Classic Tinley rambles. Love it! Well done for Glasto Rich. I was there, front(ish) and centre but I couldn't drink throughout the whole performance as you weren't on mute ;-)
Hi nick, was enjoying your chat here : ) I heard you say about modular and clocking and I have to say, I have more than 5 years with modular and I love it. Important is to say that you can keep it very simple or get hyper complicated. Just wanted to say that it can be really easy and will not take much time to learn, is pretty straight forward. I record tons of tracks all the time without getting lost patching. Always annoy your reviews and happy to hear you here! All the best! : )
Still have my Portastudio. Hoping the rubber hasn't rotted away as I'd like to play old 4-tracks. It has those channel outs on the side, useful for archive to a daw.
The Mirage is still loved to this day (same case with a lot of gear, but yeah), and it is because of the sound. A lot of people like lo-fi sounds, myself included, and as you mentioned, it's also a hybrid with nice analog filters. Its UI isn't great, though, and its operation is what's put me off getting one
Wish I still had my Ensoniq ASR-10. Of course if I had one now I would cringe at how limited it was but at the time it opened up so many musical possibilities. It was so inspiring! I still dream about the workflow of the sequencer. I was so fast and proficient on that sequencer. I'm probably light years faster on Ableton but man, it's got a place in my heart that ASR-10.
Shane Sterling Up to 8 samples layered, LP + HP filters in series, 1, 2, 3, or 4 poles, LFOs, 3 EGs per voice, all the standard sample functions, the sequencer (as you mentioned), 50+ effects, etc - I wouldn't call that limited, heh. It's basically a full featured synth as well as a sampler. It's a beast
I still have a DPS12i. People remember the MPC's but they never remember those kick ass portable studio's Akai put out. They were way ahead of their time with the features. Sadly I'd still use mine if it's kiss of death wasn't the fact it has a 20gig hd (was huge back than) that can no longer be found. Once it's full you have to start deleting old songs.

@21:14 "How is this different from that"? It's not much different... Elektron just needed to make a more affordable entry into their devices than what they had been offering at around $1500 per kit. The Digitakt is half that price at $749. I have both an Octatrack and an Analog Rytm and feel pretty pissed that the Digitakt can actually sample and is half the price of the Analog Rytm which can only playback samples. Add to that the fact that the Aurturia Drumbrute is also an analog drum machine at half the cost of the Analog Rytm has got me thinking of selling my Analog Rytm.
But if you buy a Digitakt + a drumbrute, that is about the same price as the money you would get from selling a Rytm. Also the drumbrute lacks patch memories. And I've heard quite a few complaints about some of the sounds in the Drumbrute, but if the Rytm is any better, I don't know. Elektron gear, in general isn't cheap.
Jon Holstein I don't have a problem with their prices... I have a problem with them undercutting their established user base with redundant gear that's cheaper and has more features. Makes me feel like I got screwed just 3 years after the Rytm was released. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the Digitakt if it didn't have sampling capabilities and was just a basic playback only sample based drum machine.
Ryan Nolan oh shit you are not joking. I just saw another video somewhere else that showed the new versions of the Analog 4 and Analog Rtym and they said they added sampling to the Rtym. These fuckers better offer some kind of free upgrade for early adopters of the Rtym which only just came out 3 years ago.

Everyone loves a Tinley ramble.
Tinley rambles are just as entertaining and interesting as Ty rants, I think.
Always a pleasure to hear Nick and the panel talk gear, thank you.

Would also like to say well done to Rich. What an amazing performance at Glastonbury.
little step back into my youth with some of the gear being discussed - great show guys

One of the best episodes yet!! Love when you guys discuss old kit and how you've used it :)
I've gone from liking Rich to loving him !! :)
Well done at Glasto, Rich.
Picked up a working TASCAM 424 for $50 at the pawn shop 4 weeks ago!!!! I’m so happy
Haha, wow. John Van Eaton sold me my first guitar, drum machine and keyboard back in Cincinnati many, many years ago.

I want a lot of old stuff back, Korg Z1, maybe TG77, Yamaha MT4X...

Shane Sterling best keyboard ever made.
I still have the Juno-106 I grew up playing, but sadly it needs some repairs. I wish I'd kept my Roland mc303. It was such fun to work with.
I think I first came across Niles Rodgers with route 66 mix. Didn't know who he was until many years later
Hello Nick, Do you have any inside news on the new Elektron Analog Four MKII?
Hope you get one to review. Cheers and thanks for all the fish!
Best title ever.
Hey Mark you have a Yamaha MT4X. I have one too and it's awesome. The only cassette recorder with separate outs
And the Octatrack Mk2 still has that short throw fader apparently.
Oh well.
Couple of rackmounted emaxs I even have the floppies and pedals!
One of my life's regrets is trading my Tascam 424 mkII for a bag of weed...
lmao

When's that Elektron Digitakt review coming?
I think Nick said in the pre-show Elektron were coming to Sonic Labs on Monday
Still not there
