This band is so underrated. You should be reacting to whole albums by these guys

Josh Homme is a musical freaking genius, plain and simple.
I would listen to him play a dead rat and a small gourd.

I believe the drummer is Gene Trautmann, but on the Rated R sessions they also employed a drummer named Nick Lucero from the group The Flys. They each played on about half the record, and at one point it was even considered having them both play live. There's some promo photos out there. It definitely wasn't Dave, he didn't show up until Songs for the Deaf replacing Gene, but you can still hear him on Go With the Flow and You Think I Ain't Worth Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire.

Wow I'm a huge fan of the first 3 albums (and other early tracks like this one) but I didn't know that stuff about the consideration of having the both drummers play live.

Matt Cameron played in the first Gamma Ray ( before they named Queens Of The Stone Age) and played the first shows with his partner in Wellwater Conspiracy, John McBain ( you must to check Wellwater Conspiracy, Psychedelic 60's garage rock ) . Also Alfredo Hernandez played in the first demos .
But you are listening here a rerecording of the song with several changes, like the heavy bass , and I think is Gene Trautman playing here . Remember this is another version of the song , not the original played in 97

One of my favourite current groups. Every drummer who’s played with them is fantastic, although Grohl is one of my favourites. (Especially love his drumming in Them Crooked Vultures.) As a bassist, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret is one of my favourite tracks to play.

Near as I have been able to find out, it may have been Matt Cameron. The EP lists Vic Indrizzo. On the b-side version, Nick Lucero. But Grohl was hanging around with them from late Kyuss to Songs for the Deaf.

As a drummer having been Inspired at 10 by Grohls drumming on the song Drain You to start playing and have been following his drumming on everything he plays on, this is Dave’s style 100% he typically plays similarly with most projects he drums on he is known for his power stripped down back n forth snare tom snare tom fills keeping the beat pumping with the constant bass and he’s definitely the king of hard flams don’t really know how else to explain how I see his style. Maybe if everyone interested listens to the song Isabella Grohl played drums on for buzz’s solo ep it might make it clear what I mean.

I prefer the first recording of this song to this version (even though it's way more lofi), at least as far as the first two parts of the song go. This is still awesome though.

This was the version that came out as a B Side too Lullabies to Paralyze. This tries to sound edgier. I like the last part of this, and everything else on the first version of this song, that sounds more chill than this.

There are two different versions with two different drummer, first one as Gamma Ray with Gene Trautman:
    m.ruclips.net/video/L6ie_8ZDi5A/видео.html&pp=ygUWYm9ybiB0byBodWxhIGdhbW1hIHJheQ%3D%3D
This one here is with Alfredo Hernandéz on the drums, he left the band very earlier after they went in the studio for recording Rated R, because of disagreements with Josh!
So 2 or 3 songs on the Rated R record are still recorded with Alfredo on the drums and then Gene Trautman taking over!

  • @buzzbomb67
    @buzzbomb67 11 месяцев назад +1

Ya, I kinda thought youd done Song For The Dead, but I couldnt remember for sure.
I didn’t mention the drummer because I couldnt identify who it was, either haha BUT, I agree, it DOES kinda sound Dave Grohlish. The earlier version, the beat was there, but the fill wasnt. Also pretty cool, but not quite as interesting. That version was 1&2&1-2-3-4, where this is more like a 1&2&12345678 count
I almost requested on old Carpenters video, so you could do Karen Carpenter’s jazz drumming. She was really good!!
Anyway, yes, your assessment was exactly my thought, as well. Knew you would love it!
Ps frankly, I often think lo-fi sounds better. :)
PPS on some live versions, the middle part speeds up radically over the latter part of that section, then drops back down for the final section.
