Great video as always Jim! I've been debating about putting an ESC fan on my eFlite Turbo Timber to keep the ESC and Motor running cooler. After 6 mins on a 4s pack it gets a little toasty. I've seen some port jobs online ,on the front fuselage to let air in but don't think I'm ready to cut into it yet 😂😂.

I have a Bandit vxl and when running it on 3s, it gets hot, so I got a fan on the esc and it helps it stay cool. I did buy a Traxxas fan, but the Hot Racing fan may be better.
Yes sir... the Vxl 3s system definitely gets warm on 3s 😄 lol and a fan is definitely needed. As far as which fan is better; 🤔? Well that's debatable...🙄 Their both about the same "as far as overall quality" But my thoughts behind the "Hot Racing fan, is that at least it has a nice aluminum fan mount, And if the fan decides to crap out, I can simply replace the fan itself, with another fan of higher quality, and bolt it back in to the Hot Racing fan mount.😊 The Traxxas fan on the other hand, is more of a throw away item after it decides to stop working, "since the fan, and mount, are molded together.😕 But both fans are about the same overall quality 🤔 "which isn't necessarily the best" 😄 lol but... Having said that, I haven't had to replace either one of them yet, and I've had them for a couple of years now,😕 Both fans are currently having problems with starting up, but it's easily fixable or at least "usable" if you just give the fan a little start up spin with your finger, "kinda like starting an old airplane! 😂 Lol As for the fan blades;🤔 I've heard all kinds of stories "about both fans having problems with breaking blades, but I haven't had any blade problems with either one of them.😊 The Hot Racing fan is only better than the Traxxas fan, "because of it's reusable Aluminum fan mount" otherwise their both about the same as far as overall quality.😕👍

I got knock offs of these from China, they work great and have edges chamfered which looks nicer. Also the cheapo ones came with a garbage plastic fan which I replaced with integy scoop and Jconcepts aluminum fan.
Thanks for your kindness FL.. 😁👍 And the fan blades are plastic.😕 But the mounts are aluminum, and it gives you the ability to run a completely different brand fan on it "if you wanted to" 😁👌 As for the Fan itself; The Hot racing fan works great for the first five or six batteries, and then it starts needing a jumpstart every once and awhile,😕 "Via a quick spin with your finger" But otherwise I haven't had any other problems with them, And I currently own 4 of those Hot Racing fan setups,😂 lol Never had a problem with the blades breaking off, but I do have to give the fan a spin, from time to time on the initial startup, But otherwise no issues.😊👍

E-Maxx ate up my entire day,😂 lol (Two previously owned RC's) and the previous owners weren't very nice to them,🙄 lol or at least... they didn't exactly keep up on repairs.😂 lol Nero consisted of a Re'wiring & Soldiering SNAFU, and the E-Maxx consisted of Missing screws,Bent screws, Screws with no head left on them,Bent front left CVD shaft, and a Bent rear wheel Tie Rod.🤔 Total mess! 😕😄 Lol But I suppose that's all part of the Fun. 😂 Both trucks are currently back up to Full Spec, maybe even a little bit better.😁👍
That's a good question...🤔 I'm pretty sure that you don't have to remove the esc in order to install it, It's a pretty tight space to work in, but I'm almost certain that the fan can be installed without removing the esc. 😊👍

It's been fine, or at least it was fine for awhile, 3s didn't or "doesn't, seem to bother it a bit.😕 The only problem that I've experienced with these fans, is that after awhile, they start having issues with getting up to full speed,🤔 And generally I just give the fan a quick spin with my finger, and it immediately goes back to full speed, and once it's spinning at full speed again,it will keep working normally for the rest of that battery pack.😕 I or "we" currently have four of these fans in operation on four different vehicles, Two are on Traxxas Slashes, and the other two are on a Vaterra Ascender K10 with trx4 portal axles and a Vxl 3s system, and the other is on a K5 Blazer Ascender with the exact same setup, "My K10 Ascender, has the oldest hot racing fan in it out of all of our vehicles, and that's the one that I have to do the quick finger spin with.😄 The moral of the story is, That they work good for awhile, and then they require a little finger spin to get up to speed. 2s & 3s doesn't seem to make a difference with them, "as far as I can remember, they run at the same speed on either voltage, but they seem to like 3s better.🤔😕 "but don't quote me on it" Their pretty good fans for the price, but after awhile, you might want to get a higher quality fan as a replacement, and simply mount it to the Hot Racing fan bracket.😁👍 Which is my plan in the future,😄 not sure on what fan to get, but I've kinda been looking at one made by Protek, it looks solid, "but just like you, I wonder about it's quality.😄 lol The Hot Racing fan isn't bad, "I forgot to mention that we also have a Traxxas vxl fan, and it's kind of a piece of crap, and the fan & mounting bracket are molded together, 😕 at least with the Hot Racing fan you get a decent aluminum mounting bracket, that can also be used with a different fan "at a later date" if need be.😁

I mean you must have really been beating the crap out of your vehicle for that to happen,😕 I've beat the absolute crap out of my Losi Ten SCTE 3.0 with that exact same system in it, and mine is still holding up great, And I've even landed it upside down after jumping a forty foot gap, and the esc & fan were still fine. 😕 So either you got yourself a badly made ESC from Traxxas, or you must have been beating on your truck pretty bad.😕 Either way that sucks, and I'm sorry for the misfortune brother.😞
@@R.C.A.D.nothing too crazy. 2wd rustler on 3s and a 2’ homemade ramp landing on grass. Few backflips. The esc didn’t get too hot, Becasue yea, that fan is GREAT. Traxxas electronics are hit or miss in my experience. They either last forever or break/burn up right away. I sent it in and it arrives to them today. Anxious to see what they say. I got the 4s outcast last weekend and I’m never looking back. I’m gonna let the wife drive the ol’ rustler from now on, on %50 setting lol. Thx for writing me back bro
But when it did pop off, I landed from about 7’ and exactly square down on to the top upside down. Straight down. No slide, just square down upside down lol. I was going for the double flip. It didn’t pop all the way out of the esc, it was still in the casing, just fully detached and jiggling. When I popped open the case I saw it came loose. There are three stripes of white thermal glue that failed. I was just pushing it harder than that car was built for.
If you are installing it on a Traxxas Slash.. Then the answer is Yes 😊 Or at least remove all of the ESC's Hold down screws, so you have the ability to move things around a little bit, without actually removing the ESC from the vehicle itself.😁👍 I recently installed one on my Neices Traxxas Slash, and that's exactly how I went about installing the Fan.😊 Thanks for your great question, and for taking the time to check out the video my friend. 🙂🤜🤛

You will be replacing that fan in a short time they break very easily, upgrade to a metal one and get a protector. I only bought that for the bracket

But when it did pop off, I landed from about 7’ and exactly square down on to the top upside down. Straight down. No slide, just square down upside down lol. I was going for the double flip. It didn’t pop all the way out of the esc, it was still in the casing, just fully detached and jiggling. When I popped open the case I saw it came loose. There are three stripes of white thermal glue that failed. I was just pushing it harder than that car was built for.
Do you have to take the ESC out of
The car to put it in?
If you are installing it on a Traxxas Slash.. Then the answer is Yes 😊
Or at least remove all of the ESC's Hold down screws, so you have the ability to move things around a little bit, without actually removing the ESC from the vehicle itself.😁👍
I recently installed one on my Neices Traxxas Slash, and that's exactly how I went about installing the Fan.😊
