Not sure James understood it as well..
Room correction is sound engineering witchcraft. It listens to the reverb in the room and adjusts the signal being sent to the speakers to compensate for that reverb based on their internal models of how the sound behaves in various spaces. The problem is that it has a hard time coping with particularly strange room configuration, since it is basically trying to use sound to figure out the shape of the room and how to optimize the sound so your room gain works out in your favor. Still, it has nothing over a sound engineer using models of the space and determining optimal speaker placement, treatment placement, and then running the room correction. But most people can't afford to have dedicated theaters or listening rooms, so we make compromises where we must.

i know james doesn’t host longform much because he’s busy with content strategy/project management/keeping the whole organisation running but it’s a treat every time he’s on this channel. the way he balances being personable/funny, general camera presence, and explaining systems is incredible.

OOf true audiophile. Man after my own heart! Before atmos ever existed and you had to manually calibrate your surround, we used to use our cat as the calibration test. We'd plop him on the couch put Star Wars on and if he looked up when the fighters flew over, we knew we had the surround correctly calibrated.
That reuse of the thermal paste was both amazing and terrifying.

BTW: 'Riley Murdock' is the most entertaining presenter there = clever & funny & handsome. Linus is mostly 'high energy & specs', but gets off on 'hacking' things, like instead of going 2 a store (or wherever) 2 get the right screws (or making an inventory list so not 'missing') tries 2 force the wrong size in a radiator, then when that fails, tries DRILLING the radiator = what could go wrong? =)) Makes it surprising he's able 2 build such a $uccessful company =;-o It's mirrored in his choice of wives. A note on subwoofers; After buying one I found it very distracting when watching movies, or when a commercial (which are always very LOUD) comes on. When you set the volume to hear the dialog, along comes some window-shaking explosion or dramatic music/sound during a dramatic moment. I kept adjusting it lower and lower to where it's almost somewhere between 0 and 1 on the dial. And there's no one setting that works for all movies or shows. It's either too loud or non-existent. It almost needs it's own dedicated remote volume control. If you live in a condo or apartment, expect a knock on the door from your angry neighbor(s).
If you live in a condo/apt. and have any kind of serious sound system there will always have to be compromises. I have a similar situation with dynamics (gunfire/explosions) so I set my audio system to Loudness Normalization, which compresses the dynamic range (most receivers and PCs have that setting), and helps keep the sound from drastically jumping from soft to loud. Of course, some of the immersion is lost, but that a multi-dwelling compromise you have to learn to live with.
If you're lucky, you have a multi-speaker receiver setting (Dolby surround/Atmos/etc. which allows you to add a center channel speaker to your system. That way, you get adjust your bass-to-dialogue output so that it fits your environment and audio environment and taste better. Your dialogue will always come through loud and clear.
Again, not a prefect solution -- since as you stated no two recording are exactly alike -- so you may still on occasion have to "ride" the volume control. Just not as often.
To do the "bass crawl", you can also put the sub in your listening position, and then you yourself crawl around to the different spots. Much easier than moving the sub around.

I've seen 4 of these Intel upgrade videos and it's so good to see real people in various situations choosing a variety of options. It does reveal the level of complication and knowledge required for each situation. I suggest we need a knowledgeable system that can accept our data (current setup, our wishes) and assist us with options and choices.
Intel, Linus, can you create or steer us towards such a assist system?

As someone who dropped some cash on a new receiver and subwoofer recently, I feel you James.
I recently dropped some cash on a new receiver (Sony STR-DB940) and a Sound Card (Sound Blaster Z).
I bought the Sound Card because HP decided to not give me s/pdif.
The only difference is that he didn't pay for it

I went from a yamaha receiver to a NAD. And the difference was incredible. It was a more full sound. The sound hit me like a warm chicken noodle soup for my ears. Game changer.
Called curtains for window treatments . Well moving in two week and treating the room OK. Nice receiver for a mid fi home theater good fit for this set up. A bit better speaker wire can help with the bass. 10 gauge is a good mid point with out spending a lot. Sub place is a very real thing save it for the new place.
To me, james feels the third most practical person in ltt, after linus and anthony, he is really smart.

Cool, I love the speakers. I have the klipsh rp-8000f. They are fantastic! Love those titanium tweeters. Then I noticed the sb-2000 pro..... I got the pb-2000 pro for my sub, and it's amazing! I went with the PB because I always have the option of putting in the port blockers but I get deeper sound a little with open ports.

It can take up to a month to unpack everything after moving if you have a lot of stuff. Linus would have to wait not 2 weeks but maybe a month.
This was all I wanted to know as well. Granted the only thing that was really questionable imo was if the new place actually needed the acoustic panels still.

love my SVS PB 2000. i have the ported version though with the same isolation feet, amazing sub when tuned up properly. i have a Onkyo RZ series which is thier flagship reciver and a BasX stereo power amp for my towers since I run RTi-at9's
YES! An audio dude. I have those exact feet on my rythmik subs and revel speakers. I sold my denon 11.2 atmos and running 2.2 right now through McIntosh pre amp and amn. Been waiting for my room correction MEN220 for 5 months then I will be complete.

Having worked with rock wool, don't do it without gloves. It's made from the waste from boilers, there are sharp pieces of stuff in there and it probably won't kill you but it won't be comfortable.

James that was money well spent on the Anthem! ARC is by far the best room correction I’ve ever used. Now ditch the Klipsch speakers and pick up some Paradigms. They are a match made in heaven with Anthem. I wish good audio was more of a priority for Linus.
As an ex-home theatre installer, Anthem Room Correction is a game changer, even as an upgrade from other high end Receivers.
Sneaky tip for the bass crawl for best sub placement, you put the sub in the listening position, then crawl around the room listening for where it sounds best, when you find it, congratulations, you found your ideal sub placement 😘
