I have played with Ben. Shortly before he passed. Gene Mason and Ben Ran together. He never got over the Crash. He relived it thousands of times. After playing the show at Graceland I was ask by Gene to come with him he had some People that wanted to meet me. Ben and Willie "to tall" Hall of the Blues Bro. were standing there and he sad, "Man You Are A Cat." I thanked him and he said, That Hat you got on Means something here in Memphis. It was a Derby Hat and he went on to say it means your a Musician and a Cat. Willie and us all had our pictures made together. I did play with him. Then at Graceland he made a special trip back to Elvis week to see us not long before he died. I ask one of the kids where he was and he had to leave. He was ill and had to leave early so I missed him. When Ben passed I think it was Shuronda that called. I was torn up. Ben Cauley was a Graceful, Humble Good Man. He played and sang and was a Giant. Ben, Gene Mason and Willie are Execellent musicians. BUT Ben and Gene are Down to Earth Good Men. Willie is to and I think still playing drums. Ben's Family are a tribute to his life. It is rare when we meet Giants. Sometimes we don't realize just who they are. I Will Never Forget The Shows That Year and Playing with Ben. I did all I could to get him in the hall of fame. What a great gift GOD Blessed Me With. Miss you and Gene Ben. Thank You Guys For Your Friendship. Just one Kat to another my friends..ron t.
Yes, Ben often spoke about the Crash. Ben was a fantastic musician. But, that plane killed the original Barkays and Scared Ben for life. He has one of the finest families anyone could have. Last I heard his Grandson has picked up the Trumpet. I tried to get the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame to pick up Ben. The guy that is responsible for it had Chambers music where I bought Amplifiers and Guitars. I assume they did. I think one of his trumpets is at STAX. Ben was a great musician but more than that he loved his family and they loved his deeply. Ben and Gene Masons family called me the next morning after each passed away. Yes, the stories and times about Elvis and Gene and Ben are fascinating. Some will remain with me others I share because of the Character and friendship we had. Ben and Gene live on in memories and their families. Good people and friends. Willie "To Big" the Drummer in Blues Brothers Two ran with me as well. Music builds bridges and friendships for life.
Pardon me, but this story needs to be redone without the horrible background music and the robot like narrator, it's disrespectful to such icons. Please, somebody do justice to these men. Rest their Soul Finger souls, Otis as well of course.

After the shows we all went to Steak n Shack and other places and talked and hung out till late late. We did many shows at Graceland and others all around. I may post sometime the songs he sang as well. But, the "My Girl" karaoke is one of my favorites at the old Wise Guys Pizza place was one of my favorites. I want to express to you these Men Ben and Gene were good men and family men. It shows in their children and grand babies. Good kids and they are performed too. Time changes all and remember the times you live are special. You may not know it at the time but, you may be in the presents of legends and in an instant gone. The joy of music can change a person and bring together friendships for life. Not much money for most but GOD pays us in various way with things money cannot buy.
