I've ran 17 Velineon vxl systems, and 1 died because it didn't go into thermal shutdown. I have ran multiple Castle Creations SCT 1410 1Y 3'800-KV systems. I love both systems! And think that the Velineon system is a little over priced!! But the Traxxas warranty is worth the Velineon system, well to me it is anyway.
@@bordfronco no fan on any of the 17, and running the sticky S1 compound Tires. The body was a Chevrolet 1500 from Pro-Line Racing and I had a huge Spoiler on the front of the Body, so I am thinking that it didn't have much if any airflow to the e.s.c. this was my bad!

That Castle Motor is a 1406 can. It would be a proper comparison if you compared the Castle 3800kv 1410 motor with the Velineon 3500kv motor. The Traxxas ESC overheats like crazy from what I've heard, I run the 3800kv motor and the Castle SV3 esc.
That's why you can buy a fan for it for quite cheap under 20 dollars for the traxxas banded or even cheaper with a noname one.... also the yjsut shut off don't burn out...
Logan Frame you should of contacted castle I’ve had them repair or replace systems and the castle system deals with it very very well as the traxxes over heats I have both systems and on my current set up the castle system was around 10mph faster. The side winder v4 esc and motor is 129 on Amazon
Castle posted a big write up on the traxxas forums explaining why they don’t put a current rating on their speed controllers that’s pretty informative. Castle really does make a great product and I love the vxl system but I’d have to say castle is superior but it all depends what you’re looking for
Raj K 7910 if you are putting it in a 1/10 erevo the motor will have nowhere near enough torque to move the vehicle or you will have heating issues. If you are talking about the mini erevo then I'd recommend gearing down a fair amount just to be nice to the diffs. They don't like being under a lot of torque and will strip if you put them under a lot of speed. Be sure to spend your time shimming the diffs PERFECTLY if you plan on doing so
Great video! Rather than wait a month or two, the Velineon system was on back order, I went with a Hobby Star brushless and Esc, $110 for both! My hobby shop said it's very comparable to the Velineon system! I run Lipos 2s and 3s! My Slash with a 3s is almost uncontrollable even on pavement, lol! Been running the Hobby Star for almost 3 weeks and I'm very impressed so far. I love my Slash and it screams over stock! My hobby shop provided the Traxxas end at no extra charge! Anyone running a Hobby Star and what are your thoughts? I'm still a noob, lol....any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
Hi hello. Great video. I have both systems. I actually oun two castle creations systems. But now i have come across a RC that holds a castle creations sidewinder 3 esc and velenion motor? Now that combo in my RC runs amazing! Wheelys on command. Half throttle is 46 . Not enough room where I live . But it's a great combo. Love it
To be honest with you I think it's quality control just depends on how good the solder joints. Every ESC is going to have more resistance than the other so just depending on the QC factor maybe that's why some run hot and some don't!
BUILTLIGHTWOUNDTIGHT get a 6s compatible esc so you can use castle link and retune that 1406-4600 to do some runs on 4s really wakes it up on 6s it's a whole different animal
Sidewinder3 won't stand up to the vxl, can push as much amps or turn as tall of gears. Sidewinder4 setup right will run with or beat it. So far my vxl geared 40/76 is second only to my Mamba X truck on 6s
The main reason I'm looking for a new system is because I have a 2 pole vxl system but the new 4 pole won't work with the dumbo rc x6 controller I have so I need to find something else

I have had both and without getting into to much detail I can confidentially say that the castle 3800,4600,5700 1410 is sick. So much more torque and the ability to custom program it. The speed at quarter throttle blew me away compared to the Traxxas motor. I love the Traxxas brand but Castle got it.....

youre comparing apples to oranges. the vxl is twice the price because its twice as good as the one you compared it to. compare the Castle SCT 3800 system if you want to see a good comparison. Both systems have pros and cons. If you really want to have some fun, put the vxl esc on the 5700 castle 4 pole motor.....then you have the amperage and rpm that will blow your mind

I have just gone through 2 sidewinder 3. I have it paired with a valeon motor the older brushless one but has the rebuild kit on it and I have a 18t pinion and 86t 48p spur gear. 11.1v 3s lipo motor only ever gets warm same with esc but this one has gone out within 2 weeks of having it and on its second run on 3s. I do not like the sidewinder 3. Its a traxxas slash btw
You deff got your gearing wrong. I have beat the living shit out of 3 Sidewinder 3's on 3s and never 1 time had an issue. You went through 2? Lol, yah, you got something wrong. Ran these on slash, and even larger trucks.

I have the hot racing diffs as well with pro line trenchers. At this point I'm about to drop a 1/10 ESC in instead to run 3s motor is warm but I can still touch but ESC just not taking it.... Way hotter than motor.
I like the sidewinder overall. Fast speeds will have more current draw which the SV3 seems to handle better. The SCT version has a larger 1410 motor which is definitely better. Then have a larger pinion / smaller spur to gear up for more speed vs torque
castle system hands down is WAY better, durability, reliability and setup options kill traxxas!!!! I had 2 velineon esc's in my slash and they both blow!!!! second time, the damn thing caught on fire, luckily I was able to save the slash. after that I went with the castle and have been groovy ever since.
Any brushless ESC is compatible with any brushless motor so long as the specs will allow it to run without issues. I've personally run the velineon ESC with the castle motor and it worked fine.
That velineon system will compete with a 1410 with a Mamba Max pro... The 1410 will be a little better but they're in the same ballpark. 1406 just can't compete imo

The velineon motor is 3500KV, whereas the castle SV3 SCT comes with 3800KV, and normal SV3 comes with a variety between 4600-7000KV. I would choose the lowest KV as it gives more low end torque

That's one of my favourite things about the castle escs: they have programmable acceleration. Unfortunately the higher setting the harder it is on the motor.
Definitely want your esc secured to the chassis!!! Very poor advice to give! Especially if you run with the body off!!! If you want to keep your system safe always have the esc secured!!!
The Castle 1410 3800kv, is the motor you should be comparing the VXL to! Not the smaller 1406 motors, with the VXL ESC the Castle mamba max pro is a fair comparison ( better) in my Imo.
That vxl is not a better system they burn up all the time lol. Esc smokes bearings go out in the motor. See it at the track quit often. On castles website u can buy rebuild kits if your motor fries but I have a 3800 from the first gen sw combo and it still works fine. Motors go when there over heated or there crap quality like the vxl lol. Your vxl will have more torque then your castle motor because of the kv and size. Im sure if u didn't have a 4600 and up kv 1406 castle for this video and had the 3800 kv 1410 the rotors would be the same or closer and have the same to. The vxl is a 1410 can 3500 kv so either way you go the castle is a faster motor. I run a sw4 esc with a 3800 in my sc6 and I smash on slashes every weekend at the track. The sw3 and up are way more programmable then the 3 settings the vxl has with the Bluetooth module or the castle link. Sw is more of a bigginer race combo or experienced basher combo that wants to tune there model to get the best out of it. The vxl is entry level rtr combo for the person that wants a little more power from there rtr. My Traxxas spartan comes stock with castle products. There is a reason for that lol

Agreed. The newer castle motors use this crummy 13awg wire. I replaced them with some 12awg with 5.5 mm bullet connectors..motor ran much cooler

Get command stips . They hold 5lbs so they work perfect for the esc . Way better then two side tape.

Try a competition level motor and a esc, like fantom v3T and FR-10 PRO ESC on your hobby car, performance will greater than these , I have tested few
In the app you can change quite a lot with the velineon esc but you need sensors and a bluetooth upgrade for your remote.
When I got my Val slash new. on the first run on 3s it went into thermal cut off,then the esc took a crap so now I only run Castle creation.

I bought the 1406 4'600-KV for my B6M, and it was just not enough torque for me! So I put the 1410 1Y 3'800-KV in it, and was totally happy with it!!!

Neither, it all depends on your gearing. The motor with more torque will be able to be used in high speed setups without getting as hot though
You forgot to mention how unreliable the traxxas escs are, I have been through 6 traxxas escs in 5 years on 2s lipo with a fan on top.
I over heat the vxl ESC on 3s all the time it's annoying I shouldn't have to re gear every time switching from on road to off road..

I’m trying to make my rustler fast, no more off-roading just on road use what motor and esc combo should I get
I like the sidewinder overall. Fast speeds will have more current draw which the SV3 seems to handle better. The SCT version has a larger 1410 motor which is definitely better. Then have a larger pinion / smaller spur to gear up for more speed vs torque

castle system hands down is WAY better, durability, reliability and setup options kill traxxas!!!! I had 2 velineon esc's in my slash and they both blow!!!! second time, the damn thing caught on fire, luckily I was able to save the slash. after that I went with the castle and have been groovy ever since.

Not to be rude but the Traxxas esc is not really compatible with the castle
Any brushless ESC is compatible with any brushless motor so long as the specs will allow it to run without issues. I've personally run the velineon ESC with the castle motor and it worked fine.

That velineon system will compete with a 1410 with a Mamba Max pro... The 1410 will be a little better but they're in the same ballpark. 1406 just can't compete imo

The velineon motor is 3500KV, whereas the castle SV3 SCT comes with 3800KV, and normal SV3 comes with a variety between 4600-7000KV. I would choose the lowest KV as it gives more low end torque
But when they run head-to-head the castle has more tourk out of the hole and more top end.,...

I'm not a fan of vxl line up I prefer castle. Vxl esc does not have the punch like the castle. Vxl has a soft start.
That's one of my favourite things about the castle escs: they have programmable acceleration. Unfortunately the higher setting the harder it is on the motor.
Definitely not 150amps on that Traxxas esc.
Definitely want your esc secured to the chassis!!! Very poor advice to give! Especially if you run with the body off!!! If you want to keep your system safe always have the esc secured!!!

The vxl is only rated at 65 amps continuous and 100 Peak
1410 is the proper comparison. That motor is more of a on road and buggy car.

The Castle 1410 3800kv, is the motor you should be comparing the VXL to!
Not the smaller 1406 motors, with the VXL ESC the Castle mamba max pro is a fair comparison ( better) in my Imo.
Vxl is ok but sw3 fully program Abel no comparison rookie lol just messing with you rookies

That vxl is not a better system they burn up all the time lol. Esc smokes bearings go out in the motor. See it at the track quit often. On castles website u can buy rebuild kits if your motor fries but I have a 3800 from the first gen sw combo and it still works fine. Motors go when there over heated or there crap quality like the vxl lol. Your vxl will have more torque then your castle motor because of the kv and size. Im sure if u didn't have a 4600 and up kv 1406 castle for this video and had the 3800 kv 1410 the rotors would be the same or closer and have the same to. The vxl is a 1410 can 3500 kv so either way you go the castle is a faster motor. I run a sw4 esc with a 3800 in my sc6 and I smash on slashes every weekend at the track. The sw3 and up are way more programmable then the 3 settings the vxl has with the Bluetooth module or the castle link. Sw is more of a bigginer race combo or experienced basher combo that wants to tune there model to get the best out of it. The vxl is entry level rtr combo for the person that wants a little more power from there rtr. My Traxxas spartan comes stock with castle products. There is a reason for that lol
