dirt cheap.
      b) They are NOT readily available which makes them even more expensive.
      ...and yes I realise for service centres this is NOT the case, but I am not a service centre except for my own mower.

    Ha, got a 40 (seems very similar to the 35) noticed that fuel tank was wobbling about. Had same problem. Front bolt had worked loose and gone missing and rear bolt as just hanging on. Tightened rear bolt which seems okay for the time being but would like to get a replacement front bolt to be safe. Trouble is I’m not a lawn mower repair bloke and don’t have a drawer full of spare bits! Any idea on a suitable replacement or where I can source one from? No idea what part number it would be…cheers

    Some years ago I bought a S/H Lawn King for £20, The fella said it was ready for a service but I thought i'd try it first, I got half the lawn done when I made a strange noise, I let go of the bar but it stopped dead, Siezed!, There was no oil in it! 😬
    I let it cool down for ten mins and put some oil in and tried pulling it over, Wouldn't move, Gave it half an hour and tried again and it pulled with a bit of force so I pumped the purge and blow me! It started first pull but with a puff of blue smoke!
    Every time I use it now there's a puff of burning oil smoke but it always starts first or srecond pull!!
    Seems these little four strokes are bullet proof!! 👍😎😎

    Hi. Loving your videos. One thing I cannot get my head around is:-
    At 6:34 in your video, the is a hole left of dead centre of the screen in the recoil casing. My Champion R434 has a clamp screwed in there as if for a stiff throttle cable to adjust choke, max, slow and stop.
    Obviously the stop on these engines is the brake mechanism.
    But I have not found ONE video online which shows a throttle cable connected so my question is how is the choke regulated? The control bracket has THREE distinct positions but they never seem to have a throttle connected!!!
    Am I missing something? Been given this mower by a mate, a few years ago and thought it was about I got it up and running.
    Perhaps it is simply that they are designed to run at max revs and rely on the governor springs alone?

    • @MowerMan
      @MowerMan  Год назад +1

      The throttle does very very little if anything on these engines that's why they are never connected. Most people just set it full and bend the tab down. It's a flat head engine without overhead valves so you don't get that accuracy via a throttle cable also the carb is much more basic.

    • @rogerwiddowson2145
      @rogerwiddowson2145 Год назад

      @@MowerMan Thanks for the prompt response.
      It started first time with a clean of the armature, flywheel and spark plug lead connector which was quite corroded. Got a dremel in there with a steel brush on and a flap wheel for the armature.
      Really VERY smoky on start-up but I had squirted some PlusGas into the cylinder thinking the rings were seized.
      Then realised there was a flywheel brake. 🤦🏻
      When I revved it up, it must have been doing 6000-7000 rpm!! Obviously didn’t hold it there for long. I suppose max revs for these is 3600rpm.
      There doesn’t seem to be much that can go wrong with these small engines. I can see why you like them.
      So basically all I need to do is get some springs installed and then set the throttle to the highest speed by bending the tang.
      I have limited experience with small engines but these seem so simple in terms of carburation.
      I have a Titan strimmer which constantly requires attention and is a nightmare quality wise.

    Hi Paul! Thanks for the informative video, its really helpful! I have the exact mower and I am going to service it this summer, it has always been a pain to start up and get going (even after being serviced by a company!) However once its warm and been running for a few minutes it starts so effortlessly. Any thoughts on this mate?
    It does on occasion rev high and low which you may suggest the diaphragm and gasket may need replacing, it is intermittent though but for the sake of a few quid ill change it.
    These engines are work horses and dont stop! Thanks again for the great videos! :D

      @@MowerMan Hi Paul, I finally figured out why my mower is a nightmare to start first time. The primer bulb was working and sucking fuel up but it was not squirting it out, it was all in the bulb and backing up in the tube into the thank. Once i got the primer bulb off I could see a very small bearing in the carb that looked like the route the fuel should squirt through, so i gave it a bit of a nudge with a fine needle to loosen it up and job done!! Primer bulb back on and it then started sending the fuel through, I imagine this bearing got seized up somehow?, Have you ever had this issue in your time working on these mowers?
      Prior to me finding out the cause, the mower had alot of TLC including new diaphragm and gasket, front head gasket, inlet and exhaust vales cleaned out of carbon, crankshaft inspection, blade sharpen, oil change, filter, spark plug and a good old clean. She looks brand new and runs like a dream :D. Thanks again paul!

    Hi, I need to replace the starter rope on my Mountfield Classic 35. Can you tell me the part number for the original replacement? Do you have a video of how to replace this part. I know how to do it and the rope has not broken so will be a straight forward fix. Just wanted to see how you do it, if there's an easier way. I would normally pull the old rope all the way out and then lock the sprig in place with a screwdriver whilst I change the rope and then let it unwind back in, slowly! :)
