I think I just found the answer as to why my mini eREVO is a bit slower than my buddies. His is just a bit faster than mine and I now can have an option to see if it can be remedied! This is awesome!
Although this is different than Traxxas suggests as far as traction & slipper clutch set up goes, living in Michigan & running in the snow with paddle tires is so much fun...Wouldn't I want to tighten slipper clutch for snow? You need the wheel spin & power to the tires NOW, you're not looking for traction. Is this thinking correct? Additionally something to consider if having slipper clutch issues, I just encountered this myself & I'm almost certain the problem started a yr ago...Here goes (keep in mind I maintain my RC's every time I run them...complete clean); My neighbors 10 yr old son wanted to drive my slash ultimate 4x4, I told him he had to be very careful & handed him the remote. Before I could set the ESC to training mode I was distracted by his dad coming outside & talking to me. Next thing I realize is the car going wide open up the driveway & by the time I turned to see it & say anything...BAM!!! Complete stop right under front tire of dads parked truck. Cracked chassis, broken steering servo, drive shaft all kinds of bent up & other misc. damage. When I swapped out chassis I of course looked everything over closely, everything with slipper, pinion & differential all spun smoothly & seemed fine. After I put it back together & it was reassembled correctly, it just never had the same "pop" it had before. It wasn't quite as fast & didn't seem as quick off the start. No weird noises. Mesh was fine. I would adjust the slipper a little here & there, nothing would get it running like it did before, it ran maybe 85% of what it did before the accident. I ran it a couple of times in the snow last winter, maybe 2/3 batteries worth & didn't have a chance to run it at all this yr, until a week ago with a buddy that has the same RC. After about 10 minutes it wouldn't hardly move & it wouldn't allow me to tighten slipper at all. Took it home & took the rear apart, all the way down to the differential. Slipper pads looked brand new & everything seemed fine. I finally noticed the bearing in the Spur Gear wasn't all there, the center part that houses the ball bearings was missing & that's when I noticed shrapnel here & there. So I cleaned everything up, removed the outer ring of bearing that was still housed in the Spur Gear, went to Hobby shop & purchased new bearing. Got home, put it back together & adjusted the slipper 3/4 turns out before re-assembly, threw a battery in it & wouldn't hardly move. Slipper was slipping bad & you could smell the pads like when someone smokes a clutch on a real car. I was dumbfounded & of course pissed! I knew I put everything back together correctly. So there I am taking the slipper back out...tightening & loosening the spring nut in my hand didn't seem to be compressing the pads together like it should've...again I'm pissed and confused, it should've worked just fine! When I was about to throw it through the wall, I removed the spring & nut, pulling it back apart & that's when I noticed the problem that I didn't catch earlier. The very center of exploded bearing was between pads & pressure plate not allowing them to compress together. I removed it, adjusted it to 3/4 turns out again, put it back together & she's a flying again!! Moral of the story...when neighbor crashed it & I put back on a new chassis, I think the force of the crash had driven the slipper too hard into that bearing & started the breakdown & I didn't know to look at that when examining the damage. It's the little small things we need to pay the most attention to, details, the Devil is in the details. Sorry for the long story, but had I read something like this while researching my problem, it would've been a huge help and saved me alot of time. If this helps one person, great. If not & you want to tell me to gth...that's cool too. Either way, God Bless...Drive Fast & Take Chances!
If only I saw this comment earlier, pretty much the exact same thing happened to me but I had a traxxas rustler 4x4 VXL, the remote just cut out with me and I was going 78kph with the and yes I know the speed because I have the complete TQI telemetry system installed so I can see the current exact speed, rpm, power/voltage and temperature, but anyway it just completely cut out when I was going at that speed and flew right into a drain, it was a real struggle to get out because it was really wedged in there with the upgraded suspension making it more difficult to take out, there were broken parts everywhere down the drain on the road and on the grass of the owners place, got everything out and all the upgrades I’ve done to it you could quite literally say was money down the drain, but it costed me a bomb, hundreds of dollars so many parts replaced, suspension, cracked wheels, drive shaft, chassis, the whole servo system, the esc turned on and was flashing but didn’t do anything else, the motor had cut wired and it all fell completely apart, 3 out of 4 suspension arms, the cover obviously, front bumper, steering block, just so many parts and probably way more but that’s all the parts I ordered in just the first first receipt and is the only receipt I can find at the moment, yet I have no clue how but the 3s lipo battery I was using I really have absolutely no clue but it still worked after, yet replaced everything spend soooo many hours on it and I had the same problem as you, I tried all kinds of different lipo batteries and even went to nimh but there so weak I found out, so I ended up just going to use it for parts and bought a new one, kinda wish I bought an Xmaxx or a Maxx because I really wanted to but thought if I crash my new one I could use the parts, long story short I just saw your comment and I got soooo scared because I’ve spent so much extra money on it and yet I had the same issue as you, but I now have 2 working traxxas rustlers 4x4 VXL’s with a lot of extra parts, the telemetry was still perfectly fine so I still use that but yeah, you don’t know how much you helped me though, the simplest little thing I should of checked more carefully and closely, thank you so much though I got it working again, I might let my brother use it and race it with me when we’re at the rc track now instead of him using his small slash, I said it a lot already but I really mean it, thank you so much, you’ve helped me heaps getting it working again
I like this story because as a enthusiastic mechanic gearhead I tell similar stories of a frustrating and unique diagnostic troubleshooting and repair.
Thanks Traxxas! Love your products! Hope you all have a great day! I needed this so bad! My bandit vxl is having issues. I’ve learned everything about it. Worked on everything from the chassis/tires up.
When can I tell my slipper clutch is worn out because I'm hearing this squeal every time the car hard accelerated and my slipper plate has these scorch Mark?
For the HCG 4x4 models there should be an access hatch under the chassis to adjust the slipper. Having to remove the whole back end of the truck and then "guess" at your adjustment is really poor engineering on your part Traxxas. I know it's only four screws but it still makes a simple adjustment more complicated and time consuming then it needs to be.
I just Purchased a Traxxas Ruster 4x4 VXL with Traxxas Completer pack with 2S lipo plenty of power. Later will upgrade to 3s but first adjust the slipper clutch after few runs.
To learn the noise, have someone lock both tires with a normal but slightly loose clutch, then floor it for a VERY short period if time, that squeal you hear is the clutch activating.
It works like a locked clutch at that point. Everything will be fine. U get max power. It may break parts like axles, pinion, spur gears. But it’s worth it too me.
how do I know when the slipper pads and the spur gear are centered? I put them back together, trying my best to center, but now I think it's more high pitched under acceleration than before
Love traxxas but I genuinely think they should come up with a much more simple, reliable, user friendly and maintainance free system for their cars, this slipper clutch system they have on the slash, rustler and bandit line ups is waaaay to archaic and messy.
I just got the E revo , nitro conversion , I am trying to set it up with a Spektrum dx5c tx and a 6 ch rx. Not having much luck. What steps should I be taking to connect this up? Thanks
The E-Revo 2.0 doesn't have a slipper clutch. It uses what Traxxas calls the "cush drive". I have no idea why they call it that, but it's funny if you get my reference.
Tightening causes more tire spin because when the slipper is tighter, it can't absorb as much energy from the motor and thus more gets transferred to the wheels
So my slash 4x4 1/10 scale when I accelerate there seems to be a a delay before the car starts to drive and there seems to be missing power and the pinion gear seems to be spinning faster than the car should be moving. Is that a slipper clutch problem
Hey Jake, no you don't, you just need to take the rear end off if you want to access the whole assembly. A simple adjustment is done very easily...go to :35 in the video. Your post was 4 months ago, I'd imagine you've figured that out by now, if not, hope this helps you bud.

So I have been adjusting them this way for almost 10 years. Get it to where I barely can’t slip em by hand. If it’s too tight your car will accelerate without slip. Too loose and car won’t accelerate quickly just slip and motor revs very high. I’ll try the 1/2 3/4 backed off from full tight.
Are the bolts going into aluminum? If so, adding a bit of blue Locktite before installation will hold them in place. If they're going into plastic, you might've stripped out the thread.
Possibly. Another factor to also consider is where you drive. Loose dirt has a lot more "give" than solid concrete and as a result is easier on the driveline.

Traxxas has an upgrade part available to fix that problem, part number 9494. It's a new top shaft assembly with the 22-tooth top gear. It was originally made for the magnum 272R transmission but is also backwards compatible with the standard magnum 272 transmission.
I don’t think that would cause your diff to go out. If your slipper was bad then that means it wasn’t sending power to the trans properly... you might have some other problem bro

Bearings need grease. Pinion and spur gears don’t usually get lube. Ck for lube? if it had it from factory apply as needed.

It's a new top shaft assembly with the 22-tooth top gear. It was originally made for the magnum 272R transmission but is also backwards compatible with the standard magnum 272 transmission.
Just what is need
Thank you for the information!
SO THATS WHY MY DIFF BROKE
I don’t think that would cause your diff to go out. If your slipper was bad then that means it wasn’t sending power to the trans properly... you might have some other problem bro
About God dam time Traxxas lmao
my clutch completely loosens after one run. might need a need one.....
I’m going to say that it sounds like the nut for the clutch has worn out
@@lesmawson7298 the entire clutch assembly was new though. well i fixed it by grinding down the inside of the clutch pad, after finding out that it was actually contacing only like 10% of the clutch gear. works fine now
I've got a bone in my foot
Also the 4wd models... I BARELY tightens it AT ALL take the shaft out and save your time
Not really. I just hold wrench on it and turn the rear wheels
Hi pls reply
Hi
Thank you for watching!
Omg they replied, thank you this video really helped, I got new tires for my Stampede 2wd and it got a lot more grip, therefore breaking both of my driveshafts, so I had to adjust this and it worked, thank you so much 🙏
Can we have nitro content plz
Oh I did not do this at all 😅
they forgot the part where you put on a dust mask so you don’t inhale asbestos particles
Thanks a lot man you pretty much gave me PTSD for the rest of my life
Many.... I think all do
They change the voice again
I do what is recommend and way too lose
I collapse the spring and loosen 1/8 turns to get my desired setup
Traxxas!!!!
Best way to fix anything on a traxxas is throw it in the trash and get a good rc car
Not true
Not true at all.
@@bransonreed9050 over priced junk

First
Totally infuriating! What a joke of a setup
Magnetic clutch way better. These are garbage on purpose.
Which vehicle are you running? Magnetic clutch? Have a link? Thanks.
@@flhandster4395 the one I use it just super downscaled. I watched a bunch of YT and printed a semi durable one. The ones in the vids were way bigger I just made mine smaller.
@@IzzySpeaks But, what do you mean by a magnetic clutch? Which vehicle?
What is supposed to be a fun activity is nothing but an expensive, complicated nightmare of a headache! I don't even want my car anymore. Garbage.
The worst brand possibly buy runs good for a day and something else goes wrong on it better off going with x-ray Parts are made so cheaply
Junk. Junk. Junk.....toy grade lol
And since when did toy grade have a slipper clutch?
@@MixZTitaniumDubstep So your defending their crap...
@@jeffkinsey3801 toy grades are lucky if they have gearing. Traxxas doesn't produce complete crap, but there are better and worse things out there
Bruh do you know what you’re saying?
Bryson Kuhn exactly
So I can adjust with just a wrench without removing it? I have a rustler 4x4 vxl
