to start out this is what i would up grade. my slash is a 4x4 and already came lcg equiped but alot of the parts are simular. 1st 4 upgrades i would recomend : aluminum shock caps, sway bar kit, and lcg chassis (if not already equiped from factory) and a lcg chassis brace. the sway bar kit makes a massive difference on my 4x4 truck's driveability. i agree 100% with your comments about aluminum a-arms and shock towers....it looks good but unless the truck is a shelf queen those upgrades are JUNK and will get bent up pretty fast. steering upgrades are next on my "to do" list. thank you for this video, take care 🙂
Needed a new hobby and have always been interested in RC cars since I was younger. Just bought a Slash as my first car and want to eventually upgrade it.
Thanks David! 50 vehicles sounds like a lot of FUN! Slash is our #1 seller!...I've never seen anybody complaining after buying their first Slash! Usually they come back for more speed or run time, but always with a smile on the face😎
I grew up on 80s Radio Shack cars, but my first upgradeable one from a hobby shop was the orange Robby Gordon 2wd Slash. My buddy tells me that particular body is kinda rare now, so that's kinda cool too.
Yup. Illinois guy here. I'm getting into the hobby for racing and starting off with a Slash in the Mudboss class especially because it's became pretty popular here to according to my buddy who has raced RC pretty much all his life on and off. Cant wait for my truck to show up Tuesday along with some extras. He's going to help me at the track while he runs his sprint cars. Absolutely cant wait to start driving and learning as much as I can from everyone at the track.
Thank You for taking your time to make these videos. I recently bought a slash as my first RC car and wondered where to start for upgrades. I was about to blow money on aluminum parts assuming they’d be superior but what you just said makes more sense. Aluminum is not necessary In all places. I am relieved to know that I don’t need half the things I was looking at. I will definitely be stopping by your store for parts and upgrades. I never knew your shop existed til I came on youtube ! Thanks again and I will be visiting your shop soon for some of these parts.
My daughter just purchased the Slash 2WD today from a local hobby shop here on the east coast. This was an awesome video. Very informative. When it comes time for parts or upgrades I'll be definitely buying from you!
I just bought a slash 2wd vxl tsm oba a week ago. The servo died after less then 10 hrs of running😒😤😭 I also broke the left caster block and steering arm and suspention arm. I did replace all this with RPM plastics part and i am verry happy with that choise. Also i can only run my rc in winter there for aluminium is not good at temp bellow -20°C. I love the tsm, it really help keepon control. Also the OBA is freeking cool. Im the first in my small village to have this and everybody is stoping and ask question about it. Im already looking for the ultimate 4x4 now and im going to give the 2wd to my 11 year old son. Great vidieo. Bonjours du Québec. Conduit prudament! 😉
Im new in the rc hobbie and idk if ill buy a kit or the ultimate traxxas next purchase. When ill know better the compagnie that manufacture parts i think ill go for the kit. But 4 now my knowledge start and stop a traxxas shitty servo. I should have discover Rc hobbies a long time ago... its so fun.
Such good info. Just bought all the recommended products from this video. Thanks for helping me know what to upgrade on my truck and saving me from buying all metal parts.
I decided to keep the original chassis on my Slash since I like the scale look that Traxxas went for with the body roll and suspension movement. I went with RPM's front bulkhead, nerf bars, spur gear cover and front and rear skid plates. I also upgraded to Traxxas Big Bore shocks just for looks and added strength, plus the anti friction coatings help a little with response. As for the stock servo stripping out well thats a given since people beat the piss out of these trucks lol. As for the motor since I have the XL-5 I replaced the stock titan 12t 550 with a Dynamite 12 turn 550. Its got more low end and mid range torque plus a higher topend speed. Its pretty impressive for a cheap motor!
I agree with most of this great advice. except having aluminum arms I haven't had any issues at all bashing the hell out this car flipping the car at 60 + on the street going off jumps and all. the plastic arm's are cheaper thats a giving BUT they broke easily and so did the bulk head and that nylon bar that connects in the front of bulk i dont know the proper term but i got aluminum arms aluminum bulk and swapped that nylon bar for a aluminum one as well and it was the best upgrade i ever did even have aluminum arms in the rear and used 4wd axles in the rear because there thicker then the 2wd ones. All of this with a sidewinder esc and 3800 kv motor lower spur gear and bigger pinion gear this slash has been a beast haven't had to replace anything since i put aluminum parts on. Aluminum is the way to go IMO 👍👍👍👍
Ur right on the money when u said u can build a slash with all hop up parts cus I did build a track slash with nothing but hot racing, strc, rpm, proline, castle n yes it was $1,100 plus to build. I started with a lcg chassis n ordered all parts to make the rig
Great Channel keep them coming . I'm in this store about 2-3 times a week getting something. I got a 2wd slash with almost no part and I came there and yall had every part I was looking for. and great customer service
If ur short on cash u can use pipe tape on plastic shock caps and it works pretty good I kept popping them on my arrma granite box 2 wheel drive solved the problem
Great truck !!hands down very durable you can beat on these things all day with very few issues bent a couple shocks here and there doing 25 to 30 ft long jumps but that probable a bit much for a stock truck that is the price that it is.if your looking g to start this hobby start here!!!
Great video!! I put an old Novak Ballistic 8.5t brushless motor/esc combo on a 3s lipo On my 2wd Slash and it’s stupid fast. Handles like a slug though. Gonna install the lcg chassis and some other parts to see how it changes the performance.
I've been building stampede trucks since 1st gen. I have built an aluminum stampede with all the bells and whistles. What a waste of money. I have put my monster jam grave digger threw hell. I have not broke many parts but agree when I do I go rpm. I just scored a nice slash roller for $60. It will be my first slash build, just gathering info now. Thanks for the tips.
I just happened channel and thank you. I have been looking for a good channel for basic upgrade and how to videos for a slash and saw that you have several videos on this. From what I saw in the background you have a nice little shop too. I wish I could just swing by but I live On Vancouver Island. Cant wait to look through more of your archives.
Thank you for your comment! Much appreciated your support and hey it is never a bad idea to visit California for a couple of weeks! 😎🌴☀️ Just kidding :)
I love my Slash 2Wd, so far it’s far from stock with LCG chassis, Sidewinder ESC/motor, Proline full suspension, Giant Traxxas GTR shocks, etc etc etc lol
So my friend sold me his Kit 2wd slash he got and barely used before getting a 4wd. Took it out for a stock run. Broke a bearing carrier. The truck has been on the bench since. Bc I keep buying upgrades lol. Just got a new servo
After fixing my truck i took it out yesterday. I run a Velenion 3500 with a 3s lipo and that thing flys. I grab my dad to show him how fast it goes now and after one pass i go to slow down and my car just goes flying in the air. It breaks off a hex and snaps a rear stabilizer clean in half. I just fixed my slipper clutch and steering servo 5min before and its already broken again. It also takes days for parts to arrive since amazon is trying to help get people priority items. Out of curiosity do you guys ship? If so how long does it usually take? (Im located in MI).
A slipper clutch eliminator is the next upgrade for my 2wd slash, already have all metal shocks, hot racing gears, integy metal drive shafts.. basically everything breakable running 2wd I'm changing out to metal lol
Firstly, I'd like to say that your channel sir, is AWESOME! Loved it! Great information my friend. Secondly, I had no idea (Probably my fault :) that my RPM products had such a great warranty! My day just got better :) Thanks again!
might be getting the slash...good vid. seems pretty confident/sincere about these upgrade. got the TRX-4 sport coming. Just getting into RC. the Slash looks good...not big on adding 100 bucks right away...but these sound pretty good and straight forward.
I have a stampede 2wd with upgrades that realy make it perfect for me like body vxl3s lipo battary, and and some duratrax hatchet mt,s. definatly agree that aluminium parts are a wast of mony rpm rules.
I have owned almost every type of RC! Losi 5t all the way to 1/24 crawlers and everything inbetween nitros crazy fast elec and all! But the 1/10 slash 2wd is prob my most favorite lol! Wicked in the skatepark!
If I upgrade the servo, will the servo savers last longer? I am just getting into the hobby and my Pede keeps popping savers because I don't know how to drive and avoid obstacles obviously. Thanx.
No they will die faster upgraded servos have metal gears and even if you drive perfect you will strip the plastic servo saver's just go get an aluminum arm for 10$ and don't drive on street with curbs around lol.
Thanks for your question (its actually a good one). Before you even upgrade your servo we recommend to change stock servo saver to something a bit more capable. Stock servo saver was designed decades ago for different speeds, loads, abuse and servos. These days with high speed/torque digital servos one needs to modify other elements of steering mechanism to match servo's performance. Upgraded servo saver will let you adjust it to your style of riding (even if you keep bumping into curbs).
I got my 2wd slash 10 years ago and its still going strong. I went custom which is loads better than aftermarket parts built to same geometry specs as stock. I'm not one to make videos but I'd love to spread the knowledge of how to build a long travel roof jumper on the cheap. Main thing is to get control arms from different models and run longer shocks front and rear with coils doubled up
I like most of this, but i recommend aluminum castor blocks. The RPM castor block bends too easily, allowing the pin the bend. This does not happen with aluminum castors.
The LGC chassis is such a huge improvement it's insane I did it last but I should have done it first. The biggest problem I had was the stupid tq transmitter and receiver it sucks so bad just throw it away and use any other transmitter receiver combo, I use a redcat one in my slash and in my trx4 sport that came with the same transmitter I swapped out for a ecx barrage transmitter and receiver. I'm sure the more expensive Traxxas transmitter's are ok but the stock generic tq with just the steering trim is absolute garbage and I have never use such a bad transmitter/receiver it's funny my exc and redcat transmitter's are 10000 times better on range and have all the options to dial it in and they both came off 140$ RCs lmao, Traxxas can at least give you a transmitter worth a damn since there RCs are not cheap.
Investing in electronics is really a good way to save yourself a lot of headache. Traxxas uses really simple transmitter/receiver, obviously with cheap components etc. That affect the performance. Big time. Changing stock Transmitter/receiver may cure a lot of small problems problems and advance some important stuff such as speed, accuracy, ease of adjustment etc
This is great. Thanks for posting. I just got a slash after 32 years abstaining from RC. Boy these things are good!!!! You'll think I'm mad, but I'm running on the 50% ESC setting as it's so good compared to the build models of the 80's I'm used to... I'm savoring the 100% speed option............. If your $100 makes them even better (chassis, shock caps and servo were my main takes) then sign me up Roger! Out of interest, what brand battery would you recommend to use in one? Venom? Traxxas? Thanks and stay safe!
Either one is a good option. I'm thinking Traxxas, as it is going to be much easier with charger setup etc, but see what your local hobby store has. Have Fun and welcome back!:)
Probably a better servo back then because the new 2075 servo is crap mine blew a fuse in about an hour and I have read tons of reviews about people's servos just dying like mine did right when they get the truck.
I have a brushless 2wd slash and I'm new to the hobby. 2 weeks in, the only upgrades I have on it is one rpm rear a-arm (i have the other one ready for use if needed), a replaced shock and the aluminum shock caps. I drove it today on full speed for the first time since I broke the a-arm, I abused it pretty heavily on my local track (doing jumps and not lading flat, rolling over, driving off the track into the pits 😬) and when my battery ran out, nothing broke! I'm surprised at how much a couple upgrades can do for the durability! I'm definitely gonna get the low LCG kit cuz on the track I'd either spin out or stop completely, or run off the course. Should I upgrade the shocks as well and if so what should I use? Someone I met said to get the proline shocks but those are way out of my budget. And lastly, am I gonna need to replace the servo? Thanks!
Hey Jack, yes, we recommend changing stock servo to better servo as it improves the way you feel your truck and control it. However, with shocks, you can get away with stock shock as long as you set the rebound and re-build them
RC Street Shop what does rebound mean? And by rebuild you mean take it apart and put it back together with new oil? And will the servo help with my spinning out problem or will I need new tires and if so what would you recommend for driving on road and at the dirt track? Or maybe just a cheapish set of track wheels I can switch out?
Right wheels/tires improve handling and acceleration dramatically and no, servo won't help with spinning out but will improve control over the stock servo.
Got a 2wd slash last Christmas and should have got the shock caps. Instead I went with a castle sct3 4700kv brushless with rpm components lcg and aluminum bearing carriers. But for some reason I pick the longer rear a arms and need to get the 59 mm camber link because the ends keep stripping out and I lost a drive shaft. And 3s batteries. The thing is stupid fast and I should have learned to drive better before I made it wicked fast.
Probably would start with aluminum shock caps, then would get steel shafts that are compatible with the traxxas aluminum hubs and up the shock oil to 50/50
I want my truck to behave like a real short course truck , good and bad . The realism is what attracted me to RC trucks . I'd like my truck to roll and squat etc. like the TORC trucks do , so I don't want the LCG chassis .
You should recommend traxxas GTR shocks for people also if they have the money. Instead of shock caps you can sell the stock shocks for $10-20, drop the $80 on GTRs and never worry about shocks again. I bashed mine super hard, smashed into a pole and broke RPM stuff but the shocks were perfectly fine. My fav upgrade on any 1/10 trx
Hi Roger, whe have some problems with our idle gears. Whe are driving on a 3s lipo. I bought the robinson idle gear. But i decided to upgrade the whole transmission house and diff. whe are thinking of buying a FLM house and diff. What do you think about that investment?
Hey Eric, its cool, but it is hard to justify things like this without asking more questions.... Give us a call when you have a moment 562-425-9000 (10am-7pm PST) we'll chat over the phone 😎
Im looking at the slash 2x4 non vxl, add a motor/ esc upgrade, batteries (2 3s), charger, low cg kit, shocks (Full front and rear shocks), tires (front and rear), taller body mount kit, new servo, upgraded arms, and all of a sudden you turn a 200 dollar (slow) car into a 800-900ish dollar (fast) one. Can this car modified compete with the likes of a stock UDR?
I did the aluminum shock caps on my slash. Because they don’t have an upper ball sleeve, the screws on the driver side will not stay tight? How do you keep them tight?
I have a 7.4V battery. The operating speed for the servo is 4.8V-6.0V. Can I still use it being I have a 7.4V battery. I am very new to this hobby so I apologize if that's a stupid question lol
Thank you. You're 100% right, many Traxxas 1/10 scale models have the same exact components, so these tips will apply to pretty much 70% of all Traxxas vehicles.
I put my slash through some massive abuse with brushless and 3s lipo, only upgrades were aluminum caster blocks and upgraded half shafts I’ll be putting together a montage video of some of that abuse, check it out!! 👍
My only problem with Traxxas is they over charge for their brushed motor vehicles. All the parts are still built over seas. And they mark them up at least 100 dollars more.
Yes, the new steering arm will strip stock Traxxas servo. To run aluminum arm you need to upgrade to aftermarket servo with full metal gears and decent torque.
How much are these upgrades where your shop is? I live in canada and was wonderong what the differences are. And if i could send my truck to be upgraded to full out race worthy?
My slash, if I go neutral from say full throttle, it slows down quite quick..is that maybe some dried up gears or something? My slash is a few years old and wasn’t used for a long time
My first RC car was a rustler I crashed the thing so many times cuz I did not know anything about them I would get a slash cuz if you don't want to bash any more you can always make it in to a street eliminator it's a nice drag car or you can make it in to a monster truck the customisations with a slash is more than what the rustler would have
@@armsalesman5691 Well it's a good thing I got a Slash. Well the wife bought me one for Christmas so I haven't gotten yet but she bought me the Slash VXL 2wd with the Fox body. I can't wait to drive it.
Thank you for giving us a chance to earn your business...unfortunately, no matter how hard we try we, we can't make our online shop work the way we want, something is always off.
I liked it when the 2wd slash class came out and it was box stock only...people sink all sorts of money to win what at one time was a entry level out of the box class and thus the class has died out here
This guy has to be one of the most honest sales guy ever. Such good advice! Thanks!

Needed a new hobby and have always been interested in RC cars since I was younger. Just bought a Slash as my first car and want to eventually upgrade it.
Welcome to the club and have FUN!
Best mod I did to my slash was make my own front sway bar. Used a pair of short turnbuckles a couple of bolts two zip ties and a bmx spoke.
I started the hobby with a 2wd slash but now i have a Hpi baja 5b
I had recently installed a Traxxas Low CG chassis and I'm very happy with the performance of my truck
Couple it with better shocks and tires and that transform the truck completely!
Great video I have over 50 vehicles and the slash is still one of my favorites I always recommend it as a first Rc to buy.
Thanks David! 50 vehicles sounds like a lot of FUN! Slash is our #1 seller!...I've never seen anybody complaining after buying their first Slash! Usually they come back for more speed or run time, but always with a smile on the face😎

Good rationale for the LCG chassis. My take on that is if you're going to be buying a 2WD Slash, it may as well be an LCG.

I have owned almost every type of RC! Losi 5t all the way to 1/24 crawlers and everything inbetween nitros crazy fast elec and all! But the 1/10 slash 2wd is prob my most favorite lol! Wicked in the skatepark!
For this reason Slash is the most selling Traxxas truck. Have fun there 👍
If I upgrade the servo, will the servo savers last longer?
Main thing is to get control arms from different models and run longer shocks front and rear with coils doubled up
You are right plastic bends better and more place able, won’t transfer the force to damage the bulkhead
I like most of this, but i recommend aluminum castor blocks. The RPM castor block bends too easily, allowing the pin the bend. This does not happen with aluminum castors.
Thanks for the tip!
Happy to find you guys!
Thank you Shon!
Bro you always giving good tips stuff
Tkx
@@Rcstreetshop Aw man! I put all of the hop ups into my cart.... you don't ship to Canada. :-(
shoot us an email (buy@rcstreetshop.com), we've sent a package down under the other week, I'm sure we can send anything to our neighbors up north:)
Love ur channel!much love from the pacific northwest.
Cool video. I'm still running my original servo in my 8 year old Slash lol.
Probably a better servo back then because the new 2075 servo is crap mine blew a fuse in about an hour and I have read tons of reviews about people's servos just dying like mine did right when they get the truck.
@@stpbasss3773 Yeah I've heard that too. I usually only upgrade when things break. That's why this old 2075 is still in my truck lol
Thank you! Old school or no school ! Same here I still have some stuff on my trucks from late 90s 😇😇😇
Or maybe just a cheapish set of track wheels I can switch out?
check our video on how to set rebound and yes, re-build means taking it apart, changing worn components and oil
RC Street Shop sounds good! What about the wheels and will the servo help?
Right wheels/tires improve handling and acceleration dramatically and no, servo won't help with spinning out but will improve control over the stock servo.
I have a 2wd and 4x4 slash that are 2 years old at least and badly need upgraded or severally overhauled.
I remember when I put the vxl in my slash 2wd and it broke one part twice 😂
It sounds like you had some good times 👍
RC Street Shop yes I did now the vxl that was in the slash is now in my new stampede 4x4
Very helpful thankyou so much! Also amazing shirt bro
I just got my slash 2wd and the first thing I broke was my transmission cover. It broke where the arm connects.
Bummer... it's not a common break
My hub carrier broke on mine my first time now o got alloy ones on there and aluminum a-arms
Probably would start with aluminum shock caps, then would get steel shafts that are compatible with the traxxas aluminum hubs and up the shock oil to 50/50
I converted my rustler to slash today. Lcg is what's up
100% agree 👍👍👍
Just bought my first! Love it, how do we find out the year it was made?
Check documentation which comes with it
Dude you sound like Seth rogen 😂😂😂
He is getting better from video to video
😂😂😂😂
He looks like Seth Rogen 😂
@@Rcstreetshop are you the Marijuana James Franco friend man ?
He sounds more like the blue thing from monster vs aliens
I feel if u put suspention strap limiters will keep shock caps on.
I want my truck to behave like a real short course truck , good and bad . The realism
is what attracted me to RC trucks . I'd like my truck to roll and squat etc. like the TORC
trucks do , so I don't want the LCG chassis .
I got the chassi and the new traxxis shocks hoping they are good
Very good choice indeed! Have FUN
Just got mine. Love them. I have the rears all around. Best upgrade.
Low cg kit does not always get stuck on the track pipes
Hi Roger, whe have some problems with our idle gears. Whe are driving on a 3s lipo. I bought the robinson idle gear. But i decided to upgrade the whole transmission house and diff. whe are thinking of buying a FLM house and diff. What do you think about that investment?
Hey Eric, its cool, but it is hard to justify things like this without asking more questions.... Give us a call when you have a moment 562-425-9000 (10am-7pm PST) we'll chat over the phone 😎
Great advice! Hello from the uk!
Your awesome dude! I love my protek servo
Thank you!
This video didn't show me how to do anything it only tells what to change beginners want to see you changing stuff
Man I wish you worked at the hobby store where I live
Dude u forgot the most important of all mods: the tires!
Our goal was to spend less than $100, although we agree that tires/suspension are very important.
goodtips video but ilike to see how u upgrade.... like build one for u......im new in this hobbyes......thanks have good one
Thank you for the feedback Romero.
Im revamping my slash. Cool Vid! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Luis, good luck with it!😎👍
@@Rcstreetshop Question? What is the Offset of the stock wheels on the 4tec2.0 front and rear?
I did the aluminum shock caps on my slash. Because they don’t have an upper ball sleeve, the screws on the driver side will not stay tight? How do you keep them tight?
I have a 7.4V battery. The operating speed for the servo is 4.8V-6.0V. Can I still use it being I have a 7.4V battery. I am very new to this hobby so I apologize if that's a stupid question lol
Love your videos, (from Chicago)
Thanks a bunch! High five from Long Beach!✋😎
great info... sure it can apply to other models as well except for the LCG chassis...
Actually you can put the lgc on a stampede or bandit or ruslter but it pretty much just turns it into a Slash but I've seen it done before
Sure thing!👍👍👍
Haven’t posted it yet still working on my editing skills but I love the informative videos!
Thank you!
Slash Bash video is up!
My only problem with Traxxas is they over charge for their brushed motor vehicles. All the parts are still built over seas. And they mark them up at least 100 dollars more.
Thanks for the video. Great info
The only aluminum piece I have on my slash is the bulkhead after i snapped the original
Try RPM next time you break something.
Awsome shirt
I have the stock Traxxas servo What will a new steering arm do, and will it risk breaking the servo if you don’t have a servo saver?
Yes, the new steering arm will strip stock Traxxas servo. To run aluminum arm you need to upgrade to aftermarket servo with full metal gears and decent torque.
How much are these upgrades where your shop is? I live in canada and was wonderong what the differences are. And if i could send my truck to be upgraded to full out race worthy?
They worth $100. Give us a call 562-425-9000 we will be more than happy to assist with picking up right components etc
Can you use a LCG chassis on a Slash 4x4 VXL ? It is about 2 years old.
I just saw a video from you guys how much is a Traxxas slash fox brushless 2wd
give us a call 562-425-9000 10am-4pm PST
My slash, if I go neutral from say full throttle, it slows down quite quick..is that maybe some dried up gears or something? My slash is a few years old and wasn’t used for a long time
I’ll be calling thanks 🤙
Thank you
Should I buy a 2wd VXL Slash or VXL Rustler. Just for an all around fun/bashing truck. I don't currently own an RC car and I will never race
Slash would be a bit more durable. It is going to be just a bit slower then Rustler, but times more durable and fun.
That's awesome man happy RCing
Several of the items in your list are no longer available on your site. I would have bought them all if they were! :-)
Thank you for giving us a chance to earn your business...unfortunately, no matter how hard we try we, we can't make our online shop work the way we want, something is always off.
@@Rcstreetshop Understood.
Very helpful Thank you !!
We're happy to help!
I think it's all a matter of taste and opinion and how you drive it. If you dont try to break it or do stupid skate park jumps it will be fine
great video, love that shirt
Thank you 👍
Do you have a video of installing all this by chance
Thanks this really helped
Thank you we're happy to help! 👍
I liked it when the 2wd slash class came out and it was box stock only...people sink all sorts of money to win what at one time was a entry level out of the box class and thus the class has died out here
Good old days 😎
I love my slash, all I did was upgrade to hot racing front and rear big bore suspension... low cg kit is pointless imo only benefits 4x4
LCG improves traction/acceleration, turns, etc handling in general
