People can argue whether 80's music was the best. But it wasn't only the music, it was also boombox, MTV, dress up mentality, party spirit etc. made the decade unique and unforgettable 😄
The racism, the sexism, the homophobia, homosexuality illegal - criminal in many European countries, people dying of aids, treated like dirt, thatcher and reagan destroying the last of society, neoliberalism looming, the working class turned into the underclass, yuppies, gentrification, conformist, awful manufactured pop music, continued rise of "celebrities", paparazzi. All these musicians who tried to change society but had to hide who they were, were bullied, harassed, and even died because of who they were- and everyone here is oh what a great colourful time, all fun and larks - no, it was deadly serious, scratch away the colour and you see a writhing mess of agony, pain and endless bigotry.
Spannend, wie manche Songs immer noch ständig irgendwo laufen und manche total vergessen sind, obwohl sie wochenlang auf 1 waren.
Naja manche lieder sind halt nicht mehr zeitgemäß und andere halten sich ewig. ich höre gern phil collins und ich habe aktuelle musik erst seit 2005 mit.
Und ich kenn sie trotzdem noch alle, auch die, die kein Mensch mehr hört (ok, koreana hab ich zum Glück inzwischen komplett verdrängt).
Ich bin 1975 geboren und bei jedem dieser Songs hab ich eine Erinnerung wo ich im Leben stand.....wie älter wurde und das Leben beschissener

Bin ich eigentlich der einzige, der findet, dass die 70er - 90er teils echt super tolle Musikstücke raus kamen? Gefühlt ist irgendwie seit 2010 nur noch depressiver Einheitsbrei und ein Sänger hört sich an wie der vorherige
Ist halt alles totoptimiert. Kaum einer kann ein Risiko eingehen wenn der Erfolg auf dem Spiel steht. Damals war alles viel experimenteller, was funktionieren konnte oder nicht

@@CarstenCzaja Das stimmt wohl. Der Müll damals war aber noch zu einem großen Teil handgefertigt. Heute ist es nur noch künstlich und teilweise unerträglich. Jede Epoche hatte so ihre guten und schlechten Zeiten /Seiten. Werde bald 45 und mag am liebsten Rock aus den späten 60ern, am liebsten die Doors. Ich höre aber auch sehr gerne elektronische Musik, wie zum Beispiel Deep House. Musik ist und bleibt immer die schönste Sprache der Welt...... und natürlich die Liebe 😎
@Astir01 Ja ok. Aber das ist schon eher so spezialisierte Musik könnt man sagen. Ich meinte eher, was so heut im Radio läuft. Klingt irgendwie teils alles so traurig und depressiv während so in den 90ern und frühen 00ern noch so die Eurodance Szene aktiv war

The German charts have always been stupid.
Still Phil Collins was far more successful over the years. Phil's "But Seriously" and Genesis' "We Can't Dance" spent plenty of weeks at #1 in the German album charts and still are the bestselling English albums in Germany.

What i find amazing is this, a lot of these are in a language that isn't German and yet they managed to stay #1 of X amount of weeks in Germany...Proves that music has no boundaries when it comes to nationality!

Many of these were also #1 in Sweden, but not all... Modern Talking was a favorit of mine, but I don't think they had that many #1 in Sweden. Falco maybe had one or two. But if I remember correctly Nicole with Ein Bisschen Frieden was #1 more weeks in Sweden than in Germany.

Yes, most non-English speaking countries listen to music in many different languages unlike English speakers, where once every few years a song not in English might become an unexpected hit, otherwise all we listen to is music from UK, US and Aus. International bands have to sing in English to get anywhere in these countries, kpop is one contemporary outlier to this bigoted phenomenon I spose.

They say Germans have no sense of humour, but TWO versions of the Birdie Song spanning 12 weeks at number 1 in 1981 is something else. What a time to have been alive that must have been.
Whether you liked the song or not, you could understand why it was at number 1. In the streaming age you nearly have a new number 1 every week by an artist you never heard of before and you forgot a month later.

Back then, you needed to sell records (or get massive airplay) for a #1 hit. In the streaming era, you stream something new all the time. It‘s not an investment people make, so new tunes get to the top all the time as people play them.

Think the song wasn't that famous when it was released but got much better known by "Miami Vice" later...
"In The Air Tonight" was the beginning of Phil Collins' solo career in 1981 and he wasn't a huge star back then.

Lived in Germany in the 70's and grew to love the people there! Coming back to America after living there for almost 5 years was so so difficult! My German friends lived a life there and coming home all my old American friends just wanted to get stoned. I go back all the time and now my wife feels the same way after meeting my friends there.

Ich kann mich gut daran erinnern, dass unsere Lehrer in den 80igern gerne erzählten, wie beschissen dieses Jahrzehnt war …

Madonna was notorious for having #2 hits and being blocked from the #1 spot for several weeks on end in the 80s with plenty of her hits, Like A Prayer was #2 for 5 weeks, Who's That Girl and Papa Don't Preach received the same treatment peaking at #2 for several weeks, Into The Groove, Express Yourself were #3 for a while, Like A Virgin #4 etc.
She managed 3 more #1hits in the 2000s though and in the 90s continued her streak of nearly getting there with Frozen peaking at #2 for 6 consecutive weeks.
Madonna had 4 #1 albums in the 80s in Germany though, so maybe she was already more of an albumsartist, True Blue spent 8 weeks at #1 and Like A Prayer 4 weeks #1.

That's because the song entered the German charts at #6 on 24 December, 1984. It is quite common (not only in germany), that there are no hit lists during the days between Christmas and New Year's Day.
Yes,before about mid-way through the 80s the UK charts used to take a weeks' "holiday" too between the last chart before Christmas and the first one after New Year. So as to the Christmas Number 1 and year-end Number 1 it really was winner takes all!

As someone who lived in Germany in the mid to late 80's, thanks for the trip down memory lane.
When I was younger, I didn't appreciate the 80's enough, being a huge fan of the 60's and 70's (I still am though), seems like now it's the time for me to finally come to terms with my love for the 80's 💜 and guys, FALCO is still the best! 💜

As a teenager in the 80s, I hated them, hated everything about them once Id got past the pop music 11-13 yr old stage, hated the clothes, hated the politics, the awful music, the hollow synthesisers, the yuppies, the sexism and homophobia... But in my late 20s I discovered the somewhat cooler and more alternative side of the 80s, the goths and post punks, even ndw and the beginnings of techno, and came to understand how unbelievably revolutionary even many of these pop musicians in funny clothes actually were, gender bending, defying conservative norms, in their own way fighting for change even if they werent vocal about it in public, so many dead from aids and drugs, so many never publicly lived their truth.
Modern Talking und Falco waren unheimlich gut ❤️ sieht man auch daran, dass sie hier so oft vertreten sind.

Die 70er und 80er hatten musikalisch einfach viel mehr zu bieten als alles was heute läuft!
Es gab in jedem Jahrzehnt gute und schlechte Songs. Als Musikliebhaber würde ich das nicht auf eine bestimmte Zeit runterbrechen und die dann als "ultimatives Musikjahrzehnt" bezeichnen.

Danke für diese fantastische Zusammenstellung. Ich selbst bin 1980 geboren, allerdings im "Tal der Ahnungslosen" und ich liebe diese Ära einfach, auch wenn uns im Osten vor 1989 nicht jedes Lied zugänglich war. Einfach so geile Musik.
Also ich weiß ja nicht wie das in Dresden so war - aber 50km weiter westlich kannte ich jeden dieser Songs! Vielleicht bist Du einfach ein paar Jahre zu spät um die 80er wirklich bewusst erlebt zu haben...?
Ich war vielleicht ein noch sehr jubg, aber meine Eltern hörten eher nicht Schlager sondern tatsächlich zum Großteil die 80er. Vielleicht kann ich mich an Einige nicht erinnern aber es war tatsächlich auch so, dass viele nicht im Radio liefen.
@@romylinke893 Ich bin ein paar Jahre älter und hatte so ab 83 freitags immer die Bayern 3 Top Ten (ich glaub die gibts immer noch...) laufen - insofern kann ich mich echt an jeden einzelnen Song erinnern - plus die aus dem "Nr.2-Video" und ein paar die dann immer noch fehlen...

@@jurgendonath2877 Du hast Recht, Wirtschaftskrieg, Cyberkrieg gibt es. Und auch Falschinformationen in den Medien ist ein großes Problem, vor allem in Ländern wie den USA, China und Russland. Doch trafen während des Kalten Kriegs zwei grundsätzlich verschiedene Weltanschauungen aufeinander. Die Medien beider Länder haben sich doch schon damals die Schuld zugeschoben. Und auch wenn die Amis und die Russen in Konflikten verschiedene Standpunkte beziehen, so kann ich mir einen direkten Krieg doch nur schwer vorstellen, weder mit den Russen, den USA oder den Chinesen. Ich denke wir sind einfach alle zu bequem geworden um ordentlich Krieg führen zu wollen. Und das ist auch gut so.

I mean, I wasnt even born in that time but my father allways listned to most of these when i was young. So its still a childhood memory for me.
I'm here looking for songs from Germany for my around the world playlist. I said it before and I'll say it again is there anywhere in the world where 80s weren't awesome in fashion and music not politically speaking. I was surprised to hear so many songs in english loved hearing Major Tom in German that's was cool.
