Hearing about Paul Di'anno yesterday was actually the most sad I've ever been about any musician. Songs like The Trooper or Aces High are what brought me into the band but Paul Di'Anno's first two albums are the ones that have kept me constantly listening to this band today. I was already listening to the song Killers (my favourite maiden song) when I heard about the news. I only got to see Paul once in 2023 when he toured with KKs Priest. Honestly fair play for performing until the very end. RIP Legend

He wasn't fired because of his vocals, it was his drug use.. and if Paul remained in the band do you really think lloĵsurvived this long? Definitely not.. look at Paul now, maiden would have ended by early 90s and even then they would have never produced the albums they did with Bruce. You can't look at Paul from the first 2 albums and think he would have been great on NOTB, he couldn't perform live well at gigs, he was a mess, he suited maiden in the late 70s but he definitely wasn't a late 80s metal frontman, Paul needed to go, if he was that good they would have brought him back instead of getting blaze.

Gotta say... I always heard Maiden replaced him because they wanted a singer with a greater range (like Halford). There was this perception that they couldn’t break through to the next level with Di’Anno... but it’s not like this guy couldn’t belt it out. Sure, very different vibe from Dickinson but still a very capable vocalist. Always liked him but he gets dumped on

    • @Toasty667

He did invite the criticism he got. He continued to insult Maiden but kept singing their songs. That is hypocritical. Benefit fraud is basically stealing from the tax payer. I don't think Maiden could have gone very far with him with his lack of skills compared to Dickinson and his drug habbits tbh. I love the first 2 albums and his Nomad album but he had to go and deserves the rep he gets, good and bad.

Paul voice did get better in the late 80s he gained more range but through the yrs pauls struggled with addiction and he's really been able to gain any traction in his career him and Bruce although different in they're styles truly made maiden unique from other metal bands steve Harris is the heart soul of maiden though all the guys in maiden seem very decent and down to earth id tilt slightly toward dianno as best frontman but Bruce is the one who took them to the top and paul has had his ups downs

I don't care what anyone says. He had a killer voice for lack of a better word. His Maiden stuff was great and so was his solo and side band projects. Bruce was different and great in his own right, but I honestly prefer Di'Anno.

I met Paul in 2007. During a gig in Costa Rica. We share a couple of drinks before the show! It was nice to me, a little bit bitter, but it was nice. We all make mistakes, that's for sure! Yet, im not feel bad for the guy, but i hope that he can find some little inner peace!

He was great on the first 2 Maiden's LP's. I like very much his style. I think that after IM he could have done so much more and better than what he actually did in the 80' and 90's, but somehow the man has never been able to stay in the A list, so to speak.

Its To bad in away , and I am sure he would even admit this himself. He became more into living the lifestyle than the music. And Bruce was proved that he deserved to be the bands new front man. If Paul had stayed clean who knows what kind of beast Maiden would have become. Because he could sure sing.

... I will always think of Paul when I think of Iron Maiden... I was pre-teen and just started getting into music... The first time I heard Maiden I was hooked!!... Many nights drinking beer in the woods with friends beside a nice fire and cranking Iron Maiden 👍... Around the very early 1990s a dude I worked with was in a band and invited me to come see his band play at a small club in Sailsbury, Massachusettes... I only found out when I got there that his band was opening for Paul D’Anno !!... The name of Paul’s band at the time was something like Paul D’Annos’ Killers, or something close to that... They were absolutely fuggn awesome and sounded great!!!.. I got to meet everyone in both bands after the show and hang out and party for a little bit...I can’t begin to say how awesome it was to get to see him in a small venue, and to then hang out after the show, with someone who I admired so much growing up and had such a big influence on me with music, and who’s music help drive me... I still get pumped thinking about that night... My Buddy that invited me knew I was a huge Maiden fan and also knew I’d be more than excited about seeing and meeting Paul and the band... He purposefully never mentioned anything about it... Man do I miss those years of my life... I wouldn’t change any of it... Hot chicks, muscle cars, and Iron Maiden👍... He did play many Maiden songs, if not every song from Killers... I remember it felt like living in a dream or didn’t even seem real at certain times during that night... I would not trade any of it for anything....

In my opinion, as a psychologist..after the SoundHouse Tapes and his departure in 1981, he was in real pain. Look the change gesture on his face. He was in pain. He couldnt face the presion and the responsabilities on the big scene. That leads to the drug abuse.
