He wasn't fired because of his vocals, it was his drug use.. and if Paul remained in the band do you really think lloĵsurvived this long? Definitely not.. look at Paul now, maiden would have ended by early 90s and even then they would have never produced the albums they did with Bruce. You can't look at Paul from the first 2 albums and think he would have been great on NOTB, he couldn't perform live well at gigs, he was a mess, he suited maiden in the late 70s but he definitely wasn't a late 80s metal frontman, Paul needed to go, if he was that good they would have brought him back instead of getting blaze.

Wait--Paul Di'Anno was fired by Steve Harris because he "began to disapprove" his vocals??? What does that even mean? I have NEVER heard that before. I've have always heard it was due to substance abuse.

  • @gilbertocruz1683

Paul Dianno agrees today that Harris needed to fire him because of his too heavy partying and lack of responsibility...the band had gotten very successful and demands got really crazy in 1981... Maiden is still going today because Harris is a unstoppable working machine

In my opinion, as a psychologist..after the SoundHouse Tapes and his departure in 1981, he was in real pain. Look the change gesture on his face. He was in pain. He couldnt face the presion and the responsabilities on the big scene. That leads to the drug abuse.

Its To bad in away , and I am sure he would even admit this himself. He became more into living the lifestyle than the music. And Bruce was proved that he deserved to be the bands new front man. If Paul had stayed clean who knows what kind of beast Maiden would have become. Because he could sure sing.

... I will always think of Paul when I think of Iron Maiden... I was pre-teen and just started getting into music... The first time I heard Maiden I was hooked!!... Many nights drinking beer in the woods with friends beside a nice fire and cranking Iron Maiden 👍... Around the very early 1990s a dude I worked with was in a band and invited me to come see his band play at a small club in Sailsbury, Massachusettes... I only found out when I got there that his band was opening for Paul D’Anno !!... The name of Paul’s band at the time was something like Paul D’Annos’ Killers, or something close to that... They were absolutely fuggn awesome and sounded great!!!.. I got to meet everyone in both bands after the show and hang out and party for a little bit...I can’t begin to say how awesome it was to get to see him in a small venue, and to then hang out after the show, with someone who I admired so much growing up and had such a big influence on me with music, and who’s music help drive me... I still get pumped thinking about that night... My Buddy that invited me knew I was a huge Maiden fan and also knew I’d be more than excited about seeing and meeting Paul and the band... He purposefully never mentioned anything about it... Man do I miss those years of my life... I wouldn’t change any of it... Hot chicks, muscle cars, and Iron Maiden👍... He did play many Maiden songs, if not every song from Killers... I remember it felt like living in a dream or didn’t even seem real at certain times during that night... I would not trade any of it for anything....

I am a fan of his various solo bands. I think he was basically throwing everything against the wall to see what would stick though. You had the more radio friendly 80’s commercial rock. Then the heavier stuff with battle zone and the killers band. He had an album that sounded like Pantera. He then went to more traditional style of metal. He must’ve recorded the same Maiden songs and battlezone songs a zillion times. He just was never able to reach the level of grabbing those large audience of fans. That said, I dig his music and have every studio album he ever put out and most of his live albums and I enjoy it
