- Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz's attorneys have informed the judge that he will not be present when the jury visits Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School as part of the sentencing phase of the trial. The jurors will view the freshman building where the shooting took place -- the building has remained untouched since the massacre.

She was probably handed this as they thought it would be an easy - open and shut - case. Cruz is pleading guilty to all charges. Unfortunately because this is Florida (a death penalty state) they STILL have to go through absolutely everything, just as they would if he had pled "not guilty", because they have to determine whether or not he should get the death penalty and to legally back that up they need to go through absolutely everything. If it was a normal (i.e. non-death penalty) state, he would have pled guilty, be sentenced to live out his life in prison without parole and that would be the end of it. Over in a day. But no people are like "Oh no we need to have the death penalty, an eye for an eye bla bla bla" and they don't realize this is the result. Just more long drawn-out torture for the families.

I agree
Because, regardless of how heinous and horrible a crime committed is, the criminal defendant is allowed access to anything the jury is presented as evidence. Including a tour of the crime scene. That is how a fair trial is commenced. Not allowing him to go, would be like making him step outside the court room while key evidence is presented to members of the jury. I agree, it seems cruel, but this is necessary in order to combat appeals that will inevitably be filed down the road, now none can say he was given an unfair hearing.

Here's someone who savagely murdered 17 or more people and admitted it and is getting special treatment!!?? What in the actual f__k is going on with this BUSTED ASS system!???
It's not a simple open and shut case though. Whilst nothing justifies what he did, there was A LOT of factors that lead to him going over the edge. Mental illness and autism isn't a simple thing to cope with, and add all them conditions together, you've got a dangerous combination. That's not even to mention being born to a drug addict, being isolated, no friends and no one that truly cared about him. A lot of people failed him as a child and this is the consequence of said failures
I mean, you shouldn't have been ridiculed but that is true regardless. I'm not judging you, I used to do that when i was younger and got a dui of my own a couple years back and it felt awful. We have a first offender program in my state so I did that in exchange for a guilty plea

Well said Eric and I agree 100% !!
Well, they do that for high profile cases so then the defendant can't litigate their way into an appeal or drag it on even longer. But since this is a death penalty case, it's already taken this long. If it was a prison sentence case, it would've been over.

If you're facing death, you get plenty of attorneys to avoid appealing later down the line, saying they didn't fight for you. They can now say he had plenty of defense.
We have at least a two tier justice system maybe 3
he has really bad and unexperienced lawyers.
2. He has 2 lawyers working for him. Get a grip.
Why tf should he get any choice in the matter..
You can tell the guy sitting next to him is hating it, every time he taps him on the shoulder, every note he passes him.
They have the little fool sitting next to the big guy for a reason.
He should have to go with jury...man up .
lol wow a judge having to ask this is crazy!
shes experienced but has never done cases like this before
They should place dummies in EACH LOCATION where one of the kids was killed in the position they found them. Let the jury see and feel what it was like. Justice is knowing exactly what happened.
Smart, but I feel as if it would be a bit disrespectful to the victims? Idk
I think they know. There was multiple witnesses called so they had a clear picture
This judge doesn't present herself as very authoritative or credible.
I mean no point for him visiting the school anyways. He would get booed from the whole premises if he ever steps foot there 🤣
2:56 haha why is he poking his lawyer like that
I know it’s not technically funny but lol I’m not gonna lie, I laughed at that so hard
I will never understand the legal system. What a waste of time and money. He pled guilty, there is no doubt that he did it. Bring him to court, sentence him to death, take him away and put him to death......done!
I think if you are a murderer or a robber. You should get punished with the same thing you did. If you stole something precious they should take something precious from you. If you killed someone with an AR you should die by an AR. I know in Iraq If you steal the take your hand if you steal again they take the other.
EXACTLY...he did it, he admitted it, lock him up n throw away the key or put him down like a dog.. plain n simple
Yea wtf are they doing!! This is just for show, the judge is definitely on the wrong reality programme.
Not so proud of his notoriety now!
Um this is getting weird
This judge always looks confused! I so wish they would have placed a more experienced judge! I’m sure the attorneys criticize her! She’s always asking the attorneys what to do!!! 🤦🏽♀️ I find her frustrating!
she is experienced, she just hasnt done these types
Quite frankly she seems incompetent ...
She do be looking confused a lot of times lmaoo
Maybe I’m crazy but I’d love to know what he has to say to his lawyer every bloody second 😡😡
Yes, you do sound crazy. Whatever he’s saying literally doesn’t matter, calm down.
@@Timefortracy don’t be rude
@@Timefortracy
I'm afraid it does ! ( I would hope so stateside) It could well accompany him on route through the system, doodles & all, let it be reviewed by professionals.
That aside, I believe he should swing from a gibbet.
She is so under qualified for this
Just how does he get to refuse to go ANYWHERE? Is he not in custody???
Anyone know what songs he was listening to during the shooting? I remember a video that linked them and i listened. I would like to listen again but have no idea the video
If I was him, I would 100% go. It may be one of his last chances to see the world outside of prison.
True or the outside world before he dies
I agree. One last chance to see the streets and cute girls walking in the sunlight. (maybe thats why he refuses to go), seeing what he lost forever is too painful.
@@laveredasecreta huh???😂😂
@@laveredasecreta deservedly...?
@@laveredasecreta Do you think he has those kinds of feelings?
feel sorry for his lawyers there gonna try and drag this out as long as possible to keep him alive also feel deeply saddened for the familes that lost a loved one on that day
Is it normal for this judge to always be confused lol
17 innocent lives should be automatic death penalty.
Did one of his lawyers quite, the one the was sitting on the end when the victims family were giving impact statements and started to cry????
I think I see her sitting against the wall ???
no she was just sitting somewhere else, they have changed seats several times. She was behaving utterly unprofessional. She obviously cant defend him, so she should not take the money she gets for defending him.
@@Nonowness is she a Public Defender? She should donate the money to charity.
I don't think they are attorneys. They are basically baby sitters.
Good God . Why is the judge asking about procedures ! Wow
There’s probably a very good chance she’s not done a trial like this! It’s not unheard of for a jury to go & view the scene however on a school campus, locked down etc. better for her to make sure they only make the trip one time.
It's so sad to have to pay for a citation like this
Who's paying for all his lawyers can
someone tell me !
She really is not a judge capable of this big of a case
totally not, she comes across like being more concerned about perfect make up.
@@Nonowness 100%%%%
Randomly picked, nonbiased an non informed is the qualification..........Circuit Judge,,,,,,,,,
I feel bad for the judge trying to balance keeping the defense for running over the case yet avoiding anything that could create an appeal or mistrial. I’m glad she denied the request to keep the jury from going to the school if they wanted to. This defense is pulling straws!
This is sick.
Shouldn’t the judge know more then the lawyers
Why does this judge seem so lost throughout this entire trial
because she is thinking what make-up to wear the next day.
@@anlace3447 how did you make this judgment? I’m asking specifically about the “make-up”part
Why would he even be allowed to? Also, what’s the purpose in actually visiting the school?
It gives the jury a opportunity to better visualize the crime and make the necessary judgments I think it's obvious that physically being at the location is better and more clear perspective than seeing photos hearing narrative or any other evidence. He would be allowed to do so because by law he has the right to participate fully in his own defense. Regardless of how people despise this monster and I despise him and wish that he was never born however we have to view the system in the totality of the rights that it grants to us as Citizens and while it is obvious to us that he is an evil monster it is so important to Grant him all of his rights in terms of Defense so as to ensure those rights for all of us including in the many instances in which a person is wrongfully arrested and prosecuted.
The lawyer with the red tie looks so done with him 😂
they earn tonns of money with this case and that despite they are doing a shitty job, they are not helping Nikolas in any way. just sitting there , looking bored and are utterly inexperienced- and getting th big money for that. If they cant or want to defend him, they should take money for it.
I entered the chat late so sorry if this has been answered. Where's the defense lawyer that was crying yesterday?
She is at the end of the defense table...and still crying.
He should have to go. Not to mention the fact that he will probably never go anywhere again, he should take that opportunity
Micheal...maybe they will let him grab a McDonald's meal before he loses sight of the outside world...🤣🤣
He's not going because his lawyers put the waiver in front of him and said sign here. He's not in charge.
@@juliewatson4314 hahaha Julie, you actually made me laugh out loud on that one.
Yes @multiverser … His lawyers don’t want anyone to go … especially him with the jurors! That would help the jurors actually see him in the environment instead of imagining him there, possibly see a reaction from the disgusting murderer, and correlate the carnage of blood and chaos created with the perpetrator. If this at all would help keep him off of death row… The headline would be that he is going. He has nothing to do with this decision And it wouldn’t surprise me if he would actually want to go just so he can see everyone else’s reaction.
This guy is getting easier and better treatment than men who have done robberies with no bodies killed
If the Judge does give the instructions in court. Will that invalidate them?
All these court proceedings everyday and hearing families testify.. Damn. I would die of high blood pressure
That’s very very odd that they are partaking in bringing everyone back to the school. I seriously don’t understand the relevance of bringing everyone back there
The world already got to see what happens when he's allowed to make choices. The AUDACITY! 😡
Nik was like please tell them I’m not going.
This Judge doesn't seem to be the sharpest tool in the box, does she?
I agree
shes experienced but shes never done a case like this
