Now you've got me wondering what I need to do to get you to read the remaining two omnibuses in the series this year. Do you do interviews? Maybe if I answered some of those questions you had. And yeah, most of your pronunciations were good.
Wow! I didn't expect to see a comment form this user today. Thank you so much for stopping by. I would love to have you on the channel any time that you'd like. And I'm sure I'll fit those other two in this year. I had way too much fun with Royce & Hadrian not to.
@@mikesbookreviews As soon as you finish the series, shoot me an email and we'll set up an interview to talk about them. My address is in every book. Good review BTW, and not because it was positive-of course that didn't hurt.
After watching this video and seeing that the author commented on this .....I REALLY WANT TO READ THIS NOW 👍📚 MJS is the #1 up and coming fantasy author to date
Yep. Michael J Sullivan actually writes all his series all the way through(besides Riyria Chronicles because they are episodic) before the first book is published. That's why his stories feel so consistent and flow so well. I really like that style and kinda wish all authors would do this, although I know its not realistic because of publishers and such.
@@mikesbookreviews yeah! I actually participated in the last one for Age of Legend and it was a really cool experience. He should be having another one coming up soon for Age of Fyre
New subscriber here, discovered your channel thru this review. I just finished this series few hours ago and I'm still grinning and pumped up with hype. This series is soo much fun. This is definitely going to my all time faves. I wonder why it's not nearly as popular as it deserves. Haven't read princess bride yet, your comparisons makes me want to pick it up. Awesome review btw! Volume 2 is even better! I hope you'll be able to read or finish the series soon. I would love to hear your thoughts about it.
Just started my read through, I picked it up because it immediately gave me Lankhmar vibes, but MJS makes our protagonists less dubious. Genuine humor, and moments that I love, and would love to see adapted to screen.
this channel helped with good book recommendations, its hard to find someone with same tastes keep it up mike. also, if you like dune you should definitely check out Folio Society DUNE, best dune book made by far
Hi Mike, regarding the idea of a dragon guarding a treasure, and thief stealing it from its lair goes all the way back to ancient legends like Beowulf, which several fantasy authors including Tolkien draw from, or make references to. Another similar one is JK Rowling's 7th book where Gringotts bank is guarded by a dragon, and they need to steal a treasure from it.
Yes sir. I will always give you guys multiple spoiler warnings if that's the case. For the first book in a series I like to go spoiler free in case others are on the fence about it.
3:47 ouch man, I felt that. *side glare* wait until you see what Locke & Jean overcome in red skies. Maybe 2021? I'm holding my breath for Thorn of Emberlaine in 2020. I need my Locke & Sabetha soaps back on the air. 🤷♂️ I am now too invested.
New to your Channel, after I saw your Sanderson Video. I love the Riyria Revelations. Really great group of stories. Sadly the Prequel, Legends of the First Empire I can not stomach. I made it half way through 4, and stopped. I found I hated every living character in the book. Then again, maybe I am just spoiled from reading all of Sanderson's works.
I'm almost done with the first story (they are storming the castle) and I just don't get the praise heaped upon this book. Maybe I'm not the target audience, but it reads at a middle school level. Sure it has some witty banter and comedic episodes from Myron, but other than that the characters are paper thin. Prose is weak, characters are constantly monologuing and over explaining every step (show not tell). It's a rushed, paint by numbers adventure that doesn't get you vested in the characters and creates little suspense due to this. I guess if you just want an easy read where things happen and witty remarks are made. Maybe i'm just spoiled by better authors and my standards are too high. Maybe this is first book syndrome, many an author has written a poor first book only to follow it up with much higher quality as they get more experienced. Can anyone attest to it getting better if I keep reading?

You won't regret it. It is a great time.

Yeah, I see he now releases his books independently through kickstarter. So cool.

100%
Thank you for being spoiler free!
Of course. I always try to do that with the first book in a series to get more folks interested in them.
Loved these 2 books. So glad for the discord and the 2022 read-along. 😃
Yeah, it's a fun series
Wow best review of this series I've seen on RUclips. Love the passion you have here.
Late to the party, started this book because of your review. Thnx champ! BTW your Wheel of Time content still rocks!! Big Wheelie fan here lol.
Oh I loved this series.Glad you are enjoying them
If it stays this good, I will be joining the “love” bandwagon for them.

Yeah, it was a ton of fun. Now that my schedule is going to lighten up (just finished WoT) I plan to finish Revelations this year.
Awesome! Looking forward to it ❤️
One of my favorite authors,..check out Age of Myth too as well as the Riyria Chronicles. Both are great and tie together nicely.
If I continue to love the series as much as the first 2 stories, I see no reason why I wouldn't continue with all of it.
@@mikesbookreviews Enjoy
MJS is great. The Legends of The First Empire is even better.... his Magnum Opus!
My fave!!!
I watched this previously and now that I've finished Avempartha I've returned to see if Mike's opinion was accurate, and yes it was.
Wow, you went way back ha ha
Love this series so much and it was fun to hear your thoughts. Looking forward to your thoughts for the next two bind ups! (or 4 books).
Same here! I hope it stays this fun.

Good job pronouncing Gilarabryn. 👍 you nailed it.
Mike, who did you think was the mastermind those three times you changed your mind?
I went between Braga and Arista a couple of times and once even had this wild theory about Alric being behind all of it.
I really need to check out this serie during this summer
Finally read it and loved the book a lot!
These really sounds awesome
It is 100% Micheal has some amazing books.
never heard of this before
Viewers picked it for me. It's great.
Lol! "Or if they ever get in there !! " Hehehe!
Gotta keep up the mystery!
I like the way he does the world building so far. Like you said it's not 200 pages of building.

I flirted with that Folio version of Dune. Sadly $135 for a book I already own on leathbound is too steep for me. It is beautiful though.
I'll have to pick this back up i guess. I stopped reading it and picked up First Law instead
It's a great palate cleanser. But you know my love of First Law takes priority.
If you read Legends of the First Empire first the ending of Riyria Revilations is fucking increadible.
Ryiria is incredible, keep reading

Of course. But knowing that MJS is a big Tolkien fan is why I made that comparison.
Please do a review on the rest of the series or even his Legends of the first Empire series.
Wait till you get to book three. Huge payoff! So good!
That's what I hear. Planning to get back on it this summer.
Hi Mike, is it a spoiler free review?

Hopefully the 27 years he's taken to write book 4 taught him how to structure his book properly if he's going to do multiple flashbacks.

I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews on Chronicles and Legends. More so on Legends. Maybe the lowered expectations might help when I get there.
What about the world and all?
