Thank you Roger & Adam for your time, knowledge sharing & suggestions/advice. Please ignore the the negative & off the topic comments. 🤘🏻
Thanks a bunch for you support! I want to say we try ignore all the negative comments, but I swear, one day I will type in few comments Roger makes in return....its similar to when Jimmy Carr is calling out a heckler :) LOL
We have been in business for over 15 years and I should admit that probably 99% of all folks out there are pretty cool...and we can totally live with the rest 1%.
Thanks again for being with us and your support!
RC Street Shop No problem...My pleasure! 🤘🏻
I like these guys, no problem for me but... when you put yourself out there doing vid3os or whatever for the consumption of general public at large you open yourself up to criticism, and unfortunately it seems like as time goes on we find the % of losers with no manners or poor manners on purpose grows.
Likewise we are free to berate them.
On a side note I had to stop watching their videos with my kids, they are getting smart enough to catch and understand the sexual innuendos. Again, free speech so I’m ok with that...unless you want to stop that would work too!
Gentleman is singular, gentleMEN is plural.
You just got edified by a norwegian, YOU`RE welcome..
Kids shouldn`t be online, the internet is a terrible place.
And when they understand innuendo`s, they`re old enough to watch it, you should be open about that stuff and not have it be secret or forbidden, it will save them a lot of frustration and lying as time goes by ;)
Same goes for cursing, if it`s forbidden and demonized, it will be attractive and seducing, like with smoking etc..
Unless you want them to keep everything from you as they grow up lol..
just sayin`..
Some uncomfortable conversations are worth having :)
DEFINITE NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE!!!
I bought a Rustler VXL & Bandit XL-5 in 2018. My son & I drove both of them maybe 1 month(too much power for his age). Been in storage since!
Last month, I found em, pulled em both out, and me being a COMPLETE NOVICE, I took both apart as much as I could and detailed/cleaned them up!
After 2nd battery run, the Rustler snapped the pin on the top shaft. Having zero knowledge about RC's I took to local hobby shop & watched them fix it for me. Had I found this video/channel a week ago...I'm sure I could have done it!
Great camera visual & explanation here! I'll be stopping back by for more How To's... Thanks guys😎💪
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just purchased an entire bearing kit for my rustler. I did the tires this yesterday. I have yet to do the transmission bearings. This was extremely helpful. I may also just go ahead & replace the diff with the sealed version while I'm at it, don't want to have to open it again lol. This ia the part of my traxxas that scares me a tad 😄 I'm ok playing with the pinion & spur, that's cake..... But those loads of tiny pins inside that box, well.... I call that box 'Pandora' 😂
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and share with your experience. Good luck and have FUN!
Thanks for the video, just got a Big Foot July 2019. This is interesting, I do not bash my truck. Really like the information for the future. Thanks and makes things less intimidating. Just got into this RC truck thing at 75 and doing just a few things at a time.
Thanks, we always happy to help!
glad this showed up in my feed today. just converted my hopped up rustler to slash lcg chassis and lowered it for street bashing and maybe drags if I go to a sealed diff. this will be my next major upgrade for sure once I really want to get serious about a drag racing build.
Thank you for your feedback 👍
I’ve had my Traxxas rustler for 2 years and just yesterday I replaced the motor! And the tires I did last month, they were bald and starting to rip through. It runs amazing now! I have a castle creations sidewinder 4 with a 4600kv motor in it
yep, it is one of the reasons why slash is so popular! Enjoy!
Roger, Adam, thank you. I've been lookin for a good video on how to maintain the diff on my slash for a WEEK. This is by far the best I've seen with in depth details shown instead of cut out. If y'all happen to see this please let me know if you've any maintenance vids on the 4x4 vxl Slash specifically, as I have both the 2wd and 4x4 and the 4x4 is certainly a bit more intimidating!
I snapped a top pin and used a small Allen wrench shaft for a pin and it's doing awesome now
I should admit its so fun to read comments section, thanks for support and feedback everybody!
RC Street Shop u
I had a question about Traxxas LiPo 2s battery, when done charging are they supposed to be luke warm like Nickel metal ones cause mine isn’t when done charging
Is your shop in canada and if i brought a traxxas slash cpuld you upgrade it? Im new to rc vehicles and im not too great at taking them apart/putting them back togerther.
And is it possible for me to ship my truck to your store from canada to be upgraded?
@@harrychattaway629 sorry for late response, we must have missed your comment. We're in Long Beach, California. We absolutely may service your truck etc, but it is going to cost you a fortune to ship all the way from Canada
Thank you for all of the time y’all put into this to make quality videos that are easy to learn from keep up the good work👍🏼
Thanks Jack, we're always happy to help!
@@Rcstreetshop what gears did you use because I bought the hot racing differential housing and the traxxas differential gears and it locks up the gears are like to small or the center drive peice is to close together and the top gears slide onto the bottom gear and it locks it up so A u need to machine a custom spacer or B it's not machined right.
Greeting my friend from Houston Texas ! I’m doing this to my 3s bandit
I did Hot-racing sealed diff with Robinson idler with RPM case. No problem. Works great. One huge benefit of RPM case is the thick aluminum engine plate vs relying on plastic case. Especially if running lots of power. I also used the Robinson slipper. Seems to be bulletproof so far...
Thanks for the tip!
Still working great, no binding or so?
Good to know information! I own 2 traxxas bandits. One from 2004 and one from 2024. Thanks alot.! Saving this video for when I am ready to attempt this.
These videos are so good that I already know how to do this stuff and watched them before but I still find them interesting
Thank you much appreciated!
Honestly, this one of the most fun parts of the hobby for me.
I bought (FLM) FastLane Machine's Aluminum Transmission Case and (FLM) FastLane Machine's Aluminum Differential and have been running both for 3 years without a problem.
I added a Castle Creations' 1406 Sidewinder 3 4600Kv Motor/ESC Combo. Set the gearing at 21T Pinion gear and 76T Spur gear. Using a 3-Cell LiPO, this set-up drives my 2WD Slash at 50MPH on 2.8 inch JConcepts Rulux Wheels with JConcepts G-Loc Tires (G-Locs aren't supposed to balloon - My set-up proves that wrong, they do balloon!) (NOTE: The motor will need a motor heat sink for 85+ degree day )
Hey guys. Love this vid. Very thorough. You mention the 1 flaw in the traxxas case is the built in a-arm mounts. I agree this is a fault, although the rpm 3 piece with 4 small nuts is tought to tighten without removing a bunch of stuff. I feel the main fault of the traxxas is actually the fact that it has to be sealed with a piece of tape. Whats up with that? Look forward to watching more videos of yours. I was surprised how clean the bearings you removed are for a rustler that was driven hard. Mine always seems to get gross. I have to change the bearings everytime i do anything. I buy them by the 100 lot. Be excellent to each other.
Hey Ryan, thanks for the feedback.
Party on dude! Station.
I'm so glad you did this video. it's everything I wanted to do to my slash before I knew what I wanted to do to my slash. Awesome sauce!
THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME MY SLASH IS MESSED UP AND I NEEDED THIS!!!!!
You're welcome and if you need parts just give us a call! 😉😉😉
bro u just saved my traxxas slash from being permanently disabled from having a shot gearbox. I love you
Really appreciate the video! My son & I are going to tackle this project together!
HEY MAN, BIG THANKYOU FOR THE VIDEO! I JUST REBUILT EVERYTHING BUT THE X-MISSION. NOW I CAN TACKLE THAT TOO!
You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
When I need a new pin I cut an Allen wrench to fit and it is strong it doesn't need to be round it's the best way to repair.
Though a pack of traxxas pins works just as good, we always high 5 any DIY stuff!

That's a wicked good idea.
Hey Guys. I want you to know that I I was gifted in 1992 and afterwards. It's actually quite a long story and I would like to send this to you to let you know I had come across your videos fixing tires on a Traxxas a vehicle with another video showing how to put the gear on to the motor and don't let it slip too much because it would overheat. I have learned quite a bit from the man with the red hair. About my gift? I've never met either one of you men but it's not too hard or difficult for me to pick up that the man with red hair is very knowledgable in these vehicles. No questions asked. I have an Emacs brushless truck and I have light pole three batteries running it. The plastic gears I have burnt most likely in around 20 of them because I am learning on my own and now that I know how to subscribe which I have subscribed to your channel and I know how to get to your videos, I would like to know if there's a way that I am supposed to tighten my tires on the back of my truck from wiggle in a little bit.? I have Botton many many many and too many parts from Traxxas. I would like to know if you tricks or tips as you will call them. I hope you can respond to me soon I'm going to be looking for more videos to come from you and ur little friend u have there.
Thanks for your time and have a blessed day. Jason.
What?
Good call on the top gear/pin. I've had the same problem with my gear stripping and breaking that pin. I saved this video on my favorites. Thanks, for the part numbers. :)
i have a traxxas rustler this upgrade i will need for future and thanks for for the help and honest opinion
Thanks for the comment, have FUN there
im new to rc and i am learning a TON from you guys !!! thanks alot!!!
Thanks a bunch for your feedback! 😎👍
Cheers for sharing your knowledge. I've found with my rustler vxl 3s, it always melts casing's where drive shafts are. Have been through 5 lots and getting to be a joke.
Explanation of what goes where especially those little washers.
Thank you for this will definitely help I've just put a rocket 4300kv motor in my slash and I'm sure I'm gunna need to upgrade this stuff soon since I killed my original clutch after running down only one battery lol
You're welcome. Make sure that you slipper clutch is tight this time
I use an Ultrasonic cleaner and toothbrush if needed to clean parts. It works on small engine carburetors, why not an RC Trans. One thing I am learning quickly is there are no shortage of upgrades for any RC vehicle as long as you are willing to spend dollars.
I use diesel or kerosene cleaner to brush off then wash dish soap and raise hot water. If hurrying to dry use blow air compressor to dry. Just like v8 engines
My traxxas raptor transmission came with no cut out to move the gear so I can’t upgrade it to a larger one & I was thinking of doing this myself. After seeing this video I’m I said eff that gonna take it to my nearest hobby shop lol thanks for the video guys
No problem, thanks for the feedback! Support your local hobby shop!
I appreciate the info with the upgraded parts and even the cleaner. A few things though...I notice no blue loctite when screwing metal to metal. Also, I did not see any grease inside the gearbox, only inside the hot-racing diff??? Lastly, I did not find carbon fiber pads for the rustler from hot-racing. Are you using a version meant for a different vehicle? thanks!
Was thinking the same thing with the grease on the gears and blue loctite. Before i even read your comment. Great minds think alike... :)
See above for my opinion on grease. the diff uses silicone oil not grease. the oil is there to provide resistance not lubrication. You are correct about the Loc-tite. I meant to use it but completely forgot. I'm not sure how Hot Racing lists the carbon pads. TRX15GS is the part number. They refer to them as "graphite" pads. they work very well.
RC Street Shop what specific kind of traxxas grease did you use?
I'm new to this hobby and love it, your videos are the best for people like me...
That differential part of video was hard to see fast forwarded like that. Ill figure it out. I always take pictures of everything before I take apart
9:28 not just that but when these vehicles take a hit, it's usually the weaker parts that break first and those are usually the cheapest to replace. Chose wisely which parts you want to upgrade.
Rpm case stripped two diffs in a year for me, whereas the stock case never did that, so right now im back downgrading back to the stock xD
I loved the proline 2wd trans... I ran mine for 3 years before sheering off the diff output. I bought diff outputs and fixed it but now I see their discontinued so eventually I will have to do this. Its sad because the arm holders are separate and cheap on the proline and so were internal parts so I could just buy arm holders instead of doing the whole trans thing over and over. And it makes 1/3 of the noise.. plus you can tell a speed and power difference instantly, along with the pulling to one side it had b4 being gone. I with there was more options.
Better Video than I can make lol haters are gonna hate. I actually did this rebuild with the hot racing case. some things that I did not see you mention is that if you get the replacement dif gears there is also a very small washer that goes between the drive shafts that I am thinking got missed. also before you screw the diff back together let the dif fluid settle if you have an air bubble it can cause parts to break because of torque. Also Traxxas does not seem to sell Idler shafts by themselves they only come with the replacement cases (Bogus!!!!!) If you have to put the top gear on the shaft use a 10mm deep socket to push the top gear onto the shaft.
Tank you for your comment and the tips. We're just a bunch of hobby guys, so we're making videos the same way everybody else would do.... unless you're renting studio and pay post production. We basically shoot videos during lunch break or after-hours and then edit them when it is slow in the store.
The input shaft pin loves it when you land a big jump at full taps on 3s 😇
The upgrade ideas are great and it's nice to have the option of getting/having those upgrades but you building the diff seemed sloopy. 500K diff oil is the thickest of the thick, put some in and let it settle. Lube the orings and check for proper seating too. I subscribed. GG.
Thanks for your critics and subscription!...a lot of stayed behind the camera, but next time we make something similar, we promise to show assembly basics as well!
A hobby knife for a hobby store would be good ;) Thanks for the how to with part numbers !
I really appreciate the videos you guys make. They've helped me SO MUCH! I don't like the few rude comments, but hey, haters gotta hate. Again, thanks for taking the time to make these videos.

You don’t have to make fun of people you realize that right or are you just kids!
Ive had my slash for a year and ive only had to replace the rear skid plate just did that on sunday
Drive it more. Drive it harder.
lol man after about 700 hundred bucks my slash flies i beat the hell out of it and keeps coming back for more
This is just experience from working on systems with bearing on F16 jets but using the shaft to install bearings works well and doesn't require impact tools or a press to force a bearing's installation potentially damaging it. It will just slip in place.
Just bought a bandit and already I need this up grade. I just smoked my transmission. Thanks for the deatiled vid for a newbie like me.
Man i really wish you had a hobby shop and worked there where i live
Just subbed I’m gonna be coming to your channel for everything for my RC car now nice video man.
Thank you, much appreciated 👍
I just put wheel axle ball bearings on 1 yr old Rustler (60 2s lipo runs on dirt&grass) to replace the 8 bronze bushings. Steering was sloppy, now it's great! But when I was setting motor pinion mesh, I noticed a bit of radial play in the top shaft that the spur and slipper run on. Is that shaft that the slipper clutch is on in bearings or bushings from factory? I have 2 more 5x11x4 ballbearings, but I hate to break into the xmission mid season if this play is normal.
Thinking about doing this. I have an rpm case though. I just destroyed all the gears. The differential got some broken teeth into it and messed it up and the intermediate has under 10 teeth as well as the other. I guess that’s what happens with a small spur and 3s lipo when it goes in 2 wheels and your slipper isn’t properly adjusted. Gonna be a fun experience lmao
Oops, I apologise for not listening carefully, but I did catch the comments the second time!
Thanks for being diligent youtuber :)
Love the videos guys . Awesome job helping us out to learn all this stuff
Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated! 👍
Very new to rc... and there are 3 of us who bought our rigs at the same time and are learning all together... your videos are an excellent tool for us... thank you ... in the description you only out 2 part numbers... nothing for the grease or any other parts you used... could we get all the part numbers
Nice and smooth, spins transmission crunchy sound.
I think Traxxas may have put thicker grease in the newer 2WD transmissions. My Bandit, Slash and Rustler (all three are just under a year old) all seem to have very smooth yet somewhat stiff diff action like my Rustler 4x4 and Slash 4x4 VXL's.
You need to service differentials. Racers, service their diffs every race. For weekend racers we recommend to service diffs every 2-3 months.
@@Rcstreetshop They've been like that since new. Plus I have serviced the entire gear box on all of my cars. It was just something I observed. I remember when the Traxxas 2WD platforms were fairly new in the late 90's. I remember the diff action being looser on those older models.
Awesome video guys very informative and easy to follow!
Thank you👍
List of products & part numbers in the description would be helpful. Otherwise thanks for the vid! :)
They did...... In this example Roger is installing a sealed aluminum differential case by Hot Racing (TE38CH) & a hardened steel idler gear from Robinson Racing (7857).

awesome vid! keep em coming! ive got the rc fever again
Thanks for your feedback! and welcome back LOL
Sweet man I needed this video for my rustler lol
Like your video guys. Just wondering, it looked like there was no lube put on the gears when you reassembled, but metal on metal would seems to want some form of lube, especially if the diff grease is staying inside the diff.
For what we use it for, we do not use lube...believe it or not but lube will slow it down. RC gears do not last as long as gears in real cars, so sometimes you may get away without using lubrication.
thank you, after watching your video, just did this!
Love the video learned a lot. Thanks for an awesome video.
As a newbie this is intimidating. Honestly. But. I will have to attempt this eventually
Honestly it's not that bad
@@MrMechanic-mb4yh yea ive never taken apart the trans and i did it to put new grease and was amazed with how much easier it was than i thought
Ive ran 6s lipos mod 1 pinion on my old traxxas magnum tranny i custom fitted to a ttphoenix for 2yrsgave it to my nephew for his birthday and its still going so you dont even need this upgrade, and if you look on RUclips youll see other guys doing the same.
Thanks for the comment Edward.
Hi guys, great video. can you list all the parts you use in this video. this way it's easier to get in my local hobby shop
Have you tried the RPM case? I have had good luck with it. I would be interested in hearing other's opinions.
Same here...we just didn't have one on hand when we were filming this.
Recently got the VXL and can't enjoy it as much as I want too because it flips. What can i do to make it stop flipping. Got the stock motor in and if I should change it what's a good motor for the Rustler
There are a number of reasons. Generally speaking you have too much grip. Adjust your slipper clutch so that it gives a little bit under heavy acceleration. OR adjust the way you apply throttle.
You may also change gearing to slow down spool time which basically changes acceleration timing.
Or try different tires (with less grip).
i have a rustler too (on 3s lipo), theres nothing efficient you can do about your front wheels getting off the ground. But you can buy a wheelie bar which prevents your car from flipping over backwards. Its just like 15$
Get the ChuckworksRC mid motor Rustler chassis
A locked rear diff is the best way to go idk if that’s what he’s referring too by sealed diff
But I just take the stoke gear and shove hot glue inside or jb weld or super glue just pack it and close it and that has lasted me 5 years with no problems 😂
And it drifts every were 👌
Locking up your diff will make your traction really bad, it needs to give at least a little bit. 2WD Slash doesn't have enough grip/torque to utilize high viscosity diff fluids, but you may try to put 50K to 300K and see how you like it.
I love the camera guys play by play comments after the main guys every sentence!
Awesome info guys. Just curious what you guys think of the Proline transmission? Seems like you know a lot.
It is great, but it is possible to get the same (if not better) results for less. Plus if you break something parts are not interchangeable and you'll to buy pro-line.
Didn’t anyone notice he forgot one thing? Lightly applying Grease to the teeth on the differential... simple to do as he could’ve done it before or even after assembling the case... just a light coating on the diff gear will cover the rest of the gears which helps quieten it, make it cooler running and gears last longer... don’t drown it in grease... light coating is key as too much can make it bog down and bind
If you put blue loctite on the idler shaft where the gear sits I have found it prolongs shaft life.
Thanks for the tip!
Does this change the sound of the car! I love the sound of my rustler, sounds like a supercharger. Thanks for the video.
mouth breathing for the win!
🤣 💣 ✔
Ur an asshole. But funny. Yes, very very funny. . ...asshole.
Lmfao Bruh!!!!!
lol
Mouth cam 😂
What determines the weight of the diff fluid? Like how do I decide which to use? Thanks for all the great vids and info guys!
The number on the bottle is the viscosity . The higher this number the more "locked" your diff is.
It really depends on the scale, power an grip along with your personal preferences, but in general, the more load you have the higher viscosity oil you need ot use.
RC Street Shop thank you
Anytime, good luck with it!
Hey guys, thanks for the video, I saw James J question below, but I didn't see why you don't lube the sealed diff, idler, and top shaft gear teeth, do you put them in dry, or some sort of lube ?
Thanks for your comment. It is OK not to lube hardened gears, they very durable and wear resistant. In general metall gears require special lube which Roger didn't have on hand. Any other lube would actually slow the transmission down and add additional resistance for Motor/ESC.
I finally picked up one of these sealed diffs. I'm not sure what silicone grease weight to use. I am seeing info all over the place when it comes to what weight to use.
I'm using my rustler for dual purpose, light bashing outside around the house & also for speed runs.
Also, does cold outdoor temps affect the viscosity of the grease?
Is that 500k cst oil that you used in this video?
Thanks, Awesome video!
Awesome video guys, thanks for the tech. However your history is a bit skewed. The Losi LRM transmission came out before the Associated Stealth. And for all I know maybe someone else even had that design prior but it was Losi that mainstreamed it. ;)
Thanks for the info 👍
MIP had the first 3 gear IIRC. Was one of the first upgrades from the AE 6 gear. Was out well before the Losi LRM
@@keithjg1 If we're getting into the nitty gritty, Tamiya's Sand Scorcher has a 3 gear transmission. ;)
Enjoyed the vid... but wondering why you didn't put any white lithium grease on the sealed diff, idler, and top shaft gear teeth? Is it not needed anymore? I always apply it when I do maintenance on my trans. Thanks.
Lithium grease is for (ideally) plastic to plastic. Since Roger has metal gears he should be using a spacial grease for metal gears or don't use it at all.
Ok I've seen some apply it and some that do not. Clears it up for me; thank you for the info.
Anytime! 👍
Sick vid thanks. Nice and thorough.
Thanks for the comment!
Unfortunately we don't have any video production experience to make then look top notch and smooth, but if we helped, then it all what matters!
What are your thoughts on the silicone ear plug method, I've seen that done a fair bit.
I was thinking of trying that on my HSP Wolverine BL, but I'd be interested in your opinion, Guys.
Thanks.
This video helped me a ton thanks guys.
Will the Hot Racing hardened steel idler gear work in a RPM hybrid gearbox when also using the Hot Racing sealed planetary differential or would I still need to stick with the stock Traxxas VXL steel idler gear? As I have a rustler Vxl 2wd with the RPM hybrid gearbox (I got the truck used for free and it has other mods.. RPM carriers on all corners, aluminum shock caps on stock shocks, aluminum rear shock tower, STRC front brace, RPM front bulkhead, stock tires and wheels, stock gearing, duct tape reinforced body, updated suspension pins, and RPM caster blocks…
i have a traxxas son uva digger 30th anniversary that i put a brushless motor out of a axial yeti 1/10 and melted the trans case and stripped all my cogs so i have put a metal proline racing trans case on it will full metal cogs and steal axles with an integy full aluminium kit and run a 3s lip without any problems so far and have put new traxxas shocks and louise mt uphill tires
Hardcore!
That sounds like one helluva rad truck you've got. Congratulations.
Good tips, the are very useful.
Thank you Erik, we're happy to help!
I had to upgrade from the plastic driveshafts after snapped them in half, also the Bandit trans will also work in them
Nice tutorial!. What kind of grease can i use on the transmission? is there any generic/easy to find grease suitable for the purpose? Greetings from Argentina
For most part you don't use grease on the transmission.
@@Rcstreetshop well tell us please. Why not answer his question?
great video guys how are you guys doing over there in long beach CA? i hear its beautiful. be safe guys
Now the fluid you put in the differential is it like the kind you use in shocks
Nevermind
It is silicone oil in both. The only difference is viscosity, lighter in shocks, heavier in differentials.
Traxxas 272R Magnum idler shaft is 1 piece and fits the standard 272 transmission.
Can I like meet you in person and come to the shop ! Looks awesome and you have so much knowledge I’d love to learn ! I’m from central Nj

Hi! I have f150 shortcourse fox clipless... Beauty sc, but transmission it wasnt good, the bell of friction it was curved!!!!! Out of box... Now i disassembly but it is used, what can i do ? Replace with new?
Is it possible to drill out the diff outputs to accept the set screw pins instead of the little grub screws on either side I recently got a used brushed stampede and with brushless upgrade and all metal drive train I bought metal drive shafts but they have the pin set screws and not the set screw on either side
thanks for the tip!
Great vid!! Power tools rock!!
Would a spool be the same concept? Recommend or not so much?
Power tools rock, but you need to have a feeling of it....we know when to stop, but even our tech strip something from time to time. Basically, when you work with plastic you really better off with basic screwdriver/allen head etc
With shops its different, as we try to save time and energy (screwing/unscrewing 8 hours a day is tough...techs go postal sometimes:) But when you do it as a hobby, then who cares, you set yourself a drink/music and do hobby till 1AM
I personally would stay away from a spool. I actually tried the Hot Racing diff spool they make for these vehicles and after a few minutes of driving, I went back to my stock open diff. The part itself is excellent quality but, my high speed handling was garbage. Unless you're building a rock crawler or drift car, I would not recommend a spool. Save up a little extra money and get the sealed diff, that way you can tune the stiffness of the diff for the best in handling
Great video guys, I just subscribed to your channel. I 've done this exact upgrade/rebuild for my 2wd but my mamba monster still chewed some teeth off top gear. Will the Associated top gear you mentioned in video work as a replacement part for the Slash 2wd? If so which one? Thanks in advance for your help.
Did you try to play with slipper settings? with team associated you would need to change the whole assembly, but then again if slipper isn't set, then you will bust it
I just bought the traxxas bigfoot no1 and have a clicking in the transmission and tomarow will be day 4 June 4 2018 I have owned this rig what could it be bought brand new
Its could be that something got jammed into plastic spur gear and clicks every time it spins and hit metal pinion, or its could be that you idler gear got stripped...or differential. It is really hard to say over the internet.
I have an Robinson Racing idle gear entegy transmission and stock gears... I like the aluminum transmission.. it's just heavy but I'll keep my stock case just in case
Get ceramic ball bearing for really smooth action. It sounds like it is the only missing part 😎
*This stuff is like peanut butter* Hahaha. Great video guys!
Thank you for the comment Ian!:)
The Idler shaft are the 272r is a one piece shaft and supposedly it fits
Hey, I just want to say, really appreciate all the how to videos 👍, they have really helped me, being that I've only been into RC about 6 months, but I am having issues adjusting the slipper, first it was too tight and I stripped two spur gears, so I barely backed it off, not even a whole quarter of a turn, and it was too loose, car barely moved and burned up the pads and warped the spur gear, any suggestions? And what is the brand and part number of the bearing kit?
Thank you for your feedback and comment. Setting up a slipper really depends on many variables. I would start with setting right gear mesh (we have video on that too) and gap. Then I 'd make sure that the grip (the actual grip) is right, meaning that you have right tires for where you run it. Once you know that power get transferred correctly you start tinkering your slipper. Try not to overheat it, as it will change the way it responds. Do 1/8 of a turn, on super powerful vehicles we even suggest 1/16 of a turn (a with high power even slight adjustment makes a world of difference).
RC Street Shop I have a slash vxl tsm 2wd with proline 2.8 trenchers, I am powering it with Traxxas 6400 mAh 3s lipo, in my opinion it's very powerful, I just bought the upgrades listed in this video and 3 spur gears and will try doing minor adjustments and see what happens, thanks for all the help and advice
No problem, happy to help! Have FUN!
