Very informative video! Picked up a 2wd slash VXL that “wasn’t running right” for 100 dollars. Turns out it’s the two pole esc and a 4 pole motor! It’s got aluminum front carriers, big bore shocks and a nice proline caliber tire setup!
Capacitors not solenoids the braiding around the wires on the four pole is to protect the wires if The wires on the two pole rubbed against the shocks they would wear out too
A 2pole motor has better top end having fewer magnets allows better RPMs. It is also more efficient so for a longer racetrack with longer straights you will have higher speeds at the end of the straights and longer battery life for more voltage near the end of the race. The 4pole has more magnets giving you better torque but its a less efficient design so a 4pole motor is better for shorter tracks and shorter races. Also a 4pole motor is better for larger motors where a 2pole is better for smaller motors though most manufacturers make tiny motors like 28xx 24xx and especially 20xx motors with many poles because a smaller motor has inherently less magnetic strength so more poles makes up for this inherent loss of gauss strength. The 3355x has a totally different inhouse PCB design allowing it to run BOTH brushless and BRUSHED motors and can auto detect the motor type. Our tests (3 EE degree fellows) show the 3355x having more than the 200amp constant and a longer and higher peak amp rating than listed and explains the extra heat. It has higher temp rated OpAmps and lower res capacitors as well. That said the processor (which is what dictates the motor turn limit of an ESC, not the amp rating) cannot work with 4pole motors because it is a slower model, the 3355r has higher resistance capacitors but a faster processor so it can handle the higher hertz required to generate the exponentially higher number of power phases required by a 4pole motor. Therefore a 3355r will actually run a 2pole motor more efficiently than the 2 pole 3355x, although with slightly less amps and shorter burst amp time. All this ends up creating 2 completely different ESCs but with nearly equal performance. ☆BTW, If you are running say a famously powerful AstroFlight brushed Drag motor that will crush the latest brushless motors easily but cannot seem to find an ESC to handle this power hungry lil gem you can pick up the 3355x at RCMart fir $80 and kick brushless butt in a drag race as an AstroFlight Drag can only run for 30seconds or less! But you will win every drag race.
Cool video, I’m glad you gave the tip about the 4 pole motor not working with the 2 pole ESC. I had a brand new 2 pole motor and ESC that I bought for a failed project a long time ago so I’ve had them on hand for nearly 10 years, and recently a 7 year old 4 pole motor for my slash gave out and I threw the 2 pole one in there.
Good video no bs gets right to the point. Even love the proof videos of the trucks being chucked into the water . That was classic I got a laugh out of that. Keep up the good work and bash on.
Another way to tell the difference of the motors....I believe the old 2 pole is silver metal on the end of the can & the new 4 pole is black plastic on the end.
Super informative vid guys and awesome job on the edit/clips added, real fun to watch. Just bought a 4000kv Xerun 4-pole motor for my HPI Blitz, not sure how the rwd's gonna take it!
He might want to know the things on the back of the ESC or capacitors solenoids and the reason they're outside is the last longer the cooler you can keep them so by putting them inside the wear out faster. so you might actually want to learn about it a few things before you give advice on what they are
Great review bro. Thanks for the reminder on being able to send Motors & ESC. I'm just getting back into the Hobby from over 7 years, I haven't touched my Rustler vxl or Brand New TC4 till 2022. Still have one brand new old vxl esc motor.
What comes in rtr slash 4×4,what ever it is I got hopes of fit the still work system out of trashed slash and bolt in something driveable! Will it work or pipedream
I was running mr stampede 4x4 vxl brushless and I have had it for 3 plus years and I was just messing around with it and driving it up stuff and it starts to smoke and I don’t know why. Anyone have a answer
Is it just mine or does the 4 pole jolt when it starts? My friend has a 2 pole and its really nice and smooth when starting up. Mine gets moving after about 10% throttle, therefore making it "jolt" when it gets going. Let me know if i should post a video explaining what i mean.
The 4 pole motor rolls harder or engages harder than the 2 pole motor because of the stronger magnets in the 4 pole, it has higher resistance to roll. There could be other problems with your car depending on the severity of the jolt and how hard it rolls. Naturally the 4 pole does roll harder than the 2 pole, so based on the amount of throttle applied before engaging, it sounds like your car is fine. However can you still post a video explaining further what you mean? Thanks.
2 pole motor allows for both endbells to be removed (rebuild) as the 4 poll you can only take off one side the side with the cap on it. That's an easy way to tell.
Great video. Hoping you can help with a question...Should there be difference between the 2 motors if you turn the shaft by hand? My 4 pole version doesn’t turn smoothly, it seems to ‘ratchet’ turn in small increments...is this normal or is mine defective?
I just ran into the same issue today. Shaft does not free-spin. I called Traxxas and they said its not supposed to free-spin like the original vxl motor. I installed it, it ran but very noisy and sounds like its grinding or running very harsh. Sure doesnt seem NORMAL to me.
@@montimarley915 hey Demontrey, Im hoping youre correct because im concerned that the extra tension or torque will cause it to overheat or shred the gears. Was yours louder or sounded harsh compared to the 2 pole? Im just nervous about this new friggin motor.
Typically Normal but it should still be smooth and not have any grinding feel to it at all. If does it's in need of a rebuild kit $13 pretty cheap from traxxas.
I got both..the 4 pole is faster.. all depends on what you wanna do..I'd rather the 4 pole for street and speed but for dirt and etc grab the 2 pole ..
Capacitors, not solenoids, Plastic braiding not Kevlar, and finally Traxxas's term "waterproof" doesn't mean "submergable". They mean that you can run a hose on it and not get any water in the electronics versus regular water resistant electronics that will get wet just by running it on a damp day.
How you manage to contact them for part problems. My esc just burst to flames for no reason. :( I just had bought a 3cell for it too. Now I'm all salty and had to store my battery away until I get enough for new esc
Great video! I had tons of problems with my old 2 pole. On the original version the little cups would break off the ESC. The 4 pole is AWESOME.

exactly. I take the capacitor version any day too. 3500 4 pole way better.

I like this Velineon Systeme great power

I wish them fans had a screen guard on them. rocks get in there .
can you run a 3s lipo on the 2 pole system??
Informative!I hate the wires on the 4 pole even if they dont rub on anything.

Id kill for any of those brushless motor and esc
Those are capacitors not solenoids, helps reduce burst current draw from battery
what batteries do run
What are the prices and part numbers?
Can you put the 4 pole on a 2wd?
Maxie 0210 Yep!

ACTUAL pros and cons dude?
Punch and top speed?
Does the 4pole accurate faster
My wires have broke to
Sorry to hear that man, it seems to be a common problem on the 4 pole motors
I bought mine used. I cannot tell for the life of me which motor I have. Wires match the 2 pole, but according to the rebuild kit its the 4 pole.
2 pole motor allows for both endbells to be removed (rebuild) as the 4 poll you can only take off one side the side with the cap on it. That's an easy way to tell.
Hi just wondering is there any power difference between the two motors, cheers 😊👍
Yes there is! The 2 pole motors have less all-around power especially the low end, off the line grunt compared with the 4-pole badboy.
How fast was the 4pole ?????
Good info man 👍
Thanks, glad we can provide good info, as that is one of our goals.
You learn something new all the time. It helps.
Those are capacitors on the 4 pole not solenoids. The 2 pole also doesn't have capacitors.
Great video. Hoping you can help with a question...Should there be difference between the 2 motors if you turn the shaft by hand? My 4 pole version doesn’t turn smoothly, it seems to ‘ratchet’ turn in small increments...is this normal or is mine defective?
good question...I have a brushed motor that does that and I thought it was weird but. interesting that yours did too
Normal....the more poles the more torque....

Jesus with the camera work! I'm cool with free hand but fuck! I thought I was watching a ping pong match!
Traxxas upgraded those three capacitors you say you don't like, that's what caused the fire and why the new one has no issues...
Will McLendon my friends 4 pole esc went up in smoke the 2 pole gets hotter but it's better
Better you say
I got both..the 4 pole is faster.. all depends on what you wanna do..I'd rather the 4 pole for street and speed but for dirt and etc grab the 2 pole ..
this is all i wanted to know! which is faster
dude that shock tower rubbing on there is Not the motors fault. lol
Nice!
What do you think about castle motor
Which one is faster 2 pole or 4 pole ?
4 pole more Torque. Nearly 2x as much.

Why did his esc start smoking? Mine are all good
Subbed
Man clean your trucks 😮
Dude just had same problem 2020, go figure
Dude keep your camera stationary. Your video was making me dizzy af.
Clean your damn truck man!!!!!
Lol
Traxxas sent me a new one no problem..
How you manage to contact them for part problems. My esc just burst to flames for no reason. :( I just had bought a 3cell for it too. Now I'm all salty and had to store my battery away until I get enough for new esc
Those are Capacitors. Not celinoids. just FYI.
You had a faulty motor
thats false everything u said is false
Get arrma. Send in a fried motor or esc get a new one for free
Rookies
I'm dizzy
Please take this video down.👍🏻
2 pole system is garbadge
