Jim Steinman was a genius, a songwriter unlike any other. He consistently pushed the boundaries of what was considered normal in the industry. My parents have always loved his work, and for the past year, I've come to admire his talent as well (i'm currently 14). I'm proud to say I’m named after him.

You listen to this, and then to the version with Meatloaf singing it, and they are in a different league. But, without this song, what would Meatloaf have had to work with? If you haven't listened to it, 'Bad for Good' is a fascinating album. It is Jim Steinman trying to demonstrate that he could do it without Meat Loaf, and failing. But then. how good did Meat Loaf do without JIm? Together was where the magic happened, and why they needed each other.

The Darkness need to cover this masterpiece - and is it just me or are these dancers absolutely bad-ass? When he swings that guitar around there’s not a wasted motion in it, and they both beautifully capture the tragicomic shattered idealism of the song. That’s what’s great about this stuff, and The Darkness have it dialed in as well - that fine line between comedy and tragedy that could be the funniest thing you’ve seen if it weren’t about you.

Not really live, as he was miming to Rory Dodd, who sang this on the "Bad for Good Album"... Nevertheless, it's a fantastic song, and I prefer this to the Meatloaf version. In fact, alot of the Rory Dodd Demos on youtube show that he was better than Meatloaf in his tone...

You are tone deaf. Plus "alot" is not a word. Meat loaf version is a million times better. Steinman was a great songwriter, but he cannot sing very well!

What do you think? E.G. Do you think that Jim was a louzy songwriter?

Agreed. And Rory Dodd's demo of "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" is far superior to Air Supply's version

Although i was a huge Meat Loaf fan i think Jim Steinman's Bad For Good album was the best.

Amen. It just gets better and better. Read "Rolling Stone" ridiculous panning of BOOH and BFG to see how those idiots didn't get Jim's genius.

Wonderful song. I know the dancer in the video was Matt Latanzi. Who was the girl?

A strange one, brilliantly sung by Rory Dodd but credited to the song writer

He must be related to Todd Rundgren. They sound so much alike.

I was happy that Jim got tired of Meatloaf not wanting Bat Outta Hell II released and did it himself . I prefer his versions of the songs over Meatloaf's version.
