Crunchyroll Boss ADMITS the West Wants to CONTROL Japanese Anime?!

  • Crunchyroll is for sale, and its GM Joanne Waage seems to be doing some damage control by talking about how rosy the future looks for the streaming platform, and what great partners WarnerMedia and HBO Max have been. Translation: PLEASE don't sell us! What's really interesting is her comments pertaining to the relationship between the West and Japanese anime production studios. She seems to be saying that they need GUIDANCE from American studios to make "Global Franchises." I dunno... Japan seems to be doing JUST FINE on its own, thank you.

We're talking the guy who got annoyed that the Manga publisher Delray decided that selling a manga with nude underage girls was probably a legal issue in some states and had the panels rotoscoped. Then had another fit over a change to Japan's copyright law that would make posting unauthorized Manga panels to Twitter a criminal offense so to spite his publisher he ended his Manga early to. Keep them form getting the copyright them made a stealth sequel to the Manga. He's kind of late to this since NBC Universal already is a major player in Japanese media. He has connections and some influence on the Japanese senate, and one politician asked what made japanese manga so unique from other comics. He replied: "Free Speech" You can't read stories found in Manga, in any other form of printed media around the world. Ken also went as far as to say that, he has saved free speech in Japan for "At least other 10 years". So yeah, many mangaka and anime directors are aware of the threat foreign influences represent.

I miss the old 70s style sci-fi animes, if I was an artist and made one the main protagonist would not be a junior high school kid, unless I thought the reee-ing would be louder. More likely to get maximum reee, I would have the mc as late 20s, masculine hard working empathetic character, recently captured by the matriarchy. The main girl will be a robot of indeterminate age and light sexuality, cause feminist hate younger spry women, who must enlist the help of a fabled buxomed robot warrior to spring her master loose. In the meantime, he begins a rebellion after learning that the simps eating soy are then turned into beef for the matriarchs. They must capture wild males like him to breed more simps for food....

That one sounds like an interesting concept. But I would like it if other men and women (actual women instead of machines, though machine women are nice too) who're against the oppressive matriarchy appear and aid the heroes and heroines too. Gotta show the good women that are still out there taking action to help men and other women supporting them after all, and show that the MC is not alone at all too. And those good women won't care about being called "traitors" and all that BS by the matriarchy as well, calling them the TRUE traitors to all humans as a species in retaliation.

Going to cons, collecting figures, and the like, some black do fans do it but not that many and they're already grouped in with the other target demographics so there's no need to concern themselves with trying to get money from them.
Plus now we have the black progressive activists sorta pushing anime creators to add more black characters, but they can't have big lips and noses, or look stereotypical, but they can't look like an Asian character painted black either (yeah they forget or aren't aware that there are brown Asians or that we aren't the only ones with melanin), and so on.

The last thing I want is for Hollywood or similar types of people to have any say in the anime industry. Anime managed to get as popular as it did without their help, and I really hope it stays that way

I have known this for years, why i never put money or time into funimation or Chrunchyroll. I only buy Sub from stores like Right Stuff which i had a catalog for back in early 90s, you can trust a company that's been doing the same thing for almost 30 years

The same thing happened almost 20 years ago! Censoring anime, bad cartoons, then TOONAMI AND Adult Swim uncut= anime boom

World-wide franchise = censored to the lowest common denominator

I hope that Japan never loses the love of physical media. I hate that I don't "own" most of my digital anime and I miss the goodies I used to get in the dvd bundles.

Dub actors can also just skip the middle man of Funimation and just be hired directly by animation studios. They may even be paid better too. Most dub actors are only contracted per gig, not a full time employee. Also animators around the world and the USA have been freelanced for anime shows, so if the anime studios all got together to make a streaming platform and profited either through ads and/or subscriptions, they would make a killing

It is very true that adding or removing stuff from an anime can enhance the experience for people outside japan and there are a few good examples of it, the problem is there are more examples of how it gets ruined when whoever decides those changes fails to understand what can and can´t be changed. I personally watch stuff from different countries to experience how things are on those other cultures, I don´t need them to make it look or sound like things do where I live to enjoy it.

The sooner Japanese companies can blacklist these western ideologue companies, the better.

My kids had a teacher whose last name was Waage. Not guaranteeing the pronunciation is the same, but his name was Wog'ee (kinda rhymes with doggie.)
