You’ve killed me Linus. At 18:57 you mentioned that there are two DNS servers and then explain the IP allocation mismatch of both. A DHCP function!!! The techie in me can’t deal.
Yeah, while I couldn’t tell the issue outright, I personally gave the service a test and noticed how they were not sounding as good as my FLAC disc rips or any of the digital 24/96 releases I had so I just went back to the good ol accessing my local files, which in my phone I have the storage, and then if I wanted to use anything remotely I could probably just set my PC up for remote access and stream my stuff to my end device provided I have a good connection.

That is one sweet shop. Awesome!! As someone who is a welder I was kinda sad to see the Miller, wish it was a Lincoln. I'm a Lincoln fanboy. lol. (if your wondering, Lincoln vs Miller is like the same as Ford vs Chevy. it doesn't matter and its just personal preference)
Team Yellow! ESAB I was a Lincoln guy for arc and a Miller guy for mig/ tig until an ESAB found its way into the shop. It then spawned into multiple yellow machines.
They get it at actual retail price and not scalpers. It takes a lot of work, but they do it for a living. I did the same for my 3090. Paid actual MSRP in April 2021 only after searching almost daily for 6 months. I'm sure you could do it in weeks at this point.
@@Mack_Dingo yes, you could be right. But I also noticed that a lot of times the people with those upgrades are pricing things in Canadian dollars and Intel is definitely giving them a US $5,000 budget. Still probably going over, but that's about 6,400 Canadian dollars. I'm sure some have put their own money into it as well. It just doesn't necessarily need to get set on camera.
Linus: hear me out. I love your show, but I am becoming more in love of all the crazy mechanical engineering spinoffs with Colin and Alex. I want more of THAT.
Oh my god! Colin's place is exactly like my place! Laser, 5'x10' cnc table (does both plasma and router), full set mechanics tools (dirty work tools) and electronics tools (clean work tools), 4 3D printers, 4 post auto lift, Mig, Tig, Stick, Spot welding machines, whole compliment of carpentry tools for wood-based making, and finally, a higher than normal tolerance for living in kaos and filth. Not to mention the 6 monitor setup for work and play software development and full server rack for storage, network and VM hosts.
After seeing Colin spending money on his DIY speakers in addition to his rig, he's officially my favorite LTT employee. I dream of having a setup this sick and a workshop to make my own gear in. I hope you see this Colin, I see you and I respect your drip
I would love to have a workshop like this! I'm currently converting my late father's workshop into my own makerspace, but that one will be MUCH smaller. Couldn't fit a single one of those machines in there. But it will be big enough for a workbench and my 3D printer and some other things.
Was happy to see the audio aspect with the subwoofer. However I need to point out that a LPF (low pass filter) is not to prevent too much excursion. The filter is to filter out high frequencies that the subwoofer can't handle.
I love his audio enthusiasm, but I really don't know what to think about "high fidelity" equipment for a workshop....you may have a great sound coming out, but a room like this will mess it up
Hi-fi does not necessarily mean audiophile. A workshop may not be the ideal kind of room but it doesn't mean you can't appreciate better sound quality in it.
Better quality to start could still easily make a difference in the end when you know it's going to be messed up by the room regardless. Messing up good sound will still sound better than messing up already bad sound.
Linus, the problem with the internet connection is proxmox's /etc/interfaces~ configuration. Had the same problem when moved my proxmox ssd to another machine.
Just watched Jerry rig everythings ev hummer update in which he used a nice tapping arm... I am in the process of upgrading a very cheap cnc router project, and realize how useful it would be to have in any shop! Thanks for sharing... Props!
Ever since watching LTT in the last, say 3 years since I've come back to it, I love all the server side stuff they talk about and reference. It's always been the one topic I felt so illiterate about and just from these videos I've learned a lot! Great series. Now, more tech house!
Damn Colin living the life! Having an awesome workshop AND (probably) a home! I got neither and I can safely say I won't be having either anytime soon!
I got a storage unit that I keep a workshop in. Still wont have a home til Boomers start dying off. Unfortunately I'm early gen x and probably have the same expiration date.
11:48 Linus Porky the Pig moment after hovering and waiting to annoy. Had to 😃. Thanks for always being the quirky dude that you are! Great vid to all involved.
Sure in a home environment. But you're moving around a shop or listening over power tools. Flack makes way more of a difference if you haven't got $10,000 speakers. I've had those in the past. Doubt I'll ever do that again unless I just inherit some or get them in an auction. So superior format quality makes up for that. Db PowerAmp let's me RIP all the formats at once. But in think this time around I'm gonna RIP in command line from Ubuntu Studio unless there is better linux audio setup.

You’ve killed me Linus. At 18:57 you mentioned that there are two DNS servers and then explain the IP allocation mismatch of both. A DHCP function!!!
The techie in me can’t deal.
That part hurt so much.
17:00 Afaik there are issues with FLACs from Tidal, those are said to not be master accurate!
Yeah, while I couldn’t tell the issue outright, I personally gave the service a test and noticed how they were not sounding as good as my FLAC disc rips or any of the digital 24/96 releases I had so I just went back to the good ol accessing my local files, which in my phone I have the storage, and then if I wanted to use anything remotely I could probably just set my PC up for remote access and stream my stuff to my end device provided I have a good connection.
ye, but its better than spotify atleast
The audio was definitely rough in this video. Curious if that was more an issue with interference in the space or something with equipment or what?
There was a lot of radio interference (big steel barn problems) and we did our best to fix it in post production -CW
@@LinusTechTips I figured it had to do with the environment more than anything! Only so much you can do when someone wants the video in their WORKSHOP! haha
RF interference is my nightmare as a field audio guy. Definitely some useful RF scanning tools that can be used to give you a heads up in the end though iZotope RX for the rescue.
@@B3Mac iZotope RX is dope. I used it to save a recording and turn it from awful to tolerable
12:49-13:01 is one of the best moments I've ever seen of Linus! The honesty in that smile at the end there felt so genuine haha I feel we've all had moments like that with friends :D
Sorry team blue here, It's an Intel video after all. (JK I have a Lincoln MIG and it's.. fine.) -CW
Team Yellow! ESAB I was a Lincoln guy for arc and a Miller guy for mig/ tig until an ESAB found its way into the shop. It then spawned into multiple yellow machines.
I always wonder how they get a 30 series graphics card and don’t go over budget
They get it at actual retail price and not scalpers. It takes a lot of work, but they do it for a living. I did the same for my 3090. Paid actual MSRP in April 2021 only after searching almost daily for 6 months. I'm sure you could do it in weeks at this point.
$4k for welder alone an $2000 for cpu an gpu plus tax, More like $10k budget
@@Mack_Dingo yes, you could be right. But I also noticed that a lot of times the people with those upgrades are pricing things in Canadian dollars and Intel is definitely giving them a US $5,000 budget. Still probably going over, but that's about 6,400 Canadian dollars. I'm sure some have put their own money into it as well. It just doesn't necessarily need to get set on camera.
Awesome shop there, eh? Hope you enjoy your welder and can’t wait to see what other projects you have coming up for LTT. The shop builds are the best!
This series is by favorite by far in the LTT channel, I don’t think anything comes close.
Scrapyard wars at the start was pretty fire... but yeah.
I wish I was 25-30 years younger. I would have loved to work with you guys.
if you know stuff iam sure you can apply
They hire older guys too if they are knowledgeable. Tyler for instance (RIP)
Excellent welder with a fantastic accessory from another awesome RUclips channel.
This is by far my favorite Intel sponsored upgrade for LTT.
Was happy to see the audio aspect with the subwoofer. However I need to point out that a LPF (low pass filter) is not to prevent too much excursion. The filter is to filter out high frequencies that the subwoofer can't handle.
I love his audio enthusiasm, but I really don't know what to think about "high fidelity" equipment for a workshop....you may have a great sound coming out, but a room like this will mess it up
Yeah really.... Im just imagining listening to lossless audio over the sound of power tools lmao
Hi-fi does not necessarily mean audiophile. A workshop may not be the ideal kind of room but it doesn't mean you can't appreciate better sound quality in it.
^^^ This. Sure, it's not a listening room, but its 100% noticeable -CW
@@LinusTechTips do an A/B blind test with a normal streaming service, bet you're gonna fail :P
Better quality to start could still easily make a difference in the end when you know it's going to be messed up by the room regardless. Messing up good sound will still sound better than messing up already bad sound.
Okay, the "spot welder" one was actually a good one.
Lol, dance party in Colin’s shop!!! Nice, bro!
Absolutely love this shop, beautiful!
Linus, the problem with the internet connection is proxmox's /etc/interfaces~ configuration. Had the same problem when moved my proxmox ssd to another machine.
run an ip link, look for the new active interface name and add into the etc/network/interfaces file.....jobs a goodun
I thought it might have been due to an older kernel that doesn't have support for the 2.5GbE NICs that most new boards ship with
Just watched Jerry rig everythings ev hummer update in which he used a nice tapping arm... I am in the process of upgrading a very cheap cnc router project, and realize how useful it would be to have in any shop! Thanks for sharing... Props!
18:53 Correction: DHCP Servers or just call them 2 routers.
Double router means double NAT issues too *facepalm*
Now I want a Colin's youtube channel, please make one!!
Ever since watching LTT in the last, say 3 years since I've come back to it, I love all the server side stuff they talk about and reference. It's always been the one topic I felt so illiterate about and just from these videos I've learned a lot! Great series. Now, more tech house!
Finally another one! I know there's a lot that goes into it I just still wish we could get more
Damn Colin living the life! Having an awesome workshop AND (probably) a home! I got neither and I can safely say I won't be having either anytime soon!
I got a storage unit that I keep a workshop in. Still wont have a home til Boomers start dying off. Unfortunately I'm early gen x and probably have the same expiration date.
welp
Thank you so much for going JL with your sub omg they're so crisp. Either way I want you're whole barn haha
Colin, your first mistake was telling Linus you have tools. Your second mistake was inviting Linus in where you keep and store those tools.
Just as I was craving some LTT goodness this pops up. Thank the tech gods
amen
11:48 Linus Porky the Pig moment after hovering and waiting to annoy. Had to 😃. Thanks for always being the quirky dude that you are! Great vid to all involved.
"he can be learned"
"I switched to Tidal"
Famous last words of a man who will be switching back from Tidal.
Yup, Screw MQA. Just give us plain lossless without any extra bells and whistles, ain't that hard.
We'll miss you Colin ♡
Linus really does feel like Tech Michael Scott when he's out of his element xD
I’m all for lossless audio, but maybe treat your listening space and configuring speaker position makes more of a difference in actual experience?
Sure in a home environment. But you're moving around a shop or listening over power tools. Flack makes way more of a difference if you haven't got $10,000 speakers. I've had those in the past. Doubt I'll ever do that again unless I just inherit some or get them in an auction. So superior format quality makes up for that.
Db PowerAmp let's me RIP all the formats at once. But in think this time around I'm gonna RIP in command line from Ubuntu Studio unless there is better linux audio setup.
@@jemiebridges3197 you are not going to hear the difference from MP3 320 and flac files while moving around shop not even listening on axis of the speakers.
It does it's useless having great gear and lossless if you are not even listening on axis or have room correction
@@puresesh7985 This is mostly my experience as well, but I don’t have a lot of “shop” experience :)
@@ArvidOlson if you are in a shop or listening off axis out of the sweet spot file quality is the least of your concern
11:24 Somehow the fact that Linus is a dad has just surfaced hard nowadays.
nooooo I just found out Colin also left. x.x.... I went down the rabbit hole after I found out taran left after his ugprade and Colin did also...
I like this series. I do wish AMD would do something similar. Wicked shed though.
1) You shop is awesome Colin and I am jealous of all the cool toys in there. 2) LINUS OWNS TENNIS SHOES?!?
Man just upgraded his shop then bounced from LMG.
