What’s the best pinion/spur combo for that 272 magnum with the vxl3s motor? I’m after top speed? Not sure what that motor can handle, just got it and about to get the transmission.
It should have included a 28T pinion assuming it has an 86T spur. But it will probably lift due to the body before it gets to top speed. Not sure. Most spurs are 56T and some 57T. Hot Racing makes a spur for the Axial that might fit if you eliminate the slipper. But never tried replacing it for an after marked one. The one in my TRX4 is different.
This is the part # HRATRX15GSL and you can find them here: www.amainhobbies.com/hot-racing-carbon-fiber-long-traxxas-slipper-clutch-kit-hratrx15gsl/p-quawtsqapbzxactz If you want something more aggressive try: HRATRX15HSL.
If cost is not an issue, I would get the 272R. I like the way the Slash handles dirt with the kick up built in. I can hold a little more power. The 272 is easier coming off power, but not by much... and only in abrupt negative acceleration changes... So 272R is my pick. You can always get the top shaft for about $8 and the HR sealed diff for close to $50. But the HR diff I have leaked due to the o-ring seals shrinking. So I have to replace those.
Finally they come down in price. I am not sure how much money they save on the regular 272, but I see no point. The Slash really needs the 272R. Plus that 3 degree kick up really helps out.
@@telecomandorc i think this 272R is a great upgrade because of the tunable diff and the slipper shaft plus I use the aluminum hot racing long pads better bite. I can set it and leave it and not worry if it backs off. how are the carbon fiber ones?
@@slashraptor9317 It depends on the power. For 2s I like the carbon pads because they are a little smoother and they do not chew up the friction disk as much. Now, for more power, or even the heavy nitros (like Tmaxx) I like the aluminum because they are more aggressive and hook up fast. But they wear and score the friction disk faster.
@@slashraptor9317 You are putting all the power down then. Those aluminum pads grip even with a turn out. Not that I recommend a turn out. The nylon nut wears with the heat generated over time.

If you can find a smaller spur to fit a larger pinion, that works. But I do not recommend those gears for lower Kv motors. It will bee too slow.
19 tooth pinion and a 37 spur mod 1
Witch one would recommend for dirt oval
If cost is not an issue, I would get the 272R. I like the way the Slash handles dirt with the kick up built in. I can hold a little more power. The 272 is easier coming off power, but not by much... and only in abrupt negative acceleration changes... So 272R is my pick. You can always get the top shaft for about $8 and the HR sealed diff for close to $50. But the HR diff I have leaked due to the o-ring seals shrinking. So I have to replace those.
Thanks for your reply and advice 272r it is
@@davidrenaldo9429You are welcome. My pleasure.
I found the 109.99 at my local hobbyshop the 272r is more smooth compared to the 272
Finally they come down in price.
@@telecomandorc I set my slipper almost all the way tight and back it off an 8th of a turn not very much
@@slashraptor9317 You are putting all the power down then. Those aluminum pads grip even with a turn out. Not that I recommend a turn out. The nylon nut wears with the heat generated over time.
What’s the best differential setup?
It depends on what the purpose. I am liking the 272R with 40K in the diff. For spec Slash... go heavy on the oil weight.
TelecomandoRC Thank you, I pick up my 272R tomorrow!
@@andrewnielsen4890 Good choice. By the way, the differential is easy to remove and retune (change diff. oil) compared to the others. I am really liking the simplicity.
Velineon 3500kv heats up too much the lower the KV the bigger the pinion
I c broke off the whole right fin off of a proline p32 tyranny it happened within the first 30min of me bashing lol
It's funny but it hurts. I am sure we can all relate. Good luck. Cheers.
Same thing happened to me but sadly in the process of the trans case snapping I lost the chunk that broke so now I’m going to use the internals to rebuild an aluminum case myself but I’m trying to find a decent trans to bash that won’t break within 8 runs to 12 runs
@@Lostprovince2319 Integy used to make one for the Rustler that was pretty good. But I was not able to mount the rear bumper on my Slash. Not sure if they still make it.
Thanks for this video but I still don't like the price tag
Agree. The current price is $140. If it were closer to $100 it would be more palatable. Especially since one can use the 272 transmission case with the 272R shaft and, like you mentioned in another post, the HRATE38CH diff. case. That would be less expensive. Although, the 272 does not have the same kick up as the 272R... not a big deal.
Liquid rc???
I like the comment, but I have no affiliation with Liquid RC. I liked the squid.
one uses one a lot
One might say. 😁🤝
In Arizona
I will have to take a trip to Chester's. Not for RC parts but for fried gizzards before I go search for parts. What is the current price in AZ for the transmission?
@@telecomandorc $140
@@angeloverduzco2891 Thank you. Similar price then. Considering how much the PL is, it is a good price as the 272R allows for more tuning.
@@telecomandorc yes... I thought it was a good price... I am really liking this transmission... my slash is a beast right now... lol
@@angeloverduzco2891 Try the PL ProTrac kit if you have not. It is night and day. The parts are sold separately for now since Horizon bought PL. They are supposed to bring it back at some point.
I use mod 1 gear
