Makes me cry watching this knowing he was taken from the world less than a day later😪This great beautiful man (along with sam Cooke) is one of the most emotive passionate raw singers to ever grace this planet...I feel deeply sad his life was cut so short but man oh man what a legacy he left we can only imagine how much more he had to give but I feel so privileged to truly understand what it means to sing with "soul" thanks to Otis and Sam..your music will live on forever thank you for the music ❤️❤️❤️❤️
A lot of great musicians from that era went out that way, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jim Croce come to mind when I think about it 💔 It really is heartbreaking cause so many musicians and singers from back then seemed so authentic, like real people who just happen to be famous, and their music had more soul to it.

There are only a few modern bands or songs that give me the same feelings as the old school. I don't think we'll get another era like the 60's/70's, where so many talented musicians influenced so many genres of music, but count your blessings that you have the ear to listen to and appreciate music like this 😌

I got to see him in Birmingham Alabama in the summer of 1967. He played at the Municipal Auditorium and that concert changed my life. I still get emotional when I hear his songs.
I still live in the Madison, WI area and grew up not far from where his plane crashed. Years later, my late husband and I used to take our boat through this area. Even then, the reality of Redding's death and the other band members didn't hit me as hard as it does now watching this incredible performance. RIP to all who sadly perished that day. Such amazing talent...
The bassist on the left took a different flight that night and had to ID his friends. Guy on the trumpet 🎺 was the only survivor of the crash that took this amazing group of talent from us. RIP.
The bassist is James Alexander he is Hip Hop and R&B producer Jazze Pha's father. Jazze Pha (Phalon Alexander) was named after Phalon Jones the Bar-Kays saxophonist in this video who died along with Otis who was James Alexander's good friend. ✌🏽

From what I knew about the plane crash, Ben Cauley the drummer in the band, was the only survivor of the plane crash that killed Otis Redding. He was interviewed on the TV show Inside Edition and talked about the crash many years ago. After the plane crashed Ben said he heard some band members screaming for help while they were in the water He was rescued while the other band members drowned. The body of Otis Redding was recovered a few days later.
Used to ride around in Harlem with my dad and my uncle. Mom said I’d come home singing all of his songs!! Said the whole community was devastated when he lost his life!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

He’d call (one) “wife”. Then guys who didn’t have any body to call would call another one of his “wives”’for him, and he’d be on the phone a long time calling different “wives. “ I was in there 2 weeks. It was the old jail on Pearl St. .It was like a dungeon. We didn’t see daylight unless we went to court. 🙀🙀 Anyway, he was a great guy! 😎😎😎

James Brown warned him because of the bad weather, but Otis was too loyal to his fans in Wisconsin. That loyalty sadly resulted in his tragic death in a plane crash. James told him "That plane is not big enough to be doing what you’re doing. It can’t carry all those people and all that equipment. You shouldn’t be messing around with it like that." Otis said "Aw, it’s all right Bossman. We’ve had a few problems, but it’s doing okay." James later went on to say in his memoirs that "Somebody was fooling Otis… That plane was an old plane, with a bad battery and a lot of service problems, and it had no business flying in that kind of weather."

This was actually his penultimate performance. They filmed this television segment in the early afternoon and then did a gig later that night. The plane accident was the next day. Rick Nielson, the guitarist from Cheap Trick, was in a band at the time (coincidentally named The Grim Reapers) that was slated to open up for Otis the night of the accident.
Just hours after this performance, Otis, Jimmie King (guitar), Ronnie Caldwell (organ), Phalon Jones (saxophone), and Carl Cunningham (drums) would all be dead. The bass player was the only one not on that plane. The trumpet player was the only survivor of the crash.

You are correct. Trumpeter Ben Cauley survived the crash, but he died in 2015. Don't know if the bass player is still alive.
