So let me get this straight. LIttle white girls can't dress as Moana or Mulan for Halloween, but these people can tell the Japanese how to create an art form they invented?
Well. We're dealing with actual cultural Marxism. No. Not the frankfurt school conspiracy. The real deal. Centralized cultural control where a small group of marxists controls it all.
At the end of the day they use "cultural appropriation" as a way to divide people instead of opening inclusion and understanding. It disingenuous and shameful.
“Lacking its own ingenuity, the parasite fears the visionary. What it cannot plagiarize, it seeks to censor. What it cannot regulate, it seeks to ban.” - Andrew Ryan (Bioshock II)
Whether we understand the foreign culture or not, at least we get an idea what the other country is like. We are not going to assume countries like Romania has this culture where men dance on airplane wings singing love songs. That is why Japanese cartoons made them great. They at least made their stories and settings as believable and plausible as possible.
That trailer honestly looks like an unfinished animatic. There are people on their own making stuff that looks hundreds of times better and more polished
Back in the early 2000s, there were a lot of Canadian shows that pilfered the anime style (Martin Mystery being the one that comes to mind) yet none of them ever looked as bad as this.
@FELIPE Augusto While the art is questionable, I'm happy for Berserk 2016 because it actually ADVANCED the plot in anime terms. Now, newer works are actually forced to either follow up, or make the fairy village arc and then the tower arc. No longer we're stuck in the golden band arc that all the movies are always perpetually doing.
@Heavy Metal Collector TBF, the whole boat thing didn't lasted so long but rather, because the plot shifted to Griffith POV which did the whole assimilation world thing. Granted, the boat arc did meander with the pirates and then Cthulhu island thing (Which IMO, was fucking cool and introduced another fav char of mine to the crew.). That and add in Miura slow pace of updates which is like maybe monthly if we're lucky at the time. An adaptation is prob going to solve a lot of it since all materials are already there and serves as an arc follow up after the Kushan dock invasion.
@@Calirex01 The initial inversion on preproduction its higer but on the long therm it gets cheaper and faster to animate and make corrections when you have the assets on a data base, even a well made 2D hibrid can save a lot of time.
If I wanted a well made 3D animated work, it’s sad that I’ll check Chinese works first before an official American anime company... no it isn’t. This is Crunchyroll we’re talking about.
chinese Anime style aka it's called Donghua, they make some pretty good looking arts but some of the story is...pretty much chinese knock off from other existing show in Japan and America.
I tried watching the trailer for Ex-Arm and it was so painful that I could not finish watching it. Yes, I could not finish watching a trailer, so watching an episode is a NO go. The computer generation makes it look like a video game rather than anime, and the character movement is too hesitant and slow motion at times. The whole timing was off.
shame, i took a look at the few chapters of the manga and it actually seems promising but considering how unknown this series is the trailer effectively killed any hopes it has of getting its name out or at least its gonna be forever marred by it
Them: Stop tell me how to live my life and my identity. I am a unique person. Also them: Japan be like how I want you to be even though you literally have something for everyone in manga, anime, dramas, etc.
Netflix isn't the one making anime less Japanese. Internationalization of anime has created problems as they try to market series to China much like Hollywood has. That is also why people are worried about Sony potentially acquiring Crunchyroll and becoming the de-facto distributor of anime in the west. Political correctness or what they view as PC is already starting to influence what shows get aired and which shows don't. In the past, a show like Interspecies Reviewers wouldn't have been dropped and would have been aired like High School DxD, but that has already changed. Netflix's attempts at anime have been decent. They're at least not ending up like US Funimation. Live action versions of anime has been pretty bad. There is no doubt about that when you have the Bleach, Death Note, and Full Metal Alchemist live action movies.
Live action adaptation of manga/anime were always corny to say the least, regardless who produced it, those are low budget productions, similar to anime, that need to be stamped out as fast as possible. For example; If you compare 3D Kanojo Real Girl live action manga adaptation fully funded by Japan, and Kakegurui live action adaptation, funded by Netflix, you wont see much difference in production quality, except ones a feature length the other is episodic, both are really really bad in everything they do, acting, sets, effects, but if you know what you're getting into, you can have some fun watching it. Another example would be one of the most successful anime and manga in the last few years, Kaguya-sama, has one of the most terrible live action adaptation, people still loved it.
The problem with this theory is that China doesn't care about Politically Correctness, not in the western sense , at least. The only stuff they tend to not allow is sex and critiques to the Chinese system.
I read the Ex-Arm manga and there's *a lot* of sex in it. I don't get why they choose this particular title to adapt; they'll have to cut a lot of stuff from it.
So they're trying to boil down a genre of animation to a simplistic art style so they can apply said art style to anything to appeal to everyone. Like taking out all the flavor, color, sugar and majority of the fizz from Cola but still trying to pass of the slightly fizzy water as cola.
Japan in general is VERY resistant to outside influences. As to anime itself, for the studios that produce anime the money is not in the show itself. The money is in all the merch. Loads and loads of merch. Not least of all, very very pricey anime figures. This is, in part, why shitty light-novel adaptations happen so often. They are less interested in the quality of the show and more in how many waifu figurines they can get out of it. While the West certainly has its fans who will buy merch it is nowhere near the juggernaut that are Japanese Otaku spend.
Animation studios also mainly look at Bluray and manga sales to determine the success of an anime. They couldn't give two shits about the West. Many studios would like Westerners to watch their shows but their main audience will always be the Japanese. If I'm not mistaken, figurine sale aren't a very good indicator.
Demon Slayer is so damn overrated now. Not only that, but also a milk factory. I'm not say that the show is bad, it's basically became the "Japanese Spongebob", if you know what I mean.
@agito 97 Ufotable. Unlimited budget works. Skilled animators. An already good and successfully completed manga series that leaves little room to screw up from (here's to looking at you, ASOIAF). SUCCESS.
story, its not bad -- i will say the animation is top notch for fight scenes and it does have its own take that I at least can't personally tie to demons... i guess think of it like i guess combining a bit of zombies+demons + ridiculous super samarai fighting techniques = win for those looking for action anime genre
If an anime is Western made, it should be called "Animesque." This isn't like Japan where the term anime is universal and can be applied to any form of animation.
Even anime like Sazae san, Chibi Maruko chan, Kiteretsu, and Doraemon have simplistic character designs. There is no such thing as an art style that exists in each country. Japan never invented big eyes. Osamu Tezuka said so.
Not trying to start a fight, I’m just new to anime. Is anime limited just to Japanese animation? Or is does it cover all animation from Asia? (China, Korea, etc.)
Demon slayer MADE me want to read the manga and want more of it. Even after it ended i wanted more. I now actively avoid dubs now because im disgusted by these companies trying to appeal to bs, such as how prison school and ms kobayashis dragon maids dialogue being changed to push politics.
@@DarksaberForce It really isn't what happened to him that is killing dubs it's the people that did it to him, They were all mostly DBZ voice actors, and cause I can't stand the voice acting in the Japanese version I could only enjoy DBZ in the dub. I don't wanna hear any of their voices now or support them. Also most of them are in various other series that were known for good dubbing but don't wana hear their voices now. It's also sad cause what happened to Vic happened right around the time Full Metal Panic got it's new season so now we won't have Vic to voice Kurtz Webber who was one of my favorite characters in that series.
I'm a weeb girl and i'll stay a weeb girl, drawing in my anime style and trying to learn Japanese as my third language (Spanish is first, i learned English many years later) Anime is what made me become an artist in the first place. Asooo, Beastars did a good job with 3D
@Mr Mistah That it can, although I usually see GCI in parts of Gundam series as I am a fan of mecha. As for Ex-Arm, it looks so unfinished and outdated that Reboot from the 90's looks leagues better.
@Mr Mistah it's more of them stretching the animations scene to fill time slot, making it look bad. I bet if they sped up the fight scene, it may have look decent while hiding some of the flaws. The issue is, whenever a scene is slow, they really need to bump the quality of the scene if they want it to look good. It all comes down to cutting corners and cutting cost, resulting in bad results. I agree, if but enough time into it, cg anime aren't bad. It's too bad that many of them are done poorly. The good news is japan is getting better at using cg in anime gradually over time.
As a Godzilla fan I wasn't particularly fond of the 3D anime trilogy. The only exception was the third film, Planet Eater because of King Ghidorah. As an otaku, American companies really need to back off and let Japan be themselves.
Isnt Netflix trying to make anime more international literally cultural appropriation? Anime is a cultural product of Japan and at its broadest maybe east asia. Funny too, I distinctly remember the twitterverse calling people trying on japanese kimonos at a museum event as being bigoted and insensitive. Yet here we have western businesses teyong to take over something of another country. And if you defend anime from cultural poaching, well you're a bigot or misogynist or any other ist. Cause anime is problematic in its japanese form. Gotta change it so Twitter aristocracy.
This is where the money of premium members go instead of supporting Japanese hard working animators. These people think that subscription to greedy/censoring streaming sites that control the contents of art will help the anime industry.
Man I'm glad the west is so incompetent! If they were capable of making watchable shows while ramming in their agendas and destroying anime, I'd be a lot more worried. I HOPE this damages the industry as a whole, it really needs to become niche again.
We prefer 2D animated Japanese cartoons, not the CG 3D animation impersonating 2D animation. Crunchyroll should have been sued for false advertising when they used that 2D character design banner.
Hey, Beastars was pretty good, not to mention Demon Slayer’s studio ufotable is well-known for it’s amazing and seamless incorporation of CG and 2d combined in both background and char
Nah some anime like the land of the lustrous looks juicy with their CG. It’s just Netflix fault on making it looks worse than a 2000 fan-made MMD project😂
There is nothing wrong with CG animation. So many great anime in recent years are basically a seamless mix format of 2D & 3D CGI animations. It's all about a proper design, techniques, implementations, etc.
The early seasons of RWBY were good, Monty Oum pulled off great things with what he had and if I'm gonna be brutally honest the seasons after he past seemed to degrade in terms of quality in both the action and story. I don't know how much of the story Monty left behind but I get the feeling RT kinda just ran with it Tumblr style doing what they pleased and it just eventually made me lose interest. As for western "anime" it seems like they're just tossing pasta on the wall and trying to see what sticks. Avatar The Last Air Bender worked back in the day worked because it was anime~ish but it wasn't overly trying to be anime. Thinking back on High Guardian Spice, if they has actually shown the characters, shown the story it might have actually been decently received, but they didn't. CrunchyRoll tried to promote an "anime" as the next coming of Christ simply because of how woke and "progressive" the creator team was. Anime fans don't care how woke the creator team is, if the team brings good results then its a good creator team that just happens to be woke and progressive, the team doesn't get to be great for just being progressive if the content they make is complete garbage. But it looks like CrunchyRoll didn't really want to roll the dice on that one, they made the pilot, buried it and kicked the creator team to the curb like a prostitute getting done with a cheap blowjob.
I believe that unconsciously the Western Anime enthusiasts loves Anime because it’s inherently Japanese, Its made with Japanese Labour, it has Japanese Soul. I believe that its a reflection that Western Culture has just gone to the shitter that Western Audience just want to escape Western Culture itself. Thats why Western Anime will always fail, because its it is a reflection of culture in decline. (I’m probably over thinking it but that how I see it.)
Art is a reflection of the artists perception, that perception is felt from their environment and timeline. The japanese are just better off in those regards. When most western entertainment outlets and platforms are run by entitled uber liberal far leftists whose modus operandi is "effort is overrated" then you'll always get laziness that expects to be rewarded
Except they're not 'western', they're American. That's not the same thing and it is why I will never watch 'Netflix Originals' unless they are made with Netflix money but with zero Netflix input.
Western Animation and comics died 10 years ago. It's not that we don't have the talent or money to make them, but unless they earn "Teen Titans Go" or "Sponge Bob Square Pants" money, that are all considered failures. Or they have to earn enough Brownie Points for producers Peers to make it worth their wild. Teen Titans was nearly the perfect show for what "SJWs" say they want. Decent diversity, good Men: Women Ratio, great stories, good animation. But it only made a little more money to break even therefore its a failure. A successful American Anime need to make enough to break even and build 5 yachts for the 3 times removed executive administrator. In Japan, as long as an anime made it's money back (ie, paying for materials, staff, commericals, ect.) and still can make a profit, its a success. This allows for many more artists to make more specialized entertainment. Instead of 1,000,000 people give like 10 cents, they only need like 1000 people giving 100 dollars.
While most of western "anime" are shit, I have seen some very good attempts that I enjoyed and hope to see more that are of the same quality. Netflix originals that I know of that are worth watching: Castlevania - I think everyone knows this one. Enough said. B The Beginning - I loved the story, characters and the animation was great. I really hope they give it a second season because it really needs it in order to complete the story and give the story closure. A.I.C.O. Incarnation - A very good series with great characters and story. Its worth checking out. Violet Evergarden - I don't think I need to say anything about this series. If you haven't seen it, watch now. Blood of Zeus - The most recent series released that I know of. A great series with good animation and story. Even if it doesn't get a second season I believe that its ending is good enough, but, personally I think it needs a second season in order to complete conclusively its story.
"She added that Crunchyroll is uniquely positioned to help Japanese partners through cultural minefields abroad." They say that when no one likes what they made.
You're not missing anything with the Godzilla anime trilogy. Imagine if Toho hired a bunch of people to make a monster movie that didn't want to make a monster movie because they go out of their way to make those movies not about the monsters and avoid them fighting proper. Like at least 98 Godzilla was about Godzilla as twisted and malformed as it was.
@FELIPE Augusto particularly because Orange is doing the CGI on that title, who know how to do it properly, and who Netflix bankrolled for Beastars, so why people complain about Netflix, I don't know. They are going to have some bad shows in their catalogue, that's undisputable, but they have far more good shows they bankroll than bad.
"Cultural minefield". Sometimes I wonder if these people write articles out of their sixes. You ask my opinion, Japan has done a lot better than Western media when it comes to representing cultures. It's not perfect, but series like "Shoukoko no Altair" and "Arslan Senki", which are set in fictional depictions of Turkey and Iran respectively, tend to make up taking liberties with good storytelling, and these series are popular in their home countries. Sure, the character designs can be a little in the "fan-service" domain for both series, but at least the characters involved are not one-dimensional, "I'm right and you're wrong, therefore you're a horrible person" types. Both have also done their homework to depict their respective cultures, and one can see that if one actually bothered to watch the shows instead of lurking around the echo chamber you call Twitter. Therefore, the whole "cultural minefield" argument is invalid.
Another thing, stereotypes aren't always a bad thing. Technically they are built up experiences that we combine to give ourselves likely but still flawed outcomes. This allows us to safely and predictably navigate our lives. It's normal. We should always keep in mind they could be wrong but gut instinct is vital to survival and success.
@@escietimes2 yes, they definitely are exaggerating. It's impossible for people to learn all the things there are to learn about life. So, we take in the most common or fascinating information and bash in together to come up with things that highlight certain aspects. Sometimes it's only something seen once in awhile, other times it hits home more often. I think as long as we're aware that we do this and understand it doesn't always hold true, aka it's flawed information, we can use it to live our lives. Unfortunately people want to condemn each other for using a survival technique that we've been using since recorded history. It doesn't have to be race or gender. It could be about health, lifestyle, it could be about other specie's of animals. For example, if you see a bear on a hiking trail you can stereotype the bear to potentially kill you. Honestly depends on circumstances but I'd rather be safe than sorry lol.
I'm Persian, and I loved Arslan Senki. I mean, sure they took a lot of creative liberties, and there are inaccuracies, but I don't care about any of that cause those had to be taken to make things more dramatic. But other than that, it's very well done and you can tell Hiromu Arakawa has done her work on Persian history and culture and has respect for it. That's all we ask for. Hollywood (and western media) has been lazy with their depictions of Middle Easterners in general, either being portrayed as bad guys or one dimensional and bland as hell.
I told my son about this Crunchyroll production and said it had 17k downvotes on RUclips. He looked at me and said “downvotes are for Reditt, it’s dislikes on RUclips mom!” I have to resist the urge to smack him.
"They got the big eyes and blue hair, what's the problem!?" Same thing I believed what went through the minds of people who made shows like Totally Spies back then; they somehow believed just "aesthetically" giving their characters large eyes and comical facial expressions (that looked like they're still stuck in the 80's era of anime) should make the cut, rather than also acknowledging that Japan and the anime/manga industry has a rather distinctive approach on their characters and world building. Shows like Totally Spies tried to look anime-ish but they're played no way different than your usual Western teen cartoons; it went with a "monster/mystery of the week" format with no accompanying main plot progression unlike Sailormoon or the PreCure series, and they were heavily rampant with the "mean girls" trope, whereas in anime the "mean girl" characters often get moments where they may show their soft sides or going through a character redemption arc.
Totally Spies is franime not anime. The same way American animes should be given their own name instead of piggy riding the reputation of Japanese animation for a quick buck.
@@VideaVice25 You're not wrong about the term, but I was referring to how Crunchyroll sees the amount of elements needed to be emulated and make an anime as equivalent as the people who made Totally Spies, except with the attempt of trying to pass it as an official anime adaptation of a particular source material instead of just an "anime-inspired animation".
I personally I don’t mind cgi animes or cgi in anime. As long as you work with the style not against it. Like I grew up on the transformers unicron trilogy animes and while yes the cgi sucks ball barrings it never bothered me.
The issue is becoming that in the case of Netflix it may well be made in and by the Japanese but if Netflix is handing over the money, they may ALSO be handing over their 'advice' on what they think international (read American) audiences want. They just can't do 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
Instead of thinking: Anime is popular lets control/make that. They should be thinking: Wow animation is popular lets put more effort into our own (cartoons) style of it.
Netflix actually has some shows with good production so I don't know why anyone would complain about that. The only real problem for the Netflix in the west is that they don't release the shows as their air i.e. episode by episode, week by week, but stick to their dumb model of releasing everything at once when its done. Otherwise as said, they have some great production there, Beastars, BNA, Carole & Tuesday, Devilman Crybaby, Dorohedoro, Hi Score Girl, Kakegurui, Violet Evergarden and more, but those shows alone probably grossed them the same amount as Cruchyrolls whole catalogue in the same year. Netflix anime production is fine, Crunchyroll on the other hand has some hits and some misses.
Yeah but Netflix isn't the one who made those, I think. I don't think Netflix played a part in the production of Kakegurui and Violet Evergarden (as well as the other ones apart from Devilman), they just have the license to stream it.
@@lavendermarshmallowplant3229 netflix isn't making anything anyway, they just produce, i.e. give money, sometimes they are the only one, but more than not there is more parties, similar to most Crunchyroll shows, except a few I believe who are done in their own studio . Those listed above are all Netflix originals, i.e. bankrolled by Netflix.
All what the other ppl under your comment said. Netflix had no say in those productions whatsoever, they maybe bought streaming rights to call it a "Netflix Original " thats it. If they had any say in the matter you could be Sure That you wouldn't have enjoyed the shows as much.
Only for streaming license/right, Netflix had zero involvement nor were they on any of the production committee for these projects. Read up on the production committee if you are interested in learning how JP production generally work

Demon Slayer was a hit in USA and Europe. Dragon Ball Super finale was viewed by BIG SCREENS AROUND THE WORLD. Anime dont need this people to "appeal" to everyone

@@KGRAMR You see, you dont need this "people" to appeal to everyone, jut look ate One Piece, the second most sold comics in existence, surpassing Batman and Spiderman. Created by ONE guy in Japan.
Western media has failed to produce anything of interest or value for me. Now seeing us abandon them for Japanese anime/manga they refuse to see their mistakes. If they weasel their way in they shouldn't be surprised if we abandon their stuff again.
To be far, Japanese animation was hugely influenced by Disney but made the animation they produced very much their own which is why it works (most of the time). American animation is to obsessed with 3D - product over content.
RWBY got a pass because it's advertised as 3D animation choreography. It catered to a large niche community. EX-ARM is advertised as anime... which covers a general audience who prefers stylized 2D animation than 3D. By claiming as anime, CR basically competes to the likes of BONES, Kyoto Animation, Shaft, Orange (3D), David Production, MadHouse, etc.

Anime doesn’t need Netflix, but Netflix needs anime, yet will censor/change it and say everyone who doesn’t like their awful shows is sexist and/or racist just like they did with cuties
For good CGI anime, you guys should check out Studio Orange, the people who adapted 'Beastars' and 'Land of the Lustrous'. Then 3D and 2D artists work together in tandem to make the best of both worlds. Edit: Fixed typos and brain derps
It's as bad as the last few episodes of full metal jacket back middle of last decade was that bad. They had an excuse of older stuff, and they were keeping a style. These nuts are nuts.
It's all so cold and corporate. They're just checking off boxes on Anime, not making anything close to it. Trying to copy something while trying to make Assembly Line Whimsy is always going to fail. Their is no passion, their is no heart, it doesn't try to take us somewhere new. Their is nothing there to be loved
I think what's also being missed is that American based "anime production companies" don't respect the sheer amount of painstaking work that goes into making good anime. And that you'll have to find artists willing to DO that labor. The animators in Japan work crazy hours to produce the anime we know and love; they are talented, skillful and immensely hard working. What are the odds of finding art majors in America with that dedication, creativity and work ethic? And then being able to afford what they'd ask you to pay them? Even if Crunchy could pay for that, odds are they wouldn't even be able to put in the level of work required...so they just cut corners or go CGI 🤷🏻♂️
the problem is that they're also paid shit, and all that, imagine bring them here pay them well and work on American cartoons and let them and American creators go nuts, I guarantee if American creators and Japaness Artist and creators, work together it would be a holy grail of a show, with the imagination working together. cause America can make great shows. but in some ways you have to have the good ones on chains and not go nuts but you also can't let them be too chained up. otherwise it gails
@@wolftitanreading5308 A well paid Japanese animation team is something to truly behold lol I think a cooperative effort would be really great actually, but currently it seems like the American media machine is trying to force its own views of what is and isn't "anime" so if they did invite a Japanese animation team, they'd likely try and control them too much :V
@@anthonyscaramia3272 I do think it could be possible, since America inspires Japan, as much as japan inspires America. I think the problem is that Its not just the main media, but also the fans also they have a lot of gatekeeping, and idolize Japan a lot also. but forget they are just as saturated, with stuff. with some good stuff like my hero Academia but that is between a lot of the same old stuff than they go, Oh its not anime if it doesn't have this or that. when anime is short for animation. The way see it is, that the fans who love it can hurt anime as much as the Media does at times. But I think if we get a team of American and Japanese writers to work together to bring ideas and compromise they would make something truly beautiful.
I agree with the statement that these same people who get riled up over political correctness end up crafting terrible stories and characters, but there are a few other things wrong with your claims. 1. Technically Anime is a form of animation that was directly influenced by Osamu Tezuka, who was influence by Walt Disney Movies, specifically Bambi. So Anime wasn't really "invented" just Perfected in Japan. 2. Where you are from does not determine whether your show is anime. What matters is the style of ANIMATION (not design) that determines if the film is anime. (MFKZ uses oddball characters that stray far from typical Anime character designs, yet it is also classified as anime.)
"Great Pretender" is a genuine amazing Hollywood-esque feel 2D + CG anime & people are loving it. A total modern classic & arguably top 3 best anime this year imo. THIS KINDA OF THINGS ARE WHAT SHOULD BE A "NETFLIX ANIME"

Ok lets get this out of the way. Hollywood says (LIES) they are trying to be as diverse as possible. But! Their so called Diverse shows now, are no doubt the most anti diverse shows ever. I'm also kind of guilty of not wanting to watch the new Ghost in the Shell SAC sequel from Netflix because of the weird art direction and full CG animation. As a huge anime fan from when I was a kid, I also disliked people generalizing what anime is. It's not the same and also not every giant robot from Japan is a Gundam.
I personally have nothing against 3D anime as long as it's animated well. This is NOT animated well. I've seen a few bad fan animations but this is even worse than those.
Demon Slayer is so popular in part because it's traditionally Japanese in it's setting. The Japanese want it and the west want it. Crunchyroll working in the anime industry and don't seem to know what anime fans want.

Yea, the more they try to appeal to everyone the less appealing a thing becomes. It has been like this for years now. Brand after brand has been stripping everything bare to appeal to a mythical wider audience that never materializes but it keeps happening over and over again. It's like someone keeps successfully convincing the people in charge of the entertainment industry that there's a huge population of customers out there who are just eager to buy their stuff as long as it is boring and average in every possible way.
@Clownfish TV Kneon there is anime that has boost in it's sales of the manga to the top 50 Japanese Oricon manga chart, it is called Jujutsu Kaisen which has the anime aired a few weeks ago and has already sold over 2 million copies so far.

Berserk 2016 is so bad it's funny. This is just bad.
@FELIPE Augusto It got me into Berserk so it did one thing right.

That is not anime, that is abomination.
And 2 out of 3 of those they didn't even make, they only published the Bleach and FMA movies, Death Note is the only one they made.
Live action adaptation of manga/anime were always corny to say the least, regardless who produced it, those are low budget productions, similar to anime, that need to be stamped out as fast as possible.
For example;
If you compare 3D Kanojo Real Girl live action manga adaptation fully funded by Japan, and Kakegurui live action adaptation, funded by Netflix, you wont see much difference in production quality, except ones a feature length the other is episodic, both are really really bad in everything they do, acting, sets, effects, but if you know what you're getting into, you can have some fun watching it. Another example would be one of the most successful anime and manga in the last few years, Kaguya-sama, has one of the most terrible live action adaptation, people still loved it.
@是我 Except alot of the time THEY WON'T LET PEOPLE DO THAT.
The problem with this theory is that China doesn't care about Politically Correctness, not in the western sense , at least.

Also, not to certain what "Western culture" is in your comment. There is not one "Western culture" re: animation or in general.
A good western "anime" is Castlevania and the avatar Series.
Avatar is animated in Korea
The story board is american
While most of western "anime" are shit, I have seen some very good attempts that I enjoyed and hope to see more that are of the same quality.
Netflix originals that I know of that are worth watching:
Castlevania - I think everyone knows this one.

They are going to have some bad shows in their catalogue, that's undisputable, but they have far more good shows they bankroll than bad.
@是我 nice bait
Even SLVR looks better than that "trailer".
(And yes, in an Alternate Universe, SLVR is a Soviet-made animated series).

"They got the big eyes and blue hair, what's the problem!?"
Same thing I believed what went through the minds of people who made shows like Totally Spies back then; they somehow believed just "aesthetically" giving their characters large eyes and comical facial expressions (that looked like they're still stuck in the 80's era of anime) should make the cut, rather than also acknowledging that Japan and the anime/manga industry has a rather distinctive approach on their characters and world building.
This an example of why the Japanese shouldn't hire American writers cause they'll crap it up.
I personally I don’t mind cgi animes or cgi in anime. As long as you work with the style not against it. Like I grew up on the transformers unicron trilogy animes and while yes the cgi sucks ball barrings it never bothered me.

3000 year old demon and a 16 year old? Thought they were talking about Tenchi Muyo there for a second.
Squid king is a of very good taste! I'm a fan of Kamen Rider and glad that we haven't gotten neer the other series in the franchise. #teamjapanforever!
Anime doesn’t need Netflix, but Netflix needs anime, yet will censor/change it and say everyone who doesn’t like their awful shows is sexist and/or racist just like they did with cuties
Then let them die. Nothing is too big to fail no matter how much people wail
The trailer was completely incomprehensible. Was the maid the protagonist or what? 🤔
@@wolftitanreading5308 I think this makes sense, let's hope for the best!
I just love so much when Geeky Sparkles star to preach for all the right and good reason! xD
Anime is Japanese, crunchy roll is just a giant weeaboo company wishing they were Japanese.
Ultra Man, excellent when I was a kid! Tell Squid King he has good taste.
It’s one of his favorite shows of all time.
@@ClownfishTV You raised a good kid.
@@ClownfishTV Squid King got some good taste in toku

Honestly Onyx Equinox's style reminds me of an updated 90s cartoon, like Mummy's Alive or X-Men, only slicker. I'm actually excited to see it.
Yes!!!!!
@是我 I am pretty sure that scene was just a minor comedic scene, while the bigger case for S02 is gonna be about that certain character. I mean it's not even Trump imo, but a clear nod to "Ronald Reagan" or even "Arnold Schwarzenegger" (check their bio).
@是我 Do you really wanna spoil this stuffs??
SPOILER
What do you mean? Dorothy is not even physically strong or shown to be great at fighting, just overall a great jack of all trades Con Artist. Also, btw the korean lady was the one that teach her most of the skills & if anything Ozaki is the mastermind of the group with his skill as "the planner."
I don't get this ... Is this some kind hot take?
Ok lets get this out of the way. Hollywood says (LIES) they are trying to be as diverse as possible.
But! Their so called Diverse shows now, are no doubt the most anti diverse shows ever. They exclude everyone who is NOT, a white woman, darker skin woman, and or a lesbian.
If! Their is ever, a straight male character. They are either, a villainous patriarchy, or a dumb guy, that's ment to be humiliated by the Karen's.
I started watching anime in 95, I don’t go to japan to watch western junk we love anime the way it is I want to buy direct and give japan 100% of my money than go with companies like crunchy or funni... we don’t want to watch western stuff...
if you continue down this path westernising anime you will spoil something special..and end up like other dead western IP’s.
@FELIPE Augusto Or Ajin.
@@Vigriff someone else who enjoyed it! I thought I was the only one.
@@epicrabid1857 It was certainly interesting to watch.
I saw that trailer until 0:18 where the car and post paradox made me swear out loud, almost throw my cellphone against a wall.
I'm telling you they are doing it on purpose. Your best bet is to learn Japanese and move to Japan if you want authenticity.
Demon Slayer is so popular in part because it's traditionally Japanese in it's setting. The Japanese want it and the west want it. Crunchyroll working in the anime industry and don't seem to know what anime fans want.
Oh boy this'll be interesting.... Nonanime!
No one minds CGI in anime as long as it’s Studio Orange quality. Land of the lustrous and Beastars is how you do it right.
We are losing by this entitled people believing that everything should be their way in everything and nothing should be remembered in the past and corporate overlords that don't care about the individual
but what do I know I am just a soldier following command
This is like the Mr. Show skit "Rap! The Musical!" but played straight.
The only exception to "cg anime is bad" rule is Houseki no Kuni. That one's a masterpiece, imo, and I wish it had another season.
Not a masterpiece but knights of sidonia wasnt bad either but whether or not it gets a third season it scares me what netflix will do with it
Beastars killed it last year. Season 2 let’s go!!!!👍👍👍👍👍
If Amazon did originals like they did with Blade of The Immortal, I'd be fuckin down to support that
Yea, the more they try to appeal to everyone the less appealing a thing becomes.
There's some people that claim that Avatar is Anime because they want to think of it as anime
@Clownfish TV
Kneon there is anime that has boost in it's sales of the manga to the top 50 Japanese Oricon manga chart, it is called Jujutsu Kaisen which has the anime aired a few weeks ago and has already sold over 2 million copies so far.
If it isn’t made in Japan, it is NOT ANIME.
Then when their cheap-ass cartoons fail, they'll say "Animation is a dead industry. There's no money behind it because nobody buys / watches our cheap-ass low effort stuff."
The all mighty spreadsheet ruins everything. While you can use numbers to explore and explain art you can't use numbers to make art.
They arent taking all the good stuff out of anime and leaving a shell, they are taking everything good out and filling the shell with shit.
Authentic anime is a labor of love. All Netflix and Crunchyroll see are dollar signs.
"Made to appeal to everyone" = "Appeals to no one"
Japanese fans hated the Netflix Godzilla and the director had a meltdown blaming them for not getting it.
It was pretty terrible specially considering how good Shin Godzilla was a few years prior.
Meanwhile Gundam suffered from Canadian writers remember G Savoir. That was Canadian.
7:10 I’m just picturing Geeky holding japans face while saying this. 😂😂😂
