    You can't run away forever
But there's nothing wrong with getting a good headstart
You want to shut out the night, you want to shut down the sun
You want to shut away the pieces of a broken heart
Think of how we'd lay down together
We'd be listening to the radio so loud and so strong
Every golden nugget coming like a gift of the gods
Someone must have blessed us when he gave us those songs
    I treasure your love
I never want to lose it
You've been through the fires of hell
And I know you've got the ashes to prove it
    I treasure your love
I want to show you how to use it
You've been through a lot of pain in the dirt
And I know you've got the scars to prove it
Remember everything that I told you
And I'm telling you again that it's true
When you're alone and afraid, and you're completely amazed
To find there's nothing anybody can do
(Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby)
    There's always something magic
    (There's always something magic)
    There's always something new (new)
And when you really-really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come through
    The beat is yours forever
    (The beat is yours forever)
The beat is always true (true)
And when you really-really need it the most
That's when rock and roll dreams come through, for you
Once upon a time was a backbeat
Once upon a time all the chords came to life
And the angels had guitars even before thay had wings
If you hold on to a you can get through the night
    (Getting through the night)
I treasure your love (treasure your love)
I never want to lose it
You've been through the fires of hell
And I know you've got the ashes to prove it
    I treasure your love
I want to show you how to use it
You've been through a lot of pain in the dirt
And I know you've got the scars to prove it
Remember everything that I told you
And I'm telling you again that it's true
You're never alone 'cause you can put on the phones
And let the drummer tell your heart what to do
(Keep on believing, and you'll discover baby)
    There's always something magic
    (There's always something magic)
    There's always something new (new)

He may not have been the level of performer that Meatloaf, Air Supply, Celine Dion, Bonnie Tyler, etc. were, but this man was easily one of the great pop rock songwriters of all time. He wasn't even necessarily the most prolific, but he crafted so many masterpieces that happened to be huge hits as well. Bat I and II will forever be remembered.

1982: Jim Steinman wrote this for Meat Loaf to sing at the time, but the two split and Steinman owed CBS an album. So, he and his band went into the studio and recorded the "Bad for Good" LP without Meat. Meat's regular backup Rory Dodd stepped up and handled lead on this one. This cracked the Top 30 in '82. Ten years later, Meat and Jim had mended fences and recorded it again, with a new arrangement. It hit again.

Keep in mind that this was the mid-eighties. No internet. This song didn't get a lot of radio play in southern Ohio. I loved it, but only heard it a handful of times. When Bat out of Hell II came out with this song and I still knew most of the words I played it did my sisters and friends. I told all of them this is the song that I've been singing for years. Only a couple of them even remembered it. Those who did thought I was even more creepy. Lol. I'm so happy to finally have proof that this song was out in the early 80's. Yahoo. Now I just have to send it to all my sisters and friends who are still alive.

Jim Steinman wrote so many of my favourite songs, and 'Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young' by 'Fire Inc' from the soundtrack of the movie 'Streets Of Fire', along with 'Rock And Roll Dreams Come Through' and 'Left In The Dark Again' have to be my favourites. Loved his work with the band 'Pandora's Box' in the 1980s as well. Their album 'Original Sin' is one of my all time favourite albums. Thanks for all the great music Jim, you definitely blessed us when you gave us those songs. The beat is yours forever.

@@Bahama3ay I was lucky enough to see Jim steinmans bat out of hell the musical at the dominion theatre in London and a song I had never heard of till then is now one of my faves and that's what part of my body hurts the most I love it, a d despite the fact I am also a massive Celine Dion fan I believe Pandora's box version of its all coming back to me now is the better version

Mr. Steinman deserves more recognition. He is one of the best rock song writers ever. I have to say though, he's a passable vocalist. It was, and is the union of HIS lyrics, and Marvin Aday's vocals that made these songs legends. Like elements that make a stronger alloy, when they work together, magic happens. If Mr. Steinman reads this, I hope he won't be angry. His music was one of the defining aspects of my youth, and he has nothing but my respect as an artist.
