- Based on the charts of the UK, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. I chose a different song for each month to make the countdown more interesting and diverse, despite the fact that in reality a few songs were the most popular ones for 2 or 3 consecutive months.

Around the beginning of every decade, most music sound as the previous decade. Just like at the beginning of the 90s, most songs sounded like these typical 80s songs.

Seriously, do you have a problem, or what? This is something that happens every decade, even the 70s considering how many songs sounded like the 60s music at the start of that decade. So I guess 70s music is overrated too? (Note: not serious with that last sentence. I love music from more or less every decade.)

Johnny Logan and "What's another year" (0:30) were also Eurovision winners. Johnny is a bit of a legend as he's managed to win the Eurovision three times: 1980 (singer), 1987 (singer, lyricist, composer) and 1992 (lyricist, composer) -- plus he finished 2nd in 1984 as lyricist + composer of "Terminal 3", performed by Linda Martin, who also performed the 1992 winner. 😊

This is once again a great compilation. Only five of these songs are missing from my mp3 collection, otherwise I have them all. And I bought a large part of it as a single in the 80s and it's still on my record shelf today.

For me (born in 1968) the years 1980-1984 are much better than 1985-1989 but maybe I was too old for the chart songs in the second half of the 80s.

The '80s went through so much change, from disco in 1980 through the synthpop era up to house in 1989.
The weird thing is, most of these 80s songs I have fun memories of my childhood. But 'Rick Astley's' 'Never gonna give you up' will be known as the most legendary Rickroll on the internet for me.... forever!

I believe "Self Control" was the most popular song of Summer 1984, at least in Europe, if not the entire world. Not just the Branigan version, either. Between Branigan and Raf, that song thoroughly dominated the Summer of 1984 in Europe. It was so dominant in Europe that it could've been the most popular song WORLDWIDE in the Summer of 1984. How many other times have you seen a song trade the #1 spot with itself IN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS, for example? "Self Control" did this in Switzerland!

I think that I have danced to each of this songs atleast once.
I can confirm that most of these songs are still played on French radio fairly regularly.
The music was really diverse in that decade
The best decade for music - the only song I didn't recognise was the one by Ofra Haza (never heard of her, to be honest).
The 1980s and 1990s packed this music performance and original singers compare to today it’s not even close to our favorite music back then

I dont know but it would be a 90s song like 80s kids like to claim songs from the late 70s lol
Of these songs Lambada was the one that was biggest in the UK,though not number 1,in December 1989. That month's charts also included Got to Get by Rob & Raz featuring Leila K,which appears at the start of the second most popular songs in the 90s video. Another Day in Paradise got to number 2 in November 1989.
most ppl here already reacted with their favorite 80's artists, so here I come with artists I never connected with: Michael Jackson, Madonna, Wham, George Michael, Modern Talking, Petshop boys, Phil collins, Billy Ocean and no doubt a lot more. ;-) But I must admit that a few MJ songs have grown on me, decades later.
