Amazing vid, great info!! I have been looking at the 1717 & 2028 for my new speed run build on the Arrma Limitless I'm ordering. I almost went with the 2028 1100kv because of the incredible torque & ability to maintain cool. But I think the 1717 would be more fit, specially if I do decide to go with a dual motor setup. If I don't find it to meet my need, I can always toss it into my Typhon 6S & then go with the 2028 in the future if I find i need more power to break 140mph on the Limitless. Again, thanks for such a great informational vid w no BS 😎👍👍
Thanks on that! Glad you enjoyed the video! So you can actually be more affordable and still exceed 140-150 mph with the 1717 1650kv. The 1100kv just gets the vehicle up to speed a little quicker and more efficiently. Downside to the 1100kv is that you'll need to do decent modifications to get it to fit. Dual motor setups are sick! But why use two 1717 motors when the wattage of a single 2028 is MORE than both of them combined? Save space and weight. It looks cool but isn't feasible.
@@InnovationRC Thanks, you're absolutely right. The 2028 will definitely be more cost effective & lighter than twin 1717's. The only reason I even considered the twin motor setup was because it would just be something sweet to add to my collection lol. And with the 2028, like you said, it does need some mods. The motor mount alone runs for about ~$50. I think I will definitely go with the 1717. Maybe buy the Mamba x8 1717 1650kv combo, sell the ESC on eBay & then grab the Mamba xlx2 since I can't seem to find the xlx2 with the 1717 1650kv combo. Just curious how that worked out? Burn up or stay cool? I’ve had the 1717 get super hot in the limitless. Was thinking of dropping kv and upping voltage/gearing.
@@donaldfowler7125 I managed to get it up to 122mph so far with the XLX2. Got in a total of 3 runs before the motor got warm, ~165-170F. The ESC barely broke a sweat, didn't get past 123F if my memory serves me correctly. I just sold the 1717 1650kv motor & purchased the 1721 2400kv motor. I put it in my stretched Typhon 6S first. On 4S, it pushed 99mph barely tapping 100% throttle. 3 runs & it was super cool, 102F after 3rd run. The XLX2 didn't get past 113F. Pulled 328A with only 1.07v ripple. As others have said, great break down. I know some of this already but seeing all motors from the same brand the differences helps bods like me who, until recently only use cheaper motor/esc combos...maybe you can do a similar review with equivalent ESCs, factoring in drag breaks, throttle punches etc and which ones would make the crossover as a great esc for say drifit rc or crawling? The Mamba X will surely fit both of your criteria. You can adjust drag brake on it, sensored capable to crawl with. Solid esc to run in anything up to 140 amps as well
Love the breakdown..I know! A couple of years behind the times but..... Have you ever compared TP vs HW vs Castle. And what's your thoughts on the other 2.
So. Buried deep on Castle's site is a blog on speed runs. Their motors CAN handle what's printed on the cans (ie. 100,000 RPM) BUT with extra precautions. The recommended max is for the average enthusiast.
They limit the motors legitimate potential by adding a voltage rating. The 1100kv motor is max 8s, they say. Reality the max rpm is 45k, so that is 10-12s category. That is per example. I do NOT recommend running the motors over recommended voltage because it voids warranty and support. For anything I do on my channel doesn't need to over amplitude the stats of their electronics. Stock voltage does way more than enough for me!

Great information for motor selection. Wanted to eventually convert my summit to a badger like the erevo 2.0 what motor esc and gear set up should I run castle of course?
I would look into a mamba monster X 8s with the 2200kv motor. I wouldn't go 1717 because the summit has a plastic gear switching transmission I believe. 1717 will obliterate it haha
Thank you so much for the info bro, I'm new to the game and this was very helpful! I'm very ignorant when coming to motor and ESC upgrades, I have an ARRMA Mojave and I love it. I was only looking for a mild upgrade for it so I bought a Castle 1512 and a Mamba monster X 25.2 volt ESC.....I hope I did ok, as like I said I'm just looking for a minor to mild upgrade. I have not installed it yet but I'll leave a comment when I do 👍🏼 Thanks again for the great videos! 🤘🏼
Cool comparison on Castle motors, My first Castle ESC and Motor was a Copperhead 10 with a 1415 2,400KV (5mm shaft version) and i plan to put a Castle Mamba Monster X 8s with 1717 1,650KV in both my XO-1 and my future Infraction V2 i also might put it in my future X-Maxx and my Sledge if a 8th scale combo fails.
Hey bruh, gret video. Here's my question: Project Kraton 1/5 EXB: I purchased the Castle XLX2/ 800KV and Hobbywing Max 5/1100KV, which would you go with? I installed the XLX2 combo with stock spur gear with Saga 32tooth pinion, am I geared best for speed and power combo? Thanks Awesome video!
Great video, thanks for the information. I’m, looking to get an ARRMA EXB and trying to decide between the 800kv & 1100kv motors. Still a little confused but I know more than I did after watching your video, thanks.
Castle is my favorite. I use the sidewinder 3 2200kv combo in my rustler. My mini revo has the sidewinder 3 combo with 5700 kv and another with the 4600kv and the last one is my erevo with the momba monster combo. Not sure of the KV without taking it apart. The easy programming is why I only use castle.
It's funny you say to use 12s for the 2028 800kv motor to get the power and torque but castle doesn't sell a 12s esc. According to castle, you shouldn't even use the 2028 1100kv motor with the xlx2, but they'll sure as hell sell you that combo. I talked to castle because the xlx2 I have only lasted two runs before giving up the ghost. When I filled out the rma info, I mistakenly put a motor that I no longer have which was a leopard 58113 1050kv. Unfortunately that motor was destroyed about 4-5 mos ago from a crash, but castle did tell me that motor was too big kv wise for the xlx2. I did correct my mistake when talking to castle and told them what motor I was using which is a leopard 58113 870kv. At the moment, I am waiting on an esc to be delivered, the R-snake flier 3-16s 70v 400a My set-up 1) Losi dbxl-e 2.0 2) leopard 58113 870kv 3) Zeee 4s 9000mah 100c batts x2 3)Aluminum upgrades- Diff housings and mounts F/R, rear chassis brace. Total weight at the time was 37 lbs. Now for what happened, I received the xlx2 on Monday and installed it. Tues I ran it for about 10 mins no problems. I was going to do a full run on Weds but it stopped after about 10 mins of run time, all on flat ground, no jumps, no rollovers. According to the logs, on the run it failed on, Max amps were 340, ripple voltage was about 1.5 or less right up to the moment of failure, then it went to 3.5. Now according to castle, That's way too many amps, but yet castle bragged to have had 400+ amps during their testing. When I get the xlx2 back, it'll be put in storage for a back-up.
Great vid. I watched it a long time ago. Wondering what scores you would give the Castle 1512 2650kv motor? I figured this would be the premium 3s motor for Arrma 3s, Traxxas Hoss, and 4x4 Slashes, and Losi LMT?? What you think
Subscribed! I am currently working on an arrma vendetta. Based off my research, I am about to pull the trigger on purchasing a Castle MMX8s Esc with a 1717 motor. What I intend to do with the Vendetta is just speedruns. No bashing. In your experience if I run this on 8s and utilize the same gearing I have now, which is a 44T Spur w/slipper eliminated and a 32T pinion. This thing should absolutely fly? Or am I setting myself up for a disaster? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Please!🙏
Go with a 2200kv and an X8s. The 17 series is too thick and won't fit. The 2200 is great to run on 4/6s that won't be too big to fit. Thanks for subscribing!
@@InnovationRC I really thought the 1717 would fit and I got it today and it looks like it is more of an issue of where do I put the esc. Even putting it on top of the receiver box won’t cut it. I have a v2 limitless brand new in the box. I guess I’ll put it in that Crap!
Great video. Question, I have a e-revo 1/16 and Im looking to acheieve 70+mph, which one of these motors would you recommend. I know the video is old and Im sure there have been upgrades to the ones above, but was just curious on your thoughts. As well as what ESC, Battery and gearing to achieve that speed. Thanks!
Like Always Brandon, awesome info , saving this vid for references, , I got the Mamba Monster X 8s finally waiting on a motor from JJ Customs, stay safe brother
Awesome break down!! So fitting for me,, I just picked up kraton exb and was about to order a 1515 2200, but saw a 1512-2650kv for same price. What's the difference and would either be better for my application?
First of all, thank you for the great videos you make! They are full of information and what great speeds! Just a small question. What gear ratio do you recommend for this new set on the limitless? MAMBA MONSTER X 8S, 33.6V ESC W / 1717-1650KV thanks in advance, Rik
#InnovationRC- - Great break down on the Castle motors Brandon! Question, I want to beef up my 3s Arrma Typhon for speed runs. If I went with the Castle - Mamba Monster X 25.2V, 1800KV Sensored Motor - would be a good set up for my 3s Typhon?
Thanks Brandon..... excellent video. I have a version one E Revo 1/10 vxl and just smoked my stock 2200kv motor due to improper gearing after mounting up some larger diameter/ heavier belted tires, so I'm in the market for a new motor now. What motor would you recommend that will be good for bashing and speed, one that will give me just overall versatility. Still running the stock 6s capable ESC which is a castle. I'm new to the RC world so I appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
So can you help me uderstand kv ratings? It would seem to me that a higher kv rating would be a faster car. So why does the kv rating go down as the motors get bigger? Wouldn't you want them higher? What am I missing? Great video though, very educational!
Great video and great information I’m thinking about setting up a typhon basher do you think the castle 2650kv motor paired with the mamba monster x 6s esc will be a good set to go with to bash?
Awesome explanation, thank you. Q? I have a rustler 4x4 ultimate and just got a carbon fiber chassis for it to upgrade and bunch other stuff. Which motor would be the ultimate fit with for speed? Thank you in advance., also been lookin at hoobywing max8 2200kv
What would you recommend for a Fireteam, preferably run on 6s? Castle or otherwise. Currently running the stock setup on 6s and would like more oomph for speed bashing without getting so hot. No big jumps, just baby bumps and fast running on rough terrain.
@@InnovationRC Geared properly and running 6s would this likely get me more top end or just more mid range torque? I think I'd be fine with just more torque, it's all ready got decent speed for a big vehicle.
So I'm getting a 30-degree North Losi 5T clone and I'm going to be running the castle 800kv but I came across a great deal on a lightly-used sensorless 800kv and I was wondering if you could talk about your experiences advantages disadvantages between the two(sensored vs sensorless) and keep in mind I'm a Basher I'm not going to be using the sensor at all I don't care to so the sensor doesn't matter but what improvements does the newer one have or will I see little to no difference
I have a couple questions for you, when you ran your Kraton 8s with the TP motor in it you pushed it off, what was the reason for that? also I bought a TP 5660 1356kv motor and waiting on my xlx2 to come in. Is there a issue with the motor in regard to low speed or starting out? and should I switch to the caste 1100kv. Whats your thoughts? thank you. Videos very informative. thx again
The reason is that the tp motor isn't sensored. So it cogs horribly from the start. Violently shaking the drivetrain, that I don't want. With a sensored castle motor it's smooth sailing as I slowly get on it. The castle 1100kv is an awesome motor for big vehicles. Have no idea why guys are sticking them in smaller ones when a lighter duty can do the same like a 1717 1650. With less weight too. Very glad you like the videos! I certainly appreciate that you enjoy them
@@InnovationRC Thank you for the reply. Do you happen to know if castle is coming out with a 2028 in a little higher kv motor like 1250-1400 anytime soon?
Hi great video thank you so much,,I live in Orlando Florida plus I’m new to Rc...That said I know temperature is the main reason you guys or the new people ruin motors or their entire set up’s..I’m going to buy the Arram EXB,,what I want is one and done..Not sure you knew what I mean so I’ll explain,, so when I’m done putting the motor the electronics plus everything else I won’t have upgrade envy..I priced one setup it was close to $1,800 and I’m not sure it will fit in the EXB,,I Should say that price includes the truck..
If you want a one and done setup, go Mamba monster X 8s esc with the 1717 1650kv motor. As I stated in the video that's the big block upgrade for 1/8 vehicles. The mmx8s esc has thrown my Kraton 8s around like a rag doll. In a vehicle half the weight? PERFECT!
The rating on most motors are actually underrated to have people stay within a performance threshold so it doesn't void the warranty or consistently destroy the rotor
I'm waiting on an infraction v2, and I know I'm going to upgrade. So what do you think xlx2 combo or tp big can with xlx2. Bashing and running a little over 100mph.
I want to upgrade my typhon 3s v3 electronics and this was helpful i running 100 amp esc and 3200 kv blx motor stock gearing so im thinking the third or fourth motor you mentioned would be a good fit
Hey Fellas I have a 1717-1650 kv motor installed in a Arrma Felony. The motor gets pretty hot. I'm using the standard 16 tooth pinion. Will I need to go to a smaller pinion to regulate the heat? Maybe install cooling fans? I actually burned one of these motors up and I dont wanna do it again.
Thanks a lot for this great vid. I am looking for a sensored motor for my 8S Super Rock Rey. The stock motor has 750kv, 16t pinion, 37t spur. Unfortunately the 800kv castle motor is too long so the 1717 you mentioned might be an idea. Any recommendations on gearing? Even an 11t it might still be too high.
Innovation RC thanks for the quick reply. I am having a hard time finding one that fits (mod 1.5, 5mm shaft, 10t), and then I’d probably also need a custom motor mount. I am still hoping that one day castle builds a sensored motor that’s shorter than the 800kv. I get a lot of cogging with the castle 8S esc and the stock 750kv sensorless motor. ;-)
Which motor would you recommend for a 1/8th scale e revo ( 6s power) for maximum speed, the 15, 17 or 20 (stock can run up to 70mph)? Also for a 1/10th scale maxx with belted 3.8 inch trencher tires ( max stock speed is 60mph 4s) (4s-6s lipo)? They are both around the 11-15 pound range. If possible I would also like to have good torque and acceleration but speed on both on-road and off-road is mainly what I am looking for since either of the three motors should be able to provide enough power for the cars. The Kv rating as well as the motor and esc is what I need to know.
I’m building a competition jumper out of an E-REVO 2.0 and I think you just talked me into the Castle 2200kv motor. The crazy part is that I’m gonna be using the new Mamba XLX2 ESC!!🤣😂🤣 Barely fits in the damn car!!
Which one of these would you recommend most for upgrading a slash 4x4 from a brushed motor ..? I see many options but I don’t know what route to go ..?
Hi Brandon.. quick question. I have the 1415 2400kv and a Mamba X esc . I plan on putting the system in a proline pro mt 4x4. Will that be a good setup for that truck or should I just put it in my Traxxas hoss? Where would it work better?
According to your video.the 1717 is it good replacement for the stock spectrum setup in the felony? I see a lot of them paired up with the monster x 8s.

Great Video!
This would also be nice with tp motor! And VOR which kind of stuff you recommend castle and tp motors!
The future will have many more of these videos!
Nice
Cool comparison on Castle motors, My first Castle ESC and Motor was a Copperhead 10 with a 1415 2,400KV (5mm shaft version) and i plan to put a Castle Mamba Monster X 8s with 1717 1,650KV in both my XO-1 and my future Infraction V2 i also might put it in my future X-Maxx and my Sledge if a 8th scale combo fails.
Hey bruh, gret video. Here's my question:
Project Kraton 1/5 EXB:
I purchased the Castle XLX2/ 800KV and Hobbywing Max 5/1100KV, which would you go with?
I installed the XLX2 combo with stock spur gear with Saga 32tooth pinion, am I geared best for speed and power combo?
Thanks Awesome video!
Thanks for all the information. I'm just now starting to upgrade my cars to brushless so very much needed info.
Great video thanks for the info much appreciated. I have a Redcat blackout xte Pro was wondering if I could possibly run a 15 15 and that set up?
At the moment, I am waiting on an esc to be delivered, the R-snake flier 3-16s 70v 400a
My set-up
1) Losi dbxl-e 2.0
2) leopard 58113 870kv
3) Zeee 4s 9000mah 100c batts x2
3)Aluminum upgrades- Diff housings and mounts F/R, rear chassis brace.
Great info fam! Thanks again for our talk on IG 💪🏾💯
Awesome, you'll love the mmx8s! It's my favorite ESC currently.
@@InnovationRC Hooah brother
Awesome break down!!definitely well needed knowledge 👍👍👊👊🍻
Awesome break down!! So fitting for me,, I just picked up kraton exb and was about to order a 1515 2200, but saw a 1512-2650kv for same price. What's the difference and would either be better for my application?
2200 would be way better for the Kraton. I would go with the 1717 though. That's the big block of the 2200kv. Perfect for bashing
Thanks man, I would but the 2200 combo is already at top of the budget. Decisions, decisions, decisions. Thanks though, again great video
First of all, thank you for the great videos you make! They are full of information and what great speeds! Just a small question. What gear ratio do you recommend for this new set on the limitless?
MAMBA MONSTER X 8S, 33.6V ESC W / 1717-1650KV
thanks in advance,
Rik
Appreciate those words for sure. What do you ultimately decide to do with your limitless? Gear ratio depends on that
@@InnovationRC
I just want to drive straight with speed. Thanks in advance!
I have an infraction stock ..what motor would be best for bashing ..not really into speed runs but I want my truck 🛻 a few miles faster
So i’ve done some research and after owning my xmaxx for a little while, I think the 1717 1260KV would be awesome.
Appreciate that for surean. Lower kv = more torque than rpm/volt
Higher kv = more rpm/volt, less torque
Brandon, appreciate it very much for your explanation!!
Glad you absorbed some knowledge! Appreciate you watching likewise
Yeah Very Nice vidéo Many information importante 2200for speed an 6s its very good i wait 1717 in france 🇫🇷 for my limitless in 8s🏎🔥🔥
You will love the 1717
Great video!! I'm new to RC's I bought the E-Revo 2.0 for my first wondering what motor an esc would be perfect for it
I'd check out the 2200kv motor. Can get it in a combo with an amazing esc, mamba monster 2 or X. Either one along with that motor is amazing
@@InnovationRC how will it compare to stock?
Great video and great information I’m thinking about setting up a typhon basher do you think the castle 2650kv motor paired with the mamba monster x 6s esc will be a good set to go with to bash?
What was your gearing in the limitless when you hit 100 back to back 5 times?
What setup would u recommend for the xmaxx 8s?
1410 3800kv is the most popular for 1/10 scale. Surprised it's not in this video.
I don't own all of the kv motors but I did state where it lies regardless. 3800 I'd the most common as you stated
I'd probably look into that 2200kv on 6s. Or, get a 1512 2650kv and run 4-5s to keep it light
What would you recommend for a Fireteam, preferably run on 6s? Castle or otherwise. Currently running the stock setup on 6s and would like more oomph for speed bashing without getting so hot. No big jumps, just baby bumps and fast running on rough terrain.
1650kv 1717 motor with a Castle mamba monster x8s esc combo
@@InnovationRC Geared properly and running 6s would this likely get me more top end or just more mid range torque? I think I'd be fine with just more torque, it's all ready got decent speed for a big vehicle.
Really really great video. Thank you for taking the time to show guys like me who love this hobby and learning. Thank you rc god 👍
Nice review bud!
Thanks man!
great video i have the 2200kv on the way for my rustler 4x4 vxl. what gear set up do you recommend for speed?
I'd go with mod 1 gears, 20 pinion and 40 spur
ok i will give that gear set up a try.what do you think about 28 pinion and 36 spur on 6s thanks for replying
Really nice video. I’ve learned so much. Thank you 👍
I have a couple questions for you, when you ran your Kraton 8s with the TP motor in it you pushed it off, what was the reason for that? also I bought a TP 5660 1356kv motor and waiting on my xlx2 to come in.
PERFECT!
Idk if i should go with the 1415 or 1515 in a stampede on 4s for bashing
What do you Think?
I'd go 2200. I'd use mod 1 gears so that you can gear higher than the regular 48 pitched gears
Great video! my friend use 1512 1800kv with 6s lipo on kraton 6s and has no issues but manual says that its 3-4s capable. how can it take 6s?
The rating on most motors are actually underrated to have people stay within a performance threshold so it doesn't void the warranty or consistently destroy the rotor
Great video would a 18pinon or a 13tpinion be a good setup with the 3800 castle creation Combo in a rustler 4x4vxl?
I'd say you can go smack in the middle of those gears for all around use. Go with a 15t. Or run 20t and run 2s all day!
I'm waiting on an infraction v2, and I know I'm going to upgrade. So what do you think xlx2 combo or tp big can with xlx2. Bashing and running a little over 100mph.
what up man question 1717 how would you set it up for drag
Probably for 8s I'd go 24/39
Nice e34 wagon 😎
I want to upgrade my typhon 3s v3 electronics and this was helpful i running 100 amp esc and 3200 kv blx motor stock gearing so im thinking the third or fourth motor you mentioned would be a good fit
Brandon how do you think the 1717 1650 compares to the 1520 1650?
17 series is a little heavier duty, same speeds but will have a little more torque over the 1520, but the 1520 is no slouch either. Very similar
Great video. Very informative
Thanks Anthony!
i want the 17 series :)
It's an awesome class size to go with
Hey Fellas I have a 1717-1650 kv motor installed in a Arrma Felony. The motor gets pretty hot. I'm using the standard 16 tooth pinion. Will I need to go to a smaller pinion to regulate the heat? Maybe install cooling fans? I actually burned one of these motors up and I dont wanna do it again.
Did you figure it out? This is what I'm putting on my felony. Buy if it's doing that mabye not.
@@ant9072 Yes I actually installed the 27 tooth speed gear and 4 game changer fans. Perfect!
@@gsizzlepmg thanks for the help! Just got the same motor for my felony.
I would probably run maybe 10 on the pinion and invest in some fan/ heatsink combo for it.
I'd go 1515 because a 17 series is too thick to fit in the motor mount
What motor in your personal opinion would you choose for a Kraton 6s EXB, the 2200kv or the 1650kv motor? I can't decide between the 2.
1650. Bigger can, more torque. Less heat issues than 2200. Run it on 6s
im still looking to convert my slash 4x4 lcg to a 8th scale truck good info , i like ,
I love the way you rate it
I’m building a competition jumper out of an E-REVO 2.0 and I think you just talked me into the Castle 2200kv motor. The crazy part is that I’m gonna be using the new Mamba XLX2 ESC!!🤣😂🤣 Barely fits in the damn car!!
What do you think will push the castle 1650 better? The spektrum 150amp 6s esc or the mamba monster x 120amp 6s esc?
Next time a video with esc’s
You'll get that as well 😉
“Redundancy” you sure bro?
Also doing batteries would be nice
Which one of these motors would make my trx4 with stock gearing run 50ish mph? And fit of course
im thinking on getting a motor for my xmaxx 8s what motor you think is good..i think the the last one on you showed is the one ill get..
So which series is the best bashing motor for a 1/10 scale
To bash? I'd go with a 14 series lower kv. Probably 1412 3200! Not shown in this video but it's newer
Okay so what motor should I get for my rustler if I want to go faster and I drive on dirt an street?
I'd go with a 1410 3800kv motor. Run it sensored!
Which one of these would you recommend most for upgrading a slash 4x4 from a brushed motor ..? I see many options but I don’t know what route to go ..?
7700 is exactly what I wanted thanks fo reassuring me
I’m buying a limitless and I’m going to buy the 1717 motor, what gearing should I run? target speed is 150mph
What do you think about the 1717 in a 8th scale drag application?
I think you'll have all the torque you need for 132 feet. Run it on 8s in gear reduction? 29/39. Wicked torque and rpm
Thanks bro I appreciate it💯
I notice that you can't buy these motors separately? So you need their esc with it right?
Thank you! Looking for up grade on my XMaXX 8 s! And video helped a lot!
Hi Brandon.. quick question. I have the 1415 2400kv and a Mamba X esc . I plan on putting the system in a proline pro mt 4x4. Will that be a good setup for that truck or should I just put it in my Traxxas hoss? Where would it work better?
What's up, yes you can. I'd run a heatsink on it to keep temps lower though.
What would be a good upgrade for the Axial SCORE for increased speed without sacrificing torque?
Can I run the Spektrum 160A esc with the 1250kv in a Kraton 6s? What size pinions if possible?
P.S. I appreciate this video. Learned alot.
Absolutely, the 1250kv is the exact size of the 1717 shown @10:00
According to your video.the 1717 is it good replacement for the stock spectrum setup in the felony? I see a lot of them paired up with the monster x 8s.
Which one will be good for drag racing with the drag slash
Will the 1717 fit in my Maxx? I was planning on putting that in with the mamba x esc
I got the 1515Y in my Arrma Granite it's a Total bad ass
Will the 1st one fit in a tamiya tl01? And what kind of speeds ya think will be there.
