    I know this is many years later but it’s interesting to me that the 272R trans is at this moment (3/9/24) $99.95 on Traxxas’ website. The price actually came down some it seems. By the way this is the first video I’ve ever seen of yours and it was extremely well done. I was gifted a 2WD rustler and stampede, both xl5 brushed models. I’ve been wanting to know what all the differences were between these exact three transmissions. I’ve been searching for several days to basically find nothing. This video was amazing and extremely informative, I now know which trans I will get. Thank you again!

    Got the proline transmission and added the velinion 3s at same time on 2wd rustler. Put the traxxas wheelie bar on and that in my opinion was the problem. The proline is awesome but the 1st 2 or 3 wheelies put to much stress on rear case of trans and broke the case around the rear. Just installed the magnum 272r and it seems beefier in that rear section. Will be testing. Other notes on proline is the largest pinion that can fit is 19t honestly I think it's fine because it comes with 56 tooth spur

    • @telecomandorc

      @telecomandorc  Год назад +1

      I like the layshaft swap. The only thing is the 272R does have the kick-up built in. I had the HRATE38CH but the large thin o-rings leaked. Good thing for Harbor Freight and their o-ring sets.

    you mentioned using a 40 tooth pinion w/ the 76 t spur, are you running that with stock vxl motor & esc on 2s for drag racing? if so have you had any issues, I have 76 - 31 I assumed going any higher might be bad but now you have me thinking?? Thanks

    • @telecomandorc
      @telecomandorc  2 года назад

      I am not running that set up at this time. I did it to give people an idea. A 35-36T is better because it is smooth (easier to modulate throttle with stock esc) but runs cooler for more passes. It depends on how many consecutive passes you will do. But I do have a 76T spur. A 48P will be fine with a stock VXL on 2s. If you run a more powerful system you may want to consider a 32P... with MOD1 you lose tuning capability.

      It should have included a 28T pinion assuming it has an 86T spur. But it will probably lift due to the body before it gets to top speed. You will have to cut out a large window in the rear of the body. It you get a 76T spur you can do a 26TT pinion. The 28T pinion with a 76T spur takes too long to get to top speed, and is too much heat. Keep in mind you will only be able to do a few passes and will have to let it cool as the motor will overheat.

      Finally they come down in price. I am not sure how much money they save on the regular 272, but I see no point. The Slash really needs the 272R. Plus that 3 degree kick up really helps out.

      @@telecomandorc i think this 272R is a great upgrade because of the tunable diff and the slipper shaft plus I use the aluminum hot racing long pads better bite. I can set it and leave it and not worry if it backs off. how are the carbon fiber ones?

    • @telecomandorc
      @telecomandorc  2 года назад

      @@slashraptor9317 It depends on the power. For 2s I like the carbon pads because they are a little smoother and they do not chew up the friction disk as much. Now, for more power, or even the heavy nitros (like Tmaxx) I like the aluminum because they are more aggressive and hook up fast. But they wear and score the friction disk faster.

      @@slashraptor9317 You are putting all the power down then. Those aluminum pads grip even with a turn out. Not that I recommend a turn out. The nylon nut wears with the heat generated over time.

    • @telecomandorc

      It depends on what the purpose. I am liking the 272R with 40K in the diff. For spec Slash... go heavy on the oil weight.

      Same thing happened to me but sadly in the process of the trans case snapping I lost the chunk that broke so now I’m going to use the internals to rebuild an aluminum case myself but I’m trying to find a decent trans to bash that won’t break within 8 runs to 12 runs

    • @telecomandorc
      @telecomandorc  2 года назад

      Agree. The current price is $140. If it were closer to $100 it would be more palatable. Especially since one can use the 272 transmission case with the 272R shaft and, like you mentioned in another post, the HRATE38CH diff. case. That would be less expensive. Although, the 272 does not have the same kick up as the 272R... not a big deal.
