I knew several black belts growing up & i beat their ass any time we boxed or wrestled, and I was never trained in any way. They toss black belts out candy and it only serves to feed the kid's egos. People pay for these things, not work hard and gain discipline for them.

@captain_orange It's not just strength It's technique. One of those boards requires approximately 251 pounds of force to break. To break 2 you not only need over 500 pounds of force to break them, but to also hit them in just the right spot. If you are not using the right amount of power AND hitting in the exact spot, you won't break them.

Actually yes😐 specifically in taekwondo and BJJ and if you are in a heavier weight class it takes even less time because "there's only so much you can learn" a lot of people think it needs to be revised and based on matches won, overall skill, etc.

Time is a factor but most schools would not allow you to test for your black belt unless you have completed the required tasks from all of the previous belts first such as learning specific techniques and forms to a decent degree of proficiency. Even then you can still fail the test.

Breaking for tournaments dont use breakaway boards typically, they usually use 1 inch white pine. These however, are plastic. They are a type of rebreakable board that one at a time wouldnt be too hard to break but by stacking them like this the "S" lock cannot flex to the breaking point, reinforcing the first rebreakable board to about 15 times harder to break than it would be by itself. For demos they use special demo boards made of pauwlonia wood that basically just falls apart on its own.
It’s not mental. These boards are polymer and are different from wooden boards. Most of them ARE striking through because of the positioning of their shoulders.
These boards are made intentionally hard to break. They are not pure wood but made up of a composite material that is far stronger than wood. This is not a result of not going full contact
