Well, you’re set to embark on the most thrilling adventure that will deliver the highest of highs and some of the most frustrating lows. Have fun with it! Congratulations on just getting to where you are now!
If only I was smart enough to become a pilot 30 years ago. I don't care about the money. I just wanted to fly. Congratulations to you. You got life by the balls.
Hi Garrett. I just retired with 52 years in aviation. Forty five of it with major airlines, three years general aviation, and four military. I was in maintenance, so it’s nice to see your side of it. Thanks for keeping me in the game. I love it. Best of luck for you. Seniority, it’s everything in aviation.
I just started flight school 2 months ago. Word of advice, get started on the ground knowledge! Get any of the written exams out of the way that you can. For me, the flying has come easy but the ground knowledge is an insane amount to start to conquer. I am at an accelerated program but I would imagine it's a lot regardless.
@@chaseseuffert3551 I'll be in an accelerated program as well. I lucked out and met an instructor who is helping me with ground knowledge prior to starting. Gives him practice instructing and me the ability to learn beforehand.
8.6 hours in the logbook so far at my little Part 61. 52 years old and took the FAA a year to make sure I could get a 1sr class medical, so you can bet I’ll take advantage of some of this premium pay once I get in the cockpit.
came across this video because I have a career project for class, and I chose cargo pilot as my career, I've actually learned so much about the job compared to what I knew. Who knows, I might go for it and try to be one. Great video 👍🏼

I have a long way to go to be in this position (I’m commissioning into the marine corps as a pilot if I’m selected next year and I’ll have a 8 year service obligation after flight school so about 10 years total) but if I’m not selected I’m definitely going to go this route and fly commercially
try naval aviator as well if you don’t get selected on the marine board. must have at least 2.5 gpa and astb score of 7’s and above and you auto qual for selection
@@toegum7451 SNA was my original first choice but my navy officer recruiter just doesn’t have the time for me, I think he covers too much area honestly or is too busy in general. MC oso has always been on point even though I took a break from the process so that’s just where I’m trying now, still studying for the ASTB but my gpa is 3.0 in finance so as long as my scores are solid I’m confident I’ll be some sort of select even if it’s a deep select. Going to try and reach out to the navy officer recruiter again soon though
First off, make sure that you’re a PLC (Air) contract before going to OCS. If your OSO tells that you’ll select in TBS, DO NOT BELIEVE HIM/HER! Less than 1% of PLC (ground) or OCC grads select pilot. Secondly, get your private pilot’s certificate prior to flight school. Yes, it’s cost prohibitive but it will help if you want to fly jets. It’s better to go to college and earn all your ratings and get into the Airline (show) as quickly as possible. (Don’t fly for American, they are a crap company) Once off probation, join the Air Guard or the Air Force Reserve. USEERA laws prevent any company from eliminating a military member for duty so you’ll have two different careers but you’ll be gaining seniority at the airline plus a pension/medical insurance with the military at age 60. I joined the service through PLC(Air) and spent 30 years in my beloved Corps both active and reserve. Just finished 25 years and yes, I’m a 7 digit income airlift pilot for now. It will probably change if Harris gets into office and the economy continues to have a jammed stab continuing to plummet out of control. What I described to you is what my son is presently doing. Hired at 23, off probation at 24 then joined a Guard unit flying F-16’s. In six years, he’ll come back to the Airline and upgrade to Captain. It’s not a bad gig however, seeing him in a Zoomie uniform was difficult for this Devil Dog. Good luck to you. It’s the most fun you’ll have with your pants on! Semper Fi!
Hi! Just started watching your videos. I'm really interested in the operations side of things, so this was right up my alley! Hope you enjoy the time in Ljubljana. All the best from Austria!

hey garrett. seen part of your video before you made it private but in all seriousness. how about making that vlog into a livestream so people can get the answers they want or need right away?
Maybe I missed something but it's unlikely to make $1M a year with only a 50% hourly rate increase, except if your "basic" salary is already around +$660,000/year
I want to become an airline pilot! I speak English and understand Spanish very well but I am still improving on the speaking aspect. What other languages are useful for this job?
I don't think you need to learn any other languages because you're just flying the plane in your native language, learning other languages is optional and might be fun considering you travel around the world for free
hello i need some advice...my son planning to be a pilot...while he is confused about Flying school , flying degree or a university ( bachelor of pilot technology) Moreover needto know the required flying hours to be certificatified and what are the required license ....do appreciate your time and effort ...thank you
Base assignments are contingent on your seat, your aircraft and your seniority (longevity with the company). Some bases are “senior” and some are “junior.” Typically once you can hold a particular base and you are awarded that base you cannot be pushed out. However, if the company wants to shrink the size of a base or even close it you can be displaced. Meaning, pushed out of a base involuntarily.
So when exactly did you get the required Part 117 rest when you picked up this premium trip at the last minute? 0:45 At least be smart enough to not post a video of you searching out caffeine and admitting you're normally asleep when you're going to have passengers lives in your hands. 2:35 The NTSB investigation into UPS Flight 1354 shows that they will search out your PED usage in case of any incident for Probable Cause factors.
Apparently most US airlines require you to cover them, also most won't allow you to have a beard because the oxygen mask might not fit. I'm not sure what he does
If pilots can only fly 1000 hours per year, how do you get to a million? If he flies every trip at 150%, if his base rate is $200/hr, that's still only $300k/yr. Do DH hours not count towards flight hours? If that's the case, let's say a pilot flies 1000 hours and DH 1000 hours. All at time and a half. $200x1.5x2k is still only $600k. What am I missing to get to $1m? Are we factoring in profit sharing? Per diem?
Go to a 2 year college college and get an associates degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology, get your A&P license, Remote Pilot license, Aircraft Dispatcher License, AGI/IGI Ground Instructor license. Get your private, IFR, commercial, and multi engine under part 61. Get your commercial single engine sea, commercial glider and sport gyroplane. Don't bother going to a 4 year college nor university because you will rack up debt with no hope of getting a job in your field to study.

Why, they pay our pilots a lot. Military says they make that, but a lot of those pilots make more than 50k too. I guess our airlines are bigger, so if you have smaller ones that can't pay that makes sense. Aviation is not profitable from flying alone.
