    I love your videos Taylor, but Helix was never designed as a "launch coaster". The launches are there to propel the train from one element to the next. Helix is amazing because of its intense airtime hills, tight inversions, rapid changes in direction, amazing lighting and that masterpiece of a soundtrack. Liseberg have never actively promoted it as a double launch coaster, a problem which befell Blackpool Pleasure Beach when they started promoting ICON. Mack multi-launch coasters should not be named as such as they are more about the airtime hills and rapid banked turns.
    Helix doesn't have a theme as you said. It is stylized, just like ICON. It is marketed as "Helix: The Next Level". It is euphoric and futuristic and dystopian hence the lighting and the chaser lights in the station and the techno soundtrack. It implies that you are experiencing something extreme and "cool" and "edgy" and I think Liseberg pull it off very well. Aside from maybe Taron I can't think of a cooler coaster.

      I think your explanation is a cop out. Lift hills add to the ride by creating anticipation. Forceful launches add to the ride by being another thrill element. A family coaster is one thing, but a major thrill coaster is quite another. If all a Mack launch does is "propel the train from one element to the next," that means it's a crummy launch system.

      I'm a frequent visitor since I live in Gothenburg, have been on it at least 50 times since the opening. Helix was smooth like butter when it opened, and has gotten shaky after just a few years. I think Liseberg and Mack should take a look at it, because the shakiness kinda disrupts the experience for me nowadays. I hope its just the trains causing it, because otherwise it would be costly.

    The reason for the strange layout of the cue area is that it is built inside an old iMax cinema.
    I live in Gothenburg and have worked in Liseberg and my father is an electrician there. That have given me all out access to the "backstage area". The workshops behind the coasters are really cool. Also, inside the the oval of tracks of the wooden coaster Balder, there is a small cabin in classical swedish fashion, outhouse and flagpole included. Coaster reviewers are allowed access to that area and have an opportunity to sign the beams and hammer in a nail. If you don´t know about this area it is very easy to miss while riding the coaster.

    • @robhobsweden
      @robhobsweden 2 года назад

      The iMax cinema (Cinema 180°) were placed near the late Lisebergsloopen (Schwartzkopf's Looping Star model) in the 1980's. I don't know when they moved it uphill.

    Not every launch has to be intense, Taylor, MACK launches are not intense, the launches are just there for momentum, I love your reviews, but when you say something is forceless, it kind of triggers me, you have to look at what the launches are for, Taron's 2nd launch is great because it's there to surprise guests and for intensity, MACK launches like Helix and Icon, are to build up momentum to make it through the course, I feel like you need to give the launches some slack.

    • @chally1494
      @chally1494 5 лет назад +23

      Jack Everyone respects Helix’s launches for getting it that momentum, Taylor just said that it would be even better if they were more forceful, which, let’s face it, they would be.

    • @jonasbijlsma9943
      @jonasbijlsma9943 5 лет назад +28

      I totally disagree with you. The idea of a launch is that is *launches* you forward and that feeling on a launch coaster is amazing. If they just wanted momentum they should have built a lifthill, would be much more cost-efficient. Missing out on force on a launch is just a missed amazing element of a ride, so Taylor has all the right to complain about that IMO.

    • @Soonjai
      @Soonjai 5 лет назад +7

      Mack Launches are my least favourite Launches. The stupidly weak Launch is the main reason why I don´t like Blue Fire. It build´s so much hype for the Launch with the whole Alarm going off and the smoke and then it Launches you at a rate that feels just barely faster than my boring daily driver (I know that it does Accelerate much quicker than my car, but it just doesn´t feel that way) iSpeed at Mirabilandia launches you to the same speed as Blue Fire does in a slightly faster time, but it feels much, much quicker and way more intense.
      I do get that Mack is more Family Oriented, but anyone who was ever at Tripsdrill can tell you that a ton of families with their kids ride the Karacho Launch coaster, and that one has a way more intense Launch than Blue Fire, there is just no reason whatsoever to have such weak launches, even if it is a more family oriented ride.

It’s just great from start to end and it doesn’t lose any of it’s momentum. I think it’s weird that you had problems with the restrains, as I thought they were one of the best restrains in any roller coaster.

    Great review, sounds like a really good, exciting, fun ride apart from the launches. Correct me if I’m wrong, but while I haven’t ridden one, it seems like MACK’s worst launches are the ones that are “boosting” launches where you go right into the launch while already moving.
    On a side note for the US people, I’m starting to think that Copperhead Strike will deliver some of MACK’s best launches. The first one will start from 0 so you should at least feel something, and the second is on an airtime hill so it should be fun even if it’s forceless

  • @cordeliahoglund1265

    The queue “room” is designed to take a lot of people (the ride itself takes around 1350 people per hour and that’s when it has 2/3 carts out, and that’s what they usually have) and the line waiting time is almost every day around 80 minutes. So the queue “room” is more practical then trying to have a theme.

    Yeah this is a 10/10 coaster. It's not built for the launches, so don't expect it to have air launch type acceleration. And if you find this rough, then how do you ride a coaster that even has a noticeable rattle.
    You praise the RMCs so much, yet this is a much smoother ride and even a bad launch is still better than a lift hill. Focus on what the coaster is built for instead, incredible airtime, positive Gs, and hangtime, with some awesome terrain interaction and a great atmosphere.
    Definitely my number one coaster (ahead of BDash, Mav, Skyrush, Wildfire, STR, WC, Toro, Outlaw Run, etc)

    Helix has a theme and that is simply being like a online game.
    Liseberg mentions at their web encyclopedia www.lisepedia.se/Helix (only in Swedish) that the target audience of the ride are youth between 13 and 24 years, who often spend too much time of playing computer games. Helix was supposed to reach these people, and then tempt them to live in the real world instead (where the ride exists).
    The soundtrack composed by IMAscore was also ment to sound like taken from a game.
    Also, the full name of the campaign of the ride was "Helix - The next level" (the next and real level of the online games).
    Liseberg took the theme even further and developed the world's first game app connected to a specific ride, which the queuers plays while waiting for riding it, and every quarter the player with the highest score of the game wins an express pass ticket for the ride, and that's also what's shown on the tv displays in the queue.
    The queue itself is supposed to look like a labyrinth, and the lightnings are a result of a competition between Swedish school classes.
    The track is really interesting, and the development process behind it can be overviewed here: ruclips.net/video/CBst7fjHApU/видео.html.

    I agree with people here that this does not need to be overly intense, I found this to be exactly perfect on any field and just so much fun overall. The ride is themed to the Helix game, which it the whole reason it looks so featuristic and why it has the game in the first place :) Helix is my personal n2 underneath Karnan. It does everything so well imo👌 Nice review anyway :)

    I think the point about force-less launches stems from the fact USA coasters have intense launches like Top Thrill or Kingda Ka. Plus Mack coasters are not about whipping you around the track, you are supposed to take the inversions slower that is what makes them unique. Something different than the likes of Intamin or B+M which rely on fast snappy inversions.

    For those saying that Mack launches aren't supposed to be forceful, why would a ride manufacturer not want to make the launch a fun part of the ride? Anyone who's ridden Maverick, for example, knows that second launch is one of the most exhilarating parts of the ride. That sudden burst of speed gluing you to the back of the seat...that's the appeal of launch coasters. I'm worried a bit about Copperhead Strike now to be honest.

    • @albinliungman1093

      Daniel Worley what people have been telling you is that helix isn’t meant for the launches. It’s meant for a super smooth experience with tons of inversions and airtime and quick close to the ground turns. They’re meant to be enjoyful and a ride you can ride without holding your breath. Liar berg had a intamin launch coaster with a 0 - 80 km/h launch but it was replaced by Valkyrie since less people liked it.

    I'm really confused how someone can feel uncomfortable in a Mack Rides seat. I always felt that they're the best seats ever. Especially with DC Rivals, where the rest of your body is free and you really feels those ejects and zappy twists at the same time, but not uncomfortable at any means. But maybe I have to ride more rides in that seat. Perhaps the coaster has to be built right for this seat. Perhaps, if the transitions are wrong, or too much, it might hurt? So then, we have found a limit, perhaps the speed that DC Rivals whips you around is the limit of feeling free while being comfortable, but not yet feeling pain, because you're only fixed at your waist and the rest is able to move freely.

    Taylor, I'm gonna be honest, these reviews are really starting to grind my gears. Like, you talk about every coaster like it's supposed to be the new Steel Vengeance or Fury 325. I get that you've ridden a ton of roller coasters, but you really seem pessimistic about just about everything it seems like. Just in this review, you complained about
    -The Queue
    -The Theme
    -The Lap Bar
    -The Launches
    -The Height
    -The Speed
    -The Smoothness
    It's not even that I'm trying to defend this ride or anything (I've never even ridden it), it feels like you use these reviews to just nitpick about everything to the point that they're almost painful to watch. It's almost cringey how much you exaggerate things that I'm sure nobody else cares about, like getting "stapled" or having a ride that isn't GLOSSY SMOOTH. Obviously, you don't need to be full GP, but at least try to talk about what you liked. In this review, you basically complained the whole time with small bits of talking about things you enjoyed (and then you gave it an 8.5 too, which seemed kinda contradictory)
    I just really don't enjoy these anymore I guess

    • @weeblewwe
      @weeblewwe 5 лет назад +2

      Getting staples is about the worst experience on a coaster. My home park is worlds of fun, and those rides are great because the lap bar was a good foot above my lap. I hated outlaw run because of the lap bar. I was in pain the whole time, and I was thankful it was a short ride. It’s hard to enjoy something when your in pain.

      The whole point of the reviews is to get into depth about what the coaster is lacking, he tells us what to expect if we were to ride it ourselves based on his personal experience, it would be useless if he only pointed out the good things, im sure Taylor hesitates when telling the bad things about a roller coaster, he even acknowledges the fact that he enjoyed helix and that its not a bad ride, so that people wont take it the wrong way, what im trying to say is take all the things he is saying into consideration, dont overlook that bad things, and plus this is just coming from the perspective of someone who has spent years riding roller coasters, and knows things that other roller coaster enthusiast would want in a ride.

    The thing abt Helix is that they were not going for very high speeds or hights. But they were going for the terrain. Also a fun fact the fastest speed in helix is not in the launches. This review kinda disappoints me because the launches are mean't for momentum and not acceleration. I've ridden Slinky Dog Dash at Disney's Hollywood Studios (Yeah I know it's a family coaster) and the launches were just to gain momentum to go over the hills. And this is actually my #2 bucket list coaster in Europe (Behind Wildfire). Also you need to know that the hangtime you get from the inversions makes up for the weak launches, just saying. I know this is a long comment, but you need to know that not all launches need to be forceful so anyone could enjoy it because there could be people who hate coasters with extremely forceful launches (any S&S air launch or Fluch von Novgorod). And it's kind of surprising that i'm disappointed by this review because I enjoy your reviews, and the last time I was disappointed was for the Montu review (I guess I haven't ridden Afterburn). Hopefully you notice this.

    My most ridden coaster is helix i have ridden it 13 Times and i Agree with you! However this video is a little bit negative. For first Helix is very SMOOTH! Like i didint think this was rough at all and the only part i felt a little rattle is the first drop. Second it is a launch coaster so its low on to the ground. Third the launches is creative cuz unlike most coasters this coaster dosent launch you at first. I think you can be more positive however it was a Good review!

    Helix dont really have a theme, its hard for a park to theme a ride in this size. But what Liseberg was going for is a nature style ride. For example the track is green so it can blend in the trees and bushes. Thats why everything is green, "its from nature". A video from 2012 when they announced helix at the begining it says "inspired by nature". So the shorten everythin helix theme is nature you could say
