  • On Dec. 10, 1967, a twin-engine Beechcraft carrying Otis Redding crashed into Lake Monona in Madison, killing Redding and four members of his touring band, the Bar-Kays. Otis Redding was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. Shortly before his death, he wrote and recorded “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay with Steve Cropper. News Footage: WKOW/Wisconsin Historical Society owns the rights to the footage.

I love a lot of 60s and 70s soul music, with Otis Redding being at the top of the list. This is both captivating and heartbreaking. Janis Joplin went with friends to see Otis one night, after taking LSD. She watched his every movement, and they say she took on many of his characteristics afterward. I can hear it, as strange as it sounds. He was really taken to soon. Even Jim Morrison mentioned him in a song. RIP Otis- You were the greatest performer of your era.

I've watched many historys of different Greats, including those that we've lost and it's an interesting sidebar, that the Bee Gees wrote a song a few months prior to his accident, to record I believe. It was a Blues tune called....(... Lord let me remember correctly),...Saturday Night Fever. As it turned out it ended up in the movies... ushering in Disco! The Bee Gees had never even heard of disco at the time, but they got blamed for it or accredited for it I should say.
I sure would have loved to hear Otis Reddings' version in the style that, only he could've done. ✌😎👍

They claim they didn't find Otis Redding until days later of finding all the other people in the plane crash I don't believe that's true he was a young black man that was making his own money and started his own music company making his own albums pushing out the middleman that was not going to go down well. I personally believe he survived the crash and I've seen pictures of him where he's beat to death sitting in an airplane seat still strapped in and they say that's how they found him. It's just awful funny how entertainers die in plane crashes. Patsy Cline Buddy Holly the Big bopper Ritchie Valens Kobe Bryant just to name a few. I think they were very well staged and planned events because the celebrities started doing things their way

Otis, Sam Cooke, aretha, ray Charles , etc etc all harken to a time when singers actually wrote their own music and didn’t have 10 other co-writers and only got signed for their looks and how provocative they could be. Music today for the most part lacks talent. The just talented new singer I’ve heard in the last couple years is Jon batiste
