I don't understand why people are disappointed by the launches… Why do people expect them to accelerate quickly? Mack Rides launches are family-friendly (for example my parents could not enjoy Novgorod, the launch was too intense for them, but they loved Icon so much. So Icon is not only just OK, it's awesome for those who do not look for outstanding thrills. By the way, I really loved your footage of Icon in your cinematic video, especially in combination with the cool soundtrack. I can watch it again and again :D ;) Awesome!
Nathaniel Johnson "we live in a society" it's not that deep, when you go on a *thrill* coaster you expect to get thrilled, intensity is obviously intense and thrilling. Plus you're ignoring the point where he concludes that it's fun and enjoyable.
I mean, when Icon is hyped up as one of the best coasters in the UK, obviously a lot of American enthusiasts will be disappointed. Lots of Americans are used to rides by intamin, such as Maverick and Storm Runner, which have very sudden launches, breakneck pacing, and whippy transitions. The UK doesn't have any crazy intamin rides, so Icon really stands out in that environment.
Fidel Camuze Yes. But with regard to pure quality, Icon would also stand out compared to many typical Cedar Fair or Six Flags coasters - but of course not as a thrill cooaster, but as a soft, smooth and fun family coaster
Well people who hear about this ride from overseas don't expect a high rated coaster to feel like a family coaster. If it feels like a family coaster to someone who prefers more intense rides then why should they rate it high? It just doesn't feel like a valid defense. There's a reason Cheetah Hunt, usually considered a moderate family coaster like Icon, isn't typically highly rated in Florida. It just isn't an extreme coaster. That's why American enthusiasts don't feel the same way about Icon as UK enthusiasts. We just have more intense coasters and a bigger selection.
I actually disagree when it comes to the speed on this ride. I think it’s very deliberately not supposed to be lightning quick and ON THIS OCCASION all the better for it. I absolutely loved the hangtime sensation through the one/two inversions and the slower moments for me actually gave me time to appreciate the changes in pace through certain dips and turns, whereas if it was going quicker I think those would have been more muted and uneventful. Like the sudden changes in pace were really noticeable, even when you were only going down a little 10ft dip. It’s like a thrilling family coaster and it’s really cleverly designed.
I have to say, Mack multi-launches are probably the most universally palatable modern launched coaster design. I think they have found a perfect balance between forces and intensity to make a ride that literally appeals to everyone without being a watered down family coaster.
When I think "family coaster" I literally think mine ride, so this is certainly a welcome "family" ride upgrade! Wickerman too is called a family ride but frankly I don't see it as anything less than a full fat thrill ride
Honestly I cannot wait to make it to Liseberg and ride Helix. I know for a fact that ride will win my heart, it looks like the PERFECT roller coaster to me.
i got the most airtime i’ve ever gotten on a coaster tbh, especially when it’s warmed up it’s crazy on the back row and it’s what i imagine rmcs to be like
Nice to see a review of an european coaster!! I personally love Icon for it's variation of Elements! And it is just pure fun! I have it as my number 7 i have ridden, out of 144 credits! Great review!
I really liked the launch, I think the gradual nature of it suits the ride better as it compliments the smoothness throughout. I find the pacing to be just right too as you get some nice hang time on the inversions. The banking is epic as well!
really diggin your content! glad you hit me up for the astroworld footage. subbed and enjoy what i am seeing. congrats on breaking the 100k sub count as well! that's a challenge in itself!
Brilliant review. Great to hear another take on this coaster, especially not counting the Immelmann as an inversion, probably more of a junior Immelmann like on black mamba - I have thought this for a very long time so it’s great to get some clarity on it :)
Just back in Australia from a UK holiday. Went to Pleasure Beach and loved eveything there. Rode ICON twice and seriously loved everything about it. I particularly liked when waiting in queue to ride (for the very first time) we watched trains getting launched and then disappearing over the first hill into the great unknown of the park. You then don't see the train back again until it hits its second launch. That whole "where did it go, what's over the hill" mystery built the anticipation and nerves beautifully. FYI: They have now modified the rear two seats on their ICON trains to free-spinning seats and have called them ENSŌ. I didn't experience this (as I can't handle spinning) but the verdict was very good from those who rode this way. It puts a whole new spin (pardon the pun) on the ride experience. After Pleasure Beach we went to Alton Towers - what a let down (and an expensive experience). Pleasure Beach has much better coasters (I love the old, original wooden, bumpy coasters). Rita (at Alton Towers) has a great first launch (it really forces you back in your seat), but after that, that's about it - just a speed coaster really. ICON is definitely the best coaster we rode in the UK.
I went to the U.K and Sweden right before you guys did and before it opened so I didn't get to ride but took construction photos. I really like the Big One , yes it's layout makes completely no sense at all but I liked the overall speed and the wind getting thrown in my face on that plus the ending of the big one was interesting. Just looking at Icon it does look a bit slow but fun so I will take your guys word for it saying it is the best in the park. But definitely not the best in the U.K. That belongs to Nemesis or Smiler, technically Cu Cullain isn't the UK not getting into geography now. But awesome stuff Taylor as always. I just want to thank you because you made me love rollercoasters now more than I ever did and it woulde awesome to meet you one day
I dont think smiler is that good personally, I like it I just dont think its great, I find it uncomfortable around 60 70 percent of the time and all the inversions in such a quick time just kinda make me feel like I am randomly being thrown about
I personally really enjoy this ride, but I definitely agree that the launches aren't great, and it could be more intense. I've never really noticed the lapbars tighten, and I always make sure I'm not stapled so I get plenty of airtime on that top hat (my personal favourite element of the ride).
@@visionist7push your body upwards a bit with your back on the seat, they’ll try to staple you but they always need quick dispatches so they’ll just move on i rode it 8 times yesterday though and each time if i avoided getting stapled it came down right after the first launch so i just wouldn’t bother
10 more rides on this thing last week, easily one of my favourite coasters in the UK. I agree the first launch is not very forceful, however backseat I felt was somewhat forceful. Some moments in the second half are actually sort of forceful, the turn around before the turn over the entrance had some positive g forces and the ejector hill in the second half gives some great airtime. I enjoyed the Front however the back is a lot more forceful compared to the front.
I get to ride Icon all the time since I go to Pleasure Beach often, and I have to say, when you don't get stapled, you get some really nice air on that ejector hill. Personally my Number 1 UK coaster.
Top hat gives crazy airtime, front is sharp ejector, back is sustained floater, combined with the super free seats you do feel like you're gonna fly out and hit big one haha. Then that sharp dip under the bridge before the second launch is sharp ejector in the back
Really good review as always! Makes you wonder about the 2nd launch, is that part of the reason Copperhead Strike's 2nd launch is going to be on a bunny hill to make that part of the ride more thrilling compared to Icon's 2nd launch. Either way its definitely a coaster credit I wanna get whenever I go to Europe someday.
I have ridden it 7 times. In the back, you feel the launch a bit more, especially the 2nd. In front you hang a bit more in the giant air time hill and immelman.
It's all about the back. Even from the first to the second row it's more forceful, let alone the last row. Awesome fun in the last row. I got 9 rides in, front, back, day, night
The launches seem to get faster as the day goes on. In terms of launches, Icon really still gives me that breathtaking effect on both launches, it feels as quick as Rita at Alton Towers. If you want a really forceful launch, hydraulic launch coasters are the best.
For The UK people this is an American rating our rides even though they are used to bigger faster and more forceful so I think Icon is outstanding for UK people that haven’t really been to theme parks in other countries
Awesome review! This was actually my most anticipated Europe review because I wanted to hear what a very experienced enthusiast had to say about the ride. Thanks for the great content!
It's not meant to be fast or have a forceful launch, it's the feeling of being thrown around now and then and going under and around other rides and is classed as a family ride so it's perfectly understandable and I don't get why your complaining about it
Enthusiasts are loud individuals about "lack of force" but its the huge number of "normal" park-visitors, who bring in more money and who might not want a ride to scare them, or hurt after a few rerides.
I'm quite new to coasters and this is my first ride with an inversion and I have to say I loved it although I haven't been on infusion, revolution, avalanche, big one or Nickelodeon streak so I can't say it's the best at the park although the best I've been on.
Even though I love Icon over other rides that enthusiasts drool over, I think this is a very fair review. I think we can all agree it was a brilliant investment from the Pleasure Beach! Although I would disagree that the ride is forceless, I think you get some good force on those final turns, but we all have are hot takes.
"Not really an airtime focussed coaster" I just rode this 3 times, front, middle, and back, and massively disagree, there's crazy ejector on the first top hat, and smaller pops of ejector a good 5 or 6 times later on. Combined with the leg damgly space and lap bars my boyfriend described it all as 'very airy' on the brake run, he isn't actually into airtime so didn't care for it but it that and whippy transitions is definitley the focus of Icon. We had a night ride too and that made allnthe small dips and whips feel much more forceful as you can't predict them and the layout is too complex to memorise. Imo the first launch is very punchy and if it was any harder the top hat would tear your head off, but the second launch could do with more speed as the immelman is forceless. The slow pace in the back section does give good hangtime though. I have this joint best in the UK with smiler, but they are veryyyyy different rides
I wouldn't count Copperhead Strike as it's not yet built & opened yet. Also Rcdb says that Nemesis at Alton Towers is 104ft in drop height which is obviously bull, so I'm going to say that ICON features 2 inversions & say that the Immelmann is. But I would say that ICON is an epic ride, I agree that it could be faster but it isn't a Hydrualic Launched Coaster with a catch car mechanism so you wouldn't feel the sudden launch, but the launch on ICON is smoother which I think is pretty good. I would also say the ride is partially themed in a way but not themed like THE SWARM at Thorpe Park. Overall I wouldn't say ICON is the best ride in the UK as there's others that I like, but it sure is a great addition to both BPB & the UK as a whole.
Thing is with Icon is that I think it's marketed as an extreme thrill coaster where I think it's more of a family thrill coaster. If Cheetah Hunt is classed as a family thrill coaster then this definitely is. I think it's the perfect ride for Blackpool and it's what it needed. I would of preferred an intamin blitz coaster personally which foccussed around speed but beggers can't be choosers.
I just rode icon and it was so good, the launches were better than I thought it would be it pinned me to my seat quite forcefully the airtime was fl-jector(I like it better than ejector) and so much airtime and so comfortable so fun😆 Also I don’t get why people complain about stapling it got pushed down quite forcefully but it was still comfy and I still got airtime you don’t need to levitate to count it as airtime because you will feel like you’re getting ejected anyway the restraint doesn’t matter
I think it is the best roller coaster ride there it is so fast and you get a lot of airtime at the back and at the front you can see where you go and that is good as you are up a bit longer I was on it for 2 hours Strait on the icon I think the first drop could of been a lot higher but that just me tho it is not a long one I think about 1 minute 20 seconds but the is still fast for that if you have any thing to add you can thanks
are you gonna review multiple rides at each european park or just one for each? bcs i would love to see a revised version of Alton Towers vs Thorpe Park now that you have been, and i also want to see both Nemesis and The Smiler reviews since they are the two "best" in Alton Towers, i also wanna hear what you think of The Swarm and Thorpe in general🤗
NotANoob I will review all the major coasters in Europe. As for Alton Towers vs Thorpe Park, we don't need a video to decide which is better. It's Alton Towers, easily
Coaster Studios hahaah please tell that to the british GP!! i hope you do Smiler and Nemesis though because i am desperate to know your opinions hahah!!
GermanCoaster Fan you ever heard of Helix, DC Rivals, or Flash?? Overall they’re much more intense than people say, which I can attest to from experience
I like icon... I thought it was incredible... but I just got back from Germany and riding taron for the first time... and my god... it makes Icon look like a kids pinfari
I personally disagree with the launch. I think its perfect, not too forceful but not too slow. I went on this yesterday for the first time and went on it 2 more times afterwards. It took away my fear of the twirls and even the half upsidedown parts. Which made me go onto InFusion afterwards 3 times in 10 minutes and 1 more time at the end. I know you've been on many coasters but the casual rider and first timers, this ride is probably one of the best.
one thing I don't get on most coasters why is the hight taller the the drop for example 88 feet but an 82 foot drop is it from the start of the drop untill it starts to level out
So what is your favourite UK roller coaster. I guess yours is the smiler isn't it coaster studios? Mine has a massive amount of connections but I have no idea which one to go for so I chose the swarm which you gave it an 8 which I agree.
5:05 it’s either called the deformed Immelmann or the Mole Snake Loop
JPhoenix_ 10 yes lmao
Mole snake loop obviosly

is it just me that seriously likes the way the track looks on icon?
Nope
I got a stroke while trying to read that correctly
no idk why but the track looks very big and cool and a nice colour that doesnt blind people

GD Kulgan because we live in a society where 9/10 enthusiasts only look for intensity and ejector airtime on coasters

I thought Revolution was a launched roller coaster?
barely
Very interested to hear what your number one in the UK is! It's Icon for me. Smiler and Nemesis joint 2nd
YESSS! EUROPE REVIEWS!!!
are you gonna review multiple rides at each european park or just one for each? bcs i would love to see a revised version of Alton Towers vs Thorpe Park now that you have been, and i also want to see both Nemesis and The Smiler reviews since they are the two "best" in Alton Towers, i also wanna hear what you think of The Swarm and Thorpe in general🤗
Coaster Studios Yeah Towers is the beat and i only live 20 mins away haha i have been 8 times this year and im going again tomorrow🤗
Great video Taylor love the UK parks keep it up😀😀😀
Love your videos
Hey! You said that icon is the only launch coaster at blackpool pleasure beach but the revolution is also a launch coaster.
It begins
Ive riden this over 100 times and it still holds up at my number 8 uk coaster
Xavier it is not a complicated ride well i lived in blackpool and have rien big one 100 times icon 50 times live in Australila now
Mack Rides always builds family coasters.
GermanCoaster Fan you ever heard of Helix, DC Rivals, or Flash?? Overall they’re much more intense than people say, which I can attest to from experience
Icon isn't their first or their only launched coaster, Revolution was first.
Yes. Now starts the Europe reviews
Will you make a top 25 for Europe and north america? Or just overall
Guys, Revolution is awesome, and underrated, but it's not a launch coaster, it's a shuttle coaster.
I love Icon
RIP Copperhead's restraints
I like icon... I thought it was incredible... but I just got back from Germany and riding taron for the first time... and my god... it makes Icon look like a kids pinfari
Sick review, Taylor! Is it bad that this ride kind of is my #1 coaster?
... It's not, right?
That's pretty bad
@@jaredsheinberg 🤷♂️
its not bad lmao
Depends how many you've ridden
Ye I was gonna say if yuo have only been to the UK (or mabye some european countries) it quite possibly will be one of your top ones
0:10 what about the Arrow shuttle coaster? Doesn't it count as a launch coaster?
They have already added a launch coaster called revolution
its a good ride but i think some Lazer effects and Fire wind and a water element would have made if beater
Have you ridden The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley? Just curious.
no
Coaster Studios you should of went to lightwater valley for the ultimate alone
He did the Mack (The rides with a frame in it's track)He did the Mack (The restraints that go on your lap)
Finally!!!! 😍❤️
They have burger king in the park that cool
Are you planning on showing us the silver play button?
Lenny Face I haven't gotten it yet
I see what your saying about the launches but I have to disagree with your opinion but its your opinion good review
What will be your next coaster review? I hope it is Taron, Expedition GeForce, Karnan, or Wildfire.
Icon the king of making people pass out
one thing I don't get on most coasters why is the hight taller the the drop for example 88 feet but an 82 foot drop is it from the start of the drop untill it starts to level out
Wait isn’t revolution a launch coaster as well??
4:22 Row 5 we cant start till you stop dabbing.
So what is your favourite UK roller coaster. I guess yours is the smiler isn't it coaster studios? Mine has a massive amount of connections but I have no idea which one to go for so I chose the swarm which you gave it an 8 which I agree.
Smiler is my favorite ride in the UK, yes
It is not the parks first or only launch coaster...
Revolution, the arrow launch is actually the parks first and the UK’s first launch coaster...
0:12 revolution techniaclly is a launched coaster
0:09 REVOLUTION
