It just has 2 positions; on & off for the gas, so isn't really adjustable. Its there for launching rifle grenades. When doing that, a soldier wants the gas off, so the full power goes behind shooting the grenade out. Some guns used a blank cartridge for this, while others used a standard round + a bullet trap thing inside the grenade. Yugoslavia had something similar, but most of the rest did not.
